Dell S1555-2817MBU resolution

I purchased this dell last night for in store pick up but havent went to pick it up yet because people are saying the spec's on your website are wrong.
15.6" LED-backlit high-definition plus widescreen display
With TrueLife technology and 1600 x 900 resolution delivers intense detail and clarity.
can someone tell me what the resolution actually is and if it does have a led-backlit high-def display.
thanks

So whats the deal? Is this thing worth the $549.00?  Is it being advertised with incorrect resolution?  I am trying to find a solid  affordable laptop t for my daughters school work.  Any help appreciated.  Thank you, Paul.  I was also considering Sony Vaio, any thoughts?
It's an average entertainment notebook with average specs so it is worth the price, comparatively speaking, but the resolution is indeed incorrect as nobody makes a 1600 x 900 panel in that size anymore as far as I know. That's something you'd occasionally find in the 17-inch and larger notebooks a while back though many of them are currently using the regular 1366 x 768 panels or 1920 x 1080 "FULL HD" LCD panels.

  • Asus U81A-RX05 or dell S1555-018B ????????

I am looking for a laptop for me and me wife.  I cannot decide on the Dell or the Asus.  I will be web surfing, light gaming and some word processing.  I want something to replace my desktop.  Does Best Buy do warranty service for Dell or Asus.  I have read some people think  Asus product support is better than Asus offers a 2 year warranty. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would go with the Asus and Best Buy does offer a service plan on both brands.

  • Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711

I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.
    TIA.

  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400: How to fix resolution issue?

    Hi,
my laptop has a maximum screen resolution of 1366 x 768. I connected an external full hd monitor but I cannot set the resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I use gnome and the monitor setting utility of gnome give me the maximum resolution of 1600 x 900.

Don't worry the native resolution of these cards are far higher than any consumer monitors out there, these GPU can comfortably drive a 30 inch dell with WQXGA resolution. And the resolution you can get on most consumers LCD screen is WUXGA, which could be used even with a laptop 5 years old.
Currently most of the cheaper LCD use a 16:9 rather than the 16:10, these are due to two factors mostly:
    1) Cheaper to produce than 16:10 and this is one of the reason that the LCD have fallen in price, as production can squeeze the most amount of LCD panels out of each production ran, with minimal cutoff wastage.
    2) Most of the widescreen movies are produced in these resolution (16:9), and many people use their LCD for movie watching and games (i do it a lot).
The resolution of the graphics card can be changed, to fit either the 16:10 or 16:9 screens, so what you have to worry which one do you like.
The benefits of 16:9 are it is cheap, and there is plenty of supply from different companies, offer high resolution in small screen area, and good for movies and games.
The benefits of 16:10 is that it got more vertical real estate, so there is less scrolling if you view a document. But they are more expensive, mostly reserved for higher end LCD, hard to find and probably not that much better than a 16:9 if you are getting a TN (most common and very cheap) LCD.
For a cheap LCD stay away from Acer (low quality LCDs) and stay away from Samsung that allow you to rotate or raise the LCD (they break off really easily, i have 3 failures already), i personally like Benq and ASUS one because they offer the most bang for bucks in the 16:9 category, and many of them can be bought with HDMI input... TV, Xbox 360 and PS3....

  • Management studio dialogs not displayed correct in high resolution

I am using a Lenovo Yoga2 with 3200x1800 screen resolution, and some dialog boxes are not displayed correct, like the Select backup file dialog that doesn't display directory and the file list. Is there any fix for this?

I'm having the same issue. Let me try to elaborate a little, providing you with more details.
    Laptop, Dell Precision M3800
Resolution, 3200x1800 (getting more common on new high-end laptops with 15+ inches)
    OS, Windows 8.1
Application, SSMS aka SQL Server Management Studio - version 2014 (earlier version has same issue)
SQL Server Engine irrelevant (tested with 2014 and below - all the same)
I understand you want to see a screenshot, but really, it doesn't make sense as you won't be able to reproduce the error if you are watching on e.g. a FullHD screen. therefore, I've taken a screenshot and resized it to a FullHD size so you get a better feel
of the issue - however, I have to mention text will look a lot more crisp on a 3200x1800 screen (that's kind of why you want a screen with high PPI). That said, it's still way too small to look at.
If you view below image on a 15.4 inch screen with FullHD, you get a feel of how I work with SSMS today.

