Delta Methods

Hi Guys
I know there are 3 delta methods:
Direct Delta
Queued Delta
Unserialized V3 update
I know the functionalities of each method but can you pls explain me that under what business scenario we need to use each one. I know one method is faster than another but dont have good understanding which method to use when and under which circustances.
Will apprecaite your help

  • Is Downtime necessary for delta methods?

    Hi all,
When we do initialization for full updates or delta initialization, downtime is necessary.
Is downtime necessary for delta updates also? Whenever a document is posted to an application tables, will it come directly to extraction queue, update table or delta queue(depending on delta method we chose)? Or do we need any downtimes?
    Please explain me in detail...
    Thanks.

    Hi Komal,
You require Downtime only during a SETUP run, after the Successful Setup run and initialization in BW, you need to schedule JOBs to run DAILY/HOURLY along with the TYPE of DELTA that is required...Downtime is NOT required after this point.
The jobs scheduled will pick up any deltas and post it to for the BW Delta Queue. The Delta load in BW will then pick the Delta records.
    Cheers,
    Praveen.

  • How to edit copa data source or change delta method.Need t-code/procedure

    Hi gurus,
I have a copa extractor in production. The copa extraction is costing based.
I need to get an extra field from CE1**** table. when i go to KEB0 and display , i see my required field under the chracteristics from segment table. It is unchecked.
I want to know the transaction where i can go and  edit the datasource to check that field and bring that data in.
I tried going to T-code KEDV. But i couldnt figure out what to do there?
I also tried deleting and recreating the datasource, then i am able to check that field. The problem is earlier existing data source used to say,
Delta Method     Time Stamp Management in Profitability Analysis
    now it says
    Delta Method         Generic Delta.
how do i change the delta method from generic delta to Time Stamp Management in Profitbility Analysis. During creation in KEB0 it doesnt give any option to change.
and what exactly is the differnce between both delta methods?
    plz post your inputs.

    Hi Ravi,
I would expect you are communicating to your users that you will need some downtime for you to change this.  To add characteristics to COPA you actually have to first the delete the datasource in KEB0 then re-create the datasource.  I would work with your CO-PA config team to get the T-Codes necessary to assign those objects to PA.
Please reference OSS note 392635 for further reference on your CO-PA timestamp question.  This should answer your questions here.
Pls. assign pts if this helps.

  • Delta method preferable for generic data source

    Hi All,
I'm working on APOBW ,i need to pull primary sale data into apobw .So ABAP er created a program to pick the data from tables vbrp,vbrk,knvv,mara,marc,t179 and populating into a transparent table.I have created a generic data source using that ztable and then loading data to infocube in APOBW.I need to pull data daily twice.I have fields data and time in the Z table.
Please suggest me how to pull the delta data and let me know if DSO is needed in between before loading to Infocube.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
For Enabling Delta, while creating the Generic Datasource you have an option of Enabling it to be Delta capable. Select Generic delta at the top and then you would see 3 options of how you want to get your delta records.
    It is based on
    1) Timestamp
    2) Numeric Pointer
    3) Calendar Day
Depending what you have in your Table, you can select on what your delta would be based.

  • 0FC_BP_ITEMS delta functionality

    Hi,
We are planning to implement datasource 0FC_BP_ITEMS for Open and clear items.
I just wanted to understand how this datasource delta functionality works.
SAP has mentioned how we can implement delta. The process is as below. But didnt mentioned how delta works here.
If you want to use the delta method, you first have to activate it in the Implementation Guide for Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable under Integration Business Intelligence Maintain Central Settings in the clients of the OLTP system.
Can some one help me in understanding how the delta works for this datasource i.e Delta enable field, delta logic and all
    Thaks & Regards,
    Anand

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
In RSA2 i can find whether the datasource is Delta capable or not.
Yes, this datasource is delta capable. But i didnt find the field on which field the delta is ebnables and what is the logic it is using to extract data.
More over SAP mention as below while describing the Datasource 0FC_BP_ITEMS.
If you have a lot of data to initialize in the OLTP system, you can create several InfoPackages with disjointed selections on the field CPUDT to make the delta initialization parallel. The best way would be to start an InfoPackage with the selection of a particular period (for example, 1st of January of the current year until 31.12.9999), so that you can start the delta upload immediately afterwards for all business partner items that were or are created after the start date.
So can we understand the CPUDATE is delta field?? If it is so, what would be the logic in extracting the delta.
    Please advice.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Anand

