DELL  3007WFP-HC with MacPro/ATI X1900XT?

I am considering buying Dell 3007WFP-HC as the second monitor for my Mac Pro (equipped with ATI X1900XT).
Is there any problem using this combination, especially the flickering/dancing pixel problem?

No, I've had no problems. Philip provides the core monitor components to apple and dell for these items. The OS "saw" the dells instantly, loaded a solid default profile and they look really good. You can still tweak these like any other monitor.
That is not to say that may not prefer the apple product over the dell. But, I'm really happy with the dells and independant testing by multiple labs has not reported the "flickering/dancing pixel" problem that is being reported by users.

  • OpenGL not working with Photoshop CS4 on MacPro + ATI X1900XT

    Hi,
i am running a MacPro 2x2 2.66 Ghz with 12GB Ram, an ATI X1900 XT 512MB and a GeForce 7300GT. The ATI is in Slot 1. Connected to the ATI card is an Apple CD 30", connected to the GeForce is an Apple CD 23" and a Sanyo TV-LCD.
*The problem:* when running Photoshop CS4 (Beta) i can not enable OpenGL as Photoshop does not recognise any video card (selectable under PSCS4/Preferences/Performance/...).
Adobe says in a TechNote (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405711&sliceId=1#mac) that this card should be working. The ROM of the ATI is up-to-date.
What - or where - else could i change something to get this to work? Any hint?
    Thank you.

Like some of the other posters, I have a MacPro with two video cards, the ATI X1900XT and the OEM graphics card. I bought the ATI to drive a 30" display. I have been using the OEM card to drive the Wacom. When I learned of bird's eye view in CS4, I too looked in preferences for the OpenGL status and found it disabled. Following the above suggestions regarding the potential two card confusion, I moved the Wacom to the remaining open spot on the X1900XT and removed the OEM card.
Voila! OpenGL became available in CS4 preferences and I also noticed a significant improvement in the screen redraw rate (I went into the advanced options when turning OpenGL on and also checked use for image drawing). Bird's eye view is also an excellent feature which I will use constantly. Note: To use bird's eye you must hold down the "H" key (even if the hand tool is selected). While holding the "H", start to drag the mouse and the image will zoom out to show you where you are in the scaled down image. Makes the Navigator view obsolete.

  • Are there any issues with MacPros+Dual Displays and FCP?

I have a MacPro (2.1) with an ATI X1900XT graphics card (2 DVI ports). It is currently hooked up to a single 24". My usage is mostly Browsing, Final Cut Suite and Video. I am planning on upgrading to Dual Displays (2*24" or 2*27") but read about some vague issues the ATI might have when using dual displays and FCP (Color more specifically). Are there any specific issues I should be aware of before getting a second display?
    Many thanks in advance

One graphics card? Two displays? ZERO ISSUES! Not sure what "vague issue the ATI" cards have, but I have that exact card, and run two 24" displays with no problems. I have run dual displays for years. I find working with one very...cramped.

  • MacPro ATI Radeon HD 4870

Have 12 Mac Pros w/ ATI Radeon HD 4870 each displaying DVI-D out to Samsung P2570HD. 7 of them are working fine but the other five are displaying the start up screen then turning black / monitor reads 'No Display'.
Any related issues with MacPros/ ATI Radeon HD 4870 cards or Samsung P2570HDs? Any suggestions?

The resolution shown at start-up comes from PRAM. Partway through the start-up sequence, the computer loads the displays preferences and switches to those stored resolutions. That is probably the point at which your displays go black due to settings that are out of range.
Booting with the Shift key held down may allow you keep the default display resolution, since the System loads with many extensions turned off, and may use a default display setting. At that point, making a change that causes the displays preferences to be re=written should clear the problem.
A more complex alternative is to boot from the Installer DVD, but do not install, and use Terminal commands to delete the display preferences files. These preferences will be re-created at next normal startup.

