Demantra Engine Virtualization

Hello,
I am on Demantra 7.3.1.2 in a Production environment. I am concerned about virtualization of the Demantra instances. I remember there was some concern regarding engine execution in a virtualized system. Is this still a concern or is it supported at this time,
We are running the engine in Linux.
Thanks for your help.

Demantra does support VM (Oracle Virtual Machine), however, Oracle does not support VMWARE at this time.

    Hi
Can you please check existing live DB sessions that are targeting the same DB user?
In case another person is using the same DB user as you, and started his Engine Manager, you'll get this error.
Please verify if there are other sessions open and kill them, if so

If that specific patch is causing a conflict with CU7 or Rules Engine Update Service, the best option would be to LOG a case with Microsoft and let them either fix it or provide a justification of why that specific Windows Patch is not a good idea (file
an exemption in case of later with the customer/security team).

  • Demantra: How to submit Simulation Engine with different profiles?

    Background
    =========
We want to submit Simulation engines but give the user the flexibility to use different engine profiles. Since our FCST Engine is on the Wintel box and our OC4J on a Solaris box we really do not have an easy way to do this. As best as I can tell there is no direct way of kicking off the Simulation engine from within the Workflow environment in this multi-platform environment.
OK, so that's the limitation, but is there some other way that we have yet to discover?
Again, we are not looking for a one-time-start of the Simulation engine on the Wintel box with a pre-set profile, rather, we want the user to have the flexibility of selecting a particular profile.
I suppose a follow-up to this is: once the said engine is kicked off, is there a command line way to terminate the process and I'm not talking of a 'kill' equivalent, rather I'm looking for a Demantra supported functionality?
    Thanks!

If all the numerous user profiles are yours, just sign in with the relevant passwords. If they are not then you shouldn't be using the media anyway...

  • How to install Demantra on 64-bit machine so that all components work?!!

I'm using 64-bit windows 7. I first installed Oracle DB 10.2.0.4 x64, then Demantra 7.3 x64. Some component of Demantra didn't work, wouldn't open giving me the following error "Can't connect to database Oracle library OCI.dll or ORA803.dll couldn't be loaded". Only then I read official installation notes for Demantra which say:
You can run Oracle Demantra on either a 32-bit or 64-bit Oracle database. However, the Oracle Demantra Installer and these applications run in 32-bit mode, so you must use the 32-bit Oracle database client to install Oracle Demantra and use these applications:
    * Business Modeler
    * Member Management
    * Chaining Management
    * Oracle Demantra forecasting engine
How do I "use the 32-bit Oracle database client to install Oracle Demantra"? Give me a bit more detailed answer if you can, as I'm not an expert. Thank you.

    Hi Milind,
Unfortunately, I don't have Oracle SID and access to metalink. We're about to get into contractual agreement, but it's still in the workings. My original problem was solved by way of using virtual machine (32 XP) on top of Windows 7 64. However there are other issues standing in the way of our training. Do you know whether 7.3.0.1 has seeded demo data? (7.2 had it, and 7.3.0 didn't). Desperately need to a big nice rich dataset for 7.3. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dennis,
All those Layer 2 extension technologies require STP to be extended between Data Centers if you need to have multiple paths between Data Centers. OTV does not extend STP rather it has its own mechanism (AED election) to avoid loop when multiple paths are enabled. It means any STP control plane issue, we don't carry to the other Data Center.
OTV natively suppresses Unknown Unicast Flooding across the OTV overlay. Unknown unicast flooding is a painful problem in layer 2 network and difficult to troubleshoot to identify the root cause if you don't have proper network monitoring tool.
It has ARP optimization which eliminates flooding ARP packets across Data Center by responding locally with cached ARP messages. One of the common issues I have seen in Data Center is some server or device in the network sends continuous ARP packets which hits Control plane in the Aggregation layer which in turn causes network connectivity issue.
The above three points proves the Layer 2 domain isolation between data centers. If you have redundant Data Centers with Layer 2 extended without OTV, the above explained layer 2 issue which happens in one Data Center carries the same failure to the second data center which creates the question of what is the point of having two different Data Centers if we can not isolate the failure domain.
OTV natively supports HSRP localization with few command lines. This is a very important requirement in building Active/Active Data Center.
Even though your question is related to L2TP, OTV deserves the comparison with VPLS and those comparison will also be applicable for L2TP. The below link explains in detail...

