Dell PC cannot find airport signal

I just installed Time Capsule and my the airport signal is successfully being picked up by my MacBook, G5, as well as my other HP PC which has a linksys PCI card.
For some reason, my Dell PC is not able to find the airport signal when it is seeking available networks.
Perhaps this question should be put to a PC/Dell discussion board (if one exists). Thanks.

Here's a few more things to try...
1. Create a New User Account
- Create a new user account.
-- System Preferences > Accounts
-- Click "+" to add a new account
- Log off, then log back on with the new user account.
- Try connecting with the AirPort after wake up.
2. Run the Disk Utility to repair Disk Permissions.
- Try connecting with the AirPort after wake up.
3. Turn off the Mac OS X Firewall
- System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
- Click the "Stop" button.
- Try connecting with the AirPort after wake up.
4. Move System Configuration Files (last resort)
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
- Go to /Library/Preferences
- Move the SystemConfiguration folder and com.apple.networkConfig.plist file to the desktop.
- Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder & .plist file back to it's original location.)
- Try connecting with the AirPort after wake up.

macbook pro cannot find airport extreme to configure it to join an existing network.

By default, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) will be broadcasting a wireless network with a name like, Apple Network NNNNNN. Be sure that the MBP is connected to this wireless network BEFORE trying to access with the AirPort Utility.
If this still doesn't work, try temporarily connecting the AX directly to the MBP by Ethernet, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility.

I am trying to link my iphone 3 via bluetooth to a plantronics voyager 520. Both items are charged, bluetooth turned on etc. My phone searches but cannot find the signal. Any ideas? Alan

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.

  • Utility cannot find airport extrme, how can I set it up? thanks

trying to setup the airport extreme but utility cannot find the deviceto begin setup , any suggestions be gratly appreciated

Which model AirPort Extreme is it, are you using a Mac to configure it, and if so what version of OS X is it running?
In general, start with a "hard reset" - hold its reset button depressed continuously, five to ten seconds, until its LED flashes rapidly. After it restarts the Extreme will create an open wireless network to which you must connect and subsequently use AirPort Utility to configure it.

  • HT1178 Airport utility cannot find Airport Time Capsule base station

I just purchased the new AirPort Time Capsule 2TB and after trying to set it up with my MAC I realized that the AirPort utility software was old and instead tried setting it up with my ipad that has iOS 6.1.3. However eventhow I remain connected in the internet, I cannot find any base station with the updated AirPort utility. Reseting Time Capsule and modem has not helped. Has anyone else had the same problem and how have you solved it?

Sorry, can you please clarify, and provide a bit more information?
You can "see" the Time Capsule using your iPad, but not using AirPort Utility on your Mac, correct?
If yes, what version of AirPort Utility do you have on your Mac?  If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen and click About AirPort Utility.
Post back with the version number that you see there.

  • Cannot find Airport after attempting to set up Bridged Network

I had a previous post on creating a bridge network (with two base stations - one plugged into a modem "A" and one plugged into my Mac Pro with an ethernet cable "B". After doing the following, the bridge does not work - and more importantly - I cannot find base station "B" with the airport Utility at all.
    I did the following:
Set up base station "A" to "Share a Public IP Address"
Set up base station "A" to "Allow this network to be extended"
Updated settings on "A" (allowed it to reset)
Set base station "B" to Bridge Mode
Set up base station "B" to connect to the wireless network on "A" (with the same password and configuration (WPA2 Personal)
Configured the TCP/IP on "B" to be the same as on "A"
    Updated settings on "B"
I did this initially and it did not work - on "B" there was an error concerning "Network Extended" and it said the airport was having problems extending the network (which is in the next room, I don't know how that is possible). Anyway the bigger problem is after updating "B" again, it is not recognized by the airport utility at all - not by my macbook pro (which was seeing it before with the wireless network) or the Mac Pro that is plugged into it with an ethernet cable (I've double checked that it is one of the "out" ports, not the input for the airport). I have also plugged it into my macbook pro with an ethernet cable and get the same problem. It is just delivering a flashing amber light. I have unplugged it and plugged it in again, reset all of my computers, but nothing I do allows me to connect to Airport "B" to use the utility. Any ideas?

The thing I am not seeing in your posting is that each of these devices has a similar but not identical IP Address.
Are you using DHCP to assign addresses? Which Router is assigning them, what range are you using? If assigning by hand, are they all similar, but not identical? It may help to list them.

  • Itunes cannot find Airport

    Hey All,
We have an Airport in our office that's hooked up to our sound system. This lets us stream music from our laptops to the sound system. The other guys have macs, and they have no problem sending music from Itunes to the Airport. However, I am on a PC, and am unable to join the fun. Itunes does not give me the option to stream music to the Airport, presumably because it cannot find the Airport. I turned off Windows Firewall, so I don't think it's a firewall issue. Do you all have any ideas on why Itunes can't find the Airport?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with a Fritz WLAN Repeater N/G. If the airport express is connect to it, I'm able to configure it with the AirPort Utility but iTunes just shows a connecting dialog and times out after approximately 2min.
Were you able to fix it for you?

  • Windows XP Toshiba laptop cannot find airport express

    Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problems (so i've read) many others have.
My Xp laptop cannot find the base station of airport express, while my macbook has no problems.
I've tried some of the possible solutions mentioned on this forum, but nothing seems to work for me.
    - i can't fill in a correct ip adress in the airport aid program XP (don't know if this is important)
    - and I don't know where i can find the "channel change" option on my xp laptop.
I have tried to change the channel to 1 at my macbook wich resulted in having to reinstall ax cause it also couldn't be found on my mac book after this change
Long story, but i hope someone can help me!
    Kind regards,
    Sonja.

