Dell Inspiron 7537 - Resume from sleep causes various dmesg errors

Hi,
I'm getting various acpi and intel video driver errors upon resume from sleep. The system does come up and I haven't found any functional problems that this is causing. I think the acpi errors may just be causing some devices to drain more power than is necessary. I have tried various live CD's from Ubuntu, Sabayon, and Fedora and they all have these same symptoms. Can anyone help with this, particularly anyone with the same laptop model who may have fixed these issues?
Thanks,
D

I also bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 and I had the same problem as OP, but on Fedora 21 64-bit with Gnome 3.14. I haven't tried any other distros or DEs. However, both Arch and Fedora run systemd, so I think my solution work the same on both systems. I fixed it by doing the following steps:
1. Create a script that reloads the kernel module hid_multitouch.
$ sudo mkdir /opt/touchscreen-fix
$ cd /opt/touchscreen-fix
$ echo '#!/bin/sh
/sbin/rmmod hid_multitouch && /sbin/modprobe hid_multitouch' | sudo tee resume.sh
$ sudo chmod +x resume.sh
Executing this script after a resume will make the touchscreen work again. However, it will of course not run automatically after a resume.
2. Schedule the script to run after resume.
Create the systemd service file:
$ echo '[Unit]
Description=Fix touchscreen after resume
After=suspend.target
[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStart=/opt/touchscreen-fix/resume.sh
[Install]
WantedBy=suspend.target' | sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/touchscreen-fix.service
Enable it:
$ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
$ sudo systemctl enable touchscreen-fix
Done! And that's all! I'm not sure if you also might need to restart the computer for it to work.
To accomplish this I used the following resources:

  • Resume from sleep causes total Interent connectivity loss

    This just started happening about a week ago. I used to be able to close the lid on my iBook, open it later and resume working online normally. Now when I open the lid or resume from sleep mode, the airport shows that it is connected, but I have no Internet access (server not found messages). I've tried turning the Airport off and on, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. I have to totally restart the iBook to regain any Internet connectivity. Any ideas if this is due to a recent update? Anyone else having this problem? The most recent update I remember install was one for MS Office 2004, but it's not just affecting Entourage, no Interent apps will connect after sleeping.

    Hi Kib,
    I've had the same exact problem intermittently for the entire time i've owned my ibook (1 year). The problem was intermittent enough that I never took it too seriously. But, just this morning it would appear my internet connection is permanently gone. No amount of restarting or renewing the DHCP will work. And, as in your case, airport indicates that it is "connected". Seems like a degenerative condition. I'm going to call apple and get some help. I just got apple care and I'm going to take full advantage of it, especially after all the trouble i had with my ibook display.

  • Resume from suspend causes nouveau/X error

    Hi, I am new to the forums so excuse me if I commit any mistake.
    I have updated all my packages last week with a pacman -Syu after about a month without booting arch. Now, everytime I do the suspend/resume cycle I get a blank screen (black) followed by a white noisy screen (like old TVs static).
    As I am still able to move the mouse on this blank screen I tried to move o tty2 and I was able to do it. However, as I tried to type my login info, I got this error message infinitely popping on my console:

    Ended up removing the nouveau drivers and installing the nvidia proprietary drivers.
    I would really like to keep using nouveau, so if anyone has any update regarding this issue it would be of great help! If I notice that nouveau is stable again, I will post an update on this thread.

  • T440S OSD Brightness control failure after resume from Sleep

    Hi,
    I have owned a T440S since late 2013.
    Relevant Details:
    T440S
    Model : 20AQCTO1WW
    OS : Windows 7 professional (original installation by Lenovo)
    Latest Drivers installed as of June 2014 - including HotKey and Power Management
    HotKey ver : 8.30
    Power Managment : 6.65.1
    Since receiving this laptop, OSD birightness control has always failed to work, i.e. does not appear on the screen
    when using the Fn+F5/F6 key combination nor does it control actual screen brightness AFTER FIRST resuming from sleep
    mode.
    Sequence of steps that demonstrates the above symptom:
    1. OSD brightness works fine after reboot
    2. Putting the machine to sleep (I do not use hibernate) for a duration longer than a few minutes
    3. Open lid  the first time, hit Fn to resume machine
    4. Pressing Fn+F5/F6 key combo does not display the brightness slider nor does it control brightness
    5. Closing the lid and opening it again, causes OSD brightness slider to flash brifely and is now fully functional
        using Fn+F5/F6 keys
    Your tech department should easily be able to re-create this issue on any stock T440S/Win7pro machine, as
    I have seen others comment about this very issue across other T440/OS variants.
    This very same behavior has been there since the beginning.
    When is Lenovo going to FINALLY FIX IT ONCE AND FOR ALL?
    Thx,
    --Alon