  • Display shift with ATi X1900XT

OK… it's my turn to ask a question and have a problem. In actual fact is less a problem than a big annoyance.
What is happening is that when I either boot, reboot or come out of sleep, the entire displayed image/desktop is shifted 1 pixel both up and to the left. The simplest way to tell is that the top left corner isn't rounded like the top right corner because it's chopped off by 1 pixel each way.
I can however rectify it by turning my display off then back on again else resetting the display to default via the OSD. This can get hugely annoying as one could imagine.
Anyone else get this problem with or without an ATi X1900XT?
By the way, I'm using a Dell 2405FPW 24" display although I doubt it's the display as it's be working fine with both a Mac mini and a PowerBook.

Ned you have a tough one here
LOL!! Why is it always my problems that are the tough ones. I would have thought it would be fairer if we shared them.
As for your suggestions, I didn't think of trying a lower, yet "incorrect", resolution though I'll give it a shot after I finish installing Windows… for the 100th time . Hmmm… I'll see if it does it in Windows too.
Like you, I think the issue is either with the card or the driver although right now I'm leaning towards the driver. I've still got to install Mac OS X on another driver so I'll see if it happens there as well.
To anyone else, if you wouldn't mind taking 2 seconds to have a look at the top left of your display the next time you reboot to see if I'm the only one with this. Thank you!

  • Update 10.8.2 from 10.8.1 fails with MacPro 2009 and ATI HD 5870

I tried to update my Mac Pro 2009 from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2, after the download and install of 10.8.2 my mac completly hang in a white screen mode with broken graphics. No chance to fix that - i nearly tried everything. All hardware is okay, as i went back to 10.8.1 from a cloned drive.
Yes, the configuration of my mac is complex, here is a list:
    Mac Pro 2009  2x 2.66 GhZ Quad-Core
    96 GB RAM - 3x 16GB + 3x 16GB
    ATI RADEON HD5870 1GB
Apple RAID Card installed (with 4 drives raid 5 attached)
Apple Fibre Channel Card installed (2x 4GB Fiberchannel)
    Monitor NEC PA301W
    Booting from a Crucial M$ 512MB SSD
Again: All works perfectly fine on 10.8.1.... As I went back through a cloned drive.
BUT it`s impossible to boot the machine even from an attached (firewire) clean installed 10.8.2 (i tried that too)
10.8.2 worls perfectly on my the Mac Book Air, no prblems upgrading at all- BUT did anybody know of a bug - especially related with the ATI HD 5870 in an MacPro 2009 ?? I repeat myself, all works perfectly great on 10.8.1 but there is as of now no chance to go up to 10.8.2 without getting a white blank screen.
So please, did anybody had the same problems with the ATI 5870 ? Or with the Apple Raid Card or Aplle Fibrechannel 2 Port Card? Is it the combination within my Mac Pro?
I would really appreciate any tipp, help or support !
    Thanks!!!

After successfully installing 10.8.2 from 10.8.1 - which never worked with 96 GB (6x 16GB) on my Mac Pro, it worked perfectly with reducing the RAM to 48 GB. See posting above.
After the 10.8.2 Update I added again 16GB to a total of 64 GB - WORKED!
    Then I tried it again with all 6x 16GB (3x 16 + 3x 16Gb) FAILED ... again the same frozen broken screen on 10.8.2 - whitch works PERFECTLY under 10.8.1 (!!)
    Last not least I added 1x 16GB more, so right now I have 3x 16GB on Bank 1 + 2x 16GB on Bank 2 - in total 80GB and it WORKS!!!
The memory is fine ! as i changed the different RAM Modules, so it`s NOT a defective RAM Module. For me right now the solution is either to run 10.8.2 with 80GB OR 10.8.1 with 96GB.
I guess this really has to be a BUG, or has anybody else another idea WHY 96GB RAM work on 10.8.1 and (in my case max. 80 GB RAM) work only in 10.8.2?
Maybe this solves some problems for other with >64GB RAM installed when they want to upgrade from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 .... If you can run your system with more than 80GB PLEASE let me know. Right now I have at least one spare 16GB module.
so that config is working now:
    Mac Pro 2009  2x 2.66 GhZ Quad-Core
    80 GB RAM - 3x 16GB + 2x 16GB
    ATI RADEON HD5870 1GB
Apple RAID Card installed (with 4 drives raid 5 attached)
Apple Fibre Channel Card installed (2x 4GB Fiberchannel)
    Monitor NEC PA301W
    Booting from a Crucial M$ 512MB SSD