  • 0FC_BP_ITEMS: ERP customizing and delta mechanism

    Hi BI fans
    I have two questions:
1.) The following link describes how to make the settings for delta enabling of datasource 0FC_BP_ITEMS:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/27/42073e774a4329b6dd6bab21eef613/frameset.htm
    Prerequisites-
"...If you want to use the delta method, you first have to activate it in the Implementation Guide for Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable ->  Integration Business Intelligence -> Maintain Central Settings in the clients of the OLTP system..."
But I cannot find the setting for "Maintain Centrall Settings" in the implementation guide!
    Any idea from your side?
What I see are entries for:
Define Fields for the Extraction of Items
Define Grid for Grouping of Items
2.) What is the exact delta logic of this extractor (working through function module)?
Which fields are relevant for the delta logic?
    Thanks
    BEOplanet

    Hi Andrea
First of all I activated the whole content (datasource, BW content, etc.).
Regarding the pseudo-delta on CPUDT I have designed a BEx variable on a DATS 8 time characteristic, e.g. 0NETDUEDATE. It is a BEx variable feeded by a customer exit, you will find a sample coding below. Furthermore an interval variable, mandatory input.
    Screen for BEx variable properties:
Assign this BEx variable into your infopackage for intended use of pseudo-deltas, type OLAP-variable:
The sample coding below gives you an idea about our pseudo-delta mechanism, from 1st. of last month until sy-datum.
Data wa1 like line of e_t_range.
    data d1 type d.
    data fdate type d.
    data fyear type d.
    data ldate type d.
    data fmonth type d.
    case i_vnam.
when 'ZL2MTDY'. "BEx variable on 0NETDUEDATE or any other DATS 8 time characteristic
    d1 = sy-datum.
    fdate = d1 - 31.
    fdate+6(2) = '01'.
    ldate = sy-datum.
    wa1-opt = 'BT'.
    wa1-sign = 'I'.
    wa1-low = fdate.
    wa1-high = ldate.
    append wa1 to e_t_range.

  • Missing V2 records using Unserialized V3 deltas in Logistics

We have been experiencing missing Deltas in our Material Movement transactions feeding BW. This always occurs between 5:30AM and 6:00AM. When we examine the intermediate queues we notice the Deltas are not present in the V2 queue. I have read several articles describing the process by which SAP moves Deltas through its arthitecture in order to get Deltas from ECC all the way to the Delta Queue in BW using the Unserialized V3 update method of extraction. All the articles state very clearly that if the V2 update fails, then the transactions are not going to make it through to the Delta queue - that makes sense.
What none of the articles explain, and what doesn't make sense, is why the V2 updates would fail in the 1st place. So...that is my question - Under what circumstances would the system not complete a V2 update? As a result of messing around with this problem for a couple of weeks and not getting anywhere, we have abandoned the Unserialized V3 Delta process in favor of using the Direct Delta technique. The up side is we will be getting all the Deltas into BW. The down side is that we have not solved our problem - we've only circumvented it, and the next time we attempt to implement the Unserialized V3 update technique, we most likely will go through a similar period of frustration.
I'm NOT looking for info on "where to look". I'm looking for "concepts" - whiy would a V2 udpate fail? If I know the answer to that question, then the answer to "where to look" should be obvious.
Thanks in advance for someone's help.

    Hello,
Here are some useful tips (in my opinion) to this problem:
    - Refer to transaction SM13 to view the 'V2' requests which aren't made into 'V3' Queue. Choose the status option 'V2 Executed', user as '*"  and select the appropriate time. This transaction would provide all the V2 requests which wern't updated. It's also possible to re-post the failed updates using the "Repeat update" option
    - Normally there will be a dump recorded to respective failed update and this can be check using the transaction ST22. If you analyze the problem then you might be able to find the root cause of this failure.
We are using the 'Queued' delta method for application '03' and this method is working fine and never missed any documents. May be it's worth checking this update method.
Hope the above tips will help you.
    Cheers

  • 0crm_mktattr_attr - delta only once per day possible?

    Hi all,
we want to use delta functionality for 0crm_mktattr_attr. The problem is, that only once a day the delta for a business partner is beeing transfered to the bw. If you have done another change on the same business partner, no delta is being generated (neither that day nor the next day - so this change is lost). If we change another business partner, a new delta is created (if the business partner was not changed before the first delta. Is there any other setting we have to do to transfer get each change?
We're using CRM 7.01 SP07, BW 7.0. 0crm_mktattr_attr is already set to Delta-method AIE, changepointers (general) are activated and changepointers for message type RS0026 are also activated.
    Regards,
    Florian

    Hi Florian,
    Any solution for this problem?
I also need to load data 0CRM_MKTATTR_ATTR and I´m not sure which change pointer I have to activate. For the INITIAL data load into SAP CRM, we deactivate the Change Pointer RS0027 as SAP oriented.
If I set it back, will this Datasource be Delta enabled?
    Thanks

  • Where to find deltas in generic extraction

    hi experts,
could you please explain me tcodes which are used to find the delta data while we go for generic extraction. Also can anyone explain me the full process of extracting the data using
    infoset query and function module.
    Cheers,
    Pragya.

