Dell XPS M1330 entry in the wiki. Discuss here !

Hi,
I created a page for Dell XPS M1330. For now there is just little information, I hope archers who own this amazing laptop would complete it .
Cheers !

OK. Removed all partitions, created sda1 for Vista, sda2 for swap, sda3 for root and sda4 for home. I installed Arch first (doesn't really matter) when I installed Vista (but then of course I had to boot my Arch installation with the CD again to reinstall grub, but no problems). Works now.
BUT. Heads up: Windows Vista installation (don't know if SP1 solves this, this CD doesn't have SP1) hangs after some reboots when it tries to identify the hardware. I can see the USB devices on the computer link, then the display goes black and goes back on again (detecting the graphics card or whatever), and then it just sits there, doing nothing. No HDD activity or nothing. The solution? Change SATA mode in BIOS _from_ AHCI _to_ ATA.
Just for future reference.
I have a problem though, I can't access the internet from my Arch. Modprobe:ing the bcm43xx module just says "driver loaded" in dmesg, but I don't get wlan0 or eth1 (eth0 is LAN card) or anything, iwconfig etc says "no devices with wireless extensions". Any ideas?
Edit: Doh, need fwcutter for the wlan. Downloading it now, putting it on my USB stick. Hopefully it will work

  • Should I pick the Macbook Air/Pro or the Dell XPS 13?

    Hello everyone!
I'm a 10th grade student in a international school, where we are allowed to use laptops instead of our regular notebooks. In my class no one uses a notebook, so I would be the first one.
My idea came from the fact that I broke my arm, and am unable to write normally for the next 3 months, as my hand is in a cast. I am currently writing on my iPad, which is nice, as I can only use my left hand for typing. I didn't really think much of it, but after few days I realised how easy it is to type on a tablet instead of on a piece of paper.
I took my exams on a PC and I was easily able to write with my left hand only. The experience was much better, as I was able to erase all my mistakes/ rewrite someting I didn't like… but let's get to the point.
After I finish my iGCSE's, I'll be going to the IB diploma programme. It is very rigorous and requires a lot of work, so a laptop would be very helpful. The three laptops I want to choose  between are:
    1. 13" Macbook Air
    2. 13" Macbook Pro
    3. New Dell XPS 2015 13" (http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-13-9333/pd?oc=fncwp1512h)
Now I know about the rumors of the new Macbook Air 12" with retina display, but the idea of having one port only doesn't appeal to me. I currently have an iMac 27" late 2013, along with an iPad and an iPhone. It is better to stick to apple just for the whole sync. between all devices, or is the Dell better in terms of performance? The ultrabook would be used for typing essays, editing videos (I'm doing film at school, so we get assignments like that pretty often) and of course web browsing. Gaming isn't really a priority, but to play some easy-going games such as garry's mod or turbo dismount on the go would be nice.
So what do you guys this is the best pick? I want the laptop to last another three years before I go to uni, and that's the reason I want to go for either the mid-spec. MacBook Pro/Air or the fully spec. Dell XPS 13. Price plays a role here, as I can only pay max. 1500$ for it, so I cannot afford the fully spec. MacBook Pro 13".
Ps. I really like the touchscreen in the Dell XPS 13, but does it affect the battery life much? It's really important that it lasts at least 8 hours a day, as I start school really early in the morning, and finish late in the afternoon.
    Thank you for your answer,

  • Yoga 2 Pro vs Dell XPS 11

From what I can tell in the current marketplace, these two tablets are at the top of the heap and the only true competition for each other.
The Yoga 2 Pro and Dell XPS 11 each exceed the other in numerous metrics.
    Here is a quick comparison:
    1) Price - Yoga 2 Pro gives you an i5 with 128 gb SSD for $999.  The XPS gives you only an i3 with an 80 gb SSD for that price.
    2) Ports - XPS 11 wins this one with 2 USB 3.0 ports vs the Y2P 1 USB 3.2 andd 1 USB 2.0.
    3) Screen - Y2P offers more real estate and higher PPI by 20 points than XPS 11.
    4) Portability - XPS 11 is thinner, has a smaller footprint and is 1/2 pound lighter.
    5) Keyboard - Y2P offers an excellent real keyboard.  XPS offers a weird kind of flat, non-depressable surface that offers haptic feedback but apparently is hard to type fast on, especially if you have fingernails.
    6) Active Digitizer - Easy win for XPS 11 here.  Big fumble by Y2P.
    7) Best for Business - Depends.  Bigger better screen and better keyboard vs thinner, lighter, smaller footprint and a pen.  Some Legacy programs such as Access with forms designed for desktops may be a bit small on the XPS.
    8) Best Desktop Replacement - Have to give this to the Y2P based upon the larger screen.
    9) Wifi - This one goes to the XPS11 as it offers dual channel AC.
So it's a tough call.  What do you guys think?  IMHO if the Y2P had included an active digiitizer this would have been a no-contest win for the Y2P.

