I recently installed a new evga gtx 970 into my dell xps 8700. The pc loads up properly but the gtx 970 isn't found in the device manger or nvidia's experience program. I have tried resetting default bios settings with no avail. In the device manager my display adapter is "Microsoft basic display adapter" any help is much appreciated thanks
ps. im using the a10 bios from dell
thanks again

I would download a driver from nVidia and install it.

  • DELL XPS 8700 rebuild?

I plan to sort of rebuild my Dell XPS 8700 desktop... I would like a new case, new psu, and a new GPU and possibly a new cooler! I plan on getting these items
    GPU: GTX 970 superclocked 4gb
Case: Sentey® Bx1-4284 Plus Gaming Computer Case
    PSU: Corsair CX750 750w PSU
The main thing that I am confused about is the case... I heard the motherboard may or may not fit the case properly, and I am in need of a better case, I need better cooling also due to my house being 80 degrees in the summertime... *** to *** huh? I don't feel like buying a new AC unit just to make sure my computer doesn't melt...
So any help would be awesome, I am set on buying that PSU and GPU, but the Case is a different ball game for me... I know Dell doesn't recommend replacing cases... but I bought the computer so I want to do it! Thanks!

I was able to solve the problem.
Dell XPS models has 'Allow Wake Timers" enabled on it by default.
I was able to disable it by going to Power Options >Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Sleep> Allow Wake Timers > DIsable
Hopefully now my Desktop will get a good night sleep.

From my personal experience, I wouldn't go for an Integrated card. This is one of the most important components for Photoshop, so invest in a decent graphics card (ATI or NVidia). It doesn't have to be a really exepensive one - I have been using ATI Radeon with 256MB of RAM on my Dell Studio for almost two years and it still rocks! (even when I work with 3D in Ps CS5 Extended).
I would also invest in more RAM (this can be added easily - I bought extra 4GB as my Studio came with 3GB).
I wouldn't worry about the processor - I'm on Intel Core 2 Duo - and it works very very well, it's very quick which is very important as I'm training Photoshop.
    I hope this helps.

  • Problem beim Installieren von Adobe-Produkten auf DELL XPS 8700

    Hallo,
    Vielen Dank!
    Herzliche Grüße
    Stephan Barth

Kann keiner wissen. Dafür gibt's Installationslogs:
    Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CC
Und natürlich mal mit der IT-Abteilung klären, welche benutzerrechte auf dem System aktiv sind und ob du überhaupt Installationen machen darfst.

  • XPS 8700, Sound stuttering during playback

I have a new 2 month old Dell XPS 8700.  I notice the other day a sound problem that is strange to say the least. When I play back a .flac or .mp3 file, the sound stutters. It's like it comes out in pulses once a second. It's quite un-listenable. Not sure when this started. I'm running Windows 8.1 fully updated as of 2/6/2015. The problem shows up with Windows 8 music player, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center and vlc. All show the exact same playback anomaly. It also happens when I use the same players to play an .avi or .mkv video. The sound is bad no matter which audio port I use. I also get the same artifact using USB Headphones with their own DAC. What is weird about this symptom is that if stream Pandora, Somafm, or watch a youtube video, I do NOT get this symptom. The audio is perfectly fine. I ran the  Dell PC Checkup and no problems are detected. Device Manager says all my drivers are up to date. Any ideas about what is going on and how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

I did.  I tried the update, but it failed because I already had the update.  I had installed it a few weeks ago when I was setting up the PC and downloading all the Windows, Office and Dell updates.
Ironies of ironies is that the failed update helped me resolve the problem.  I thought I would uninstall the Realtek drivers via Device Manager which I did.  But, before running the update again, I checked to see if the symptom was still present. The stuttering went away!  Problem solved.
It seems that this is working with an Invidia sound driver from what I can surmise from Device Manager. So, I'm just not going to install the Realtek driver unless there is a change in the symptom.  I'm beginning to think that it was the updating I did a few weeks ago that broke my sound!
    Thanks again for helping.

  • XPS 8700, GTX Titan x, Black Screen on Boot have bios A10

I have been trying to get this to work for a few days now. I contacted Nvidia support and they said the problem could be that this pcie slot defaults to 8x speed even though this slot is clearly a 16x.
I have looked in the bios where the person at Nvidia suggested I could change the bus speed. Here is what they said below.
"I found the same link to check on your motherboard specs. But I couldn't find if the PCI-e 3.0 running at 8x speed or 16x speed.
If it is running at 8x speed then, the issue could be possibly due to motherboard compatibility. Most of these motherboards are defaulted to 8x speed, even though the video card is connected in a 16x slot, there are options to change the slot speed in the BIOS.
    Regards
    NVIDIA Customer Care"
I just got a brand new Coolermaster V750 for this gfx card so I am sure I am getting enough power, and I added new 16gb gskill ram to it. I have more than enough to get this stuff up and running. I have even seen this was a common problem with the older bios and the 9 series late last year when they launched and people put them on these xps systems. The bios supposedly fixed it for the other people having problems with this but it would not fix the problem for me. You can see the thread in the link below.