  • Error while running Simulation Engine in Windows Vista

    Hi All,

Warning failed to create engine monitor - Class not registered.
Can anyone pls help me out with this.

    Hello Ruby,
it's the right id, but the note isn't published (anymore). Below are the details.
    best regards
    Geert
    Goal
Q1: When attempting to start Simulation Engine, getting "WARNING Failed to create engine monitor.
HRESULT=0x8004154 - Class not registered." EngineManager continues to run until "Executing the
shell...", after which it gets another error "ERROR Could not create callback COM object!
    HRESULT=0x8004154 - Class not registered."
Users attempted to uninstall/reinstall but still have the same issue. How can this be fixed
Q2: Another question is, can these components be registered on an XP SP2 machine with IE 7 (Internet Explorer Version 7)?
    Solution
A1: Please review the above information from the Demantra Analytical_Engine.pdf and see if it resolves
the problem - especially the information on pg 3, 46, and 50 regarding registering the analyical engine
manually. To save time, this information is posted below:
Demantra Analytical_Engine.pdf - states the following on pg 3:
    Engine Modes
The Analytical Engine can run in two modes: batch and simulation.
    • In batch mode, the Analytical Engine considers all the item-location
combinations and generates a forecast for all of them (with a few exceptions,
noted in the next chapter). In a typical implementation, the engine automatically
runs in batch mode regularly, perhaps after new data is imported.
    • In simulation mode, the Analytical Engine considers only a subset of the
combinations. In this mode, the engine (called the Simulation Engine) waits for
simulation requests and then processes them.
In simulation mode, a user runs a worksheet and submits a simulation request for
some or all of the combinations in it. The simulation request is processed in the
background but generally fairly soon. When the simulation is done, Demantra
Spectrum alerts the user, who can then accept or reject the results.
In this mode, the user is usually performing a “what if” analysis. That is, he or she
has made some changes within the worksheet and then performs the simulation to
see whether those changes have the desired effect.
It is also possible to run simulations programmatically from within a workflow.
The Analytical Engine can run in only one mode at a time.
Demantra Analytical_Engine.pdf - states the following on pg 46:
    Registering the Analytical Engine
The installer registers the Analytical Engine for you, but in case of problems, you can
register the engine manually. To do so, run the batch file Demantra_root/Demand
    Planner/Analytical Engines/bin\RegEngine.bat.
If you have a license for the Distributed Engine, you can run the engine on multiple
machines. You do not need to install it on every machine; you need only to register it
on them. These machines must also be running the appropriate database client
software, so that they can communicate with the Demantra Spectrum database.
For information on choosing the machines to run the engine, see “Choosing Machines
to Run the Engine” on page 50.
Demantra Analytical_Engine.pdf - states the following on pg 50:
Choosing Machines to Run the Engine
If you have a license for the Distributed Engine, you can run the engine on multiple
machines; see “Registering the Analytical Engine” on page 46. If you do not have a
license for the Distributed Engine, Demantra Spectrum runs the Analytical Engine on
    only one machine.
To choose the machines to run the engine
    1. Click the button next to the Selected computers field, shown here.
The Engine Administrator displays the following screen - screen shot cannot be pasted in ITS
The left list shows the machines on which the Analytical Engine has been
installed. The right list shows the machines where the Analytical Engine will run.
    2. Click the arrow buttons to move machine names to and from the right list.
    3. Click OK.
A2: The Installation_Guide.pdf on pg 1 - 2 states that browsers should be Internet Explorer Version 5.5 or higher. But if version 7 does not appear to work properly for registering purposes, then use IE 6