  • GeForce FX 5200 and Dell 20" 2005FPW - not recognized

    Hello,
I just got a dell monitor figuring that my computer could support it as it's the same as the apple display. It works with my powerbook - recognized by name, but that's an ati card. With the G5, it works in the VGA, but not at the correct resolution. it won't go to 1600 and there is no 1620 X 1050.
When the dvi cable is connected, the self test dissapears, but the monitor just goes to sleep.
I have the 64mb card....maximum res is 1900+. What's the deal? PC users can force the resolution with a utility. Am I stuck buying a new card for my machine??
    thanks for any help.

    Sam,
Don't waste your money. Your GeForce FX 5200 will run your Dell. In fact, I'm writing to you with my Dell 2005FPW monitor, running on my GeForce FX 5200. In this discussion group, I saw a suggestion to zap (reset) the PRAM. It worked for me.
Using the monitor that does work, zap your PRAM. When you zap your PRAM, as the G5 instruction manual says, release the 4 keys after the second chime. Then, you must go in and reselect, thru System Preferences, your Mac HD as the boot-up drive. Your manual says all this. ShutDown.
After I did all that, I reconnected my Dell, started up, & VOILA! Not only that, but when I went into System Preferences->Displays, I saw the Dell's 1680x1050 resolution as the selected resolution, so the GeForce seems to configure itself to anticipated device resolutions.
However, reading other threads in this group in trying to solve my problem, I saw that zapping PRAM doesn't always work. If it doesn't work for you, I suggest you go thru all the threads that seem to apply to your problem, because other considerations (not necessarily solutions) are offered.

  • Issue with HDPI screen of resolution 3200 x 1800

When using Adobe Reader with my Dell XPS 15 (resolution 3200 x 1800), we barely can see the right part of the screen (characters are extremely small). Does anyone have this issue ? Any updates to come from Adobe regarding this?

    Hey Pat,
Thanks for the link, but I did it and still I got the same resolution (very small characters on the right side)... Any other solution?

  • Will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port?

I've not been able to find any information about this on the web and there is definitely some confusion about DisplayPort versions - could some one answer the question will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K IPS Monitor at it's native resolution of 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port? Would that be at 30Hz rather than 60Hz?
    Many thanks, Mark.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The X220 will drive the Dell UP2414Q 4K resolution through Displayport. I have tested this on the Pro2840m LCD which has the same resolution. But only on 30 hz refresh rate.
The X220 with the Series 3 Workstation Dock will drive 2 of the Pro2840m through 2 separate displayport.
The X201 will also drive this 4K resolution, as long as the LCD's 4K can accept Displayport 1.1 standard (on the 1.2 standard, the LCD will stay blank).
    https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14671257827/in/set-72157645860787090
the above image confirms the 4K resolution and my X220 driving that resolution @ 30 hz.
For 60 hz refresh rate on the 4K resolution with integrated Intel GPU, you need Haswell CPU with the HD5000 graphics card, anything below that will only drive the 4K resolution at 30 Hz.

  • Connecting a Dell 24" to a MacBook Pro

I cannot seem to get my MacBook Pro to display correctly when connected to a Dell 24" monitor. The dell runs at 1920 wide. I can set this on the MacBook when I select Gather Monitors, but there is then no menu. When I select Mirror, the Dell's screen drops down to match the MacBook and shows the desktop - which seems logical when I think about it. But, how do I use the Dell at full resolution as a single monitor? I'm connecting via the DVi to the D-sub as I do not have a spare DVi cable.

The correct proceduce to initiate closed-lid mode:
    1.Connect your external monitor.
2.Make you have a USB Keyboard and Mouse connected to your MBP
3.Close the lid and make sure your MBP is in sleep mode(indicator light changing in brightness).
4.Wake your MBP with your USB Keyboard.
After you have done it.......you can open back the lid without affect your display....