  • Opengl fullscreen with 2 x ATI X1900XT on multiple screens

Can anyone tell me how to divide an Carbobn based OpenGl rendering over two (or three) screens using two ATI X1900XT videocards..
Say the OpenGL viewport has a 3072x768 pixels dimension..
This is not a problem when I create a large window with a border using glutInitWindowSize(windowWidth, windowHeight); followed by glutCreateWindow("window").
    But when using glutGameModeString("3072x768:32@75"); followed by glutEnterGameMode();
only the first screen will function at it's maximum screensize..
I've found something about Rendering contexts.., but I don't know how to implement it yet..

  • HT202856 Macpro 2009 with an ATI 5770HD cannot support a 4k monitor?

Just bougth a 4k display samsung UD590 but of course (as all non apple products..) it doesn't work.
Can i ask why my Macpro 2009 with an ATI 5770HD cannot support a 4k monitor when also on AmigaOS4(!!!!!) with an ancient 4750 it works???
    Can someone explain me why??

well , according to AMD's website, the ATI 5770 HD's max resolution over DisplayPort is 2560 x 1600. It could be the cable. "It doesn't work"  covers a lot of ground, sir.  have you recently updated your Macpro 2009? How is the monitor connected--DisplayPort or DVI. Apparently one of the video outputs will run a 24' monitor, one will run up to a 30" monitor (the DVI), and one should run up to the max resolution. Hopefully this helps your problem

  • What cable to connect 24" Dell to G5 with 800XT card?!

    Hi All,
The Dell has a smaller dvi port than the Powermac with the ATI card.... is there a specific cable I need?!
Any help would be very much appreciated...
    Jon

Hi Steve, The Dell does, but the 800XT card seems to have a slightly bigger dvi port, a few mm longer. My 23" Apple screen hooks right up to it with no problems but the DVI cable that came with the Dell is too small.
    How frustrating!

  • Dell 3007WFP and a Mac Mini

    Hey guys
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but it was the only one that seemed appropriate. I'm thinking about buying a mac mini, and i want to know if it will work with my 30" Dell 3007WFP Monitor.
I know it wont work with the Apple 30" display, and ive found posts saying that the mac mini and dell are compatible, and that they arent. If anyone has a definite answer, (ie: they've done it themselves and know it works) any responses would be great.
    Thanks in advance
    Glenn

The Mac Mini has a maximum display resolution of 1920 x 1200. the 30" Dell 3007WFP Monitor is 2560 x 1600, so cannot work at full resolution with a Mac Mini. You need a computer with dual-link DVI.

  • Need 3 monitor support and currently have ATI  X1900XT

I have a single x1900xt and now have 3 monitors I need to power. Is it possible to combine NVIDIA cards and ATI or do I need to purchase another x1900xt? It is important that this setup work both in windows XP as well as OSX. I am planning on connecting a 30" and 2 20" monitors. Anyone have a similar configuration yet or can make any recommendations on a proper setup?
Mac Pro dual 2.66GHz 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

