Dell 2408WFP w/ Mac Pro?

Does anyone know if the screen rotate feature on the Dell 2408WFP works with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 card installed in an early 2008 Mac Pro Quad-Core? Also, overall is this a pretty good monitor? I'm looking to upgrade my 20" ACD.
Thanks!

I have a new Macbook Pro with a new Dell 2407WFP-HC monitor. Dell of course does not support MAC nor do they make drivers for MACs. I haven't calibrated the monitor yet, but plan on doing so using Spyder2. The picture quality is great, however, it has a very distinct softness to it especially compared to my Macbook Pro picture and the when I use the monitor with a PC. Does anyone else have this problem or have any solutions? Thanks.

  • Dell 2408WFP at mac mini over hdmi

I have an new mac mini server, where I try to connect an Dell 2408WFP to over hdmi.
Besides the problems with shadows around the letters in written text and menus, which I solved by setting the resolution to 1600x1000, I have a big color problem, which I can't solve by any calabrating procedure. Green and blue colors are dominating, and all brown to red colors are reduced or missing. For example the Icon of the addressbook appears not in this standard beige color but in green. As you can imagine, this is the absolute kill for any work on images. Since the Dell monitor is a good standard one, which I never had any problems with before, there must be a problem with hdmi ore even worse with the graphics of the mac mini.
Has anybody similar experiences and found a solution. I bought the hdmi cable expecting to have the best connection possible then, and to have only one cable between the mac mini and the monitor. Are there any limitations in the hdmi-standard concerning resolution and color management? I didn't test any dvi cable yet, since I am still hoping to find a solution for this problem.

I have exactly the same issues as you, ie the lack of clear / sharp text and the colour management problem. Did you get anywhere with this?
I was using this Dell display with Windows 7 and had none of these problems. I calibrated the display using a semi-professional calibration utility (i1Profiler / Eye-one Match) and the results under Windows were great. But with the Mac Mini I find that many colours lack saturation. Yellows are very faint, and reds look more like a brown-orange. I tried replacing the HDMI cable with a DVI cable and the Mac HDMI -> DVI converter but I don't see any improvement.
Interestingly I find that the text looks best at the monitor's native resolution, ie 1920 x 1200 but it's still nowhere as crisp as text is under Windows.
For me the colour management issue is the biggest problem. I do lots of underwater photography and I just wouldn't dare work on any of my photos with the display as it is.
The profile I find works the best is sRGB IEC61966-2.1 but it's way off being natural / correct.
I specifically bought the Dell display as it has variable height and fits neatly in the corner off my office where the height is limited, I don't have room for a 27" thunderbolt display even if I could find the funds (~$1600 in the UK!)
I'm running 10.7.2 (Lion) in case it makes a difference.

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

  • Better Mac Pro display: Apple 23" Cinema HD or Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP?

I bought a Mac Pro a few months ago and want to upgrade my monitor. I'm currently using (via an adapter) the 17 incher that came with my old G3. Compared to the 2407WFP, Apple's display is an inch smaller, about $300 more (with applicable government discounts), with a 3-year warranty as opposed to a 5 year warranty with Dell. Anyone have any recommendations based on personal experience?
I am using the base level Mac Pro graphics card. I'm not a gaming fanatic though I'll probably play some on the Mac (as soon as Intel compatible versions come out). Mainly interested in using my computer for graphics and music.

Above is the link to the one i want! will it work? i think yes but second opinion would be nice.

It depends in part on what graphic card it is attached to. And if you have 2nd monitor.

  • HT202856 Dell P2715Q for 2013 Mac Pro.

