Dependecy file association - Hyperlink open failure

I have a App-V 4.6 package of Access 2007 with a local installation of Office 2007 Standard. If a user opens a database file with a hyperlink to a xls file the file successfully opens in Excel 2007. If a user ties to open a hyperlink to a xlsx file
they receive a error message 'No program is registered to open this file'. If the user opens the xlsx file from within Excel 2007 the file opens ok.

In your package check the file extension/classes keys in the virtual registry. It might be that one key has 'overwrite' as a property and this way 'hides' locally installed keys.

  • File associations (always open with...) are constantly reverted

    Hi,
This sounds like a minor problem but is a major hassle on every workstation. We want to change file associations for all types like opening all .eps with illustrator instead of Preview.app and many others.
Our Workstations run Lion 10.7.1 and have Network Homes hosted on a Snow Leopard Server. Whenever the user changes the file associations (Get Info... dialogue) this change is reverted after a reboot. Strangely enough the new association is still in place if the user just logs out and back in again. There is no such problem with local users on the machines.
The com.apple.LaunchServices.plist where these settings are stored reflect changes made in the Get-Info dialogue. Upon reboot the Finder seems to ignore this settings file although it stays unchanged!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

You should have used the unistaller rather than delete.
    Try this may work.
Start >> Control Panel >> Double-click Default Programs.
    Click Associate A File Type.
    Select .ai from the list.
    Click Change Program.
If your desired version of Illustrator is listed, choose, it. Otherwise, click Browse to locate it and click Open.
Ensure the "Always use the selected program..." option is selected. Click OK to close the Open With dialog box
If that dont work, use the Adobe unistaller, then reinstall.

  • File association: psd opening in bridge cs2 not cs4

    howdy
    I'm in windows xp
I right click on a psd open with> choose program and navigate to bridge.exe in the bridge cs4 folder
I select "always use selected blah blah"
    It still opens in cs2.
    ALSO
I have 2 tell bridge cs4 to open twice before it opens (URGH) (Yes I have to click on the brodge icon twice to get it to open - once its been open it seems to be able to open again with one click)

OK so I did a registry edit to remove bridge from the list of programs
    I then re-choose brodge CS4,
and now a fouble click on a PSD and nothing happens.
All I want to do is double click on a PSD to open it in bridge.
    I'm in windows XP.

  • Can't associate .pdf files as Acrobat, opens Distiller instead

I can't associate .pdf files as Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. Instead, opens it opens Acrobat Distiller. When I go to the file association in the Control Panel, it doesn't even show Adobe Acrobat as a program. So I browse & find it & select the Adobe.exe file in the program files in Adobe Acrobat directory, but it does not work. Help!

I used the Adobe.exe file as the file association to open the .pdf files, but it still does not open Adobe Acrobat & opens the file with Adobe Distiller instead & I don't know why. I can only open the files from within the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional software, but not from file manager or by using explore. I am using Windows Vista as the operating system.

  • File Association, Open File, Edit File

Vibe is told to support > 400 file formats and that the file viewing capabilities are provided by Oracle Outside In viewer technology that supports over 500 unstructured file formats.
Testing with Firefox 33.1 on Linux desktops and Vibe 3.4 on SLES11SP3, the following basic file management options beyond Download/Save and possibly View, are available for some typical file types:
    PDF
+ Opening in the browser pdf preview
    DWG
    + Open with
    ODT
    + Open with
    + Edit
    DOC
    + Open with
    + Edit
    DOCX
    TXT
    + Edit
I wonder why "Open with" and "Edit" is not available for DOCX, as long as the document was intially created with LibreOffice on the Linux desktop?
In my opinion also complete file action options should be brought up in a context menu by right-click (as usual in File managers) on any file in the folder Files list.
Is there any configuration file on Vibe that can be edited to complement the available file actions for DOCX files etc ?
The Vibe Admin guide has a chapter about Configuring File Associations for Edit in Place Applications, but I'm not sure how to do this and if this will help here https://www.novell.com/documentation.../b10u30w2.html
Else, in Firefox Edit>Preferences>Applications it is possible to set Actions for various file types (content), and in Gnome 3,x System settings | Details | Default Applications can be selected.
    Thanks,

