Dell laptop running Vista cannot printap

The Dell laptop, which is running Vista, can "see" the EPSON Stylus C86 connected to the Airport Extreme, but cannot access to print to it. It can access the internet just fine. I have not installed any Airport utilities from the CD. Do I need to?

What version of the Airport Base Station are you using?
The Airport utility software for Windows isn't necessary, but installing Bonjour for Windows can simplify configuration of an Airport printer on the PC. Find Bonjour for Windows at:

  • I have a C6380, The printer works with my laptop running Vista and MacBook but not Windows 7. Why??

I have had my C6380 for quite a while, now.  I have a personal laptop running Vista and have no problems.  I have a MacBook for work that I use with the printer with no problems.  I also have a desktop that was working well for a long time with this printer and for the last number of months (I haven't counted), I have been having a lot of problems.
Either the computer cannot find the driver or the computer delivers a message that the printer is off line (even though it works with the other computers).  I use the C6380 via a home wireless network.
Reinstalling the HP Software helps for a short time, but the problem soon recurs.
I cannot seem to find anything in any of the Trouble shooting guides on HP or MS websites.  HELP!

If it works on one Firefox 3.6.10 installation, it should work on the other - assuming both PC's have exactly the same version of Norton installed, including that Firefox Toolbar extension. Another possibility is that Norton uses a different version of their software on WinXP than they use on Vista.
Tools > Addons > Extensions - does the Norton Toolbar show as being incompatible?
You could try forcing a Norton program update to see if their Firefox extension gets updated.

  • Airport express interference when my other new dell laptop with Vista

    Hi,
My macbook was working great with airport express. Once I bought the new dell laptop with Vista it stopped connecting to airport whenever the Dell is on. Once I switch the Dell off, my macbook immediately connects with airport. The Dell never has any prob trying to connect. I've tried to change the channel but it doesn't help as my Dell is unable to connect. My radio mode is 802.11n ( which is b/g compatible) as I can't use any other mode since my Dell won't pick up other mode. Please help .

My computer is saying it can't find the file 'iTunes64.msi' when I try to update or redownload iTunes how do I fix this? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I am using a dell laptop running windows 7 and have tried changing the file location to run the update in all of my iTunes files as well as when I've tried reinstalling it.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

  • TS1717 Having trouble running iTunes version 11.0.2 on a Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1.  Keep getting an error message "the software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly..." reinst

Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1).  I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly.  Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?  I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired.  Please reinstall iTunes..."  I have done this a number of times to no avail.

I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Unable to print to office jet pro 8600 over wifi from a laptop running vista, basic home edition

Have a new officejet 8600 pro and am able to print via wifi from laptop running windows 7 and hp touchpad running webos, so all is working fine. However, I am unable to print via wifi from a laptop running Vista Home Basic, 32 bit OS. I can see the printer from the laptop, but when trying to connect to it, receive the error message "Unsuccessful Network Installation, the printer was unable to be installed over the network".
Have downloaded drivers from HP, turned off laptop firewall to ensure no blocking and still no luck. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

  • My Dell Inspiron runs Vista, and I cannot change the home pages on my browser

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S running Vista. I updated Firefox to 5.0. I want to change the home page for one of the tabs. I change the tab to what I want, I go to Options - General - Use Current Page, and it seems to register. I then close Firefox and reopen it. When I do this, I get the old home page - not the one that was on the screen when I selected Options-General-UseCurrent Page on that tab.
What do I do in order to have that tab come up with the page I want when I invoke Firefox?

Make sure it says "'''Show My Home Page'''" in the first dropdown menu at the top before you try to change it.

  • Unable to connect 8300 to laptop running Vista, as tethered modem

    Hi
This is my first time so please excuse any naivety. I just taken delivery of my new Blackberry 8300 Curve and after some initial teething troubles all is well except that I cannot get it to work as a tethered modem. My laptop is running Vista Business and I've tried the fixes on 'crackberry' w/out success. I'm in the UK and my network provider is British Telecom and they are less than helpful. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

  • HP Pavilion laptop running Vista sees AirPort Extreme...

    Hello!
My son recently purchased an HP Pavilion running Vista. I have a MacBook Pro at home with an AirPort Extreme that is connected via Comcast cable internet (there's an HP desktop also "on" the network, but it's connected directly to the cable connection & is not running off of AirPort).
We can readily get his HP laptop to the AirPort network, but when he attempts to launch Internet Explorer, that's as far as we get ("Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web Page", when he's trying to go to msn.com...which is the default target). We've tried just about everything we can think of to allow the request for the Internet to go through completely. I'm sure it's something simple that we're missing...but could this be something having to do with the firewall? Could it be the latest version of Vista? Or would it be something that we need to reach out to Comcast to resolve?
Interestingly (or not...I personally know enough about this stuff to be dangerous), my father has an HP laptop as well & had no problem acquiring the Airport nor connecting to the Internet...
    any ideas? thanks a bunch!
    dsz

Hello dsz. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I have a MacBook Pro at home with an AirPort Extreme that is connected via Comcast cable internet (there's an HP desktop also "on" the network, but it's connected directly to the cable connection & is not running off of AirPort).
If your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) is connected directly to the cable modem, how is the HP desktop connected "directly to the cable connection?" Is it connected to one of the AEBSn's LAN ports? ... or are you using an Ethernet switch between the modem and the AEBSn which the desktop is connected to?

  • Dell Laptop w/Vista and AX

I'm helping setting up a AX for a friend, He has a Dell Studio 1737 running Vista SP1 and fully upto date. I've configured the AX and my MacBook and iPhone pick it up perfectly and his laptop refuses to even see the AX consistently (it appears briefly and then disappears in the network configuration window in vista). I've even booted the laptop using a Ubuntu LiveCD and it found the AX and worked flawlessly.
Therefore there is no hardware issues with either the AX or the Dell. Any suggestions as how to get the Dell to connect?

I agree, this seems like a Vista problem. I suggest you post your question in the Airport for Windows forum, where you may find more longsuffering Windows inmates than in this one. Good luck!
    I will, thanks for that
