I swiched from win7 to win8.1 on my new dell vostro 3546 and i have successfully install all the drivers except wireless drivers whenever i am trying to install that drivers it gives me the error "Turn on bluetooth using wireless switch" i have tried using that antena button on prtscn but its of no use.please help me to connect to my wifi again :(

Activate bluetooth using Wireless Switch?
I'm getting really frustrated now because my laptop seems to have forgotten that a thing called Bluetooth exists. I noticed the bluetooth wasn't working so I tried to install the newest driver but it fails to install saying I need to "Activate bluetooth using Wireless Switch". As far as I can tell this means pressing fn+f2 which turns on/off the wifi and blutooth but this does nothing and besides that is always on.
Next I went to mobility center and found this: .
Bluetooth appears to be on but I still can't connect anything with it or install the latest driver. When I click launch it takes me to my PC settings in which there is nothing about bluetooth. Search bluetooth yields two results: set up a connection or network and turn on or off wireless devices. Under wireless devices there are only two settings, airplane mode and wi-fi. Under Set up a connection everything is related to LAN and Wi-Fi, nothing about bluetooth.
If I go to services.msc I find this: So bluetooth defintiely exists in some form but for some reason I just can't access it and it can't pick up bluetooth devices. Someone please tell me I'm an idiot and I'm missing something obvious, please I've been at it for an hour.Hi,
If you still haven't been able to resolve this, have you tried physically removing the card, deleting all the drivers, etc., rebooting the system, and after that shutting down. Then physically reinstall the card, either let Windows find the drivers or install them yourself, and see if it straightens out the issue?
You can also check Microsoft's article on troubleshooting bluetooth issues.
Other than that, honestly I'm not sure what you may have missed. Let me know if you've resolved the issue (and if so, how, so that others with the same problems can find your solution). If not, like I said, physically remove the card and uninstall the drivers to see what happens.

[Solved] Xorg Error Dell Vostro 3700
Hi guys,
I have been using Arch for quite a few years. I just got a new laptop in the form of a Dell Vostro 3700 with a Nvidia GT 330m.
When I go to start X I get an error saying that "no screens are found". I have "nvidia" and "nvidia-utils" installed. I am thinking this
is a driver issue as Dell computers do not support drivers straight from nvidia.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Last edited by serideth (2010-12-09 13:09:25)I will try the Nouveau driver, It has switchable graphics (which wasn't listed by Dell when I bought it) and the switching happens automatically when I plug in the AC (meaning I don't have to log out to switch like the old switchable graphics) but I am not sure whether it is Optimus (No mention by Dell that it is Optimus enabled).

Just confirmed out that It DOES have switchable GPU's and Nvidia Optimus which you would think Dell would have advertised in giant writing on their website.
So now to setup arch with the Intel drivers.
I will let you know how it goes.
Second Edit.
Installed the xf86-video-intel drivers and its working now. Attempting to use the Nouveau or the official Nvidia drivers causes Xorg to return the previous error. This seems to be an incompatibility issue with laptops with switchable graphics and/or Nvidia Optimus. Linux can only utilize the Intel IGP, which is fine for me since I will only use my Arch install to code and leave gaming to W7 with Steam, however if you are planning on using Linux as your primary/only OS on your laptop with switchable graphics/Optimus be advised you will only be able to use the integrated graphics. A fix does not appear to be coming anytime soon either.

Why do I get this error when trying to use my bluetooth headset as a listening device? There was an error connecting to your audio device. Make sure it is turned on and in range. The audio portion of the program you were using may have to be restarted.
I may have already resolved this issue buy removing the device from my computer and re-pairing it. It is currently working just fine.

Hello all,
my Laptop (Dell Vostro - running XP SP3) neither recognizes my iPad 2 nor my iPhone 4!
Both devices are working correctly with my desktop PC running Vista with the same USB cable!
I followed trouble shooting guides, checked that the drivers are present, installed, removed and reinstalled the latest iTunes (in the correct order together with the other Apple software components) etc. but nothing works! The interesting thing is that when I plug the iPad or the iPhone in the laptop's usb-port for a second Windows correctly shows the devices either as iPad or iPhone in the "Device Manager" with an exclamation point !!! But then after a split second Windows allways switches the devices to Digital Camera and the correct iPad or iPhone disappears !!! => That is why I guess that this is a driver problem!
Does anybody have any idea what else I can try?
Is there a manual way to install the drivers for the iPad 2 or iPhone 4?

MTRR allocation problem on Dell Vostro
Hello good people,
I am having MTRR messages from kernel and a warning that graphics performance may suffer. I know from the sparse mtrr documentation around that I can set them up as I want and everything should work but after trying several changes, the only thing I have managed to do it get a horribly slow laptop.
I am running 64bit Arch on Dell Vostro 3550. I have 6GB ram and a hybrid video card setup with an Intel card and an ATI one. I am using the proprietary Catalyst driver and I also have the intel driver installed.

I noticed in /proc/config.gz that I don't have MTRR cleanup enabled by default so I tried adding enable_mtrr_cleanup to the boot line but I still don't get a good mtrr.

According to what I have read, I want to have these as write-combining. The other ranges I have no idea why they are there which complicates my attempts at fixing the mtrr.

There are a fair amount of people who have posted their /proc/mtrr there, you can compare yours to them.
In the end they come to the conclusion, that uncachable entries are not a problem, for the most systems.
However uncachable regions of 1024MB seem to be too large.
On my mtrr the biggest uncachable entry is 64MB.
So you might get improvement from solving this. -
Dell Vostro V13 wireless card issue

Assuming you're using the kernel b43 driver... did you install the firmware? There's a b43-firmware package in AUR.
If that won't work, then the wl driver is an alternative.

The brcm80211 driver is included in the kernel since 2.6.37. No further action is necessary on the part of the user."
...so I didn't installed anything besides wicd. -
I've had a problem for quite awhile trying to use my Dell Vostro 1510 to connect to a PXI system but now it has become imperative that I get this to work since I need to make changes to a system offsite.
Once I load NI-CAN and NI-XNET, I can no longer connect to my PXI, Remote Systems goes away in MAX, error regarding "canexperts" is displayed, and no Software is even listed in MAX.
I have no problems when using my Dell desktop.
I've downloaded "Dependency Walker" and have attached the file. I've downloaded and installed all the latest drivers for MAX.
Not sure where to go from here. I need to get this laptop working with the PXI. Any clues would be appreciated!

Clickonsw.jpg shows the error message that appears when I click on the + in front of software.
NoRemote.jpg shows how MAX looks after I answer NO to the error message. I didn't capture it on the first picture but my remote system shows up before I install the CAN software. After, it disappears.
GPIB Guru, I believe there is only one version of XNET (1.0) which includes CAN 2.7. A different message used to occur with earlier versions of CAN (a dll failed to initialize or something close).
I'm leaning toward a problem with the BIOS of the laptop. I'm not going to install on another machine since it works on my desktop. The main issue is that I need it on my laptop because I have to travel out of the country to make changes on a PXI system and I cannot lug a desktop with me! Unfortunately the only other laptop available here at work is the exact same model that we use for PLC type machines.
I'm hoping I can find a workaround for this issue.

Error "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes". But it's on...
When I try to use my Computer section on my Apple TV so that I can view movies or music in my iTunes library it gives me the error "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes". Of course I have done that already in iTunes on my computer. I went into my iTunes preferences and in sharing made sure "Share my library on my local network" was checked. It's not requiring a password so it should be good to go.
Right now I am using my old Qwest modem to get DSL. It's using transparent bridging and I have it plugged into a new Cisco 800 series router and I also have a Cisco Aironet 1200 AG series for my wireless devices. I am using WPA encryption.
I have my entire music library as well and my entire movie library that I like to get through my Apple TV. I am unable to access any of it. I would be so grateful if anyone can help me. It may be an easy fix but I can't find it. I searched the forum and couldn't find anything. Please someone help! Thanks in advance for any help!

Testwise. I installed from AUR the "psmouse-elantech" package (as mentioned in the Touchpad Synaptics article). After reboot, no effect at all, xinput gives the same output.

I'm attempting to connect to a website I've being using for 5 years plus. Now Firefox reports that the certificate is improper, and the message, " Web service is turned off. An administrator can turn it on using the Server application.", is given.
I don't know what to do with this information. Web service is on for other websites. What is the "server application?" How can I take control and connect? I am the administrator.I cannot replicate on another browser. In fact, I now cannot replicate on my Firefox browser. I can only assume that the certificate problem was taken care of by the website involved. But in case this problem returns, I wonder what server application I am to use in order to turn my (?) web service on?
Cryptic, unexplained error messages are a pet peeve of mine. It seems that Microsoft does not have a lock on such frustrating messages.
