Dent on glass of Retina screen

Hi all,
I have a 3 months old MacBook Pro Retina and recongnized a spot, what I though was a dead pixel.
Looking closer though, I realised that somebody (definately not me!), somehow poked the screen with a pointy item, maybe a pen!
Now I have a little dent in the glass which is so close to the actual panel (screen) that it almost seems like it's 'pressing' the pixel underneath and causing it to glow white on a black background (kinda like a dead pixel).
It could also be, however, that the plastic is refracting the light around the dent? We're talking about a 0.2mm dent here...
Did anyone else come across this? Is the screen really that vulnerable and delicate on a Retina MacBook Pro?
Cheers,
Chris

Really small world. I went to the Apple Store in Germantown, TN with my same issue. Upon telling the Genius I discovered a dead pixel, he made the comment "you must have really good eyes to see something that small." I showed him where it was. He was surprised that he could see it as well. He plugged it up to their Ethernet and ran general diagnostics. Once everything turned out ok, he was again surprised that they had the part (a whole new "clamshell" display) in stock and can replace it free of charge under warranty. I was surprised as well that this could be done in house because these machines are supposedly so difficult to repair. Upon asking about the repair, he stated that it was nothing to the repair at all. He even showed me that all you have to do is remove the bottom and only a few screws hold the top housing in place and it is apparently a really simple repair process. He printed out the workorder for me to sign. I can't imagine this happening after the warranty period, because the cost to replace the screen "clamshell" is $719.68. Needless to say, I will be purchasing AppleCare since I haven't already before the warranty period on my machine is up. I dropped off my machine around 4:00 PM and got an email that it was ready around 8:00 PM. They even called me at 10:00 AM this morning to let me know that it was ready. Upon picking it up, I checked everything out and it appears to be as good as new. No dead pixel anymore! Yay!

  • IPhone Retina Screen, Digitizer, and Glass Destroyed

    Hi All,
So the sad, simple, and short version of my story is that my iPhone 4 was run over by a car last night.  As you can imagine, it is not in pretty shape.  The glass is cracked (so bad that small shards of glass are falling out) and the Retina screen is also destroyed.  By destroyed, I mean that I can see black and white lines on only part of the screen (the rest being either blank or cracked LCD fluid) signifying that the screen is still receiving power, yet no image at all (other than the black and white lines) is shown on the screen.
The phone is still capable of making phone calls, receiving emails, and playing music, but obviosuly I can not see or interact with the phone other than through voice command.
So to the question.  I am fairly handy with electronics and feel that replacing the Retina display, digitizer, and front glass would not be that hard of a task.  However, before I purchase a new screen, I wanted to make sure that the issues I am seeing are merely caused by a busted Retina display and digitizer, and not a broken GPU or other motherboard issues.  Does anyone know how I might be able to confirm this?
Thanks in advance for the help and input.
    Jordan

Verify that the iPhone connects to iTunes correctly. Verify that the battery charges normally. Verify that the Home button functions, use Voice to open an App, make sure it is closed back up by Home button. Verify that Power button works, if you can verify if it wakes from sleep or something. Verify Mute/Vibrate switch works. Verify Volume buttons work. That is all I can think of as a good start. If these all worked I'd be happy.

  • Does anyone else have problems with retina screens? My eyes are constantly hurting and my eyesight is getting worse in a short period of time.

I've been using high quality retina screens for about nine months now and my vision has gone downhill quickly. I got my first ever prescription for eye glasses and my eyes are constantly strained. High resolution screens also cause other problems with my normal work flow as a web designer but that is a whole other topic.

try turning down the brightness, If i even have it past half way my eyes hurt. maybe it'll help

  • Retina Screen Crack

I recently replaced my 15 inch 2010 macbook pro with a new 15inch retina screen macbook pro and the screen has cracked. It has a hard shell cover (by Topideal) AND was inside a Belikin felt and leather soft sleeve. I put it inside my rucksack on my way back from the library, I did not drop it, nothing banged against it and there was nothing inside the bag but books. I treat this thing like a newborn baby and now it has a cracked screen and I don't know why. Has this happened anyone else? Will my warrenty cover it? I genuinely feel like I could cry right now.

