Deploy Images with SCCM Client Installed

Hi everyone.
there's one thing I have in mind for a while and haven't got a solution for it
We use SCCM 2012 to build and create our master image with a Task Sequence
one task before the syspreping is  "prepare configuration manager client", which from my understanding and from technet - resets all the client's unique configuration.
conclusion - the SCCM Client is installed and "Syspreped" on our base image
in that case, assuming we still use the same SCCM client version, is there a way to save time during the Deploy task sequence?
the "Setup windows and ConfigMgr" step is required and it installs the SCCM Client all over again, even though it is already included in our master image.
thanks
Tamir Levy

First, as noted by Daniel, the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr task does much more than simply installing the ConfigMgr agent. This is clearly indicated by the name of the task (before the "and") "Setup Windows".
The are no true advantages to having the client agent in the image. If you are building your image with ConfigMgr though, it is unavoidable. Yes having it in the image should save time by not having to reinstall the pre-reqs -- most are pretty trivial though
but you may gain a bit although I can't say I've ever timed it.
There is no time savings to be had here, the client agent must be either installed or re-installed during the deployment TS, this is unavoidable. You'll need to look elsewhere if this is a required goal.

  • Existing SCCM Client installed again after removing client or imaging

    Hello,
I have a question on two different scenarios for SCCM client deployment.  Client Push and AD System Group Discovery is enabled.
In both cases, I am trying to figure out if/how the SCCM client might get automatically re-installed.
Scenario 1: An existing SCCM client has its client removed. Will it get re-installed?
Scenario 2: An existing SCCM client gets re-imaged (no SCCM client on image) using the same name. Will the client be installed?
    Thanks
    Angelo

Thanks for the quick response. We do use ConfigMgr to deploy images so my main question really revolves around CM reinstalling the client on existing machines where it was then removed.
It looks like there is a way to do this by changing the items you mention in your response. I'm just not sure what it should be changed to in order to accomplish my goal.
This link shed some light on the issue but I'm still unsure on what specific changes to make.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e555d7e3-3681-440a-82d0-319d2b4bdd08#BKMK_PlanMaintenanceTasks
Here are our settings as of now:
Delete Aged Discovery Data - Enabled - 90 Days on Saturdays
    Clear Install Flag - Disabled
    Heartbeat Discovery - Enabled - 1 week
Assuming the settings above, what would happen if a client was removed today?  Would it ever get reinstalled? Let's say I wanted to have the client reinstalled in approx. 2 days of removal?
    Thanks so much
    Angelo
Assuming a client was removed today,

  • After migration from sccm 2007, there are many systems with no client installed

    Hi Everyone,
We have migrated our environment from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 , And Manual client push installation has been done by HeadQuarter SCCM admins on site code of our region.
But as i see , in all systems collection based on OU, there are approx 50% systems with no client installed.
There may be some stale systems in AD.
Is there any way so that i can list out all Stale or old computers which are not in use anymore records of systems from Active directory and so that i move them to OU for which system discovery is not enabled.
Also, it will very useful if i get more information on lastLogonTimeStamp and such more properties which specifies system as stale or OFF the network for some period..

You could also remove the objects without a client and adjust the settings in the
Options tab of the Active Directory System Discovery Properties. By tweaking those options you can make sure that you're not discovering those old objects in the first place.

  • SCCM Client Install Loop

    Hello,
I am using SCCM 2012 R2 with CU3 and I identified an issue for some SCCM clients installed on 2012/2012R2 servers.
The client keeps being resinstalled everyh 5/6 hours.
I believe it's because of the ccm evaluation failing.

I used the client Push to install the client so I first deploy the version 5.00.7958.1000 then install the update CU3.
I already tried to uninstall/reinstall the client but it's still the same.

  • Site Code for SCCM Clients installed from Secondary Site Server

    Hello,
We have started the implementation of SCCM 2012 R2 at our network. We have setup a Primary site (JFO) server & pushed out the installation of SCCM clients to the local subnet. Things went fine.
We have installed a Secondary site (ATC) at a remote network. We have tested client installation in the installation wizard we specify to install the client from the Secondary server. When SCCM client installed from the Secondary server, the site
code that appears on the client in the control panel->Configuration Manager client settings is the site code of the primary site and not the secondary site.
    Is this behavior is normal

Ultimately, secondary sites do *not* manage clients and so will never be assigned to the secondary site. However, do note that resources in the console that represent systems that do not have the client agent may show the site code of the secondary site
if they fall within a boundary group associated with that secondary site. This is done so that client push can be initiated from the correct site. More gory details at http://blog.configmgrftw.com/secondary-sites-and-boundary-groups/

I want to share a folder of images with a client who is also using bridge. I want the client to be able to edit metadata and rate the image. How can I do this?

Metadata won't be a problem as long as you use Bridge to copy the file from within Bridge to whatever media (flash drive, CD/DVD. email, etc) you plan to use for the sharing.
I'm not sure about the Label part.  Maybe it will travel along too.

  • How would SCCM treat a re-imaged machine without SCCM Client installed on it.

I would like to understand how Configuration Manager would treat a machine on which OS is rebuild if the machine is currently showing client=YES and SCCM Client is not installed after OS rebuild.
Would it create a new record for this machine in SCCM once the machine is discovered or merge it with existing record?

The only thing that flips client=no to client=yes is heartbeat discovery (which is sent by the ConfigMgr client). There's no mechanism that would flip to client=no (except the clear install flag task). So the resource will age out eventually (if AD
discovery does not update the resource for example).

  • Deploying Applications with SCCM 2012 R2 to Server 2008 R2 RDS servers

I'm having some trouble finding some concrete information from Microsoft regarding the deployment of applications to RDS servers using SCCM 2012 R2. There seems to be a lot of conjecture, old information and old wives tales floating around and I was hoping
I could get some information confirmed!
    1. MSI installs automatically switch to install mode on RDS servers?
I've seen this mentioned a few times. I've also seen it mentioned that it is only true when running the MSI from the console session manually (i.e clicking the MSI file) not running as SYSTEM as SCCM would usually do. Can someone confirm if they do this
    themselves or not?
    2. Users still logged in when deploying applications?
Is it possible to deploy an application while users are still logged in? Is this only related to going into 'install' mode and taking the chance that a user will do something that will cause issues? Or is it known to cause issues?
I guess those are the main ones, I'm experienced in SCCM but not with deploying to RDS servers, I cant seem to find any straight answers!
    Anyway, thanks in advance!

I've never had large enough RDS environment to use SCCM for app push, but from my experience in managing 2012/R2 RDS and local installs, I never bother with switching to install mode anymore and it works fine.  Now if you're skeptical, you can
easily build this into a script that runs as a pre-req to your .MSI as part of the software package in SCCM so it's not a big deal.
As for installing apps while users are logged in, shouldn't be a problem if you're installing a new app., if however you're updating an existing application or uninstalling it, then it may be best to drain that RDS host first of all user sessions then do
the work just to be safe.  this also helps avoid reboots.

  • Reports for Apple devices with SCCM client - Mac Addresses and IP information.

    Greetings.
I've been having an interesting problem.
I am currently running SCCM 2012R2 with PKI and have clients installed on windows, linux (ubuntu mostly) and apple computers successfully.
I have created custom report proving me with hardware information for windows and linux machines (Serial numbers, manufacturer, Mac Addresses and IP addresses) successfully.
So far I wasn't able to create any report or even find what table information about Apple computers MAC and IP addresses is stored.
If i go to Apple computer in SCCM using resource explorer under hardware I can see network devices, so that information is definitely gathered by SCCM in some way.
Can anyone help me out with this and maybe I am doing this in a wrong way?