For the benfit of others, my (AKA Neurorad) original posts from Macrumors:
I have two Apple XT1900 upgrade kits. Installing the second card can be hazardous - it is a tight fit for slot 3. Removing the adjacent SATA drives will help. The release tabs on the slot sockets can be easily broken off if you do not have good access - I have proven that.
    1. Yes, you can install two ATI cards, one in the 16 lane slot 1 position, and the other in either slot 2 or 3. It will not fit in slot 4. Slot 2 shares bandwith with slot 1 and can give you up to 8 lanes each. Slot 3 can give your 4 lanes at most for a card, but leaves slot 1 at 16 - probably the best if a secondary monitor is used on the slot 3 card. BUT - only the Mac OS works properly. Windows XP Pro get confused and the device manager has several additional unusable system components, including the 16 lane PCI express slot. Bootcamp 1.1.1 does not correct this. In Windows, you cannot properly activate a monitor on the second card or properly adjust to monitor attached to the slot 1 card. Not very useful. The grossly reduced bandwith of the second card in Mac OS X and the conflicts in Windows makes this useless for anyone who wants to boot into Windows.
    More info: http://developer.apple.com/documenta...mentation.html
There is an application that helps manage the card settings called "Expansion Slot Utility" that appears after you add a card. It is in the /System/Library/CoreSerivces folder.
    2. You CAN run the ATI X19000XT in slot 1 and put a Nvidia 7300 in slot 4. Again, Mac OS X handles this without a problem, but - surprise - Windows chokes and cannot use both at the same time.
Next, an RMA for the second card. Any suggestions from anyone??
Windows does boot with either Two ATI or an ATI and Nvidia card. WIth two ATI cards, only one the slot 1 card is active (tested with only one monitor hooked to each). The resolution is too low and cannot be properly set. With an ATI and Nvidia card, I was able to boot into the ATI card on one monitor, again only is low resolutions. I reinstalled the Nvidia drivefr then windows would boot only to the Nvidia card,a lthough at decreased resolution . I did not try the Nvidia card in slots 2 or 3.
I gave up with the second card (either Nvidia or ATI) after no luck in Windows via Bootcamp. I am hope to try again. The presence of the second ATI card in slot 3 messed up Windows Device Manager. Besides the usual PCI slots being flagged before I added anything, the additional ATI card caused the slot 1 driver to report a problem under Device Manager. Even if it worked, running the card in at best a 4 lane slot seems counterproductive (the only way to preserve the full 16 lanes in Slot 1 is to put the additioanl card in slot 3. The ATI card will not fit in slot four (8 lanes) although the Nvidia 7300 can fit in slot 4.

  • ATI X1900XT and Boot Camp 1.3

I've just upgraded to an ATI X1900 XT connected to two Dell 24" LCDs. When booting into Windows XP using Boot Camp Beta 1.3 the screens flicker badly and the second screen shows only about ont third the width until the Windows 'Welcome' page appears, after the drivers are loaded.
When I had the nVidia 7300GT in both screens mirroed normal quality (stretched 640x480 8bit) video during boot until the drivers loaded.
Is this normal with the ATI? It doesn't look right but works OK once Windows has booted and runs both monitors at 1920x1200 32bit colour.
When booting into Mac OSX the card works normally.
    Has anyone experienced this 'fault'.
I've installed a clean version of Boot Camp and Windows but nothing has changed the fault.

It's certainly the case that the drivers haven't loaded, I uderstand that. What I don't understand is why the nVidia card could operate both monitors during the intial load, prior to the Windows drivers loading, and display correctly on both monitors but the ATI isn't doing this.
As I said I suspect the card isn't locing into an accepted resfresh rate for the monitors until the drivers are loaded.
I'm not inclined to change the Windows drivers to Catalyst as the cards use EFI firmware and I'm not sure about the compatibility with Boot Camp. Regardless, once loaded the drivers work. It's during boot up, only into Windows XP, the card is acting weirdly.
The other weird anomally is that it requires the monitors to be connected in reverse order for Windows. The main monitor is connected to the 2nd DVI port and the secondary monitor to the 1st DVI port. If not when Windows finishes booting it indicates my right hand monitor is monitor 1 (with the Windows menus/start etc) and the left is monitor 2.
When booted into OSX the monitors are detected correctly.
By changing them and then rearranging the monitor order in OSX I can work around this but it is seriusly weird.

  • Mac Pro 1,1 Ati X1900xt black screen on cold boots

I am having trouble with my video on cold boots. The video does not respond when directly booting into OS X but I can boot into bootcamp blindly and then I can restart into OS X. Kinda a back door entrance to OS X. I cannot tell if it is the Video Card (ATI x1900xt) or if it is in the Monitor as they both work under windows then back into OS X. As soon as I shut down, everything goes black sceen and I get no video input. I have tried three brand new different adapter from DVI-d to VGA on the computer all of them do the same thing. If there is ANYONE that might be able to shed some light on this, PLEASE HELP!!!!
Here is Everything I have tried...
    1. nvram reset - done
    2. SMC reset - done
    3. pulled all ram and video card out - done.
    4. pulled all extra drives out - done.
    5. re installed OS X - Done.
    6. checked DIAG-TEST - all LED's respond normally.
    7. tried talking to the "genius techie" at MAC store to no avail - he was completely useless.
    Thanks in advance.