Try taking it in to the nearest Apple store and show them how well you've treated it (you have an external case along with the belkin felt/leather sleeve and you had in in your rucksack) and yet the screen still cracked. Maybe it was a defective piece of glass on the screen or some other manufacturing defect. Perhaps Apple keeps a database and knows if other retina macbooks in the same manufacturing lot have an inordinate number of cracked screens. also some apple resellers offer screen breakage coverage for an extra fee (not sure if apple does) - did you purchase it when you got it? Bestbuy does this but not sure who else does. Too late now if you didn't probably, but never hurts to ask.
    Good luck

  • Photoshop CS6 looks pixelated on Mac Retina screen

I have Photoshop CS6 running on a MacBook Pro with a 15" retina screen. By default it runs in low-resolution, which makes everything pixelated. When I right-click on the app and go to "Get Info" I see an option to "Open in Low Resolution". When I uncheck it Photoshop opens in high-resolution and it looks beautiful, but it's unusable: I can't click on any of the tools, the sidebars, or anything. So I bring it back to low-resolution and everything works well, except that it looks pixelated again.
I have the 13.0 update (the latest one) and there aren't any additional updates according to Photoshop.
Is there any way to have Photoshop CS6 run in high-resolution?
    Thank you very much!

Thank you, Gene, but that's exactly what I was trying before and it doesn't work. In my OP I explained what happens when I try that:
When I uncheck it Photoshop opens in high-resolution and it looks beautiful, but it's unusable: I can't click on any of the tools, the sidebars, or anything. So I bring it back to low-resolution and everything works well, except that it looks pixelated again.
When I open Photoshop and go to Help > System Info this is what I see:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Mac OS 10.10.3
It's not 13.0.6. However, when I go to Help > Updates it tells me that all my applications are already up-to-date.
    Any other ideas?

  • Can't open Adobe cs5.5 .dmg on a 15inch MacBook Pro Retina screen

    Hi there,
    Hopefully someone can help.
I recently bought a 15inch retina screen new macbook pro after my old one started to die last week - I bought Adobe cs5.5 a few years ago and I'd really like to be able to install in on the new laptop so I can get on with my work. As there is no disc drive I downloaded the file from Adobe which took many hours and now as soon as I click on it it comes up with this.
I tried to use the disc utility to do something with it but wasn't really sure what I needed to do and buggered up the first download and had to try and get it again. I haven't had this problem with my old laptop - i'd even updated the os to be running the same so I don't know why it's having a problem with the .dmg and as I haven't had the problem before I don't really know what to do. If someone could help me out I'd be super grateful as I do have client work I need to get on with.
    Thanks so much,
    Emilia

Me thinks you have tried to connect to a shortcut folder and not a genuine folder.
Note Mac OS X in Mac OS X 10.4 has 3 popular folder shortcut locations:
The leftmost column of the Finder window.
The horizontal toolbar on the top of the Finder window
The translucent bar which can be anchored on the side or bottom of the screen known as the Dock. These are not true folder locations, but only locations for shortcuts. When you click on a folder for a volume that is not mounted, or is a folder which was deleted it will behave in this fashion. Often if you click on it the right fashion, it will change to a question mark.
In addition if it is an alias to an existing folder that has no contents, it will behave this way from the three shortcut locations.
If you right click instead of the left click a folder, it may think you want to do something to the folder which you can't do. Make sure your mouse button functions properly as a Primary button on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse.
Also make sure Universal Access is not turned on as it too can cause funny behavior in the mouse click actions, in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro Retina screen display pixilated graphics when using the finder?

While this started just after the latest OS X update, each time I use the finder now to locate a graphic to upload, the graphic appears extremely pixelated. It does not matter which application I use to search and upload a graphic file, the graphic appears smaller and bleeds out. I just purchased the new Video Motion Pro video editing software, and every single graphic I upload to this application is pixelated. Has anyone else had any problems with their retina display after the last update?
Here are some examples of hi resolution graphics that now appear pixelated on my Retina screen:
    http://www.screencast.com/t/dlxwi80x
    http://www.screencast.com/t/WhG1h5dBh
If anyone is aware of an application or Apple software test that allows me to check my graphic card and retina display, please advise. I have performed multiple disk utility checks, restarts, etc., but nothing seems to help.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.13 documents and InDesign CS6 looks very blurry on retina screen

I received an upgrade to my Adobe creative suite 5.5 to CS6.
On my macbook pro retina late 2013 15 inch screen, I currently have Adobe CS6 Design Premium, among these apps, I got Adobe acrobat pro, and recently updated my Acrobat Pro to 10.1.13. However, documents in this app have very blurry text.
I also have adobe InDesingn CS6 version 8.0, and text looks blurry on this as well.
are there any updates to these apps so they look ok on my retina screen? or does CS6 not support retina?