The new Dell P2715Q 4K monitor looks to be a technically compatible monitor for the new Mac Pro.  I see it supports DP 1.2 and MST.
Anyone using this monitor and and vouch for its use.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I just setup a pair of these P2715Q monitors with my 2013 MacPro using the supplied MiniDisplayPort to Displayport cables. The screens look fantastic. The main issue I'm having is after restarting or cold starting the computer. Both monitors appear and only show a blank desktop. No menu bar, no Finder icons, etc.
The only fix so far is to power off one of the monitors - then back on. Then all is fine. I've unchecked the Mission Control thing to allow displays to have separate spaces. On a normal startup - the second monitor is usually just a blank desktop. It's like they are both showing that blank desktop.
You mentioned you were having similar issues. Any other resolution to this?
I ordered a pair of minidisplayport to minidisplayport adaptors to try - incase the rub is with the included cable configuration. I've tried resetting PRAM, NVRAM, etc. - Tried different thunderbolt ports.
Actually  - when trying different thunderbolt ports - things got wonky in that the second monitor stopped being acknowledged by the computer. I kept moving the thunderbolt cable around - then it finally came back on. Not fun.
Another strange issue yesterday was when I sat down to work - both monitors were in sleep mode (computer still running though) - the primary monitor wouldn't activate. Even after a restart. I couldn't even power cycle the monitor with the power button. I ultimately had to pull the power cord on the monitor to get it back. Again... not fun.
One thing to note as well - My primary monitor is Rev 01... the secondary was built 2 months earlier and shows Rev. 00. I'm waiting for them to replace the second monitor. These guys update the firmware and other items and never tell anyone what's changed. But I sure want the most current build.
    Any thoughts? - I'm running 10.10.2.
    Thanks,
    Sam

  • Dell PowerVault MD1000 with Mac OS X Server 10.5 (mac pro with fiber connec

Hey Guys. Its time that i add a bulk amount of storage to our mac network.
Currently Our network consists of one mac server which is a Mac Pro with Mac OSX Server 10.5 installed on it with 4 x 750GB Hard Drives with a couple of client machines. I now need to add atleast another 6TB to the network. This needs to be seen as the server as one drive so that 6TB needs to be raid prosume (raid 5)
Now in the Mac Pro server we have a Fibre Card that we dont currently use with 2 slots. My Plan is to buy a Dell PowerVault™ MD1000 (http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...ulmd1000sata) and put in the amount of hard drives i require into the Dell Storage.
Would this work. If i bought the Dell PowerVault™ MD1000, would i beable to hook this upto the mac server and use it as a storage drive? Although i do no networking. Im still very new to this.
Ideally im looking for something similar to an Xserve Raid, but with out the Apple price tag on the outside if you guys no what i mean.
    Best,
    Nathaniel

You would at least need a SAS/SATA controller - preferably a hardware RAID one, much like the one bundled with this unit - but it also needs to be OS X compatible.
I would look for something that is known to work, not something you "cobble" together.
The FibreChannel card does you no good if you haven't got a device with FC ports.

  • Best Router for both a Mac Pro with Leopard and a Dell

I have posted this question in another forum, but maybe this discussion page is the better one for my question, especially in light of all the connectivity problems I'm reading about for people who have upgraded to Leopard -
Can anyone suggest a good router to purchase that would work with no problems for a Mac Pro with Leopard?
Or, the other side of the coin - what routers have you personally had problems with?
I would be connecting to the router via an ethernet cable, but I'm looking specifically for a g and b router. I need to cover my roommate too - she has a Dell and she uses a wireless usb adapter to connect wirelessly. We have a modem (cable or DSL, I think?) and high-speed internet service.
We were previously using a Netgear router, but suddenly it won't work for more than 10-15 min before it loses connection after we reset it. And this happened before I updated to the Leopard.

Apple AirPort Extreme has served my mixed environment very well. You can buy a refurbished one from Apple and save some $.

  • Mac pro (late 2013), Dell UP2414Q and windows8.1 bootcamp

I bought mac pro (late 2013) and Dell UP2414Q.
Monitor is set on DP1.2 and works normally in OS X. I get 4K@60Hz, I can switch to lower resolutions like 1920x1080 and it works.
Then I Installed windwos 8.1 which I need for some testing and I have aproblem here:
When DP 1.2 is enabled, and I switch to 1920x1080 resolution, I get 2 pictures on screen squeezed together - totally useless and I can't work on that.
If I disable DP 1.2 and revert on monitor to DP 1.1 it works normally. But I switch to 4K with only DP1.1 enabled I can get only 30Hz out.
As it seems under OS X I can use any resolution with DP 1.2 enabled, but not in windows 8.1 via bootcamp.
I would really really love to get this working, I tried next things, but nothing worked:
    -update bootcamp support
-update AMD gpu drivers from their web page
I already wrote on Dell forum and I got redirected here on apple forums.

which model  rMBP 13"  or rMBP 15"
the 13 will support it with the latest intel drivers.
the 15 will support it with the latest nvidia drivers.
i have both models and both are working correctly.