Do you have access to the Airport Admin Utility? It should be Start ->Airport -> Airport Admin Utility.
If you have this, and it should be there is you have loaded the AX software, you will see the AX Base Station in the window. Click on it. You will be asked for a password: the default is "Public" (without the quotation marks). Once you have entered the program, you will see a series of tabs across the top of the page. The Airport Tab will give you access to the information that you need to change (e.g., channel, etc.).
Remember that some Toshiba Laptops have a physical switch that must be turned on in order for wireless to be used. Mine is just underneath the left-hand side at the front of the unit.
If you purchased your AX in Europe, then you can go all the way up to Channel 13 ... Channel 11 appears to be the maximum in North America.

  • PC AirPort Utility cannot find Airport extreme w/ ethernet but has internet

Hello, I have set up the airport extreme to use with a MacBook. I pluged everything in just fine (PC using ethernet) but had to configure the base station with the MacBook as the PC could not find it using the Utility. However the PC is connected to the internet just fine through the base station's ethernet port.
My problem is trying to get the PC (running XP home 2002 sp2) to see the Airport Extreme using the Airport Utility in order to start configuring network printing and eventually AirTunes.
I cannot seem to find this solution anywhere. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Hi I don't know for sure if this is your answer, but with your mac go into setup again. Under wireless tab, then wireless options , make sure 'create a closed network' is unchecked. This may allow the pc to see any Apple base stations. Good luck
Can you please tell me exactly where to find the "create a closed network" box? I am brand new to mac and am still finding my way around. Thank you so much!

  • Airport Utility CANNOT find Airport extreme?  HELP!

I just bought a Airport Extreme (802.11n) and my Airport is just blinking amber... When I launch Airport Utility and scan for a wireless device it comes up with nothing. I cannot get past this step to setting up the Airport Extreme. Any help would be appreciated!
What am i doing wrong? I have a feeling the Airport is not sending a signal out... is it defective? HELP.......

    Welcome to the discussions!
The AirPort Extreme broadcasts a default wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the 'x" can be either a number or letter. Look for this network and log onto it (there is no password required). Then open AirPort Utility to see if it can communicate with the AirPort Extreme.
You may need to restart both the AirPort Extreme and your computer.
An alternate (and probably better) method is to temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to establish a direct connection. You can disconnect the ethernet cable when you have the AirPort Extreme configured.

  • Mac book cannot find airport extreme base station

    Hi
Basicly, the airport utility cannot "discover" the base station. Ever so occasionally it finds it but when i click on continue it says "there was an error connecting to the network"
I have tried restarting the airport extreme several times.

Have you tried doing a hard reset of the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?
Have you tried temporarily connecting to the AEBS via Ethernet to configure the AEBS?

  • PC cannot find Airport Extreme Network

HELP! I'm an amature in computer configurations and know as much to get by. I need to set up my son's desktop PC (win XP) wirelessly for use with the Airport Extreme using a USB Linksys Wireless B Network Adapter. (Also found my iTouch will not work with the Linksys unit) I set up my laptop (win Vista) it works great.
A message on my PC says "You are connected to the access point but the internet cannot be found." Am I missing something? I put in a new WEP key as requested, and used the same configurations as the Linksys and still nothing. Could this be my network adapter? or a setting? I tried finding other networks and those could not be found, not even the neighbors wireless units.
Any help with this is much appreciated.

Make sure you are running in b/g compatible mode.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Airport utility cannot find airport express

Just got new AirPort Extreme connected to comcast. It is hooked up to my new iMac via Ethernet.  Went to airport utility to add on an airport express -- it doesn't find it. When connecting it says "sorry error- try again". The tried connecting it by Ethernet cable to AirPort Extreme. It connected. Then I disconnected hoping it would still be able to be found. No luck. Any suggestions? Thanks. Rudy.

Did you follow the step by step instructions that I provided above?
Tap on Settings on the iPad / iPhone home screen
    Tap on WiFi
Tap on AirPort Express under the heading of Setup a New AirPort Base Station
    Follow the prompts
No where did I say to "open" AirPort Utility.

  • Cannot find airport setup utility

i use windows vista. I keep reading about the setup utility, but all i have in my airport folder (after installing from the cd) is the admin utility. i can't install my base station as it is not recognised by the utility. so basically, nothing works and any advice i read featuring "setup assistant" is useless because i don't seem to have it. any help?

mathieu_veillette, Welcome to the discussion area!
Is this the disc that comes with the new square 802.11b/g/n AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)? If so, "AirPort Utility" is the application you need.
Try temporarily connecting your PC to the AEBS via Ethernet. Use "AirPort Utility" to configure the AEBS to use a channel between 1 and 11.

  • Airport Utility cannot find Airport Extreme

So, I'm setting up my neighbor's Airport Extreme, and the Airport Utility isn't seeing any airport, even though it's plugged in.
Any suggestions? It does not bode well if I'm stopped at the first step of setting up.

Plugged in? Do you mean into a electrical outlet or via ethernet? Does your neighbor have a wireless card and is it turned on? What are you trying to set up? Wired? Wireless? Join a wireless network? I understand if these are a lot of questions and you may not know all these details since it is not your own setup.