  • Resume From Sleep Login UI Problem

    I'll keep this short and sharp.
    Previously, when I would resume my mac from sleep, it would make the screen look similar to the normal login screen. With things spread out and nicly formatted. With the menu bar showing the essentials like network, time, and battery in the upper left.
    Now, when I resume from sleep a small window appears telling me I need to enter my password to "unlock the screen".
    What would cause this? Any applications that I might have installed without being aware?
    I have restarted 2/3 times, and I will continue to do so for a short while more, in the hope that it can help me.
    Oh. This is after resuming from sleep only. When I get to the normal login screen after turning it on, it's fine, and just as normal.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi buddy,
    Its really hard to say something about this I can only say that I cant notice this problem on my Windows installation.
    By the way: Do you use the Windows version from Toshiba or your own Windows installation?
    Theoretically it could be a problem of your Windows installation or HDD itself Are you able to test another HDD or Windows installation that you can make sure its not a software problem?

    I've got a T61p (Type: 6457) with preinstalled Vista, later upgraded with SP1. Everything worked like a charm, untill a week or so, when the BSOD appeared when either resuming from sleep or hibernation.
    I've checked the minidump, and it seems as the classpnp.sys is causing the trouble, however, I've yet not found a good solution to fix the problem (I'm close to doing a restore to factory install, but would like to avoid if possible

    There's an issue with your GPU, video driver or both...try running this for a while:
    http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm
    If there's an underlying problem, this test will reveal it. And when I say "a while" I mean for an hour or more...
    Please be advised that if your GPU is on its way out (I've had them fail on T60p due to VRAM corruption) this test might just finish it and push it over the edge. Proceed at your own risk.
    Good luck.

  • CD Drive On Resume From Sleep

    So i am new to macs as this is my first one. I am very pleased with my macbook, it runs at a normal temperature, and no discoloration so far. But i did notice that when I resume from sleep mode that my CD drive makes a weird sound. It kind of sounds like when you first put a cd into an old cd player and everything adjust? Is this normal? Its not really annoying. But it scares me that something might be broken.
    Thanks,
    David
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Yes it's normal and yes it can be a little annoying. Basically what is happening is that when you come out of sleep your CD/DVD drive gets powered back up again which causes it to do it's usual checks which includes making the noises.

  • X220 very slow reconnecting to WiFi when resuming from sleep

    So my X220 with the Intel 6205 card is having issues reconnecting to WiFi when resuming from sleep or hibernation. It takes about a minute for it to do so, though occasionally it will reconnect right away. Maybe 1 out of 20. When doing a cold boot or restart, it connects immediately upon the desktop showing up.
    This was not always the case, in fact when I first got my X220 in June, I have not had this issue.... In fact, I don't know when it started happening, but it was maybe a couple months ago. I just thought it was my old router going bad. Well I got a new router, and it still happens. I have the latest Intel WiFi drivers from Lenovo, and I even tried downgrading to the previous driver from Intel's site. Still the same problem. I tried setting a default profile in access connections, and that does not help. In fact, it behaves the same way if I totally uninstall access connections as well. In fact I tried this on three different brand routers, and I can reproduce it on all of them (Asus, Netgear & TP-Link) so I think this is not a router issue. Other devices in the house reconnect right away with no issues (iPhone 4, PS3, Mac desktop, Dell laptop).
    I currently have BIOS 1.24, but this was happening with 1.21 and 1.23 as well. My X220 originally came with 1.16, and I haven't updated it until 1.21. Unfortunately I don't remember that far back, if the problem started occuring then.
    There was a brief discussion about this in another thread, but it went nowhere so perhaps this will get more attention. At least one other user reported the same issue.
    Here's a clip of exactly what happens. When i press the button or open the lid from sleep, the windows wifi icon will start spinning for a few seconds, then turn into an X. then only about a minute later, does it quickly connect to the wifi and I have full signal. Manually clicking on the icon and selecting the access point does not speed up the process. It will only connect when it wants to, about a minute after resuming from sleep/hibernation.

