Dell Ultrasharp 2007WPF Banding Problem?

I have set my sights on getting this model for a widescreen monitor (sorry Apple, 700 bucks is too much). The only thing I have heard about it is this "banding" issue. Do anyone of you know what I am talking about? What exactly is it? Does anyone here have this monitor?
Also a guy is selling them brand new on ebay for 260 dollars (everywhere else $380-410). Could these be all rejects of this banding problem? Or are these just great prices?
Thanks

Tyler,
No, $700 is too little.
I had the 20-inch connected to the exact same Power Mac that you have.
Now, I have the 23-inch.
Take my word for it. Spend the $1000 for the 23-inch. It is worth it.

  • Late 2012 Mac mini i7 to run dual Dell UltraSharp U2412M WITHOUT using the reported HDMI out problem port?

I've been reading about all the problems new Mac Mini users are having with trying to expand their desktop using the HDMI port.  ie: snowy screens, fuzzy text, blackouts etc etc.  My Mini is due to arrive in a couple days and I have two Dell UltraSharp U2412M LED/ISP monitors waiting for it.  I know one of them will work fine with a cord I already have: miniDisplay to Displayport.  Is there any way to daisy chain them if I run into this HDMI problem the others are having?  THANKS.
The monitors have:  Displayport, DVI, VGA connections only.

Mine shipped Oct 30 and I've had it running since Nov 6th. I took the original 4GB RAM out and replaced it with 16GB RAM. I also put a Mercury Elite 240GB SSD into the top bay using a doubler kit from OWC. I had an issue with the Disk Utility not liking the setup as two seperate drives. I ended up using Internet Recovery Disk Utility and did a Repair Disk on both drives and  Disk Utility merged the drives into a Fusion Drive which was then properly recognized by DU. It all seems to work well, although I would have preferred seperate drives and more partitions, Fusion Drives are only allowed 1 additional partition, go figure. The HDMI has a bit of overscan with my 50" Panasonic Viera but the colors are good and the picture and fonts clear and distinct @ 1080p. I frequently use 720p for larger images so I can sit on the couch 15' away and read the text without binoculars.

  • Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

I have this (or a similar) issue and I did notice something interesting. After I boot into Windows via Bootcamp (where I have the U3014 specfic driver installed) and then reboot into MacOS X (Mavericks) the monitor works flawlessly.
I would hazard a guess that this means bootcamp is retaining the driver used in Windows. Kind of the reverse of the TB GBE adapter driver issue.
To explain my issue for anyone else: the monitor flicks on and off as if the connection was poor. Connecting via HDMI. Connection is fine and as stated, everything works fine in Bootcamp.

  • Pixelated gradient banding problem

Hi, I've found that Photoshop CS4 has just developed a problem where gradients become pixelated and produce banding like in the image below.
This was produced by making repeated marks in the same place with a brush at 24% opacity.
I've also noticed banding in gradients.
I've been trying to research it and all of this has only just started to occur today, so I don't imagine it has anything to do with my monitor setup (particularly because of the pixelation), which is a commonly suggested answer.
This document setup was 8-bit, RGB Color mode, 72 dpi.
    Thanks

    Hello.
I just bought a Dell u2410 Ultrasharp verA02 and it's more like UltraBanding.  At least I notice the banding much more on this monitor than on my older 19" samsung. In fact I didn't even notice the banding at all on that monitor. Tomorrow I will go back and check it again to make sure.
So are you all sure that it is not a monitor problem and more of a software / bit problem? Because when I switched my painting to 16 bit in Photoshop (CS3) I had the exact same banding problems (I was painting in RGB mode but in a range of gray values). You can see it really heavy on the grays! It's so unbelievably frustrating! Any help other than what has been offered thus far would be greatly appreciated.

  • Blurry Text On Dell UltraSharp U3014

I recently bought a Dell UltraSharp U3014 (30" Display). I have it connected to my MacBook Pro (2011 non-retina) via Mini DP to DP.  I noticed that text seemed noticably blurry, and not as crisp/sharp as I would have expected them to be.
I've checked the Display Settings and the monitor is in fact using the highest resolution 2460 x 1600).  Changing color profiles has no effect.  Also in General Settings, Font Smoothing is turned on.  I've tried settings that can be made in the terminal with no improved results:
    Medium font smoothing:
<defaults -currentHost read -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2
    Light font smoothing:
defaults -currentHost read -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 1
    Strong font smoothing:
defaults -currentHost read -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 3
This monitor is intended for a Windows computer that I have on the way, which I hope to get better results, but it would be nice to use this monitor for my MacBook when editing on occation.  Any ideas?