    Hi
You can define delta's in generic using " calendr day, numeric pointer, time stamp."
    Generic Delta
If a field exists in the extract structure of a DataSource that contains values which increase monotonously over time, you can define delta capability for this DataSource. If such a delta-relevant field exists in the extract structure, such as a timestamp, the system determines the data volume transferred in the delta method by comparing the maximum value transferred with the last load with the amount of data that has since entered the system.  Only the data that has newly arrived is transferred.
To get the delta, generic delta management translates the update mode into a selection criterion. The selection of the request is enhanced with an interval for the delta-relevant field. The lower limit of the interval is known from the previous extraction. The upper limit is taken from the current value, such as the timestamp or the time of extraction. You can use security intervals to ensure that all data is taken into consideration in the extractions. After the data request was transferred to the extractor, and the data was extracted, the extractor then informs generic delta management that the pointer can be set to the upper limit of the previously returned interval.
The delta for generic DataSources cannot be used with a BW system release prior to 3.0. In older SAP BW releases, the system does not replicate DataSources for master data and texts that were made delta-enabled using the delta for generic DataSources.
Determining the Generic Delta for a DataSource
           1.      Choose Generic Delta.
           2.      In the subsequent dialog box, specify the delta-determining field and the type for this field.
           3.      Maintain the settings for the generic delta:
                                a.      Specify a security interval.
The purpose of a security interval is to make the system take into consideration records that appear during the extraction process but which remain unextracted (since they have yet to be saved) during the next extraction.
You have the option of adding a security interval to the upper limit/lower limit of the interval.
A security interval should only be specified for the lower limit when the delta method results in a new status for changed records, in other words, when the status is overwritten in BW. In this case, duplicate data records that could arise in such a safety interval have no affect on BW.
                                b.      Choose the delta type for the data to be extracted.
The delta type is used to determine how extracted data is interpreted in BW and which data targets in which it can be posted.
With the delta type additive delta, the record to be loaded for summarizable key figures only returns the change to the key figure. The extracted data is added in BW. DataSources with this delta type can supply both ODS objects and InfoCubes with data.
With the delta type New Status for Changed Records, every record to be loaded returns the new status for all key figures and characteristics. The values are overwritten in BW. DataSources with this delta type can write the data into ODS objects and master data tables.
           4.      Save your entries.
Delta transfer is now possible for this DataSource.
After generating the DataSource, you can see this from the marking for the field Delta Update on the DataSource: Customer Version screen.
In systems from release 4.0B, you can display the current value of the delta-relevant field in the delta queue.
Example for Determining the Selection Interval for a Generic Delta
    Safety Interval Upper Limit
The delta-relevant field is a timestamp.
The timestamp that was read last is 12:00:00. Delta extraction begins at 12:30:00. The safety interval for the upper limit is 120 seconds. The safety interval for the delta request is: 12:00:00 to 12:28:00. Upon completion of the extraction, the pointer is set to 12:28:00.
    Safety Interval Lower Limit
The delta-relevant field is a timestamp. After images are transferred. In other words, the record is overwritten with the status after the change in BW, for example for master data. Any duplicate records that appear have no effect upon the BW system.
The last changed timestamp is 12:28:00. Delta extraction begins at 13:00. The safety interval for the lower limit is 180secs. The safety interval for the delta request is: 12:25:00 to 13:00:00. Upon completion of the extraction, the pointer is set to 13:00:00.

  • Doubts reg Delta

    GM All,
I've seen several posts regarding delta's in the forum but coulnt get a clear picture..my doubt is:
    With respect to V3:
1.Once initialization is done does delts gets into delta  queue automatically or does we need to run an IP?
2.when we run an IP for delta does the data be fetched from delta queue i.e RSA7 in R/3?
3.Is there any queued delta which comesinto picture before deltaqueue(RSA7) if so what's the use?
    Plzzzzz clarify..
    Madhavi

    Hi Madhavi,
    1Ans:
When ever you done the initial Load then delta will enable automatically at BW side and also you can check at RSA7. then we can do delta loads
    2Ans:
Yes, delta record come from RSA7
    3Ans:
    Yes,
in LO Cockpit here delta methods are 3 types
1 Direct delta : delta records directly comes into RSA7.
2 serialized delta : delta records comes into SM13 and than thru V3 Job, records come into RSA7.
3 queued delta : Delta records comes into LBWQ than into RSA7 thru V3 Job
I think u may get an idea about your questions.
Let me know if you have any doubts.

  • Delta for Generic data source.

    Hi,
I have created a generic data source for which I have taken the change data as generic delta in CRM4.0.  But the problem is delta is not getting initiated.   like we are not getting any records in delta.  Kindly guide me what else i have to do to get this delta