To do a proper comparison, items that are purely personal preference pieces (size of display, keyboard style etc) should be left out. When this is done, it really is a no brainer. The XPS 11 is hands down the superior machine. This is not to say that one machine will be more compatible or a better match for a particular person based on those personal preference items or perceptions of them. Everyone has a different liking as to what is an ideal display size or keyboard style for them. That is also why many people use a docking station setup so they can use full size keyboards and large 27" screens while working in the office for 8 plus hours. Price difference between the 2 machines is not siginificant and not a consideration if the superior XPS 11 machine has additional value that justifies it to the owner That said, there are other significant core advantages associated with the XPS 11 not mentioned. The XPS 11 uses state of the art NBT Corning Gorilla glass. If you read up on what that means you will see why that is hugh and also why there is additional cost to manufacture with it. The Y2P uses the "U" series processor and not the lower voltage "Y" series used by the XPS 11. The "Y" series is better suited to small form factor ultrabooks and power efficiency. The XPS 11 has a higher display NITS rating of 400. This is at the top of its class and is extremely important for those that may use them in an outdoor mobile activity. The XPS 11 is constructed of carbon fiber and not of the cheaper and much weaker external plastic construction of the Y2P. At 11.6" and 2.5 pounds, the XPS 11 is closer to a comfortable large tablet usage size than a 13" and half pound heavier Y2P. Given the wireless AC standard, it is becoming poor corporate judgement to release a new ultrabook that does not support it. For Lenovo to release an ultrabook that does not support dual band wireless when dual band access points have been in homes for years is completely unacceptable. Same goes with no pen support when the machine is a convertible hybrid. The XPS 11 material comprising the flat keyboard suface grips better when face down than hard plastic buttons. The closer you look at the engineering, design considerations, materials used, the more it becomes clear as to which platform is better built and thought through. Dell has had the luxury of analyzing Lenovo's Yoga build history and has done an incredible job addressing the serious short comings in the Yoga series. That is a significant achievement since the Yoga is still a very good overall machine.

  • Summarizing entries of the Internal table

    Hi All Experts!!
I have problem regarding summarizing of the entries of the internal table.I want the amount field of the entries be summed based on 3  fields of table rkst skst rkstar. It means that summation be carried out if the set of these 3  fields are same.If there is different set new entry will be created.
Here I want to summarize itab gt_yrepost2.
      LOOP AT gt_yrepost2 INTO gwa_yrepost2.
        sum_amount = sum_amount + gwa_yrepost2-amount
be summed for repeating sets of 3 fields*****
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-amount = sum_amount.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-kokrs = gwa_yrepost2-kokrs.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-belnr = gwa_yrepost2-belnr.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-buzei = gwa_yrepost2-buzei.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-kstar = gwa_yrepost2-kstar.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-bukrs = gwa_yrepost2-bukrs.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-pbukrs = gwa_yrepost2-pbukrs.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-tcurr = gwa_yrepost2-tcurr.
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-skst = gwa_yrepost2-skst."field1
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-rkst = gwa_yrepost2-rkst."field2
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-rkstar = gwa_yrepost2-rkstar."field3
          lwa_sum_yrepost2-txt = gwa_yrepost2-txt.
          APPEND lwa_sum_yrepost2 TO gt_sum_yrepost2.
It means that if there is change in set of key fields new entry will be created. Else the entries will be summed to a single entry. In this example gt_sum_yrepost2 contained the summed(summarized) entries.
The positive thing here is that if for one set of these fields the other values will be same.Hence other fields will take value of any of the repeating entries(with repeated set).
    Please help in this regards..
    Thanks in Advance....
    Prabhas.

    Hi Prabhas ,
You could use Collect statement instead of Append.