Sorry wffurr this is wrong,  the problem is indeed the Mac.   Please see ippy04's answer below.
Untill I stumbled on that solution, i was using a dual link DVI adaptor to force the mac to output RGB mode, now I no longer need that adaptor.
The solution is in his answer.  I will paste it here for convenience:
The problem is the mac is incorrectly trying to use the YCbCr space instead of RGB to drive the monitor (confirm in monitor settings by going to OSM->Menu->Color Settings and checking "Input Color Format".
    This post describes a fix: http://ireckon.net/2013/03/force-rgb-mode-in-mac-os-x-to-fix-the-picture-quality -of-an-external-monitor/comment-page-1#comments
I ran the ruby script and added the folder to /System/Library/Displays/Overrides, and now text is showing up fine, even at 50 sharpness. Color space is also showing "RGB" now.

  • Not recognizing max resolution of 2560x1600- Dell UltraSharp U3011 Monitor

I just got a 30" Dell UltraSharp U3011 monitor. For some reason, my MacBook Pro is not detecting that the maximum resolution should be 2560 x 1600. I'm connecting the monitor to the laptop with a DVI cable and Mini Display Port to DVI adapter which the Apple Store rep said would give me the max resolution and best picture quality.
Any thoughts on what I can do to solve this?

Hello. I can confirm that CrypticGuru is correct. I bought this cable which fixed the problem (same cable he lists, straight from the source):
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606 &p_id=6007&seq=1&format=2
With this I now get beautiful 2560x1600 resolution on the u3011 and without the annoying audio error message from this other forum, where I cross-posted my experience:

  • I WANT TO CONECT MY MBP TO MY Dell UltraSharp U2711 AT FULL REZ

Hi there i have a mac book pro 2011 13" with thunderbolt

i have tried to conect them both using thunderbolt to hdmi
    that works
    but
    i only get a rex of 1600 x 800
    my external display is 2560 x 1440
i need full rez as i am a photographer and need it for editing, also i want to get rid of my PC
is there a way of gettting full rez at all?
i seen this video on youtube will this work?

    thank you for reading this.

    Look at this:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10FT-Mini-Displayport-HDMI-ThunderBolt-Adapter-Cable-A pple-MacBook-Pro-/110810472554?pt=AU_Computers_Apple_Parts_Accessories&hash=item 19ccd1a06a
My caveats;  These are not the only adapters that you can find.  I have a feeling that these may be of inferior quality and I suggest you find some that are first rate.  Too many problems occur using cheap connectors.  After all your MBP is first rate and deserves the best.
Length is dependent upon your environmental requirements.  What I selected here is in a format that should work.  I like this configuration because of its simplicity.  I use a Mini/HDMI adapter which connects to a separate HDMI cable.  Nothing wrong with that, but not as tidy.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 won't recognise Dell Ultrasharp 2312hm

    Hi
    Desperate for help
Have purchased a Dell Ultrasharp 2312HM
I have connected it to my macbook pro 6.2 2010 (Serial Number (system): W8******AGW) via DVI cable and DVI to mini displayport connector at the mac end)
I have selected DVI input on the monitor but it just says no computer detected and goes into sleep mode
At the mac end of things, the macbooc screen flashes blue momentarily then goes back to normal.
In display preference on the mac, clicking the 'Detect displays' button has no effect whatsoever.
So in summary, the monitor is on and wired up to mac, but mac isnt detecting it
There was an identical issue from someone else back in 2012 and a long thread. I don't believe the person ever got it sorted.
...oh and Dell don't provide any support for this and say it's not compatible, but I can see from numerous threads that others have it working perpectly.
2 things I've thought of...the dell monitor instructions says it comes with a white DVI cable. Mine is black that was in the box.
I purchased a fairly cheap DVI to mini displayport adaptor on Ebay. Could this be duff? (the seller only had positive feedback)
    Help before I go mental!
    thank you!

  • Dual Dell Ultrasharp 27" screens won't both go to

System: MacPro Server 2012/10.8/ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card
Screens: 2 Dell Ultrasharp 27" U2713 (both show on the utlities menu that they are capable of 2560x1440)
With three connections on the ATI card, only the DVI port connected to DVI port on the screen reliably give 2560x1440 (60 Hz is only option)
When the other screen is connected via mini Displayport only provide 1920x1080 (60 Hz is only option)
How can I get 2560x1440 off of the minidisplayport?  I have tried the DVI cable that works on the DVI-DVI screen and it steps down, and I have tried a brand new mini Displayport to HDMI on screen cable and it also steps down?  If I switch screens also, only the DVI-DVI provides full 2560x1440. Argh!
Is it possible that only the DVI port can handle 2560x1440, and the MiniDisplayport maxes out?  Is there a better quality of HDMI required to get 2560x1440?
    Thanks!!!