    Hi missartist,
Could you please try this out:
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit -> Preferences -> Page Display"
Under Smooth Text label, please select 'For Laptop/LCD screens' and click ok.
Now, check if the text still looks blurry.
    Let me know.

  • Code for image swap of sprite images that works on retina screens (@2x)

    Hello,
I'm having difficulty finding code (javascript, jquery or css) that will successfully swap-out lower-res sprite images for higher-res sprite images "@2x" intended for retina screens. I'm using DWCC/HTML5/CSS3. Can anyone make a recommendation?
    Thanks for your help!

  • How can I take advantage of the Retina screen while programming in JAVA?

I've been writing desktop applications for years on LINUX and MSWindows.
Now, my applications are not aware of my MacBook with Retina screen:
all pictures and measures should be twice as small and sharp.
    Those are not.
    ;JOOP!
P.S.: I installed JAVA 6 JDK from APPLE.

The cables can be found most anywhere.  For cables and adapters I always recommend searching www.monoprice.com first.  They have high quality cables for very good prices.  As an example search for TOSLINK at their site to find optical cables and related components.  It's where I got mine.

  • How do InDesign documents compare on retina and non-retina screens?

I've heard that InDesign looks bad on retina screens, but I don't live near a mac dealer and I can't see any photos anywhere to judge for myself.
Does anyone have any photos which could show how it compares to a non-retina mac?

    Hi Anubha,
I do not understand what you said below.
I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9.5.5. I do not remember whether it came with Photoshop or InDesign.
When I open Photoshop, it opens without my having to follow any instructions to activate the software. As a matter of fact, I cannot find my Photoshop serial number anywhere in the Photoshop program itself. I do know it from my profile at Adobe.com. Are you suggesting I deactivate Photoshop on the new computer and then reactivate it using my serial number? Will it reactivate?
    When you say
"/Library/Application Support/Adobe" at the root level of the startup disk (not the Library folder inside a user's Home folder)
what do you mean? I do not have a startup disk. I have the original installation disk but that version of Photoshop has been updated a few times.
After staring at your instructions for a while, I realized that you might be talking about the Library/Application Support folders resident on my Macintosh HD, although why you called it a startup disk is unclear to me. IAC, I went into those folders and duly moved the three folders into a new folder I called “Acrob1” and restarted Adobe Acrobat 9 and got the following error message: “AMT Subsystem Failure  The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall of call customer support.” with a small (6).
By undoing my actions I am back to the staus quo ante.
    Now what?
    Regards, Robert

  • Photoshop and Retina Screen

I have just bought a Macbook Pro with Retina Screen. When I am using Photoshop on it, it scales my photos down to twice the size. Now I learned that to get the right size of your pictures you will have to make Photoshop open i Low Resolution. But by doing this it (of course) doesn't look as sharp as it would in high resolution. Now my question is whether it is best to make your photos, gifs etc. in the low resolution or in the high/normal one. Does it still save your photos in high resolution when you opened them in low resolution, or will you have to use the high/normal resolution and then edit the pictures when they look much smaller?
Does a Retina Screen effect the quality of your things negatively?

Posting this here, in hope that it helps generate some answers.
I've been combing the web for a solution and nothing in site. I'm on MacBookPro Retina 15" running CS6 13.0.6.
Why can't Adobe PS render at same size as every other program? As a designer, 'lo-res mode' is not an option.
I'm attaching a screenshot of he SAME 480x480 IMAGE in photoshop, chrome and safari.
Can you imagine, as a web designer, how it's hard to work like this? There is no longer the 1:1 ratio that I get from CS6 on my iMac or PC.
Here's a screenshot of the SAME IMAGE on CS6 (at 200%) and Chrome (at 100%)... Pretty close!, but upon close examination, there's pixelation in CS6 side that's not there in the actual image. So, not comfortable with that workflow. I have relied on Photoshop as a pixel-perfect product for ~20yrs... now I can't use it on this machine.
I mean, even when I go to Help > Update ... the PS program's dialogue text is pixelated! Something is very 'off' here. Is this issue fixed in the CC version?
Need some answers, or it's time to look for new options.
    Thanks!
    David
