Demand Planning  Ramadan Calender Year

Hi Gurus,
A  in forecasting of Demand Planning, The scenario is,
Every year the calender year(Ramadan) is dropping by 11 days followed by the lunsr calender year and the peak sales calculation has to truncate with the existing and future year, How we can predict this.
Please let me know the solution and also let me know if any information needed.
Regards,
Rajan

Hi Rajan,
We follow the fiscal year calender for the same. And this we will define in advance.
Check the OB29 Tcode, infact this can be updated from R/3 also, if you are maintaing the same in R/3.
For sure, the APO fiscal year should always be in line  with R/3, i suggest take the finanace experts support, they are more familier with the fiscal year calender.

  • Loading Demand plan data from APO to BW

    Hi Gurus,
    We have requirement as below.
we have to extract two key figures from APO to BW system
The 2key figures of APO will get data as below:
First key figure has to hold Yearly snap shot and 2nd Key figure has to hold QTY snapshot.
we have constrained production plan & sales plan keyfigures in apo demand planning and the requirement is to extract these 2 keyfigure quaintest into BI.
    Data Example as below:
    KF1: Yearly snapshot
    KF2: Quarterly snapshots
Yearly  data means from   Jan to Dec  and
    Quaterly data is as below
Qtr1 - Dec       JAN to Dec
Qtr2 (in FEB) - Mar to Dec
Qtr3 (in May) - Jun to Dec
Qtr4 (in Aug) - Sep to Dec
so please let me know to how to handle or extract these data into BW.
    Thanks,
    Shailaja

    Hi Venkat,
Yes, both the key figures are ther in the same planning area.
But my question here is how to get that data into BW? meaning...
If APO/DP does the planning  in the month of Sep 2010 for Jan to dec 2011 and the
    values are like
Sep-10   jan      Feb  mar   april  may  june  july  aug  sep  oct   nov  dec
                   15     14     13      11    10     11     12     16    14         15   22     20
    Dec-10   12     14   16        18    29     20    18     15   14    12   17        20
    Mar-11          10  12   13       14     15   16    17  18         20
    Jul-11                                  20       40     30      40       50
meaning, If the planning is done in the month of Sep 2010 for the yr 2011 as explained above that values should be extracted into BW and the next planning will be done in the month of Dec 2010 again for entire yr of 2011 i.e. Jan 2011 to Dec2011.
But the values should be captured as they are.. that means if i use DSO the values from request1  to request2 will be over written n if i use the cube they will be added up..
Request1 will hold data of Sep2010: planning data
Request2 wil hold Dec 2010 data ....n req3 will hold data of Mar 11...
but users want to see the values or planning figures as they are.
Hope i made my requimrent more detailled.
Please let me know the solution to get the data as it is in BW.
    Thanks,
    Shailaja

  • Demand Planning: How to create a forecast in ODP

Our client is using Oracle Financials OM etc however it currently uses a separate tool for forecasting. We are planning to start forecasting in Oracle Demand Planning.
Following is the simplified calculation for forecasting, how can this be done in ODP:
Calculation is done for item type, 2 calculations are done for every month (X and Y changes every month):
    JAN:
    1. A= X% of Jan sales
    2. B= Y% of last year sales
The forecast should pick greatest number among A and B (it should not pick A+B).
Is this possible in ODP, how to setup the forecast and its calculations.
    Thanks in advance.

You could do this in ODP using the absolute value function and some formula measures.
I assume you are familiar with formula measures in ODP and hence I will focus only on the math behind the formula measures. I am ignoring the percentage aspect that can be easily achieved using formula measure capabilities.
The result set that you want is the following:
    if X > Y return X else Y
    Formula measure 1 = FM1 = X + Y
    Formula measure 2 = FM2 = = |X - Y| (absolute value)
    Formula measure 3 = (FM1 + FM2) / 2
    How does this work?
    |X - Y|
    returns Y - X if Y > X
    returns X - Y if X > Y
if X > Y then the result is
    (X + Y + X - Y)/2 = X
if X < Y, then the result is
    (X + Y + Y - X)/2 = Y
This will give you the results you want.
Note: the formula measures apply at all levels of the hierarchy and is not the aggregation from the lowest levels.
Please be careful and validate this solution against your total set of requirements.