  • Mac mini and lcd tv displays

I currently have a g3 ibook and a g4 imac. I've been debating on what i should buy as an upgrade. I've been torn between virtually all macs including the powerbook, ibooks, imac, and the mac mini. I'm moving in a couple of months to a temporary residence where space will be limited. I just purchased a very nice philips 37 inch lcd display with vga inputs and hdmi inputs. After much thought this is what i think i'm going to do.
Sell the G4 imac or give to my parents. Keep the G3 ibook but install the max ram for it (is 512mb the max for this old cpu) and replace the old airport card with a new airport extreme card. Buy an extreme base station. Get a mac mini w/ wireless mouse and keyboard and run it through the philips. Any thoughts?
If i go this route i keep the ibook for portability and the mac mini gives me a more powerful at home cpu. This would keep costs down and not take up as much space. Anyone have their mini hooked up to their lcd tv?

    Hi Martin,
I appreciate your thoughts : I have a G3e key Lime Clamshell 466MHz iBook, I put a 256MB SIMM in to take the iBook up to 384mb and it's now OK for Tiger - I used the Apple Video Out cable to a sony CRT TV via SCART and was able to struggle thru Bridget Jones 2 on DVD , but got a headache! Wife was UNHAPPY. suggestion is avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(maybe sell your iBook at a premium on an online auction website?)
I'm pretty sure that Airport Extreme cards - being a different size and shape from the old ones won't allow you to upgrade that way. I did buy an Airport Extreme enabled Mac Mini 1.25GHz 40GB 1GB RAM for driving my Dell 26" LCD TV/Monitor. It is F A N T A S T I C ! The Dell W2600 came with DVI to DVI cable which plugged straight into the Mini's DVI with no adaptors. The Dell was recognised and a profile was loaded by 10.3
    Most important point :-
I adjusted the Mac Mini screen output resolution to EXACTLY the Dell W2600 Native Resolution of 1280 x 768 (WXGA) (720p HDTV).
with a mismatched native resolution the modern TV's like your Philips 37" will start to resample and might make artefacts (mine did!)
The Mini's 32MB video RAM will not drive much higher screen resolutions than 720p anyway!
Well, after some playing , and loading of helper programs like VLC and MTR , then you'll find that Mac Mini to big LCD is the best ever quality that you've seen your DVD's played. When you download the Apple QT7 H.264 HDTV 720p trailers, you'll have seen the best ever TV quality imaginable!!!!
for extended use as a desktop PC, the Mac Mini would be better firing into a 17-19" LCD,
the 26-42" displays are so big that you have to stand 6+ feet away from them at least !!
I used a BT dongle (I had it lying around) and the Apple BT keybd and mouse work well, in fact, I can type from the other end of the garden - just I can't see what I'm typing!
I bought my 3rd & last Mac Mini tonight for Euro 399 (£264!!!) as the blowout of the Rev.A 1.25GHz 40GB 256RAM 32 VRAM models. My main Mini really uses its 1GB ramstick when encoding MPG4 via the EyeTV200, but the sub £300 price makes the Mini phenomenal, unbeatable and so versatile!
I'm sure you'd be happy with the Rev.B with the BTO options until Rev.C comes out!
what's the native resolution of your Philips LCD? is it video protected path?

  • LCD external monitor

    All:
Just picked up a Dell E196FPb monitor at a yard sale ...
hooked it up to a MacBook but the LCD is just white ...
in mirror mode System Preferences shows the Dell monitor, its resolution & model number ...
the on/off switch on the monitor works but the +/- & menu buttons do nothing ...
tried it on the MacMini but that also just gives a white screen ...
    any thoughts ?
is it DOA or am I missing something ?

Sound like a DOA, unfortunately. Does it have both a VGA and a DVI input? If yes, have you tried both? If the problem was early in the chain, e.g. a problem with the interface, it could be that the rest of the display is working OK.

  • How Multiple Video Cards Work?

Let's say I buy a MacPro with 2 video cards and I name the outputs 1 through 4. I want outputs 3 and 4 to mirror output 2, but I don't want to have to run output 2 at the same resolution as outputs 3 and 4. Is this possible?
From output 1 I want to output 1920x1200 (Dell 24" native resolution)
From output 2 I want to output 1920x1200 (Dell 24" native resolution)
From output 3 I want to output 1024x768 (Projector native resolution)
From output 4 I want to output 2560x1600 (Dell 30" native resolution)
This installation is for a church auditorium where the computer operator will have a left and right computer monitor. There will also be a projector and a confidence monitor.
Any insight into how you can assign video to different monitors will be helpful.