    Hi Pawel,
I tried first as user to change the default editor settings for .docx to libreoffice according to the documentation
    https://www.novell.com/documentation...s.html#bk59mem
but with no difference as result.
Click on the .docx file pop up the Opening .docx widget which only offers the file options Cancel and Save.
There is still no "Open with" option available.
There is still not 'Edit This File' relevance tab available, nor contains the 'File Actions' any Edit option.
Any idea why the .docx file type is missing this fundamental file management features in Vibe?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2: Different file associations when double-clicking vs. right-click - open

I have a basic .xml file on my Windows 2008 R2 desktop. I have set the file association for .xml files to Adobe FrameMaker 12. When I double-click the .xml file, it opens with FrameMaker. When I right-click -> open the .xml file, it opens with Notepad.
I need the .xml file to always open with FrameMaker, even when I use right-click -> open. How can I set this up for all users on a Windows 2008 R2 server?
    Thank you!
    -Nicole

    Hi Nicole,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
When you double-click on a file in Windows explorer, the Windows shell looks up the extension of the file in the registry to see if the extension is registered. If the extension is not registered, Windows displays the Open With dialog box, allowing the
user to choose an application to associate with the file type. If the extension is registered, Windows calls the ShellExecute() function with a command of "open." It also passes the name of the file that was double-clicked as a command line parameter.
Associations go further than simply opening a file, though. If you right-click on a text file (.TXT) in Explorer you will see two items at the top of the context menu. The first is named Open. Choosing this menu item is the same as double-clicking the
file in Explorer. When you choose Open, NOTEPAD.EXE will be started with the selected file loaded (assuming a default Windows installation). The second menu item is called Print. Clicking this menu item will cause the file to be printed without displaying
    Notepad at all.
There is some registry setting for the application association to take place, you can edit them under following path.
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Test App File
    (Quoted from below article)

    Hope it helps!

  • Unable to open files associated with Adobe Reader - program goes into a loop

i am unable to open any file associated with adobe reader or adobe pro.  when i double-click the file, adobe reader opens up but it goes into a loop.
adobe reader opens, then a progress window opens, as if the file will open but adobe closes and opens again and the same cycle repeats itself until i manually close the program.
    any advice?
    update:
i can open regular .PDF files when i double-click the icon and i can also open .PDF files when i open adobe reader first and then choose open file.  it's just the .FDF files that are the problem (so far).
the file in question happens to be an .FDF extension, which is an internet generated form. i attached a screen shot of the screen that pops up, goes away, and pops up again that creates the loop.
the white out section is the server name where the file was saved to.  but i also get the same symptoms when i am in internet explorer, hit the generate form button.

    hey ankit,
sorry i didn't see a notification that you replied to this discussion.
"1. Generate a new PDF and a FDF file. Try opening the same and see if it behaves the same way."
yes, it does behave the same way, it's just a continuous loop until i have to kill the process.
"2. Check if you have access to the PDF that is being used by the particular FDF."
by this do you mean the correct permissions?  if that is what you mean, then yes, the permissions are set correctly.
"3. If possible, please send me the FDF and the associated PDF that is behaving in this way on your system."
i really wish i could but the information in the form is sensitive and cannot be sent.
as an update though, i reimaged the customer's workstation, installed Adobe Reader 10.1.1 and it worked perfectly (finally).  HOWEVER, after about two weeks the same symptoms returned!

  • Ability to add multiple apps to Open With file associations

It would be extremely helpful if Bridge's "file association" dialog allowed one to associate multiple applications with a file type, so the Open With function worked like Lightroom's Edit In function which allows the use of multiple external editors.  As it is currently designed, only one new "default" association can be changed/added.   A current list of other available "editors" also appears in the Open With context menu, but it is unclear (at least to me) where that list comes from because there are some pretty strange entries in the list for any specific file type.
    Thanks

Agreed -- I've always been curious as to what random generator Bridge uses to assign programs with file types.

  • Open specific PDF document in Windows 8.1 Reader Application without File Associating

I have a user case where i need to be able to open one spesific PDF document without changing "File Associating" from Adobe Reader. Is there a good way to open the reader app and a document from CMD or simular? I know I manual can use "Open
With" but this is not a option because I need to do this in one operation from a shortcut on the start screen.