  • Bootcamp With Windows 8.1 Virtualization Issues On Start

    Hi All
Ive just purchased a new 13 inch MBP Retina with 8GB Ram
I am a Microsoft Developer, specialising in mobile, so I installed Windows 8.1 on bootcamp, and am using windows this way 2/3rd of the time (I also use my MBP for OSX a third of the time)
When I go into Mac system preferences and restart as bootcamp, my Mac restarts in Windows with virtualization enabled, which is essential as I am running Visual Studio's dev tools including Windows Phone Emulators.
If I've booted into Windows via bootcamp (virtualization is enabled) and then do a restart in Windows, the virtualization is still enabled - great!
However, if I hibernate my Mac while in Windows, or shutdown windows (which is a form of OS hibernation with Windows 8), and then restart,  the virtualization is disabled, and my emulators will no longer spin up.
I have tried restarting windows via the bootcamp control panel in Windows, but that doesnt fix it.
The only way to get windows running with virtualization on is to boot into windows via the bootcamp option in Mac preferences - EVERY TIME, so I am stuck with doing the following every time I want to use my mac for windows development:
    1) startup in windows
    2) Using Bootcamp control panel restart OSX
    3) In mac system preferences retart Bootcamp
    4) start Visual Studio and emulators
Surely there must be a way of getting this to work seemlessly

    Folks,
If you scratch beneath the shallow Apple support surface, you'll find out that this issue has been around since 2008 (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=821551).
There's nothing wrong with Windows, and your hardware (Intel CPU that is) support virtualization. What Apple support doesn't tell you is that engineering has a bug with firmware that causes this. There's also a well known workaround, painful but workaround (http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/122071/106730).
What infuriates me is the fact that
    1. Apple support deceives and send people away by claiming there's nothing wrong (read "lies")
    2. Engineering knows about it and does very little to address it properly moving forward (read "ignores")
    3. Consumers that just accept this as-is because it's Apple (read "stupidity")
I'm vocal about it because it is unbelievable. It's 2014 outside, and Apple neither has a basic support tracking mechanism nor is transparent about what it's doing when providing support.

  • IdeaPad Flex 15D no virtualization option in BIOS 94CN07WW (AMD APU A6-5200)

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 15D (AMD APU A6-5200) does not have virtualization option in BIOS version 94CN07WW. What this means is if one wants to run for example Virtualbox, then one would only be able to vitualize a 32-bit operating system, instead of either a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. However, a similar model Lenovo IdeaPad S415 Touch (AMD APU A6-5200) does have the SVM option in the BIOS to enable or disable virtualizing 64-bit operating systems. December 22, 2014 8:00AM CSTWhen I  called Lenovo technical support, I initially spoke with someone who sounded as if they were from the Philippines, which is fine if they are knowledgable, and their english is fluent. Unfortunately, when I explained the technical situation, he had no idea what I was talking about. After he checked with in Level 2 quite few times, he said that the motherboard doesn't support virtualization... So, I advised him that I've been in the IT industry for 10 years, and while admittedly I don't know everything about virtualization, I have some level of knowledge on the subject having worked in all positions from Level 1 Technical Support to Systems Engineer. Hence, I proceeded to explain how virtualization is a dependency of the CPU, not the motherboard. One would of course need to have a motherboard that is compatible with the CPU in order for the computer to work at all. However, one may buy a CPU without virtualization extensions and plug it into a motherboard, or one may buy the same CPU with virtualization extensions and plug it into this same motherboard. As well, I invited him to look at Intel or AMD's website for further information on this while we were on the phone so I could help clear up any questions he had on the matter. While he didn't appear to review either website, he checked in with Level 2 again, and suggested we check forums to see if a work around exists. I quickly explained there is no work around to this type of problem, and the resolution would be to put a request into engineering to have a BIOS update pushed out that allowed enabling/disabling SVM by default. After checking in with Level 2 once again, he said if it's not an option in the BIOS, then the computer doesn't support it. I advised while this statement is something I already knew (not to mention painfully obvious at this point), it's not a technical limitation of the hardware, as the CPU supports it. The root cause is that toggling SVM enabled/disabled wasn't designed in the BIOS (i.e. this needs a BIOS update to come out to fix this problem). We briefly talked about a warranty event, how from my past experiences sometimes when one submits a laptop to a vendor and gets it returned, it comes with a BIOS version that is later than originally submitted, or one that is not available for download from the vendor website. However, he wasn't really for this idea, as I didn't have a hardware fault per-say, and I wasn't interested in insisting one a warranty event as it was frankly a low probability event to have this outcome, and it wasn't what I wanted out of the conversation anyway. So, after he checked in with Level 2 again, he said he can call me back after he investigated some more. I advised him that a call back is useless if he is the one calling me back as we already know the problem, resolution, and who would need to address it. After he began to stutter, and make incomplete sentences that made no sense, he put me on hold to check in with Level 2 again (yes he checked in with them this many times). When he came back he claimed I said earlier in the conversation that the option to enable it was available so I should just go ahead and do that. Given that this guy frankly didn't know what I was talking about to begin wtih, and now is telling me something that never even happened in the conversation, I pretty much had enough of the lack of knowledge, and customer service I was receiving, so I asked to speak to either a supervisor or the next level of support. Thankfully he transferred me to his supervisor, who sounded like he wasn't from an outsourced call center, as when I explained the situation he understood me the first time, and spoke clear and articulate english. After a very brief discussion about what he was reading from Lenovo forums and a BBB complaint similar to my inquiry, we came to the conclusion that it would need to be a customer courtesy request to the engineering department to request the SVM option become available via a BIOS update. So, with my case number in hand, I said despite him not being able to promise me the outcome I desired, he at least got the issue in front of the right people, which I appreciated. Long story short, it would be just simply really awesome if Lenovo could push out a Happy Holidays BIOS update that would allow me to enable SVM on my IdeaPad Flex 15D.  Thanks for reading.

