Dell DJ Belkin Desktop Stand Fits the Zen Tou

Howdy, I was wondering if anyone knew how close the Zen Touch 20GB and the st Gen Dell DJ are in size and shape. I saw in another post about Creative making the st Gen Dell's, so I got to looking and low and behold almost all of the buttons on the side and the connections on top are the same, of course the Zen has the touch pad on front. In any case Belkin makes a desktop stand for the st Gen Dell unit and I wanted to know if the Touch would fit into it's If anyone knows for sure please post!

• Anyone tried to download the Dell DJ firmware to use with their Zen Tou

I've been reading on the boards that these two devices are quite similar, so I was wondering if anyone has tried downloading the PlaysForSure firmware for the Dell DJ and tried to use it on the Zen Touch?
I've been sitting on an un-opened Zen Touch (which I recieved for my birthday two months ago), trying to decide whether to trust that the firmware will be released and open it OR return it and purchase something that will work immediately with my Yahoo! Unlimited subscription. Anyone have any advice? I really do want to open it, but I don't want all the songs that I've downloaded via subscription to go to waste. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! HELP!

You can't use the Dell firmware on the Touch.

• Are they getting any closer to releasing a new firmware for the Zen Tou

I mean so I wouldn't have to use stupid Mediasource to transfer music, and could just plug my Z. T. into any computer and transfer music. It seems to me that some bright consumer could write a program to do this, or is it impossible for this to happen for some reason?

I think its pretty bad that a company that made over $375 million in Q2 and reported sales of over 2 million mp3 players is putting such little investement into providing updates for existing (still on sale) products, mainly the Zen Touch and Zen Extras... They seem to think that only Zen micro users deserve Firmware updates despite the fact that a large number of us have bought and continue to buy other existing creative models! Surely with such high profit and demand they must be able to put more resources into updates for their players (mainly Firmware), or at worst give us a serious time frame as when to expect the updates (if i had known how long i would be waiting i might not have bought my Zen Touch in favour of a differnet player). I have always looked upon Creative as a very trustworthy company that deli'very high quality and high spec products. I never for a moment thought that the updates would be so few and far between! I am afraid to say I am dissapointed :smileyindifferent:.Groan over!:smileyvery-happy:Message Edited by lukeg_uk on 02-8-2005 2:29 AM

• Any universal remotes for the zen tou

Looks like Creative won't budge on bringing back the FM wired remote or any new remotes for the Zen Touch. Pity- I think they would still make a profit. So does anyone else make wired remotes suitable for use with the Zen Touch 20GB?

• What's your setup with the Zen Tou

I've had my Zen Touch for a couple of months and so far so good - only two freezes and thats all.
I've been using WMP0 to organise my music and rip tracks from CD's, but have used Creative mediasource to transfer everthing over to the touch.
Big problem is that my library in WMP0, which is up to date and complete, is way ahead of my library in Mediasource. Before i added more music i made sure that media sniffer was enabled, and pointing towards my music folder. It picked up some artists that i added a few days ago, but anything within the last two days is yet to appear. About 0GB of CD ripped mp3's were added, so im wondering if its the volume of music which mediasource has to add in to its library which is the problem.
I eventually got this problem sorted, by creating a playlist in WMP0 of all tracks and loading it into the library in mediasource. (The import tracks function kept freezing in mediasource) This new playlist was imported into a new/clean library in mediasource.
Basically i have a pretty much updated lib in mediasource now, but i have some questions;
a) I could have sworn that i got the touch to appear in the sync part of WMP0, but everytime i plug the touch into the cable wmp0 freezes while trying to search for devices. I've tried a couple of different techniquees to get this to work;
. Load mediasource-> Plug in Touch (Loads lib)-> Load WMP0-> Searches but then freezes
2. Load WMP0-> Plug in Touch-> Searches but then freezes
3. Plug in touch first with no programs running-> Touch doesn't dock
I'm pretty sure i used the st technique before, which worked ok but doesn't seem to anymore.
b)Until i created a new library in mediasource, the program was duplicating entries of around a /4 of my entire music collection. I've always used WMP0 to rip tracks, rather than mediasource so im clueless to why these tracks became duplicated.
Thats about it, these problems are temporaly sorted for now - i have all my music on the touch, but after hours of battling with WMP0 and mediasource in particular. Hopefully with new firmware i can stick to WMP0, but im curious to how other zen touch users connect, organise and transfer their music libraries.

funkymojo44 wrote:Sounds simple; i take it the mp3 gain analyses and corrects the volume of each mp3. I never realised that Realplayer could work with the touch, i take it that it recognises the touch ok?
Correct on the MP3gain.
RealPlayer 0.5 (free version) works great with the Touch. You'll need to install a plug-in. Very simple to setup.