  • APO Demand Planning in Weekly bucket with customized definition

    Hi
I would be performing Demand Planning on a weekly bucket. Week starts from Saturday and Ends on Friday. The Planning will be performed for the six future month.
Can anyone suggest, how it can be done and If Fiscal Year Variant has to be used, then what will be the definition of the variant.
The financial year is from 1st jan to 31st Dec
    Looking forward to a solution.
    Regards,
    Anoop

You can define a fiscal year variant with 52 weeks and specify the last day as a friday in every period...
To carry out planning for 6 future months only..you may define a Time bucket profile for 6 months and use this in the dataview definition.Use the above fiscal year variant in this Time bucket profile

  • Advantages of Implementing Demand Planning in APO

    Hi All:
One of our company's business units is exploring the possibility of implementing their Demand Planning in APO. Since their business closely resembles retail, they do not run MRP in ECC to replenish.  Instead they do Kanban for replenishment.  Hence they do not need Independent requirement in ECC.
The as-is forecast model is a simple spreadsheet that they use that is used for financial forecasting.  They have a lots of SKUs and with spreadsheet aggregation and disaggregation is a night mare.  Hence they have products sitting in their inventory, worth millions of dollars that has not been sold yet for a year.  In essense the top-level forecast data has too many errors.  They also use this to forecast how much of components they have to procure.  Again, they have millions of dollars work of components sitting in our inventory.
So, they are looking to implement their DP in some other software.  Since we have APO, APO could be a choice.  But we have to justify the cost involved.
They will not need APO to send back IR back to ECC.
Followiing are the benefits we see:
    1.  Highly integrated with ECC and hence forecasting will be based on their Sales and invoice history.
    2.  Since their products are seasonal, APO can offer advanced forecast methods to forecast SKUs as accurately as possible.
    3.  Ease of use.
    4.  Right now, the spreadsheet is accessible to one user at a time and been shared thru emails.  This will change with APO
    5.  They could use DP-BOM to forecast component and help reduce components inventory
    6.  An integrated system that will sent forecast to CO-PA on a monthly basis.
Can you guys help me with anything else that will benefit the business?  Any input will be of great benefit.

    Hi,
before to begin: I don't really understand what you are saying: you say the forecast is not use for planning, however your think it is the cause of overstock... how can that be?
I understand the logic for componenents, but not for finish good here
    Anyway, regarding your questions:
Of course DP will help you too, and the benefits you emntioned are good.
However I suggest you to do a bigger analysis of your business needs... it looks ot me that you will need more than DP.
You could use SNP to plan your finish good and components (or use a strategy such as planning at assembly level).
If your biggest challenges in inventory level then SNP is the tool that will give you a better visibility here.
I personnally think that DP BOM should be use only is specific cases. You better have to plan your component in SNP, which will be far more flexible.
In one sentence, I think that if you do decide for a DP implementation now, you biggest benefit should be: later on you will be able to use SNP for planning.
Well that is what I think....
    Good luck for your challenges!
    Julien

  • Using the Demand Planning functionality in TEM

    Good  afternoon
I have been trying to use (in our test client) the Demand Planning functionality of TEM, I am wanting to create demand based on last year's bookings however I get no results. I have courses, which are firmly booked with attendees on them in last year. Is there a minimum number of courses and/or attendees required before a demand can be created? What am I missing?
    Many thanks
    Dawn

    Hi Dawn,
    Try this:
Run the demand planning report using either S_AHR_61016220 or PSV2. Choose the event type which you want to create demand for, or if you have used PSV2 that is already defaulted. If the location is mandatory then put that in and run the report for the year 2010 (with all or the specified quarters checked). If you are running this for the first time, then you should get a screen which says No demand exists. Click on the name of the event type such that it is highlighted (where the cursor is on the name of the event type). Click on the Plan button (F5) and then click on the Plan button button again (F5). This should give you the various options of prebookings or bookings from the previous yea. Select the one you want, and it should determine the demand which you will transfer and save.
    Regards,
    Priya.