This is now a three week plus old question.
There are tips on video cards like this:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
    To pull the card every 3-4 months to remove dust clogging the card's air chamber;
To boost system 3 of 4 fans to improve cooling and air flow.
Problems with that card and WoW have been around since early days on WoW forum.
And that there is a recall for some of the Mac Pro X1900s, also found on above web site.
AT this point in time, I'd skip ebay for ATI 5770 as long as you run 10.6.5 as you won't be able to boot anything lower than 10.6.4, so you need some good bootable backup strategy and more.
I have the 8800GT 1st gen (from Apple) $279 though there are/were tips on flashing too.
And ebay 'macvideo' or something has had 8800s if you want to go that route.

  • Colour difference issues on wide gamut Dell 3007wfp

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if someone could help with this problem that is driving me insane. I have tried a lot of possible solutions I found online, but nothing seems to work.
The problem I've got is that when I save a JPEG in Photoshop through Save for web I get oversaturated and darker colours in web browsers on both of my monitors.
What I am trying to achieve is seeing the same colours in PS as the ones I get in web browsers. I don't really care about the colours in PS being incorrect for print, etc, as I am a web designer and the only thing that matters to me is monitor colour.
While playing around with colour settings (changing them and then doing a Save for web) I was able to achieve exactly the same colours on both monitors that did at the same time match the initial Photoshop design - stupidly I can't remember what I have changed in the existing PS file colour settings, but the colours went quite dull, then when saving for web they looked exactly how I wanted them to look on both monitors, they also did match the initial colour of the PS file. Of course switching to different colour settings each time I need to save something for web is not ideal, but I would be quite happy if someone could explain to me how to at least achieve this...
    My setup:
    Dell 3007wfp wide gamut
    Dell 2405wfp
    Windows 7 64bit
    Photoshop CS4 64bit
    Pantone Huey calibrator
    My Windows colour management settings:
My Photoshop colour settings for the file I am working on atm:
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you

I don't really care about the colours in PS being incorrect for print,
etc, as I am a web designer and the only thing that matters to me is
    monitor colour.
photoshop prints through a Source Profile> Print Profile CONVERSION
your monitor profile has nothing to do with how Ps prints your source color
(at least in my work flow)
photoshop displays RGB color through a Source Profile> Monitor Profile CONVERSION
your print profile has nothing to do with how Ps displays your source color
after you get your monitor profile ruled out,
the next step is to verify if Ps is using the correct Source Profile, and if you are Saving your web images in sRGB, and if you are embedding the sRGB profile or not
the last step would be to nail down if your test browser reads embedded profiles (it is color managed like Ps)
and what profile the browser applies by Default (in the case it is not color managed, or the test files are untagged)
and if that Default profile is then CONVERTED to Monitor RGB or sent straight to the monitor...

  • "solarization" w/ ATI X1900xt Card in Aperture (RAW only)

I have installed the ATI x1900xt card and have a solarization issue with images in the Canon .CR2 RAW format. JPG images are fine.
This started happening soon after the upgrade to Leopard 10.5.2.
I had done a re-install of Aperture to bring it back to 2.0 but still had the problem (and upgraded back to 2.1.1)
I run dual cards, and have the GeForce 7300 as secondary (the ATI x1900 as my main card)
If I run just the GeForce 7300, I have no issues, the issue is only present with the x1900. Even with the latest upgrade to 10.5.5, there is no 'fix.
If I move the Aperture window to a monitor running off the GeForce 7300, minimize and then maximize so that Aperture runs off that card, no problems.
Anyone else having this issue and know of a fix other than buying a different video card. I just bought the ATI x1900 4 months ago and can't afford to just buy another one.

The release of Leopard 10.5.6 has solved this issue, within the release notes is reference to Graphics updates to increase speed and stability within Aperture.
