Dell laptop media buttons and iTunes?

I have a dell laptop and love iTunes. However, the media buttons on the front only work when iTunes has focus. I have heard of a plug-in that allows it to grab the commands at anytime. Could anyone here direct me to that plug-in?

In iTunes 7.1.x, the volume keys on my laptop double registered whenever iTunes was open and not focused on the program, so the volume would go up/down twice at one push and when pressing mute, it would actually mute then unmute as you released the button. However, the play/pause, stop, ff/rev keys worked fine.

ITunes Disabling Dell Laptop media controls?

When I start iTunes, my zonealarm asks me if I want to allow iTunes to communicate my information to the internet. If I allow it, I can't use the mute function on my Dell 1405's media controls located at the front of the laptop. If I disallow and iTunes starts up unable to communicate with the internet, the controls work fine. I assume this stems from iTunes and not zonealarm but I could be wrong, Is anyone with a dell laptop encountering this and is there a way to prevent it?

iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

Does the OS see the iPad at all? In other words does it show up in either the My Computer or Device Manager?
I've had problems in the past where I had to modify the registry to get my son's iPod to sync with a particular HP laptop.

Media Browser and iTunes Screensaver Unable to See Through Aliases

My iTunes library is on a shared Airport disk. In Tiger I used an alias from ~/Music to the shared library. This worked better than pointing iTunes itself straight at the shared library because the media browser and iTunes screen saver continued to work as expected.
Not so in Leopard. When my iTunes library is an alias the media browser refuses to see it and suggests i launch iTunes 6 or later. Similar for the iTunes screen saver.
Does anyone else experience this, and does anyone know any workarounds? I miss browsing my iTunes libray from iPhoto.

If you have 64 bit Windows and daemon, you have a little work to do.
You need to install the 64 bit Gear drivers that iTunes needs for burning but are not supplied:

(I NEVER use Share to iDVD from within any iMovie versions as the result will be bad to even worse)
Use this and Share as LARGE (Not HD - also degrading result)
Now Close iMovie and Open iDVD and Import movie from Media Browser - This will result in as Good result possibly when movie comes from iMovie'08 or 09 or 11.
If You want even better result then use
• iMovie up to HD6 - or -
• FinalCut any version
So that the material exported over to iDVD is fully interlaced - as DVDs are so and as SD-Video quality is so as Standard. (There are no HD-DVD quality (but academic - very rare and needs special players))

IDVD shuts down when I press media button and click audio movies or photos

My iDVD shuts down immediately when I click the media button and then either photos, movies or audio - why is this and how can I rectify??

Sometimes when an application is not working properly its preference files have become corrupted. It is nothing that you cause, it is just the nature of preference files.
Close iDVD. Go to your Home(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry, iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it. Reopen iDVD ad see if it works.
Post back if this does not help.

Dell laptop media keys don't work with iTunes 7.x

After installing the most recent version of iTunes (7.3), my media buttons on the front of my Dell Precisions M90 no longer work, unless iTunes is the active program. Same thing happened with my other Dell laptop. Anyone have a fix for this?

Is it possible to use the media buttons on my Equim P-200 notebook in itunes when its not the open window?
They work if ive got it open but not if its not. This doesnt really help me much because i could just hit space.

Don't know how to fix this in detail, as I have some "problem" with Media Player Classic, which only work with those buttons, when focus lies on this program.
So, maybe you can make a work-around, if you can change some itune window settings, to be always on top, so that it has focus all the time.
Then, not to disturb you on your desktop, you could resize window and position the small window somewhere it does not bother you.

Media Buttons With iTunes

I have a Saitek Eclipse II keyboard, which has media buttons on it for being used with music. It has buttons to switch to the next and previous song, stop, play, and volume control. All of these work fine when I am in the actual iTunes window, but when I have internet explorer or something else up the hotkeys don't work. I've talked with people who said they have the same issue, but their media buttons work with other music playing programs such as Winamp. Just wondering if anything can be done to get my buttons to work with iTunes. Thanks.

I speculate that your keyboard drivers have to support this function; i.e. you have to ask the keyboard manufacturer to implement that function.

Music in 2 locations, iTunes media music and iTunes music folder???????

I have music in 2 locations, iTunes media music and a iTunes music folder. The media/music folder appears to have more content. What is the difference between these two locations and can one be deleted without losing content?

With iTunes 8 and earlier the "correct" location for music was:
<User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Music\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext>
Since iTunes 9 this has become:
<User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext>
If your library started in the old layout it may have been inadvertently switched to the new one at some point, with a mix of content in both locations.
Check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced that the media folder location is set to <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media (assuming your library is stored in the usual place).
Under File > Library > Organize Library... tick "Rearrange files...", if possible, and "Consolidate files", then click OK. This will drag in copies of any file currently stored outside of the media folder.
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your media then under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn "Keep..." off, Click OK, then go back and turn it on again. This will ensure that everything is set out in the current layout.
Anything now stored outside iTunes Media, e.g. in ..\iTunes\iTunes Music, is now a disconnected copy and can be safely deleted.
You should also backup your library, ideally before you start tidying up just in case something goes wrong and you need to revert.

If you are implying that you've never synced and backed up the device, well that is simply not smart.
User's can backup their iOS devices at any time by connecting to iTunes and selecting the backup option from the Summary tab or by backing up to iCloud.
Most people will regularly backup their devices and transfer iTunes purchases to iTunes on the computer for safekeeping.
Basically, you are stating that the device has not been used as designed and now data has been lost. Sorry, that's just too bad. But at least now you know how to prevent this in the future.

Using Media Monkey and ITunes help

I have used Media Monkey for years to sync, burn, play... (I used to have a Sansa Mp3). I like the interface much better on Media Monkey and my children find it easier to just pull up and play music. We now have 2 ipod in our family and I am trying to get used to Itunes-not a fan yet. I want to make sure that I am not doubling up on my downloads. Can I save everything from my ripped cds to my music folder only. Sounds like Itunes automatically creates a back up folder?? Also, how do I move a song without it losing it's path in Itunes. I downloaded to my desktop so the songs were easy to find, after I added them to Itunes and Media Monkey I moved them to my music folder and Itunes could not locate the songs. So I guess overall I am trying to understand the most efficient avenue to download to Itunes and Media Monkey.

To my disappointment I have just Uninstalled Media Monkey. I was hoping to purchase the full license but the program is still in its development stage. It is full of bugs.
1) The Tech support didn't even try to solve the problems 2) The tagging of files is useless. 3) creating playlists is problematic (it won't let you put the tracks in the order you want)
The best program for ripping is Nero. I have to use itunes for syncing and updating.

External hard drives, media folders and iTunes Library folder

Hello All,
I have an external hard drive with all of my iTunes media files and am wondering if I should also have the iTunes Library folder and related iTunes files on this same drive. Is this the preferred arrangement? It seems that backups would be greatly simplified.
If it is a preferred solution that all these files reside on one drive location, how do I set these files to the external drive?

well, i have a test library on an external USB drive hanging off my TC. it's not a NAS exactly but pretty similar.
i found that a firewire 800 external HD @ 7200 rpm provides superior speed to any networked library which is important (to me) if you e.g. stream HD movies to an TV and don't want to experience a lot of buffering.