Nice. Only trouble there seems to be multiple entry for same mac address there for same resource id.
So when I try to get them as substring i get multiple copies of same mac address.
But looks like this will work as solution to this problem.
So far I was doing it this way (And i am sure there is clearer way to do it.)
    SUBSTRING((SELECT ',' + CAST(t2.MACAddress0 AS VARCHAR(40))
FROM (SELECT DISTINCT ResourceID, MACAddress0 FROM  v_GS_NETWORK_ADAPTER) t2
                WHERE t2.ResourceID = ResourceID
                ORDER BY t2.ResourceID, t2.MACAddress0
                FOR XML PATH ('')
            ), 2, 100) [MACAddresses]

  • Trouble with SCCM Client Push

I am having issues with pushing the SCCM client. I am able to push the client just fine as it installs OK but it will not assign the site code. When I try to manually enter the site code I get the "Failed to Update Site Assignment" error. However,
when I log off of my domain admin account and log on as the local administrator I can manually enter the site code and it accepts it. My domain account is added as a local administrator..
The old Network Admin who setup most of SCCM in not with us anymore so I am in charge of figuring out where he left off at and getting everything working. From what I can put together we have extended AD and the System Management folder is populated. I have
ran a query in AD to ensure we do not have any over lapping boundaries. As far as I know we installed SCCM 2012 fresh and did not upgrade from 2007. I have checked our GPO and have not found any that are trying to push the site code.
I have copy and pasted a couple logs below that may help troubleshoot. I have googled for days now how to fix the issues I see in the logs but haven't found anything. Please Help!!

I had the same Problem with the client version thing. I had to do following Steps to fix it:
    1. If you made an Extension in the Active Directory for your SCCM Installation just open ADSIedit go To CN System=>CN System Management remove the Object CN=SMS-MP..... (don't worry it will be recreated by
the sccm server hourly. if not check rights on the object (the sccm computer object need to have rights to write into the System Management Object)
    2. Just wait until next morning! The Server should updated all Version Numbers by itself!

  • Deploy Lenovo with SCCM and enable Bitlocker during deploying?

    Hi!
Do anyone got information how to activate TPM and enable bitlocker during deploy of new Lenovo with SCCM ?
Something like this but for Leonovo
    http://www.nullsession.com/2010/12/02/enable-tpm-in-task-sequence-with-sccm-and-cctk/
    Thanks, Magnus

has anyone been successful with the WMI script on the M92p models, I recently attempted to activate the TPM using the same script that we use for our M91p and it fails.  When I check the logs, it states that access is denied, when I run it manually I get the same error (access denied).  Our lenovo rep says that you cannot use the WMI to enable the TPM and that the Enable Bitlocker step should enable the TPM.  However we automate our OS deployments so manually enabling bitlocker is not an option, any assistance or feedback is appreciated.
I was having the same issue and I discovered another way to accomplish this task. Download this utility:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/9sjw67usa.exe
Run the EXE to extract the files to the location of your choice, then copy them to your script location. From your script, run the following command:
    srwin.exe /tpm active
Then do a couple reboots (this may not be necessary, but I didn't have time to test it.)
There are a couple of caveats. First, the working directory must be the directory the utility is stored in (presumably so it can find the two .sys files). I.e. you can't do
    c:\utilities\srwin.exe /tpm active
    you have to do
    cd /D c:\utilities
    srwin.exe /tpm active
Also, I was attempting to run this in a WinPE session (doing OS deployment using SCCM 2012) and I was getting an 0x80070134 error in my logs. I had been using an x64 boot image, and switching to an x86 boot image resolved that issue.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Migration of a Windows 2008 Domain to 2012 with SCCM 2012 installed

    Hey there,
i have been requested to migrate two 2008 Domains to 2012 with a possible merge.
Done this many times, but in this case i have a SCCM 2012 installed in the Environment.
SCCM is not covered by me, but i would like to have some aditional Background on this...
Are there any Special Points to give Attention to?
Any Hints or Ideas on this?
    Best regards
    Chris
btw: i still found, that i am not "allowed" to migrate the sccm itself, but Need to reinstall it...

Lets say you have two domains - Domain 1 and Domain 2. Both have W2008 DCs. SCCM 2012 has been deployed to Domain 1.
You could just upgrade to W2012 DCs in Domain 1, then migrate Domain 2 resources to Domain 1.In this way SCCM is unaffected.

  • Windows 7 Imaging with ZCM Agent installed

Has anyone successfully made a Windows 7 image with the ZCM agent already installed on the base image?
I am trying to get the unattended setup to login once to but the workstation prompts for the ZCM login information?
    Any suggestions?

    Yes
You have to disable the zcm logon prompt, then run a reghack to enable zcm logon as your last step after the first auto logon.