    Normally when a laptop running windows tries to connect to a network, it may also seek to identify certain components on the network, for example, asking the router "Who are you?". In your case, maybe the config are corrupted because the network address entries are messed up. Queries send out to the network come back with no replies, and the computer waited for the default time till timeout and it gives up.

  • Touchpad and trackpoint problems, especially when resuming from sleep

    I am having persistent problems with the touchpad and trackpoint on my L530.  I prefer to use the trackpoint usually, and found that the touchpad was super-sensitive and caused the cursor to jump around during normal (touch) typing so I disabled the touchpad.  Next time the thinkpad resumed from sleep mode, the mouse was frozen.  Nothing would reactivate it.  I had to switch user, which temporarily fixed it, and then reactivate the touchpad.
    If I try and change trackpad settings at any time other than directly after a reboot, the settings are greyed-out and I can't touch them. Right now, both trackpad and trackpoint are completely dead again, but I've plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to be working, so I've given up fiddling with it.  This will be a pain when I'm moving around with the laptop though!
    The OS is Windows 7.  Yesterday I went looking for the most recent driver, uninstalled the existing one (as per guidance) and installed the new driver.  No luck.
    I've heard this is a common problem and apparently installing a generic driver works, but I'm not completely sure what to use.  Anyone know?
    Oh, and I'm not sure if this is related, but quite often when I resume from sleep mode the keyboard is also dead.  However, if I switch user it comes back to life.  So annoying but not the end of the world.

  • Access Violation in aapltp.sys when resuming from sleep.

    Hello,
    *I have diagnosed an issue in the aapltp.sys (touch pad) driver included with the MacOS 10.6.2 DVD. This issue causes a illegal access to be performed by this driver when the computer resumes from sleep (I have never reproduced it when resuming from hibernate or during normal operation). This issue occurs about once in every 10 resume operations, with both Windows 7 and Windows Vista. I have not experimented other versions of the OS.*
    *The version of this driver included with 10.5.x DVD does not have this issue - this is a new regression.*
    *In summary, KeyMagic (another apple driver) running on a system thread calls the OS for a dispatch (FxDevice::Dispatch). This ends up being routed to aapltp. While executing, aapltp dereferences a memory position offseted from a register that contains NULL. This causes an Access Violation which escalates into a BugCheck.*
    *AFAIK Apple does not distribute driver symbols so I was unable to dig into the cause for the fault in this driver. I am appending some additional crashdump information that might be useful. If you require additional information, let me know. I can either provide you with the full crashdump of perform further analysis if you make the symbols available.*

  • Airport Card turned off when resuming from sleep - New since 10.6.6

    I use safe sleep regularly, as I use my laptop at both work and home. Ever since the update to 10.6.6 though, I have had to manually turn my Airport connection back on after resuming from sleep.
    Previously, although it was unreliable about connecting to a preferred network (an unrelated, but equally frustrating issue*) at least it would remain on. Now I've had to add the icon to my Menu bar just so I don't have to dig into System Preferences every single time I reawaken my laptop.
    Does anyone know why this is happening, and if there is anything I can do to prevent it? I apologize if this has been asked before, but when I searched I was unable to find anything.
    *This issue is unrelated and not the focus of my post, but if you happen to know about it I would absolutely appreciate your input.
    When resuming from sleep, despite being between 5-20 feet from my preferred router I will often receive a dialog asking me to select from a list of SSIDs and enter a password even though that information is already saved. Then, once I complete this information Airport doesn't actually connect and the only way to resolve the issue is to turn Airport off and then back on. After this, it will automatically connect with no problems and remain connected until I put the computer into Sleep mode again.

    Maybe check in your keychain and verify the password saved is correct for your wireless router?
    Do you broadcast the network name?
    Could you describe "unreliable about connecting to a preferred network"?
    Is "use secure virtual memory" checked in the Security preference pane? If so try unchecking that maybe? If it's a hibernation issue sometimes that could cause weirdness.

  • Laptop Crashes when resuming from sleep

    Hi
    I am running a Macbook Pro with retina display. OS X 10.8.3 - Mountain Lion.
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro10,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2,3 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
      L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
    Peripherals: Magic Mouse, Thunderbolt to gigabyte Ethernet connector
    I use this machine while connecting to a network using an Ethernet cable at work. During the day, I leave the machine and it automatically goes to sleep and when I resume from sleep there does not seem to be any problems.
    The problem is when I put the machine off to sleep before going home, and then when I resume the next day; the system crashes.
    I have been searching high and dry for a solution. Some forums talk about the OS' bluetooth management having a bug, others talk about network unable to reconnect and even read something that talks about a wifi issue.
    I cant pin point the root cause of the problem nor do I have a workaround. I have to shutdown every night.
    It seems that this problem has been around for a while and it scares me that Apple has not released a fix for this issue.
    What should I do to resolve this issue?