    Hi,
For command option, you may find adobe reader application path,
    just like that:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader>AcroRd32.exe
    "D:\example.pdf"

  • Strange file association - Can't open directory

    hi,
always when I want to open a directory in the gnome main menu, gnome wants to open it with the "Archive Manager". I think I've done this by updating the file associations in krusader (which, by the way, can't save file associations? ). Now, I can't find where to change the file association to nautilus again!?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Broken Illustrator CS4 "Open With" File Association

I want to open an SVG file, using Illustrator CS4. (I have the Design Premium Suite.) I cannot get it to open from Windows Explorer in CS4. Double-clicking the file opens it in CS3. Here's what I do and what happens:
    1. Right-click on the SVG file in Windows Explorer.
    2. Choose "Open With." A menu of programs pops up. Illustrator CS4 is not in the list, but CS3 is.
    3. So I click on "Choose Program" to find CS4. The "Open With" window opens.
    4. "Adobe Illustrator CS4" is not in the "Recommended Programs" list, but it is in the "Other Programs" list. However, I note that its listing has a generic icon, instead of the "Ai" CS4 icon.
    5. I click on "Adobe Illustrator CS4" expecting the program to load. Instead, an error message pops up: "<filepath and filename.svg> is not a valid Win32 application."
    So I started over:
    1-4. Same as above.
    5. Click on "Browse" to find the Illustrator.exe program file directly. I did this twice:
         a. First with the "Adobe Illustrator CS4" shortcut at: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Adobe Illustrator CS4.lnk". This takes me back to the "Open With" window, with the bad "Adobe Illustrator CS4" listing highlighted.
         b. Then with the actual program at: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Support Files\Contents\Windows\Illustrator.exe". This takes me back to the "Open With" window with "Adobe Illustrator CS3" highlighted.
What can I do to fix this?
    Additional notes:
    1. I was able to use "Open With" to specify several browsers to open the SVG file. So the problem seems to relate specifically to the links to Illustrator CS4, rather than any overall "Open With" functionality.
    2. Right-clicking on an EPS file, and choosing "Open With," behaves exactly as right-clicking on an SVG file.
    3. Right-clicking an AI file show two instances of "Adobe Illustrator CS3"-- one with a CS3 icon and one with a CS4 icon. Clicking on each entry opens the correct program for the icon, however.
How do I also fix this?
    Mike
Message was edited by: Mike Wickham

First an update: I compared registry entries with the CS4 installation on my laptop. I saw that quite a few of the Adobe.Illustrator.<etc>  keys were
missing, and many of the ones that were there had CS3 paths listed instead of CS4. So I uninstalled Illustrator CS4 and reinstalled it. That fixed some
problems. I also, in Windows Explorer, used Tools> Folder Options> File Types to change Illustrator CS4 to the default program to open AI, EPS, and
SVG files. I chose "Advanced" and "Edit" in the File Type dialog and noticed that some of the entries for open were missing the "Open" action. So I fixed that.
I've got the AI, EPS, and SVG files where I can open them with the correct programs now, but there are still some weirdities using right-click and Open With:
    For AI files:
There are two instances of Adobe Illustrator CS3 listed. One has a CS3 icon. The other has the CS4 icon. The AI file opens with the program
associated with the icon. If I choose Open With, then "Other Programs, there is a listing for Adobe Illustrator CS4, but it has a generic window icon and does not work. I get the "<path><filename>.ai is not a valid Win32 application" error.
    For EPS files:
There are also two entries for Adobe Illustrator CS3, again one with a CS3 icon and one with a CS4 icon. Again they both open the program that matches the icon. There is also an Adobe Illustrator CS4 listed, but it has the shortcut icon for CS4 (the one with the arrow). It opens CS4. If I choose
Other Programs, the non-working, generic icon Adobe Illustrator CS4 is also listed.
    For SVG files:
There are also two Adobe Illustrator CS3 listings, one with a CS3 icon and one with a CS4 icon. There is also an Adobe Illustrator CS4 listed, but with the shortcut version of the icon. They all open the program associated with the icon shown. If I choose Other Programs, the listings and icons under "Recommended Programs" are correct for both CS3 and CS4, plus there is a CS4 listing with the generic icon.
Is there any way to fix this stuff without uninstalling/reinstalling the whole Design Premium suite? While the reinstall of Illustrator CS4 did fix
some things, it also broke some. It reinstalled a bunch of ancillary programs, like ExtendScript that I didn't tell it to reinstall. I ran Adobe
update and now ExtendScript and and Adobe Drives service update fail to update. I ran the update from Acrobat. Looking in Illustrator, the update
button is grayed out and completely unavailable.