• Arm strap for the Zen Mic

I'd like to take my Micro to the gym, but I need an arm strap because I'm afraid of bumping the unit with a weight if I were to clip it to my waist.
Could anyone recommend a good arm band/strap that will fit the player snugly? Anything specifically made for the zen micro (5gb) would be a plus.
Thanks!
p.s. I won't be able to check this board too often. If you have a suggestion and would be so kind, please e-mail me at [email protected]][email protected]. Thanks again.

I got one of these
http://www.tunebelt.com/ab4
which is pretty good and very affordable. Good service from them as well!
As it says it was intended for ipodmini but also fits the Zen Micro.

• About the Zen Touch power adapte

I bought a Zen Touch off Ebay and realized after I bought it, that it didn't come with a power adapter! It does come with a USB cable and they said you can charge it via computer. My question is: Is there any power adapter that can fit the zen touch? Can i just buy it at wal-mart? Or is there another product that has the same tip as the zen touch?
Thanks

Here is a link to buy a brand-new AC power adapter. You can also buy replacement batteries from this site. Bookmark it!?http://store.l-f-l.com/cgi-bin/cp-ap...f=TESA3-050500?Cheers!?Sesquash

• Accessories/Cases for a Zen Tou

Does anyone have any good links to websites or stores selling attracti've and useful cases for the Zen Touch?
I've found very little...a couple leather cases on eBay that apparently fit the Zen Touch (but were designed for PDA's), and a UK website selling the Exspect (sic) black, clear, and grey cases in 3-packs...for something like 28 pounds (about $40 or so). Why I would need THREE cases for one MP3 player is beyond me...if all I wanted was a fashion accessory I would have bought an iPod. :smileytongue:
Does anyone have suggestions or sources for nice cases or other accessories for my Touch?

Here's one I was looking at when I considered the Touch:

• I need a case for the X-fi, does it fit inside the zen plastic ca

Just bought the 8gb one and I need a case for it(was wondering if it fits inside the ZEN plastic case and would all the holes and buttons be available?). I want to carry it a strap around my neck but I could propably get used to keeping it in my pocket if it doesnt fit inside the zen case :P. And one final question. Does the silicone case for the x-fi protect the screen? If it doesnt and if it doesnt fit inside the zen case then the only case that I should get is the leather case for x-fi?
Thanks in advance!

no, you can't put your Zen X-Fi into the case fpr Zen.
because of the buttons' location and player's depth.
therefore you need to buy a new one.
i have a silicon casefor X-Fi.
it doesn't protect the screen actually.
i think it can protect the player from fingerprint or scratch.
however, it makes the nine buttons harder to press.
i don't have a leather case so i have no idea about it.
hope it helps.

I am trying to purchase basic lightroom  software (desktop stand alone), but am confsed by the cloud, which I do not really want. My aim is developing RAW from my camera.

The standalone version doesn't use Creative Cloud features, so if you don't want the cloud just get the standalone version.
Note that if you want to sync your Lightroom desktop images to Lightroom on an iPad or iPhone (or the Android versions coming later), then a Creative Cloud subscription would be required.

• How to i get the pages window to fit the screen

Just downloaded the pages app.  How do i make the program fit the whole screen of the macbook?

Correct the Locked full screen IS windows behavior and has not been the way Mac OS has worked to-date.
Its a long standing bone of contention especially among early switchers that are so used to having IE/MS Word/ Outlook etc.. spread across their monitor with a swathe of white each side of the actual text.
OSx behavior is based on a true desktop and a genuine multi tasking metaphor (Also the reason Macs own range monitors have been wide screen for so long)
It is designed to enhance work flow and specifically take advantage of TRUE full drag and drop across the entire OS with use of the desktop as a conduit rather than simply programme launcher (The way many Windows users do)
Interestingly with the continued OS convergence today see W7 acknowledge that the locked screen approach being obsolete in a multi tasking work environment with "new" the snap to feature allow two windows side by by side
(Its actually not new but automated tile windows vertically that's be there since the dawn of time (hidden like much of windows - Right click over the task bar choose Tile Windows Vertically - Very intuitive !)
At the same time Apple are building in Full Screen functionality into OS10.7 Lion !
Personally not sure i'll be using it !