Looks like it handles DisplayPort. One of those Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables should do the trick.

  • Can the late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" power 2 external Dell UltraSharp U2713HM monitors at full resolution?

Hi, I'm looking at buying the current Macbook Pro Retina 13", but I'd like to use it with 2 Dell UltraSharp U2713HM monitors http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&kc=305&l=en& oc=U2713HM-Black&s=dhs&sbc=dell-u2713hm
My plan was to use the the thunderbolt ports to the monitors DisplayPort plug. Can the 13" Macbook Pro drive 2 external screens @ 2560x1440 I'm happy to shut the macbook lid if necessary.
If the 13" can't do it, can the 15" model with it's discrete graphics card?
The Dell UltraSharp U2713HM – it’s everything you could want in a 27” monitor – screen brilliance, comfort and eco-consciousness all rolled into one
27-inch (diagonal) VIS with LED backlight
    WQHD resolution, 2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz (Max)
    178°/178° ultra-wide viewing angle
    In-plane switching technology
    Customizable brightness from 50 to 350 cd/m²
    Factory calibrated color report
    More than 99% sRGB (deltaE < 5)
DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI, DVI and VGA and USB 3.0 ports
Pivot, tilt, swivel and height adjustable (115mm)
Arsenic-free glass and mercury-free LED panel
Why not the Apple Thunderbolt screen, well I prefer a non-reflective screen in the office, but If I can't do it with the Dell's can it be done with 2 27" Thunderbolt monitors from the 13" Macbook Pro?

    In a word, yes.
The video out capabilities for the 13" and 15" retina MBPs are the same.

Hello, I want to connect another Dell UltraSharp Monitor, (identical), to my Mac Mini, late 2014 model. However, there's only one HDMI port, and two Thunderbolt ports, can I connect two monitors to this machine?

Yes. You can use the thunderbolt ports with either DVI or HDMI adapters to connect the screens to.

  • Dell E228WFP 22" display - Problems connecting to Powerbook 1.67ghz

    Hi All
I've seen this same issue mentioned in another post elsewhere in the Apple Discussions, but it seems to remain unresolved in that instance...
I've just bought a 22" Dell E228WFP display to connect to my 1.67ghz Powerbook 17", running OS 10.4.9, as a second display. It's connected with the supplied DVI cable, but continually blanks out while using it. The screen goes black for a second, then reappears.
This only happens when something moves on either screen - particularly when operating the dock or - most severely - when dragging windows around. It's perfectly fine when sitting unattended, or when I've tested running a game on the Dell screen. The problem only seems to occur when interacting with some interface element...
This seems to suggest that it's related to the video output from the Powerbook rather than a problem with the display. I don't have another Mac to hook it up to to test it under other conditions unfortunately.
The display does not exhibit the same problem under self-test mode, nor does switching resolution, colours, mirroring or arrangements make any difference. The pwer light stays on consistently throughout.
Anyone else ever experienced anything similar?
    Cheers
    Paul
    Powerbook 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've just noticed in another topic that the DVI output from Macs is 'exclusive' to Apple Cinema Displays, and can only be used with third-party display via a DVI - VGA adapter. This would make sense in relation to the other post on this subject elsewhere, where the poster talks about resolving the problem with the VGA adapter, although he thought this indicated the DVI cable was dodgy... I've not seen this issue coming up in any other discussion/post here or elsewhere where various third-party (and Dell) displays are discussed.
In addition to the circumstances listed above in my earlier post, I've now noticed that the problem is at its worse when viewing a web page with Flash content - constantly updating/changing animations and effects...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • Better Mac Pro display: Apple 23" Cinema HD or Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP?

I bought a Mac Pro a few months ago and want to upgrade my monitor. I'm currently using (via an adapter) the 17 incher that came with my old G3. Compared to the 2407WFP, Apple's display is an inch smaller, about $300 more (with applicable government discounts), with a 3-year warranty as opposed to a 5 year warranty with Dell. Anyone have any recommendations based on personal experience?
I am using the base level Mac Pro graphics card. I'm not a gaming fanatic though I'll probably play some on the Mac (as soon as Intel compatible versions come out). Mainly interested in using my computer for graphics and music.

    Glenn,
This question has been discussed many times in this forum.
    Search this forum for:
    "2407WFP"
    "2005WFP"
    "Dell"
    "UltraSharp"
and you will find many answers.
The really short answer is: some like Apple and some like Dell.

27 inch iMac to a 29 inch Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM monitor. What do I need to hook these two up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That monitor has got a lot of ports you can use. The easiest and cheapest way to connect the iMac to the Dell monitor is through a Mini DisplayPort cable, because you do not need any adapter.
Another way you have is to connect it through HDMI. In this case, you need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable
