Deploy a customized Adobe Reader X package

Hi, I guess that it is the right place to post that...
I'm trying to make a Adobe Reader X package customized to my enterprise (i've an Distribution License Agreement), but i'm confused respect to how do this.
I already have customized the installer through "Adobe Customization Wizard X" and the resulting files:
AcroRead.mst
Setup.ini
Data1.cab
setup.exe
AcroRead.msi
ABCPY.INI.
So far so good... but what I really want is to get just one file compacted (msi or exe) to deploy to all my computers via GFI LanGuard (neither SMS nor SCCM).
Can someone help me?

Per the admin guide here:
www.adobe.com/go/acrobatitinfo, you don't think you can do it with one file. You can use an AIP or Bootstrapper. Both involve more than one file. For example, while installing can involve merely clicking on a single file such as Setup.exe, that file installs the msi, the mst, and reads setup.ini for any params you may have set.

  • Customizing Adobe Reader X from an AIP

I am trying to deploy Adobe Reader X using group policy. So far I have created an administrative installation point as follows:
    1) Downloaded AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi and AdbeRdrUpd1012.msp from the FTP site.
    2) Run "msiexec /a AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi" and extracted the contents to a folder called "10.1.0".
    3) Copied the contents of that folder to a new folder called "10.1.2" and copied AdbeRdrUpd1012.msp into this folder as well.
    4) Navigated to the 10.1.2 folder and ran "msiexec /a AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd1012.msp" and chose the 10.1.2 folder as the target location.
I *think* the above is correct, though please correct me if I'm doing anything wrong.
After creating the AIP I downloaded, installed and ran the Adobe Customization Wizard X. I opened the AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi file in the 10.1.2 folder and ran through the customization. However when I save the package or generate a transform I get an error saying Setup.ini was not found in the 10.1.2 folder.
    Where have I gone wrong?

doesn't work for me. CustWizX still wants the setup.ini file even when trying to generate the MST file (after choosing lcoation and name and clikcing Save). I tried doing as suggested, but anyways the MST file never gets created.
    EDIT:
I fixed the problem by copying setup.exe and setup.ini from 10.1.0 package (coming from EXE package we used in past) and I was able to use the Cust wizard X on this patched to 10.1.2 MSI.
    testing now, finally!
    works!

    Hi,
All your steps are absolutely correct. No isues there.!!
However, while "saving the package" you are receiving the error, since the Customization Wizard tries to modify the contents of "Setup.ini", assuming that you would be using a Setup.exe to install the program. Setup.exe is usually bundled with the Chained Installers as such.
Anyhow, you dont have to worry about obtaining the same. You can chose to click on Transform > Generate a transform. Provide the tranaform name and the location, and chose to quit the Customization Wizard post this. Chose not to save the package. Now you will have a MST file which can be used as below to install Adobe Reader:
    msiexec /i <path to AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi> TRANSFORMS=<path to mst>
    eg. msiexec C:\10.1.2\AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi TRANSFORMS=C:\10.1.2\Reader.mst
Hope this helps and solves your query.

  • Adobe Reader Font Package Install

Does anyone know how to install a font package for Adobe Reader? I downloaded the DMG file from Adobe's website but not sure of the next step?

Reader 11: Adobe - Adobe Reader : For Macintosh : Adobe Reader 11.0.09 Font Packs - Asian and Extended Language Pack
One you download, double click the downloaded .DMG file. You should now see a mounted disk on your desktop by name "FontPack11009_XtdAlf_Lang". Double click that.
That should pop up window with EXTALFLanguagePack INstaller.pkg. Double click this file to complete the install.

  • Adobe Reader X customized installation

I want to execute a customized installation of Adobe Reader X (version 10.1.0).
So I used the Adobe Customization Wizard X (CustWiz1000_en_US.exe)
to create a transform file (AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.mst).
Using an older version of Windows installer (v 3.01) there were no problem to roll out the customized Adobe reader X.
    I typed on command prompt:
    msiexec.exe /i “path of the file”\AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi /t “path of the file”\ AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.mst /qb-! /norestart EULA_ACCEPT=YES
and the customized installation was finished with success.
With a nowadays windows installer (v 4.5.6001.22159) there are problems.
When I use the same phrase the Adobe reader installation was also finished but without customizations written in the transform file.
I tried some various syntax but without success. Meanwhile I think there is a bug in the Windows installer but I don’t know the solution.
    Who can help?
Maybe there is another way to create and roll out a customized installation of Adobe Reader X (version 10.1.0)? Who knows a solution?

Can you try using the following command:
    msiexec.exe /i “path of the file”\AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi TRANSFORMS=path of the file AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.mst /qb-! /norestart EULA_ACCEPT=YES

  • Get adobe reader XI deployment file

    Hi All
I am wondering if I am able to get a deployment file of Adobe reader XI.  The company I work for cannot move to cloud based anything, I have been all through the website, and cannot find a place to download anything but reader DC.  This will not work with this company.  Also have some legacy (XPPRO) computers that cannot update to this new software.  But the users of those computers still need to be able to view the PDF's to do their jobs.  I am pulling my hair out.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Adobe Reader 9.4.0 Customization

    Hello Everyone!
Now this is a funny issue, we're trying to deploy the new Adobe Reader without certain features (i.e. Desktop shortcut, EULA disabled) using the customization wizard, yet every attempt has failed despite checking and re-checking the settings, there always seems to be something wrong with the customized package.
Is there any known bugs with Adobe Customization Wizard 9 when it comes to creating a package for the new 9.4.9 Reader?
So far editing the 9.4.0 MSI has failed, running the 9.4.0 .exe using the nos_ne switch and then editing AcroRead.msi also had similiar problems.

    Hi,
Is it that the installation isn't customized as per your settings or is it that the installation is failing altogether?
Can you try creating a transform, and then install Adobe Reader using the created Transform.
    1. Open Adobe Customization Wizard 9
    2. Open the package i.e. the extracted MSI
    3. Change the required settings and click on Generate > Transform
    4. Try installing using the created transform (xyz.mst) - msiexec /i <extracted msi.msi> TRANSFORMS=xyz.mst

  • Adobe Reader X Pro serial number popup on launch (windows 7)

    Hi Folks
I have Adobe CS6 and part of this volume licence comes Adober reder X. 10.0.0
Unfortunately I'm having issues when deploying the Adober reader X package, I get a popup saying I have x amount of days left of my trial. (and it is actually counting down)
I've allocated the CS6 suite out to many PC's maybe 700 or so, and then allocated the Adobe reder X pro out. This is a side loading application from my understanding and depends on the full CS6 to be out first.  The results I'm finding are mixed. Some staions are working fine, no popup's what so ever and others when opening a PDF or launch the application will produce the popup. This does seem to be computer specific I've tested the same network user on different stations and get different results. working, not working! I've also tried the full suite + adobe reader x pro on windows XP stations and so far it's never had the same issues, unfortunately out networks are quickly moving to windows 7, this seems to be the OS I have the problems with. I've not fully checked the difference with installed application from one station from another, I can do if required but most stations get the same apps installed via a 3rd party deployment tool.
I used the Customisation wizard to create the application and cut down on as many popups/updates as possible using this little tool.  All works as you would expect apart from this serial number behaviour.  This is causing major issues in all our education establishments and I really need to find some solution to this problem that doesn't involve de-installing the applications, it's too far spread.
I've been readign the forums and see a few different issues relating to serial number popup issues.  Is this a software design fault?

    Hi,
You've provided details about the problem, but not about your configuration and deployment steps.
First, follow the steps in the Admin and Wizard Guides here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/index.html. Pay attention to the Activation methodologies. You may have done all that, but double check.
At the bottom of the installation workflows section, you'll also find this: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/licensing.html#acrobat-standa lone-and-aamee
There is additional doc for Acrobat delivered with CS here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html

  • Adobe Reader plug-in for Safari can't find Adobe Reader

I keep Adobe Reader.app in Applications/Local-A/PDF Software.  When I try to open a PDF in Safari (5.0.3), the plug-in can't find the reader.  I have to point it there each time I open Safari.  I would have thought it would know where to look after the first time, but it doesn't.  How do I permanently tell the plug-in where to look?

    Hi,
Default install of Adobe Reader X package has Browser plug-in checked for install. Did you customize your installation and unchecked this option which indicates you dont want to install browser plug-in. Other possibility could be that you are using both Reader 9 and Reader X in your system and after Reader X install, you have updated Reader 9 assuming updating 9.4.0 to 9.4.1. This will change the plug-in version back to 9.4.1 (latest update).
One way to have version X is rerun Reader X installer and it will repair your plug-in to version 10.0.0. As an advise do not use both Reader 9 and Reader X in same system (though this is possible). You can simply delete version 9 application and continue working with Reader X installed.
Secondly to answer your question that Safari keeps on asking to choose Reader application, what you can do is  open com.adobe.acrobat.pdfviewer.plist in /Library/Preferences in any plist viewer. It should have a key - WebBrowserUsePath. This should be pointing to correct reader application on your system. Normally its value is something like - file://localhost/Applications/Adobe%20Reader.app/
In your case you have moved Adobe Reader.app to /Applications/Local-A/PDF Software/Adobe Reader.app
So change the value of this key to point to correct application. Here it should be - file://localhost/Applications/Local-A/PDF%20Software/Adobe%20Reader.app/
This will ensure that Safari does not prompt you again.

  • Adobe Reader X save location issue

Hi All, i would like to seek expert helps on Adobe Reader save location issues. After we upgrade from Adobe Reader 9 to Adobe Reader X.
There are changes on how save location works in Adobe Reader X
If save PDF via Internet Explorer – the save location will according to last save location, HOWEVER
If save PDF via Adobe Reader X – the save location will set according to location the file is being open
Let me show you what i mean over the pictures
I open a reader_X_help.pdf using Adobe Reader X and then save the file using Ctrl+Shift+S at: C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save
    refer my last save location.jpg
Now i want to save another new file back to C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save, I open the file Adobe file2.pdf located at desktop and when i do Ctrl+Shift+S, the location point to my desktop and not C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save
refer my last save location change to desktop.jpg
I have tested this features in Adobe Reader 9 and it's different whereby it's will point according to my last location save.
There is no issue with computer as i have 3 machine running different enviroment, Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 Enterprise, and all using same version of Adobe Reader X version 10.0.1.
    So my questions & concern:
Is there any way to change the save location features same as Adobe Reader 9?
If YES, how to do it? By Computer Changes or Adobe Reader X packages modification using Adobe Customization tools?
If NO, Where can i find this source of documentation stated about this new changes so i can publish this information in HP website as new design changes to avoid complaint or negative feedback.
Looking forward for expert reply as soon.
Thank you very much and Have a great day.

    Solved it!
    1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold,  it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.03 - tools pane opens automatically by default

I just deployed the latest adobe reader MSI patch through group policy, but in this patch, the tools pane is opened automatically. Most of my users don't use it, much less know how to close it. The problem is that there is no typical "close", "x" or ">>" icon, so users are unaware that they can close it. Even I had to think a moment on how to actually close it (by clicking the "tools" button").
The group policy ADM template doesn't offer an option to close this pane.
Is there another method that I can use which closes (or disables) the tools pane by default? Possibly a registry setting of some sort? An MST setting?

    Found a solution:
Using the Adobe Customization Wizard XI, open the MSI, go to the section named "online and adobe online services" and tick the box that says "disable the tools pane in reader".
Then, generate the transform. If it complains about missing a setup.ini file, just create a blank text file named setup.ini in the same folder as the MSI file.
After that, deploy using GPO, and make sure to include the MST modification file.

  • Adobe Reader Transitition Update for SCCM

    Hi all,

    Adobe Reader X (10.1.4)
    Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) - Deutsch
    Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) MUI

  • How to check silent switches for adobe reader installation ?

    Hi All,
We are working on one project where we have to install adobe remotely and silently on around 5K machines. I am wondering how to check all adobe reader silent installation switches.

What do you mean by "check" the silent switches? Do you mean you want the documentation for enterprise deployment?
(Worth mentioning just in case: you will need a deployment license from Adobe).

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 Cannot print - No pages were selected

When trying to print a PDF on a new Dell PC using Windows XP, sp3, I get a message in a window that says Document cannot be printed. Click ok and the next message is No pages were selected to print. The All button is selected and the message stays the same.

    Scadger
For your problem, I'm assuming other programs already print without problem.  My only recommendation is backup your system, format, install only your OS and  printer, and see if that hits it.  Get a fresh copy of Adobe reader, maybe off a magazine CD - the downloads off internet are usually only download managers that install themselves on your system and then download the actual program.  Stay away - possible errors can creep in.  And maybe stay away from the Adobe Reader install package you have at the moment - mark it suspect.  Download your printer software anew.
Basically start fresh.  If it works then, I'm guessing a software conflict on your old system is the cause, or your install media you used for your old install was corrupt, only 2 of many possibilities.
But the key here is to make a "ghost" backup of your current system so you can go look for the problem afterwards.  Of course, I don't even know if there is backup software like ghost out there for a mac.
Also, I think your mac probably has recovery CDs.  Avoid those - get CDs of your OS only.  Make sure you install only the OS and printer software - possibly even only the printer driver, not the printer software.  The newest latest and greatest versions of all of them.
And easiest probably is to put in a different hard disk for this test - saves you from backing up.
My thoughts are that Adobe Reader should work on your system.  It's a software configuration issue.  So something you've installed is preventing things from working correctly.  Especially since your other programs print to the same printer driver without hassle.  But your first step is to get Adobe Reader to print again on a fresh start and prove it still can work, then add stuff until it stops working and blame the last thing you installed.
The actual error, as we've learnt, might be completely unrelated to "no pages were selected".
If you've done all that and still no joy, try a different printer with different software.  Then try a different printer cable.  Then you've got to move on to changing the machine so you can get away from the ports on your current system, but by this time we're at the point of giving up hope, I hope you don't have to go there.  Maybe you could install a peripheral card in your system to add a new port, but that's also more of a hassle than it's worth.
    Hope this helps.