• Questions about the Zen TO

i am planning to buy the zen touch because its cheap and a good value, but however, the lack of accessories scares me a little. Will creative design a case especially for it, because its really not comfortable taking it out and putting it back in with the included case, creative needs to make a case that allows users to use the touch without taking it out. I heard creative is going to release a brand new firmware for the touch, i really think the folks at creative need to bring back the eax feature, the calendar just like the old zen xtra.
Here are my questions though,
If i buy the fm wired remote for the touch, will that activate the eax function,
also is there any docks availible for the zen touch, i read somewhere that the belkin dock for dell dj is compatible with the touch, i just want to confirm with the creative staff that this is compatible so it doesnt destroy my touch when i buy it.
Thanks for any replies,
Sergey

Spetznaz24,
The FM Wired Remote will not activate EAX on the Zen Touch. This has to be incorporated directly into the player and it is not at this time. I do not have any information on new cases however I will pass your case suggestion on. I also cannot guarantee anything about 3rd party adaptors made for other products.

• Battery failure although my battery doesn't fit the exchange program?

hello there!
i know there have been a lot of threads about the battery life and failures in the macbook pro but i don't know which one fits my case...
my mbp is a week 13 and has no problems at all. i don't use the battery that often - by now i have 14 cycles.
my battery's serial number doesn't fit the exchange program but today happened this odd thing:
i used my mbp on battery for less than two hours and the battery symbol said that i still have about 50 minutes of battery power. all of a sudden it turned off (as described in many other threads) without any warning and i couldn't turn it on without plugging in the power cable. when i turned it on it started from deep sleep mode (dimmed desktop).
...of course i did reset the pram and stuff - but what is going on? as i said i don't meet the exchange program for faulty batteries but still it doesn't seem to work proper.
what can i do?
thanks in advance, guys!
j.

hi and thank you all for your replies so far!
over the weekend i took some screenshots showing the various total of mAh. i have no idea if that is normal like this? and the battery is behaving normal again, no random shutdown... you can find the images under the following link...
http://www.propaganda-pixel.de/mbp/mbp.htm
in addition i added a photo of my magsafe... now that it comes to the battery issue i got slightly concerned if this crimpy cord should be like this (not that this thing starts to melt on me!).
when i transport my mbp i wind the cord around those two hooks and i never pull the magsyfe by the cord out. but still it looks like this.
the power cord is from a week 10 macbook pro which i got exchanged for a week 13 but i had to keep the cord...
i know, this has nothing to do with the battery issue and no, i'm not paranoid - just now that i started this thread i thought i could add it...
so my questions are:
- shall i request a new battery considering the various mAh indications?
- shall i request a new power cord? or does mine look normal?
why i ask is because i don't want to request something when there is no need for a replacement.
thank you all!

• An extensive look at the Zen Vision:M for those considring buying one (plus my firmware wishli