  • "non assigned" value for Calender year quarter not possible

All of us know that we can not assign "#" value to calender year quarter.
In my planning level (which is a part of multi planning area consinsting 2 cubes, Actual COPA cube and Plan COPA cube), I want to copy data from Actual copa cube to plan copa cube using planning function of formula type, but actual copa cube is not getting populated against calyear quarter.
I want to retain calyearquarter as a characteristic in my level as it is acting as a key to  my plan data. What shoould be done in such a scenario?

    santoshkumar,
I would suggest you build a characateristic relationship exit on calendar year quarter, probably based on fiscal year period or 0calmonth..  Make sure you leave Calendar year quarter out of your planning level in the copy so it would derive it.
    Hope this helps,
    Mary.

  • Oracle Demand Planning or Demantra?

It seems fairly obvious that if you are starting out an implementation (or even part way through), you would cease implementing Oracle Demand Planning (ODP) and implement Demantra. I have read that all development work was ceased on ODP (even though some new features have been implemented in ODP R12). Further, I have read that there is no simple migration path from ODP to Demantra (due to the very different data structures).
    My questions:
    1. Do you agree with my comment about ceasing the implementation of ODP and resuming with ODP, and if not, why not?
    2. Is there any known migration path between the two products that is supported by Oracle or is a completely new implementation needed?
    3. What are the comparative costs of the two products?
    4. What are the technology stack requirements of the two products? (particulary of Demantra).
    Thanks, as always.

with regards to point 1... demantra is a better tool; it will create better forecast numbers and will provide a much more sophisticated end user experience. however the answer to your question is not always an obvious one.
firstly lets talk about finance and schedule. ceasing an implementation that is costing a large sum of money in favour of a newer product may not be the right course of action. budget alarm bells will start ringing since the delivery schedule will now be off the chart and the costs will only go up. is the implementation required to fix legacy system and data problems? if so there will be groans from the people that need the forecast numbers when they hear that the current inaccuracy will continue because some fabled "even better numbers" will be available somewhat later than promised.
what about stability? odp has it's fair share of problems but it is still much more robust than oracle demantra and depending on factors such as company size, structure, product life-cycle, forecast horizon and methodology demantra may not even provide a better solution. an r12 implementation of odp would survive for a number of years before requiring an upgrade and by then newer and better versions of oracle demantra will be available. there are a lot of customers still using odp and oracle will continue to support them.
don't forget the bigger picture and plan for the future. planning and forecasting solutions need to be flexible - whatever solution you use you should expect that it will need to evolve and part of that evolution should be a product migration. if the planners that are expected to use the new tools and process are not yet skilled at forecasting (maybe they just manipulate numbers in excel based upon weekly meetings?) then the basic approach to skills development might be as follows: start simple, then develop a more sophisticated approach and finally create a sophisticated forecasting solution (this pathway could take years). if you don't yet know the medium or advanced strategy then how can you possibly know which tool is best suited? start simple with odp knowing that in two years when you will want to move to a more advanced forecasting approach your users will understand what they want. at that point you can decide whether to stick or twist.
as for the other questions: 2 is a no. 3 & 4: don't know (sorry)
good luck and let us know what you decide.