. . . was wondering: Would you happen to know if, < Adobe CS5 Design Premium > in compatible or incompatible with MS WIN8.1? I bought a new Dell XPS 9530 -- with NO CD drive. I copied my CS5 install disk to a Flash Drive, then ran the "install" on my new computer. I had the ownership S/N, so-o-o-o, CS5 installed and "seems" to respond well. PROBLEM: PhotoShop. The Menu Bar, the Commands, the Tool Bar, the Color Palettes, and etc., etc., are all real small on my display -- I would estimate they are about 1/3 of the normal size. Same problem with Illustrator. I've made all the Screen Resolution and Print-Size settings and nothing remedies the small display. (My working page is fine; it's just the display that is REAL tiny!!) Can you help me? Do you have any suggestions for me to try? Should I re-install from the internet? Am I forced to upgrade my application? I appreciate any comments you might have. Thanks. -- Dennis

There is that pitfall in buying HiDpi laptops for Windows.
Only Photoshop CC 2014 has the option to scale the UI 200% in order to make it usable on these hires screens.
CC and earlier does not have this and Adobe would have to retrofit them. Not likely with older products.

  • How to discuss topics on the wiki?

    Hello all,
New forum/wiki member here. Earlier today I was able to solve another user's problem and, eager to finally be able to contribute something, I added my solution to the wiki. I am aware there is probably a better method to solve the issue, but I found no solution other than mine. My edit has since been flagged for factual accuracy, though I don't know how actually discuss it.
What is the correct procedure at this point?  I know that my solution is probably not ideal and my edit to the wiki could probably use some work - but it is a solution and I could find no other.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm excited to finally contribute instead of just lurk.
    Thanks!

There's a "discussion" tab at the top of every entry where editors can discuss their edits. There's actually a link to the discussion page in the "factual accuracy" box as well. The "history" tab will tell you who flagged your addition as out of date as well, so if there's a delay in that person getting back to you on the discussion page you can contact them directly.
EDIT: Curse you moderators, always on top of things.

From my personal experience, I wouldn't go for an Integrated card. This is one of the most important components for Photoshop, so invest in a decent graphics card (ATI or NVidia). It doesn't have to be a really exepensive one - I have been using ATI Radeon with 256MB of RAM on my Dell Studio for almost two years and it still rocks! (even when I work with 3D in Ps CS5 Extended).
I would also invest in more RAM (this can be added easily - I bought extra 4GB as my Studio came with 3GB).
I wouldn't worry about the processor - I'm on Intel Core 2 Duo - and it works very very well, it's very quick which is very important as I'm training Photoshop.
    I hope this helps.

  • HT1473 I can't find a pull down for authorize my new Dell XPS computer with Windows 8 in the itunes store like support said to

I can't find a pull down at the Itunes store to authorize my new Dell XPS computer with Window 8... according to the support there is supposed to be one... Anybody run into this before?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • For the dell xps 13

For the Dell XPS 13 what are all of the software packages you get when you order it at the bestbuy web sight

I successfully got my XPS 13 to PXE boot to Windows Deployment Services (WDS). It would be similar for SCCM.
    Requirements
BIOS A08 (didn’t test with lower versions)
    Startech.com USB-to-Ethernet dongle part # USB21000S2
Drivers for the right-side USB 3.0 port installed into your WDS boot image (see instructions below). The left-side USB port is USB 2.0 and doesn’t need any drivers.
    Steps to capture an image
Install the drivers for the right-side USB 3.0 port into your WDS boot image
Get the driver from Dell (support.dell.com, enter your Dell service tag, drivers, under Chipset, Fresno Logic xHCI (USB 3.0) Controller or
    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/xps-13-l321x?driverId=R9WKR&osCode=W764&fileId=2998648840&languageCode=en )
Run the driver and choose to “Extract without installing”
I assume you know how to add a driver package to WDS and add it to a boot image.
Plug the dongle into the left-side USB port (doesn’t work in the right port)
Power on the computer, F12, select Network and PXE boot
Plug in the external hard drive into the right-side USB port as the target for the captured image
Then do the usual WDS process to capture the image
This would be almost identical to deploy an image with WDS.

Another think is the card is there and recognized but the led light is not on so the card is not actually turning on and that can be an issue so can not scan for networks or even bring wlan0 up as I get this error.
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
Your help would be greatly appreciated as though I have used Ubuntu and Fedora for years everything worked out of the box so this is new to me. He he breakage I love Arch , learning so much.