<SPAN> Well first, I want to say that this is the 0th mp3 player that I have owned. This is definitely the best and most powerful player I have ever owned. With that said, its not perfect either, hence the purpose of this review. As I did on this board with the Zen Micro, I write this review in hopes that Creative will listen. Hopefully, creative will read this and take it to heart.
SOUND QUALITY:
<SPAN> This is what any music device should be about right? Nothing else matters if the sound quality stinks. I used to own Creative?s Zen Micro. The sound on it was great but the bass was lacking. The best sounding mp3 player I?ve ever owned was Iri'ver?s old H20. With its customizable SRS settings, it still stands out against all others I have encountered. If that Iri'ver was the best, I am happy to say that this little device is a very close second. Creative included a bass boost function, and paired with the customizable EQ settings, the sound is amazing. It knocks the micro out of the ballpark.
MENU NAVIGATION:
<SPAN> The menu on this thing is very familiar to that of other Zen players, including the micro. That?s not a bad thing since the navigation system is the most popular among most mp3 players of this class. I used to own Phillip?s HDD 6330, and that player and the 5th generation iPod have something that the Vision:m lacks. I have all of my music specifically organized by genre. I would like to go into the genre folder, and select a song by title, not by artist, then title. On the 5G iPod, and the HDD6330, the first menu option when going into the genre folder in ?All Titles?. So, all you had to do was select genre / all titles and you had every song in your library from that genre. This player lacks that ability.
<SPAN> I will give praise to Creative for its side alphabetical bar. This has made scrolling my library very much easier. This is a very innovati've feature to use. I also give them props for making the main menu customizable. If Creative will add that one thing, its menu system would be unmatched and close to perfection!!!
FEATURES:
<SPAN> Creative has built a host of features in this thing as they do with a lot of their players. The FM radio is good and the voice recorder is good. Now lets get to the good stuff. The Vision:m actually lets you choose your own background. Not only that, but for the picture you do decide to use, its lets you edit its brightness and color tone. This feature definitely comes in handy. I selected a nice picture of me and my son at the town fair, and it was way to bright. The letters on the screen were hard to read no matter what theme I used. Upon selecting a picture to use as background, the player gives you the option to raise or lower its brightness and color tone. I lowered the brightness and changed the tone and now, the background looks great. Creative should have gone that extra mile and gave the player the ability randomly select a new background every day.
<SPAN> Also, I am liking the content password feature that gives you the ability to hide video and picture folders. Basically, if I wanted to, I can create a folder on my Vision:m, put some porn in it (come on, that?s what this is really about), and on the player, set it the folder to ?protected?. On the players System settings, set the option to hide all protected folders to ?hide? and you are all set. To unhide the folders, go back into System Settings and select it. Upon selecting it, you will be prompted for the password. I also like the fact the Creative include a calendar and organizer into the player. It?s nice however unnecessary it may be.
USER INTERFACE:
<SPAN> I have got to give creative its pro
ps.
Those who criticize Creative for copying iPod really have no idea what Creative has done! Its ergonomic design is the best I have seen since the iPod!!! It is designed for one handed thumb use. One of the problems with the micro and other players like it is the fact that its touch pad was too sensiti've and by simply holding the player, it was a good chance you would accidentally access a function, when the hold switch wasn?t on. The only thing that?s touch sensiti've here is the scroll pad. Creative brilliantly included two side buttons along the thumb pad, which you can easily press with your thumb. This is not copy-catting. This is innovation! Add to that, the other outside buttons that surround the thumb pad are NOT touch sensiti've. They are clickable buttons. The chances of accidental button pressing are greatly minimized. My only problem with the setup is that Creative foolishly assigned the scroll pad buttons to song skip access. That?s fine and dandy when you are in the ?Now playing screen?, but when navigating the menu, it'ss a slight discomfort. The side buttons would be extremely useful when navigating the menu system. Especially with one handed use.
VIDEO and PICTURES
<SPAN> Well, the one feature that sets this player apart is its ability to play video right? Well, when I first got my player and through my content on it, I threw some videos (less porn) that were on my computer on the player. They played flawlessly with no video conversion necessary. They included a downloaded episode of ?BattleStar Galactica?, ?Boston Legal?, and ?Prison Break?. They all played beautifully. I don?t know if the player?s CPU can handle it, but I would love the ability to fast forward or scan through long video files a lot faster. Selecting ?Seek To? from the menu helps a lot, but its not fast enough. Also, I would like for Creative to add quicktime or .mov<SPAN> support if its possible (legally). My digital camera and cell phone records video clips in .mov format. I also have lots of trailers on my computer in quicktime format. It would be nice if I can simply drop some of the clips on the player without converting them first.
<SPAN> The Pictures show great on this player. You can't scroll through them as quickly and as crisp as with the iPod but there is a reason for that. The ipod scales down and convert photos so they can be shown on the screen. The Creative doesn?t do that. Simply drop the picture on the device and it will be displayed. The benefit to this method is that the player allows you to zoom in on the photos which is a very nice feature and an adequate trade
In. It makes transferring pictures faster also.<SPAN> Add to that, you can switch the folder view and thumbnail picture view to vertical scroll. Speaking of which, where is the USB OTG? This would be a big plus if you had it.