I came across this issue a while back also. However, with the quickly-approaching release of Windows 10, there's another problem that I consider far more important (it is also related to the BIOS, go figure). There is no way to enable/disable Execute Disable Bit in the BIOS. Due to this, I have been unable to upgrade to the Windows 10 Insider Preview, and I fear that this will be the same case with the final release. This issue apparently affects lots of others as well. It is interesting to note that the Flex 15D drivers page no longer says that a BIOS update is not available for the laptop... It doesn't give any info about the BIOS. Get with it, Lenovo!

  • Demantra Workflow Problems

I am having difficulty getting the workflow for the Engine Manager.exe run properly. The web application is on a Linux server and Demantra apps is on a Windows 2003 server. I use an SSH connection between the two server and can actually launch the engine successfully but it won't complete. I get the following errors:
ERROR Could not marshall callback interface! HRESULT=0x80070005 - Access is denied.
15:38:34:190 ERROR Failed to get branch ID. HRESULT=0x80070005 - Access is denied.
It seems like some kind of permission issue on the apps server (Win 2003)?
In short, enginemanager.exe works when you ssh in to APPSDEM01 (Win 2003) from APPSPLN01 (Linux) only if you supply the password for the ‘oracle’ account when it asks for it. If you set up APPSPLN01 to be able to ssh into APPSDEM01 without a password, then process fails. I do not know what rights may need to be assigned on APPSDEM01.
PS - I have an open SR (7272166.994) on this issue in Metalink but Oracle has not responded...I think we have them stumped :)

Similar issue/error is reported in [Bug No. 7293185 - DEMANTRA: NEED TO INSTALL SSH AND CREATE USERS IN WINDOWS MACHINES|https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=BUG&p_id=7293185]. You may ask the support analyst to refer to the bug and get the solution as it is not available for public access.

  • How to purge Sales Data in Oracle Demantra

    Hi Demantra experts,
I have one doubt in demantra:
Suppose the user has loaded the historical data say Sales History data in SALES_DATA table.
And after running the Analaytical Engine , forecast has been generated as well.
Later he found that it was a wrong data and now it should be removed.
If the user wants to remoe these records from SALES_DATA table .
What is the process of purging the records?
    Thanks,
    Neeraj.

Thanks a lot for your help.
I checked the metalink note. It deals with removing the data from temporary tables and not the base tables.
The Temprary tables acts like interface tables. We need to populate the records in the respective temp table and run the .bat file
However the record stays in the temp table after the .bat file has loaded the data in base tables.
The suggested metalink note provides script to cleanup the temp tables of demantra.
My requirement is to remove the records from base tables.
    Thanks,
    Neeraj.
