Dell Vostro 1400 not resuming from pm-hibernate.

For some reason my laptop won't resume after hibernating with pm-hibernate.
I have added the resume hook to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and the swap drive to /boot/grub/menu.lst.
Is s2disk reports no error when creating image file and the hook is run on next boot but it doesn't work.
dmesg output:
PM: Checking image partition /dev/sda6
PM: Resume from disk failed.
PM: Starting manual resume from disk
PM: Resume from partition 8:6
PM: Checking hibernation image.
PM: Error -22 checking image file
PM: Resume from disk failed.
Any ideas?

I have loaded this driver and added the newid=0x14e4 0x1713 but still
no luck. Still can not ping the Zenworks server or do anything. The
Network lights stay lit when it tries to obtain an IP address for eth0.
I read on another site that you need to update the initrd with the new
tg3.ko driver. I will try this later tonight and see what happens.

  • Ethernet not connecting when resuming from sleep/hibernate

I use my mac (Win7) in clamshell mode quite often, and I leave the cables connected (ethernet, power, display, etc). I have noticed since installing the 3.0 Boot Camp drivers that the ethernet connection is not recognized after resuming from sleep/hibernate. I need to disconnect the cable and re-plug it in for the system to recognize the network. Anyone else seeing this?

Look through Power Options for sleep and network. There should be sleep, low power, etc. And if possible, maybe you can manually update drivers from the vendor (not Apple). And if Windows or your update doesn't work as well, then you can just as easy use Device Manager and "rollback" the last driver upgrade - a great feature. Also, use those Create/Restore Check Points.
I use to have trouble, got tired of having this issue, and bought a new modem to replace my 5 yr old model. Problem gone. Same can happen regarding routers, sometimes a firmware update, but I had one router that had been superceeded by 4th generation and no firmware patch anymore.

  • X230 hangs when resuming from sleep/hibernate

Sometimes my x230 becomes unresponsive after resuming from sleep/hibernate.
The "system" process would take up one core (25%) and the hard disk activity light would stay on all the time. I could switch between applications that were already started, but I couldn't start any new applications, and giving the currently running applications any keyboard or mouse input, would put them in the "not responding" state.
The only way I found to get out of this state is to do a cold shut-down... holding on the power button for 5 sec.
This hang would happen quite often... about 3-4 out of 10 resumes... very annoying that I would lose the state of all my open applications.
I did a system update to the latest driver versions, including a bios update. That seemed to fix the problem... at least for a while... Then it started happening again, althouh less frequently... but it still happens.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

    hi Vicentiu,
Thanks for posting your result. Based from your results, its great to hear that performance of your machine has improved quite a bit. Although that was not what we were look for
Anyhow, in this case could you possibly update the "Intel Management Engine" as there a case i worked with not long ago on an x220 which had similar porblems. By updating the BIOS and Intel Management Firmware did the trick.
It worth the try though. The link for the update can be found below.

  • Troubles with dell vostro 1400

recently buy a dell vostro 1400 with vista, first install ubuntu and then with internet install arch, but something strange happen with arch, the processor fan work too much, ok, runung kde s normal, but with an base install(no X,kde) the fan work at full, use cpudyn/cpufreq to control the speed but happen, with ubuntu not troubles, and even with vista the fan doesn work to much, only when see movies, but with arch even with init3 the fan enouth for me, meybe do something wrong or miss ??
    currently my installation use cpudyn.

Is your CPU overheating? I'd install lm_sensors and see how high the temperature is going. You should do this for all three (Ubuntu, Arch, Vista) if you can and compare what the temperatures are. My guess is that the arch install just has a more cautious approach to cooling. If the temperature is staying constantly above 65C then that would be the problem. Try scaling your CPU down further using cpufreq. Check that it's working by doing as root:
    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
This will tell you what your current CPU speed is. If it never goes below maximum then that is the problem.

  • HP 15t j000 will not wake from sleep/hibernate Windows 8,8.1,10

HP 15t j000 will not wake from sleep/hibernate Windows 8,8.1,10. I have to restart. I've searched high and low for answer to this. I've seen videos, played with power settings.  I hoped each Windows system upgrade would fix the problem. No go. Anyone with any ideas?

Hi , Thank you for your query.  I understand that after upgrading to Windows 10, it will not wake from sleep mode unless you restart. The first step I would try is to disable "Hybrid Boot' or "Hybrid Shutdown.  This can be done by turning off "Fast Startup" Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 Next try running the "Update Troubleshooter"  Windows Update troubleshooter. Once launched, it should show a screen like this. Use the second option "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", it should lead to a force update of 'Windows Updates' that may not be automatically being applied, that could fix some of these issues.
Here is a link to HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate Issues (Windows 10, 8) that may also help.  To say thanks for replying please click the thumbs up button below. If this yielded a solution please choose solution provided to help other people find this information.  Best of Luck!