<SPAN> The AV out works great also. I don?t have a/v cables that connect to the player on hand but I did have red and black audio cables that would connect. I stuck the jack in about half way and connected the red on to the video in port on the TV and it worked. I still highly recommend purchasing the a/V cables for it.
PLAYER DESIGN:
<SPAN> What can I say. So, it looks like the iPod. But should we really fault Creative for that? iRi'ver?s H300 was the first mp3 player to have support for photo?s. When the iPod photo debuted, you could very well have accused Apple of ?copying? iRi'ver. The only way this player copies the iPod is the fact the screen is the same size and dimension. Oh, and the controls are on the bottom. Kind of like the same way Apple ?copied? iRi'ver. I emphasize the word copy because both of theses players were in development at the same time. Creative released their player a short time after Apple. There is no way Creative could have thrown a player this functional and feature heavy together so quickly. The fact that the players look similar is mere coincidence. Other than that, like the 5G ipod, it'ss a beauty. The fact that the buttons glow gives it an extra coolness. I give creative props for its new interface which rocks and what I like to call? The Thumb Click?<SPAN> Oh, and Creative, the next time you release a player, you can keep the so called ?sync adapter?. I don?t like it one bit. Find a way to build the outlets into the player without compromising is size!!! Its just one more thing I have to keep up with.
SOFTWARE / COMPUTER INTERFACE:
The last time I dealt with Creative?s software is when I had the Micro. It was clunky but functional. I like what they have done this time around. Still the familiar software but more organized. My only problem is when syncing. I edited an id3 tag on my computer and synced the library again. The software failed to sync the song, listing it as an error. The only way to correct this was to delete the song from the player and re-sync it.
ZEN CAST ORGANIZER NOTE:
<SPAN> Creative, I say this with the best intentions not to be taken the wrong way. You guys need to scrap the current beta software and go back to the drawing board. Do you guys even realize the potential you have with ZCO? First off, when using the sync organizer, it works, but it can't handle video. It is ridiculously slow when handling video. The syncing software in explorer works a lot better. And then ZCO doesn?t show all of the podcasts available on ZenCast. It brings up internet explorer. What you guys need to do, is go back to the drawing board and design software that expertly organizes my entire media library with extreme simplicity. Have a section for music, pictures, video, and zen/pod casts. The Music section can have the option of connecting to an online music store, the video section can have the option of connecting to an online video store, and the ZenCast, to to the Zencast website, where you can easily subscribe to any zencast<SPAN> without bringing up the browser.
<SPAN> Lets say you guys strike a deal with?.say?..NBC. and NBC makes its episodes of ?Book of Daniel? available on the Zen video store. I should be able to purchase a season pass, and every time I sync my player, it will automatically download and/or sync the latest episode.<SPAN> The possibilities are endless!!!
BUGS:
I have only noticed two bugs with this player. It seems that the Vision:m has an obsessi've compulsi've need to display album art for every song played. Even songs with no album art associated with them. Since my library is organized by genre and not by album, the player simply picks another album art from the folder ad displays that art for a song with no album art. Creative please fix this because its annoying. Also, one almost unnoticeable bug. The ?song time? count at the bottom of the progress indicator in the ?Now Playing? screen seems to have a hard time counting seconds in some songs. Its too slow and eventually catches up. Then counts regularly, and speeds p again. At first I thought the problem was with VBR mp3?s but it does it with regular 28 kbit rates.
Overall Creative has built a very good player and is currently the best out there. I was a fan of the micro and am now A HUGE fan of this one. This player has yet to crash since I have had it, considering that the micro crashed 3 times by this point of my having one. In fact, this looks to be the most stable player I?ve owned as well. I want to personally thank the Creative development for making a player so superior to anything else out there and at such a competiti've price. I will stomp for your company and brand every chance I get. But You have to meet me half way. Outside the Geek world, your brand is barely recognized. You need to set up a huge base of operations in the US and heavily promote your brand. Not just in magazines and one or two city billboards, but on constant TV commercials, get some music artists on TV promoting your player. Come on guys, really show Apple that you are serious about taking them on. I realize that this costs money to do, but you have to spend money to make money right?
Below is my Firmware Wish List I prioritized them starting with the most important thing. Please try to get to some of these issues.
<SPAN>-<SPAN> fix album art bug
<SPAN>-<SPAN> make a main menu option for Zen cast. This shouldn?t be in the video folder.
<SPAN>-<SPAN> Add the ability to browse by title in the Genre folder.
<SPAN>-<SPAN> Add support for .mov format to video please.
<SPAN>-<SPAN> USB On the Go would be a nice addition as well
<SPAN>-<SPAN> Add the ability to randomly select a new background from a pre selected group of photos every time the player is turned on or each day.
<SPAN>-<SPAN> SRS if possible.<SPAN> It sounds wonderful on other players.<SPAN>
<SPAN>-<SPAN> Make side scroll pad buttons to be used for navigating menu system.
<SPAN>-<SPAN> A small game or two wouldn?t hurt, but add more coolness to it.
Thank you for listening

wow, very nice review Makes me want to get a vision for myself.

I would love that feature. I can't stand useing my computer with a single wall paper anymore (I have 500 anime pics that i rotate between every 2 mins ) If you could make the vision rotate background every x minutes or every time the player is turned on, it would be totally amazeningly sweet!!!! (i might have to go out and buy one then :P)
I just hope that creative has better firmware support with the vision than they have had with the touch.
Once again, great review