So in your humble opinion would you think that my Titan could be defective?
I humbly do not know.  I've not heard anyone attempt a Titan in an XPS 8700.
You might ask for help on a hard-core forum like overclock.net

    good luck.
This thread lists what has been working...

  • HT1473 I can't find a pull down for authorize my new Dell XPS computer with Windows 8 in the itunes store like support said to

I can't find a pull down at the Itunes store to authorize my new Dell XPS computer with Window 8... according to the support there is supposed to be one... Anybody run into this before?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

The Studio XPS 9100 is 19.4 inches high by 7.8 inches wide by 20.7 inches deep. It weighs about 40 pounds. A 525-watt power supply powers the computer.
I use Audition, Premiere Pro and After Effects (Dynamic Link) to edit concerts filmed on 4 HD Camera's (m2ts x3 and mp4) I also take and mix 6-8 tracks from soundboard and mix in audition. I find my system is struggling to keep up when I have done some color correction and then try to cut in multi-cam mode. My graphics card does not support CUDA and as stated above my system only has a 525w power supply. So a GeForce GTX 470, 570, 580 would not be compatable. I do not GAME but I work with large HD files (4 angles, 1-2 hours each, audio & effects).
My trouble is I don't know which one of the graffics cards that support Mercury play back, would be the best for my needs without having to upgrade my power source (if possable). I'm thinking a mid level card and another 8-12 ram upgrade would be more suited (and cheaper) to my needs, unless I'm going to need a power upgrade anyway. If someone could please let me know what card would help me with my worload of these that would be great! I guess what Im saying is can someone tell me which of these is compatable with my system and is it worth it for the change in performance I will see?

Right now I can get a 570 for 175 bucks... R4yMoNd. When I look at the 570 in comparison  to what I have it doesnt look as though itis going to make too much difference. http://www.hwcompare.com/9048/geforce-gtx-570-vs-radeon-hd-5870/ I'm sure however the CUDA cores will speed it right up. I'm no good when it comes to all that so thanks to both you for the help. I have tracked down a 670 in stock (seems tough) for $440 then I need a 700 w power supply for about 70. If the 570 should take care of the problems listed above thats what I'm going for.. Just wasnt sure if it would make the needed difference

  • Gtx 970 increased TDP vBios...where???

Hi mates, just as title says...whre can I find a vbios for my msi gtx 970 4g to increase the tiny 10% TDP limit?? I cant find a solution for this...Im reaching the 110% limit and my card throtles so I would like to eliminate this issue...
    Many thanks!

    Ok, many thanks mate!!
I found in overclockers.net the needed tools to modify my actual vbios but also all tutorials seems to change "too many" things I dont want to be changed...I think my card has enough voltage (1,256v) to achieve the 1,5Ghz I want, so THE ONLY THING I want to change is the TDP limit to something like 125% or so, just that...the problem is Im not sure how to change ONLY that without messing everything else...any help would be nice. Also I flashed the .186 version of the official vbios to solve the 30 sec fan activation in my card, would that be a problem to flash now a modded vbios??
About the temperature limit well, thats something I wasnt sure since begining, I wondered, should I set the priority to temperature or TDP?? then I though that setting priority to TDP would be less restrictive with TDP...now I see that is the completely opposite, right??...by setting priority to temperature would be less restrictive with TDP, right??
    Many thanks!!

No, that is useless. Either save the vbios to file with nvflash or gpu-z, upload it to some filehoster and add link or add the entire content of the rep.txt file created with nvflash (nvflash /v >rep.txt [ENTER])

3.) If we need to check if thier is a more recent version. We can check your Vbios in one of two ways.
A.) Upload a copy of your current vbios somewhere and give us a link. You can save a copy of your vbios using >>GPU-Z<<.
B.) You can also just use NVFLASH >>Download NVFLASH for windows<<
    Syntax:
    nvflash /v >rep.txt [ENTER]
This will copy all of the information we need into a txt file you will fine in the folder in which you placed nvflash.
4.) Be aware that gpu-z screenshots or what gpu-z reads out as bios version are NOT of any use for identifying the required vbios version. While it doesn't hurt to add those when S/N and an actual copy of the vbios are also supplied simply just adding screenshots or version readouts will not get you any further and us having to ask for the required informations.
By the way the vbios you found is wrong for your card.