  • Resume from Sleep / Hibernate issues

    Hi all,
First time poster. I have a Helix and am running into a heap of resume from sleep (and hibernate) issues.
The sleep issues tend to happen overnight - I do not have this issue if I sleep the machine and then wake it up 5-10 minutes later (e.g. moving between meetings at work). However, when I attempt to wake the machine up in the morning, it fails to resume from sleep, and instead boots from scratch.
Typically, when the unit is in this state, the status led on the lid is rapidly blinking (which I believe means that it's trying to enter sleep) Since there is nothing in the Windows event log during the overnight period, I'm wondering whether it's trying to enter a deeper sleep mode and failing.
This happens every second day or so. Which is really frustrating as a tend to lose some work.
I tried enabling hibernate as a trial, to see if that would avoid the issue, but resuming from hibernate fails as well. At least I get a Windows event log entry for this (source: kernel-power. The unit fails to resume from hibernate with status 0xC000000D)
I have the September 10 BIOS update, and am running Windows 8.1 Enterprise (though I had the issue with Windows 8 as well).
Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this?
    Regards
    AC

Windows 8: In Windows 8, the default shutdown behavior puts the system into hybrid shutdown (S4) and all devices are put into D3. Remote wake from hybrid shutdown (S4) or classic shutdown (S5) is completely unsupported. In Windows 8, NICs are explicitly not armed for wake in both the classic shutdown (S5) and hybrid shutdown (S4) cases because users expect zero power consumption and battery drain in the shutdown state. This behavior removes the possibility of spurious wakes when explicit shutdown was requested. As a result, Wake-On-LAN is only ever supported from sleep (S3) or hibernate (S4) in Windows 8.
Note that in Windows 8, hybrid shutdown (S4) stops user sessions but the contents of kernel sessions are written to hard disk. This enables faster boot.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa373229(v=vs.85).aspx
    From the Helix User Guide:
•Slow blinking: The tablet is in sleep mode.
•Fast blinking: The tablet is entering hibernation mode or sleep mode.
That was my reason for clarifying if hybrid-sleep was enabled; since it's the default setting and you noted that the LED was blinking fast. Does the LED ever stop blinking fast?
There can/may be multiple log entries during a normal sleep operation,  because "the system uses the lowest-powered sleep state supported by all enabled wake-up devices." If one of those devices wakes the system (this does not mean power on) then the logs will report the devices and will likely return to a another level of sleep, but this does not mean full power loss or empty logs.
If the system has successfully entered sleep state, then you should see the following message in System Event logs.
    Event 42, Kernel - Power
    This system is entering sleep.
    Sleep Reason: Button or lid
When the system is successfully woke you will see a System Event Log similar to this:
    Event 1, Power - Troubleshooter
The system has returned from a low power state.
    Sleep time: 2013-10-08T01:42:25.XXXXXXXX
    Wake time: 2013-10-08T05:53:21.XXXXXXXX
However, there will be other events in the logs after sleep and prior to this wake period, such as hardware device issues(My helix has Bluetooth device warnings, nfc driver warnings and some other nondescript hardware errors), kernel messages (about boot manager, boot options, etc.).
Have you changed the behavior of the power button?
You also can program the power buttons so that by pressing the power button you can shutdown the tablet or put it into sleep or hibernation mode. To achieve this, you need to change your power plan settings. To access power plan settings, do the following:
From the desktop, tap the battery status icon in the Windows notification area.
    Tap More power options.
In the navigation panel, tap Choose what the power buttons do
Follow the onscreen instructions to configure settings.
Lastly, when you updated to Windows 8.1, did you format the whole C:\ (mSATA) drive?

  • Can not resume from blanking or screensavers

    Hello,
I have filed Bug #21395, with no response or assignment of the bug since I've filed it.
    My hardware goes as follows:
Intel P4 Pro, 2.4-Ghz processor desktop PC
    1 Gb RAM
    Nvidia 7300 GT card
    Audigy 2 sound card
The issue with the bug has not decreased, but only increased with updates of xset, Xorg, Nvidia driver, etc. since I filed the bug, and it is next to impossible to resume from the blanking (that is turned completely off btw), and with dpms turned off.
I have no clue where the issue is with this; whether it is an upstream issue, or an Arch one. I am out of ideas on where to look.
If anyone has any kind of feedback on this that might help, I'd really appreciate it.
Current drivers and Xorg software installed:
    pacman -Q nvidia
    nvidia 260.19.21-1
    pacman -Q xorg-server
    xorg-server 1.9.2-1
    pacman -Q xorg-server-common

