Dell Inspiron 560 - operating system corrupted

Hello,
I am not sure what happened but when I go to turn my pc on, it will show the main dell logo with the options to select F2 and F12 but after that, it goes to a black screen with a white cursor at the top left. I have tried booting my pc with other options such as DVD or USB. I think I downloaded the correct file on my usb to try to load the operating system back on but I still don't know how to run it exactly..if that makes any sense. The option to select F8 to set my computer to factory reset is not working. I really don't care if I loose my info, I just want my pc up and running. Any help here?? Thanks!

I assume you got a Windows 7 O/S.
The drivers come with Windows 7, just go to the "Devices and Printers" and add a printer.
"Local" printer.
At the "Install Printer Driver" screen click on the "Windows Update" to dnload printer drivers from Microsoft. (this will take a few minutes).
Select the Laserjet 5 from the "HP" selection.
As far as the adapter goes, most of your local computer stores should be able to supply you with one.

  • Operating system corrupted, wont boot. Any way to get admin rights in cmd prompt?

My operating system has gotten totally corrupted and no longer boots. I get a recovery screen that tells me my registry is corrupted. File: \Windows\system32\config\system, Error code 0xc000014c. I have no recovery media (my computer, a refurb, did not com with any) I want to wipe the hard drive totally clean and do a fresh clean install. I can get to the command prompt through the system recovery by hitting esc at boot up but it wont allow me to reformat the hard drive because of write protections. I tried turning off the write protections at the cmd prompt level but it fails because I cant access it with admin rights. The only way I have found to turn on admin rights for the cmd prompt in online searches is to do it from inside the win8 operating system. Obviously I cannot do that as the OS is too corrupted to be run. Is there any command I can use at the dos prompt that will turn on admin rights? Or better yet just some way to force a total reformat?
    Thanks!

Are you following this? No need for command prompt. Just choose Recovery Manager.

  • Operating System(Windows 7) got corrupted ..!

    Hi all,
Can someone please help me with my laptop issue ???
    My Laptop Details :
Product name         :  HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Operating System :  Windows 7 Home Premium
    RAM                             :  6GB
    Processor                  :  Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU [email protected](2400MHz)
    Purchase                   :  Decemeber, 2010.
    My Laptop problem :
My HP-laptop got infected with "virus" ( it says like found 38 virus).
And because of this virus attack , I was NOT able to open any application , for example say if i try to open "notepad" - then throws a message like " unable to open notepad application, though infected with virus".
So with this , i can confirm that my laptop was NOT allowing me to open anything because infected with virus.
Now i have 2 options to go further :
    1) Remove virus , using antivirus removal software ( This i don't have , so NOT attempting to use)
    2) Recover thru recovery option.
When i purchased this laptop , the laptop contains recovery partition within the laptop , so it's a built-in option.
Though i was NOT interested to keep that recovery partition in my laptop, I just burned recovery manager into 7 DVDs, and then deleted the partition.
With this my laptop contains drives like :
C: drive --> this contains OS related stuff
D: drive --> this contains my general stuff like songs , movies , etc
System drive --> 199MB ( not sure what thid contains )
Now coming to original problem/issue -
I have planned to use recovery DVDs , to recover to factory state.
Started with 1st DVD , it went upto 18% and then asked me to insert 2nd DVD.. and this went upto 30%.. now again asked me to insert 3rd DVD.
With 3rd DVD.. it went upto 40% , and then stopped responding. Nearly I've waited for about 3 hrs.. but NO use.. it's still hanged at 40% only.
So with 3rd DVD , it got hanged or stopped.
My doubt - not sure whether my 3rd DVD got corrupted or not , but i don't think so.. because 3rd DVD worked for atleast 10%..
Finally , I was struck here...
Not sure what's my next step
Please help me what I have to do now, like  what steps to take... etc
    How to recover?
    Thanks
    Kiran

    Hi,
Lets start with your providing the complete product name or product number.
HP has produced and brought to market perhaps more than 10,000 models of notebooks and desktop PCs over the years. It is difficult to help you if we don't know which one you own and which operating system is installed.
Method #1: If the notebook will boot into Windows you can retrieve your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. You can also read the Service Tag (if present) attached to the bottom of your notebook\netbook.
    Method #2:
Remove the battery and look in the compartment where the battery was installed. You should see a printed part number and a product name. Please post one or both of them (with all alphanumeric characters here). If you live outside of North America, it helps us if you post the country of purchase.
Were you using an antivirus product (free or paid) when this issue happened?
What was the brand and product name of the Antivirus product?
    Best regards,
    erico