  • Not able to Upload data in Demand Planning data view

    Hi
I am trying to upload a csv  file in to Demand planning interactive planning through " Upload Data " functionality
First I exported data from interactive planning , updated some data in file and again trying to upload same file.
    I am getting following error
    File cannot be uploaded
    Message no. /SAPAPO/SDP_UPLOAD009
    Diagnosis
File  has no technical information or incorrect technical information.
    Procedure
Save the file again locally. Make sure that the file has the technical information.
Could u please suggest what needs to be done
    Thanks and regards,
    Nitin Lavhe

    Hello,
For using the upload data functionality from interactive planning grid, you need to first download the data. While downloading the data, please check the check box for "Prepare the file for upload at later time", and then select the option of putting the technical setting into the file or into the system. Either way is okay. Then try uploading the same file.
    This should solve your problem.
    Thank you.

  • Business Process: Final Demand Plan Key Figure in the past for APO DP

    Hello APO process experts,
I have a BPX question for APO DP process owners, consultants or gurus:
1.- Have you ever seen in any SAP APO customer, that in their APO DP planning books, they chose or designed to update the Final Demand Plan key Figure in the past closed historical buckets with the Actual Sales?
Meaning that that in the Past closed historical Buckets, Actual Sales and Final Demand Plan, look exactily the same.
Meaning that they create a dynamic Final Demand Plan key figure so to speak, yet they did not choose to create a key figure that also keeps the Final Demand Plan as originally entered.
2.- Would you think that doing the above, without keeping any keyfigure in the planning book that actually shows what the Final Demand Plan was in the Past, is a good practice?
The Demand Planner could still retreive the Final Demand Plan from BI reports, yet, dynamically they could never really see it in the planning book.
3.- Do you think the above dynamic key figure would bias the Demand Planner's behaviour to manipulate the future open Final Demand Plan buckets to enter volumes in order sum to a monthly total, independently of what were the over and underachievements in the past (since they are not really visible to him) ?
I would really like your feedback,
    thanks in advance!
    JD Loera

    Hello Thanks for your feedback.
I agree with your point, and I hope that i still get more feedback from other Business Process Experts.
I am trying to build a case for my client, to challenge the decision of their initial design as this practice is going to hurt the Demand Management process, if what they intend to achieve is a true "unconstrained demand plan"
    Much appreciated

  • Balance Sheet or trail balance in Calender year

    Dear Friend,
In Configuration in company code   fiscal year variant  is April to March.
The requirement is to get balance sheet and trail balance in calender year wise.
Can it possible to get above report in SAP standard  ?
    Please give your suggestion.
    Warm Regards,
    Nrusingha

    Dear,
Yes dear it is possible in standard SAP.
If you have activated New G/L functionality then use Non Leading ledger to meet this requirement.
If you have not activated New G/L functionality then use Special Purpose Ledger.
You will have to create fiscal year variant for Jan-Dec and assign it to any of above ledger whichever you use.
    Regards,
    Chintan Joshi.

  • What is best practice to do APO Demand planning

    Hi,
My client wants to implement demand planning.
Client has come up with one scenario like a New Customer is created in ECC, and if I use BI and then APO flow  ( ECC -> BI -> APO-BI) for Demand planning, user will have to wait for another day. (AS BI is always having one day delay).
For this scenarios user is insisting on ECC and APO-DP interface.
Will anybody suggest what should be the best practice for Demand planning.
ECC -> Standalone BI -> Planning area (Planning is done in APO) -> Stand alone BI
Or ECC -> APO-DP (Planning is done in APO) -> Standalone BI system
I hope I am able to explain my scenario.
    Regards,
    ST

    Hi Sujoy,
    Thanks for reply.
    (1) I have to get Sales Order data from ECC into BI standalone system Cube.
    (2) Then from this cube same data is sent to SCM APO - BI Cube.
    (3) Planning will be done in SCM APO.
    (4) Planned data is again sent to BI standalone system, Using datamart on Planned area.
    (5) In BI we will have reporting on cube, which has ECC sales order data and APO Planned data.
But in this case, there is always delay between data loads (firstly ECC -> BI, then BI -> APO, then APO -> BI).
In this case, if a new customer is created, Client wants to see demand planning in  latest data.
How do we do APO DP generally?
Do we follow the route from BI, or directly between ECC and APO..
Hope I am able to explain the scenario..