    Hi Grant,
Thanks for taking the time to think about my issue and respond. But I don't see where your response is relevant.
I want to connect two monitors, each via Mini-Display Port, and only one will work at a time. I am not using DVI cables at all. In this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6068, it clearly states that I can connect three monitors via Thunderbolt (mini-display port) as long as they're on different busses. I was doing that, and it didn't work.
What display configurations can I use with my Mac Pro (Late 2013)?
You can connect up to six displays to your Mac Pro (Late 2013) running Windows 8 via Boot Camp. Check the list below to be sure you're setting up your displays in a supported configuration via the HDMI and Thunderbolt ports.
    You can connect:
Six Apple LED Cinema Displays (27-inch) or third-party displays via Thunderbolt. For best results, attach displays to different Thunderbolt busses when possible (see figure below).
Three Apple Thunderbolt Displays (27-inch). Connect only one per Thunderbolt bus (see figure below). Note: You could connect three more LED Cinema Displays (27-inch) or third-party displays, one per Thunderbolt bus, for a total of six displays.
Two Apple Thunderbolt Displays (on Thunderbolt bus 1 and 2) and one 4K Ultra HD TV using HDMI.
Two 4K displays (on Thunderbolt buses 1 and 2) and one 4K Ultra HD TV on HDMI).

  • Mac Pro with Dell UP2414Q Sleep Wake Issue

    Hi,
I have *two* Dell UP2414Q displays connected to a new Mac Pro, both using Display Port 1.2 (MST) setting in order to get 4K @ 60Hz.
Works fine. Except Google Chrome which is really lame at redrawing all these pixels when you scroll up/down.
The issue is: when the displays go to sleep for a longer period of time (actually it's probably when the Mac Pro itself has gone to sleep) and I wake the system up, the Dells sometimes won't wake up!
And if I start fiddling with the display buttons I will get a half image (left half of the screen). Same problem on each display except sometime it's the first one that doesn't wake up, sometimes it's the second one and sometimes it's both. Unfortunately the situation where they both wake up is extremely rare
Has anyone else had similar troubles?
Note: I have had similar sleep wake issues with just one UP2414Q connected.
    I'm running OS X 10.9.4 (of course).
I'm also having a 3rd smaller display connected though a DVI adapter. That one wakes up 100% of the time. I previously had 3 of these and they did always wake up all 3 without issues.
    -Francois.

I have this issue with the UP2414Q monitor and my new Mac Pro . . . . . and then some.
I started by losing the right half of the screen on wake up. After about two months of use, my monitor has developed a fault where both sides of the monitor are displayed but at seemingly very different calibrations. The left half is contrasty and the right half seems to be correctly matched to my working profile. This is using the display port connections. HDMI doesn't have this problem but it also won't run at 60Hz, which was an important factor in my choice of this monitor.
At this point I contacted both Apple and Dell. Although I have had quite a few different Apple support staff over a period of a week or so, they did keep good notes, were very patent and seemed to take a genuine interest into trouble shooting it. I cannot say the same for Dell. At first they did ask questions and did the right thing by sending a replacement. It worked fine on display port, then on HDMI but when I connected it back to display port the split screen problem occurred on the brand new replacement one too. After a day of fiddling with connections it went back to displaying correctly with all connections and has not reverted but it does now have the dead right halve on wakeup more frequently than before. I reconnected the original monitor but that has the split screen problem and I can't find a way of getting it to go away. It is unusable.
This incident with the replacement monitor was five days ago. In that time I have tried to contact Dell support by the original e-mail of the technician that initially helped and by phone, through the support number. The email gets the repeated response "Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for your email. I have left for the day, hence my reply will be delay". It happens in the mooring or the afternoon. A phone call to Dell's support number always starts with a promise to be transferred to the technician dealing with my case and, without fail ends by me being left on hold indefinitely with a terrible one minute audio loop followed by a repeated promise of the next available agent. I once waited over 30 minutes, just to test it. I live in Australia but this was clearly an international call centre. Dell obviously have no intention of dealing with my case. They will have to talk soon though because I still have an extra one of their monitors.
Unless there is a firmware update for this monitor, I would strongly advise against buying one for a Mac, or any Dell product for that matter.