I updated iTunes on my Dell Inspiron lap top and it corrupted my iTunes. I uninstalled all of the newly installed files.  I also uninstalled iTunes.  Now whenever I try to install iTunes, I get a message that says, "An Apple Application support is required to run iTunes on this computer. Tried it 2 times and no luck.  Any advice for me?
    Maureen

I get a message that says, "An Apple Application support is required to run iTunes on this computer. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

If you purchased the Apple USB SuperDrive, it will only work with select Apple devices. It won't work, for example, on my Late 2011 model that has a SuperDrive built-in, but it will work with an Air, Retina model, new 'drive-less' iMacs, etc.
As far as I know, though, you can only hack the drive to work with some other Apple devices, but not with Windows PCs. Which is a shame as other, less expensive DVD/CD devices will work with just about any machine.
    Sorry,

  • Do I have a corrupted Operating System?

I've been having a myriad of issues (listed below) on my 2010 MacBook Pro. Here's what we've done Hardware-related to date:
    1) Replaced Logic Board
    2) Ran full battery of tests including RAM tests (which all check out fine)
    3) Replaced Hard Disk
Computer is still acting up. Here are some random issues:
    1) Spinning beach ball, sometimes for 15-20 minutes for no reason when opening a light application like Mail or Safari
    2) Computer unresponsive for no apparent reason at times
    3) Login screen freezes for 5-10 minutes every once in a while - no mouse/keyboard actions work. Just completely frozen.
    4) Can't change certain print settings when printing a document (completely strange)
Do you guys think this is a case of a corrupted Operating System requiring a fresh, clean install of OS X 10.6.6???
Will that fix these issues? I have no idea what else it could be - that would be the last step
We haven't replaced the Memory, even though I think that could be the culprit...

That should usually be your first step. Install a factory fresh OS and use Carbon Copy Cloner (or Disk Utility) to make a clone. Then, if you have some application like anti-virus that is causing all these problems, you can more easily find it.

Two days ago, I loaded Light Room 6. Today I went back to Light Room 5. LR 6 corrupted an entire folder of images, and caused errors on my Raid 5 causing win 7 to run "Chk Dsk" and fix the errors to the operating system. LR 5 has not shut down for the last 5 hours. LR 6 has a serious bug. Anyone else experiencing this problem. Yesterday I was on tech support, waiting for 3 hours, finally they picked up and informed me there department was closing and someone else would call me on Monday. So, I'm working today and all day Sunday to make up for the down time using LR 6.
I don't know if the bug exists in the program or the "Creative Cloud.
Question: Does anyone know why if I bought Light Room 6 [NOT Light Room CC with the monthly rental], I have to enter my serial number if I want to use it?

Entering the serial number is probably part of the registration process.
Just out of curiosity, what were you doing on LR6 when the folder of images became corrupted?

  • TS1702 I am updating my IPAD to version 5.1 and the update has stopped before completion. What is the procedure. If I stop the update or restart the IPAD will the update be corrupted and also the IPAD operating system.

I am updating a new IPAD to the latest version from ITUNES. The update is not complete and has stopped. What  is the procedure to restart? If I close ITUNES i get a message that the IPAD is updating. Will closing the application cause the update to be corrupted and thus the operating system? Will the same occur if I power the IPAD down or disconnect it vis the USB port?

You may also want to go to:
    ~/Library/iTunes/
This is done by  going to the "Go" in the Finder and select Go To Folder. Copy and paste:
    ~/Library/iTunes/
In to Go To Folder selection. Look for a folder called iPad Software Updates. Delete anything in that folder and re download the upadate.

    Look under "Older versions".
I guess it's not on your packaging because the software was sold before Vista existed.