  • Slow LAN Networking Speeds after Resuming from Sleep

    I use my mac mini as a HTPC running Plex. I have it connected to my Windows media server with 802.11n. Works fine but sometimes after resuming from sleep the network speed drops off to an unacceptable level (from 72 Mb/sec to 5 Mb/sec). Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't help. Switching to G doesn't help. Only restarting the mini restores the connection to full speed.
    None of my Windows clients on the same network have any troubles.
    Thoughts?

    Looks like Plex might be causing the problem. I always have plex running and it appears as though if Plex makes a request for a file on the share before OS X is done re-mounting it after sleep, it kills the whole process.
    Shouldn't the OS be robust enough to handle a situation like this?

  • Black screen on resume from sleep using open source AMD/ATI driver

    When waking from sleep using systemctl suspend or pm-suspend , I am presented with a black screen. I can still open programs, type, etc. but cannot see what I am doing. I usually just wind up rebooting from whatever terminal I had open, but again I can't see what I am typing. Upon reboot, the screen starts back up again. Everything else seems to resume from sleep just fine, it's just the screen that won't turn back on.
    I came from Ubuntu and had this same problem there. However, I only had this problem when using the open source xf86-video driver; when using the proprietary drivers, I was able to suspend/resume just fine. So it seems this problem is specific to the open source drivers.
    If I'm using an external monitor, my external monitor will resume just fine after waking from sleep, but the laptop screen will not.
    Googling around shows this is a common problem with AMD/ATI cards, and after a lot of attempts and failures I'm interested in knowing if anyone else has solved this problem.
    What I've tried so far (without success):
    -various quirks included with pm-utils to turn on dpms after resume
    -xrandr after resumption from sleep
    ==xrandr --output LVDS --off (If used without suspending (so while the screen still works) this seems to crash Gnome the first time around, but Gnome automatically restarts. If used a second time, it completely blanks the screen and requires a reboot)
    ==xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1600x900
    -xset dpms force on or xset dpms force off after resumption from sleep
    -vbetool dpms off and vbetool dpms on results in error message "Real mode call failed"
    -scripts using vbetool or xrandr when resuming from sleep
    -switching between virtual consoles and gnome using alt-ctrl-fn-f1 and alt-ctrl-fn-f2 keys
    My setup:
    -HP Envy dv7
    -UEFI dual-boot with Windows 8
    -AMD Radeon HD 7640G
    -xf86-video-ati 1:7.2.0-1 driver
    -Gnome DE using GDM login manager
    Thank you.
    EDIT: I did try using the proprietary drivers for a time, but found I couldn't adjust my brightness. At first I thought working suspension > adjustable brightness, but I quickly changed my mind after one night of trying to work on an unadjustable maximally bright screen.

    Unfortunately I could not fix the problem so I wiped my system and loaded all new drivers before I found this posting.
    Is there a way to get the old ATI driver that works? The only one available on the ATI and Lenovo website is the latest one with the problem. I agree with you David, Lenovo should have fixed this problem already with ATI.

  • T410 cannot resume from sleep

    I recently purchased a refurbished ThinkPad T410, and installed my own copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit onto the machine. I used the System Update utility to download and install all of the updated drivers, and I have also installed all of the necessary Windows updates.
    When the machine is put into sleep mode (either from the start menu, the keyboard shortcut, or by closing the lid), the power button will pulse and the external sleep indicator will light up. However, when I press the power button to wake the machine up, it seems to get itself stuck in a loop. The HDD will begin to spin, some lights will flash (the overhead LED being one of them), but the screen never turns on, and the machine must be rebooted by holding the power button.
    My machine does not have the fingerprint reader, which seems to be the cause of this problem on other T-series models.
    I have also installed the most recent driver for the Intel Management Engine Interface, another proposed fix for this issue.

    Hi Acuppa,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
    As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not resuming from sleep on your ThinkPad T410.
    Have you checked with uninstalling and reinstalling Graphic adapter, Lenovo power manager and Lenovo power management?
    Suggest you to download the drivers manually from support site, use MTM (Machine Type Model) number to download drivers.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Hemanth Kumar