  • MSI z68A-GD80 (g3) "B2" error with ned gtx 970

    Hey.
    Hardware info:
    MSI z68A-GD80 (g3) - Bios version. V18.8
    Intel i5 2500k
    4x4GB kingston hyperX 1600mhz
    MSI 970 gaming g4
    PSU : Seasonic SS-500GB
My problem is that when I'm trying to install the new GPU i get the error "b2" when i boot. If i chance back to my old gpu (560 ti) or the gpu on the CPU there is no problem. Also i have tested the gtx 970 in another PC and it works.
After some reseach i found out that i need a bios update. I have tried this but with no luck, cant upgrade bios. I have use "MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing" tools with bios from MSI hp (I choose the (g3) bios) . I can get the bios on the USP stick but when I'm trying to install the new bios i got the error "Bios corruption detected !!" and stopped. I don't know what to do now, i hope that you can help me
    The usp stick is fat32

I had the exact same problem as the original poster - same motherboard, same old graphics card (560ti) and same new graphics card (970 gaming) and got the same B2 error code and the PC not going beyond that.
I flashed the bios and that fixed the problem - the exact version I used was on this page:
Ok, this forum isn't allowing me to post a link to it, but just go to the official page for the motherboard on MSI's website - then click on Support and Service Location, which should open up the list of BIOS upgrades...
The top one as of writing this is version 19.2
To do the flashing of the BIOS  you must load the downloaded exe file onto a flash drive and run it from there. Don't worry if it seems like your PC is hanging, it just takes a while (while still in Windows). It then reboots and will finish up flashing the BIOS (you'll see a red bar with the warning on a black background with white text).
After doing that, my GTX970 GAMING works like an absolute charm! I can now finally enjoy Minecraft like it was meant to be played haha (kidding, I played GTA 5 the whole weekend with EVERYTHING to the absolute MAX!)
Hope this helps if you are experiencing this extremely annoying error.

  • Headphone output stopped working (snd-hda, Dell XPS 13)

Update: I got it working! See my second post; I will leave this here as a reference for those with the same problem.
My headphone output stopped working, and my integrated microphone also stopped working. The speakers work fine, though.
AFAIK, I didn't do anything, and am quite baffled as to why this is. It's worked fine for half a year.
I have a Dell XPS 13; it came installed with Ubuntu, I booted that, where it *does* work (just to eliminate hardware problems).
    I'm running 3.16.4-1; I also downgraded to 3.16.3, which didn't help.
I'm testing with speaker-test and mplayer -ao alsa; I normally use PulseAudio, but eliminating that for testing seemed like a sane thing to do. It doesn't work either way.
I also downloaded the hda_analyzer, that has a lot of options, but I'm not sure what most of them mean...
The closest I've been able to get at the problem is this:
    [~]% alsactl monitor
    card 0, #17 (0,0,0,Headphone Mic Jack,0) VALUE
    card 0, #17 (0,0,0,Headphone Mic Jack,0) VALUE
This is an insert & remove of my headphone jack; ALSA does detect something it seems. It's listed as "Headphone Mic Jack", is this right?
Any hints would be greatly appreciated!
    More info:
    [~]% cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
    options snd-hda-intel enable=0,1
    options snd-hda-intel model=dell-headset-multi,dell-headset-multi
This is required to get this to work in the first place, and always has worked; I tried some other options, to no avail. the enable=0,1 is to disable the HDMI output (disabling this has no effect either).
    $ cat /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/model
    dell-headset-multi,dell-headset-multi,(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null), +(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null),(null)
To verify these options are actually being used
    $ id -Gn
martin wheel video audio vboxusers nfs
I'm in the audio group, not sure if this is required, but can't hurt.
    [~]# cat /etc/asound.conf
    # Use PulseAudio by default
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse

Update: I mucked about more after making this post; I installed gnome-alsa-mixer and checked the "internal mic" option and "Auto-Mute mode" (both were off), after this my headphone output works again, and does the built-in microphone (!)
I have no idea how I ended up in this "broken" situation, or even what this option does, or how to use it without gnome-alsa-mixer (I had to install 15 packages to get this, as I normally don't use gnome)... Sound on Linux still seems no better than when I started using it 15 years ago :-( (I spent about 5 hours on this...)

Hello, I've uploaded a little illustrator script that might be handy to some. Ideally designers collaborating with developers could use this, because what it does is fairly simple: it exports the coordinates of selected items in a document. Designers