  • Problem with opening the .fmx file through hyperlink

I am trying to open a .fmx file through hyperlink. After clicking on the hyperlink a dilogue box opens up and asks for "open from the remote server", "save on the local disk" and cancel. If I click on open the .fmx file opens up and applications starts working.
Problem is "I do not want this dialogue box to be opened after clicking on the hyperlink". I tried to change the mime type and changed the setting of Internet explorer. But it does not work.

whever i refresh the entire application in the tomact then its been recognizedMaybe you're creating and downloading it asynchronously so that the creation of the file isn't finished yet while you're about to download it.

When using safari, media such as mp4, as a web mail attachment (yahoo) is not opening in QuickTime .  File association is broken.
If I use the mail application the attachment opens and I see the QuickTime logo on the attachment.
When using the web mail yahoo the attachment, an mp4 audio, opens a black page with a crossed triangle icon in the middle of the page.
    Any solution ?
    Thanks .

There's two ways you can deploy your aspx (layout) files. One is deploy in _Layouts folder (which basically copy the file in (c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\15\template\layouts). To copy file in that place, you don't
need module, just use SharePoint mapped folder.
Another way is to upload the layout folder in SharePoint library. But _catalogs is not the right place to upload your file (_catalogs doesn't have any subfolder named 'layouts'). You can upload your file in 'Pages' library or 'site pages' library in the
    current web.
I'm not quite sure though (sorry I didn't get what the problem is but just guessed you are trying to get your aspx page in SharePoint designer, not sure why) why you need to upload the file in pages/site pages library instead of '_layouts' folder.

  • FMv7, Open With/File Association

    Installed FMv9 after installing FMv7.
On file server, v7 files now show v9 Icon.
When doubleclicking v7 files, they open in v9.
When right clicking v7 file, to Open With, v7 is not listed as an option. If I Browse to v7.exe and select it, the Open With dialog still does not show v7.
We have to abort Open With, start FMv7, and then drag v7 file onto FM program window. Or, in FMv7 program, do File Menu > Open and navigate to v7 file.
What happened to the File Association to FM v7? And why can we not open v7 files via Open With?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Sounds like standard Windows file associations. You can only have one file type ".fm" associated with an EXE. You could re-associate ".fm" with the FM7 EXE, but then you'd have the same problem but the other way around. There's no easy way for the OS to know if a file is an FM7 or FM9 file (unless you gave them special file extensions (".fm7" and ".fm9") and tweaked the registry a bit. I assume that the OpenWith settings got overwritten by the FM9 installer. In theory, you could probably mess with things to get FM7 added back in. Might be easier to add FM7 to the "SendTo" context menu.
I have many versions of FM installed on the same OS. I deal with this by running the FM version first, then drag and drop the file from Windows Explorer onto the FM application window (the title bar if a document is already open). Perhaps not as convenient, but the options are not ideal.

  • Hyperlink open file

    Hi,
How to open file using hyperlinks?
I have a file in D drive (d:\test1.sql) and i want to open file in ssrs report using hyperlinks.
Note: File Paths are stored in database table.
Could you please do the needful for the same.
    Thanks,

    Hi Kiran Kuamr,
Per my understanding that you have some file in the D drive and you want to open this files when you click the hyperlinks in the SSRS report, right?
Did you mean that the file paths (hyperlink) is stored in the DB and will display as an field in the report, when you click on the hyperlink, it will link to the report in the D Driver?
As Harsh mentioned that you need to upload your file to the report manager which is a UNC path like "http://<serverName>/Reports", you cannot put it on
a D:\ drive, it has to be a share since you want other people to get to it.
So, In your scenario, I suggest you to upload the file to the report manager and update these file path to the new one then add the "Go to URL" action on the field which you want to have the hyperlink that link to the path of the
file.  In "Select URL"  of the "Go to URL" action, click the drop-down arrow and click the name of a field that contains a URL.
More details information about how to add the "Go to URL" action for your reference:
Add a Hyperlink to a URL (Report Builder and SSRS)
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.