    And finally,

  • T61p: Vista - BSOD when resume from sleep / hibernate, casued by classpnp.sys

I've got a T61p (Type: 6457) with preinstalled Vista, later upgraded with SP1. Everything worked like a charm, untill a week or so, when the BSOD appeared when either resuming from sleep or hibernation.
I've checked the minidump, and it seems as the classpnp.sys is causing the trouble, however, I've yet not found a good solution to fix the problem (I'm close to doing a restore to factory install, but would like to avoid if possible

There's an issue with your GPU, video driver or both...try running this for a while:
    http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm
If there's an underlying problem, this test will reveal it. And when I say "a while" I mean for an hour or more...
Please be advised that if your GPU is on its way out (I've had them fail on T60p due to VRAM corruption) this test might just finish it and push it over the edge. Proceed at your own risk.
    Good luck.

  • Msi Z68 GD65 (B3) will not resume from sleep with multiplier above 43

I have an i5 2500k that is otherwise stable (can pass prime95 for hours) at 4.4 ghz, but no matter what I do I cannot get my computer to resume from sleep properly when I go over 4.3 ghz. At 4.3 ghz it resumes from sleep fine, but once the multiplier goes over 43 it simply will not resume. The monitor stays in standby mode, but my PC's fans spin up and my keyboard backlight turns on.
I have tried disabling and enabling pll overvoltage, but it does not help.
It resumes from hibernation fine, but that takes quite a bit longer than resuming from sleep because the POST on this board isn't particularly fast.
This happened both with my previous card (560 ti) and my current card (7950), so I seriously doubt it is a GPU issue. I have a seasonic x750 PSU, so I doubt it is a power issue. I have very good cpu cooling and my temperatures are pretty low even under load. Is this a board defect? I see that ASUS boards had a similar issue that was apparently fixed, but I can't find as much info about an MSI isssue.

Being an experienced OC'er, then you know that trial and error is the tried and true time honored method in the attempt to solve problems. The solution I would recommend is to accept an OC of 4.3, stick with hibernation, or continue with experimentation of combinations of settings, or you can hope someone comes along that 'may' know of a 'solution'.

Big difference between 'apparently' fixed and actually fixed. You might try MSI Technical, but it may be interesting what they say once they know OC'ing is involved.

Thank you for the patronizing response. Does anyone have a response that is actually useful instead of generic "you don't know what OCing does" comments? I have been OCing for years; I know what it does to a system. I am looking for SOLUTIONS here.
Some friendly advice is to watch the attitude, or not many will be inclined to offer any assistance at all. Yours is not a situation that the mainboard is non functional, and is more related to an OC'ing behavior.

Suspend has always been problematic under Linux. It seems to be hit or miss for the most part, but here are some things you can try:
Use an LTS kernel, tuxonice, pm-utils, etc. See Suspend and Hibernate
    Try a different graphics driver
Tweak the driver module parameters or build your own driver.
Unfortunately I don't have experience with the radeon driver, so I can only give you ideas.

  • Not able to resume from suspend/hibernate

    Hey guys,
I've had this problem since the moment I installed Arch (according to the pacman logs 17th March), but I was hoping until now for it to get resolved after some update.
The problem is, I'm not able to resume after a suspend or hibernate. It's really strange, suspending is always successful, according to the last line in /var/log/pm-suspend.log, but after I try to resume I get a blank screen and the system goes into a loop of turning on/off the hardware in intervals of around 10 seconds, and it never stops actually. pm-utils is configured according to the wiki, and the swap partition is big enough to hold all the session data.
    Things I've tried so far:
disabled KMS, added vga=0 to the kernel parameters
tried vesa (so it's obviously not related to the video drivers)
    switched DEs (GNOME->KDE->currently XFCE)
    running pm-suspend from terminal
    added resume hook to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
If you need more info please let me know,
    Cheers

  • X61 will not resume from standby/screensaver

If the screensaver is enabled with password protect and it goes into screensaver, when resuming there is no login window or fingerprint software. Mouse pointer is the only thing available. Hitting Ctrl - Alt - Del will not bring up anything. User has to restart laptop to log back in.
This is an X61 - 767374u running Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software v5.6.1.3425. There are two updates available to this software, v5.6.2.3650 and v5.8.2.4462 but neither say it fixes the standby/resume issue.
I know for sure this was a known issue on the t400's running Lenovo Fingerprint software v3.2.0.99 and lower.
    Any ideas?

Ok, so I updated the software with v5.6.2.3650 and then v5.8.2.4462. Fingerprints still worked, nothing got erased. Left it alone for a while and noticed that the screensaver didn't kick in this time.
The user is going to test it for a few days and see if does it again.