  • No operating system installed or corrupted partition

I have a MacBook Pro and wanted to setup Boot Camp 2.0 so that I could run windows in order to install programs neccessary to manage my Blackberry.
I partitioned the XP as 10Gb and formatted FAT 32. The XP Home CD I used was one originally for my Gateway laptop. Had to back up everything on an external HD and install Mac OS x 10.5.1 (erase and install) since files could not be moved if I had all my info on the computer. Everything went well off the clean install until I had to install boot camp drivers for windows. I could not install updated features because it was SP1.
So I found another Gateway XP Home CD this time it was SP2 (used for my mom's desktop). First, deleted the windows partition by using boot camp assistant. And tried the process over again, this time with the SP2 cd. Partition kept the same at 10Gb, but upon restarting the screen went black and said "No operating system installed or partition corrupted, press 'R' to perform system recovery". Tried 'R' but nothing happened, seemed frozen. The SP1 cd is able to get some response upon a restart, but that is not the cd I want the computer to read and set up again. Sorry for the drawn out explanation, but I don't know where to go from here...

Sweet! I appreciate your help. Boot camp confuses me because I always had the thought that if you already had a win xp cd then you could just boot that up on your mac computer. Did not realize that if it is registered or tied to another computer that that would limit it, and force you to buy a whole new Win operating system.
I am just worried now that my partition/disk is messed up now after all those clean installs and unsuccessful boot camp installs and removals. I went into Disk Utility and ran a "repair disk" on my Mac HD. It came back with 9 warnings regarding SUID files that have either been modified or simply cannot be repaired. Will yet another "erase and install" from the Mac OS X Leopard cd fix all these or no? Is that the best way to go about a fix? Just want to make sure I have done no permanent damage so I can restore all my data off my external HD and possibly try boot camp againt, correctly, in the future.

  • I have a mac pro 2007 model. It appears I have a corrupted sector on my the hadrive tha has my operating system. If I use the install disk that came with is (Tiger) can I still get my lion back.

I have mac pro 2007 model given to me, I updated it to lion about six months ago, and I do not have a time machine.
Lion stopped loading before I get to the login screen,
I tried all the tips, doing a option/shift/v. I noticed several fsk_dsk errors that it could not fix on my boot drive.
Restore would not work either. The only physical copy I have is the install disk that came with the mac. I think it is Tiger.
If I put this operating system on will I be abel to upgrade it to lion, and if so will I have to pay again?

The Lion Recovery Partition has its own index. Your Macintosh HD partition is the one with the troubles.
If Disk Utility cannot fix it, you may need to apply different Utilities, such as Disk Warrior.
Some readers suggest that the best disk repair is to erase the drive and restore it from your Backups.
This might be a good time to consider getting a new drive to have on hand. This would allow you flexibility in copying, fixing, and (if needed) replacing the drive with the problems.

  • Corrupted operating System.

My HP Split 13 x2 will not turn on. The screen says it is scanning and repairing drive (C: 1 % complete. The screen does not move from this spot.  What do I need to do to fix this 1 year old computer?

    Hi there @Colorocks
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you are haing trouble starting up your notebook, as it seems to be stuck trying to scan or repair your hard drive. I am happy to help you with this.
The unforunate thing is that it is possible that the hard drive has failed. If I were you I would attempt to recover or backup as much data from the drive as you can before doing anything else, just in hopes of avoiding data loss.
This page shows some options you can try.
How to Recover Data from the Hard Drive of a Dead Laptop -eHow.com
Also, please post the full product number and verify the operating system in use on your notebook. See the following documents if you need help in finding those.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
With that I can find the correct support information for your device as well as any drivers.
Obviously as you try to recover data from your drive, you will find out if the drive is the problem or if it is something else, but the main thing at first is to try to protect your data. Once it is backed up, then there are several things you can try.
Computer does not start (Windows 8)
Also you assuming the drive is not faulty, and assuming you have previously backed it up, you could try a system recovery.

From my personal experience, I wouldn't go for an Integrated card. This is one of the most important components for Photoshop, so invest in a decent graphics card (ATI or NVidia). It doesn't have to be a really exepensive one - I have been using ATI Radeon with 256MB of RAM on my Dell Studio for almost two years and it still rocks! (even when I work with 3D in Ps CS5 Extended).
I would also invest in more RAM (this can be added easily - I bought extra 4GB as my Studio came with 3GB).
I wouldn't worry about the processor - I'm on Intel Core 2 Duo - and it works very very well, it's very quick which is very important as I'm training Photoshop.
    I hope this helps.
