Deploy Iphone configuration utility profiles
Hi,
i am IT expert on large organization, i would like to deploy wireless and icloud profiles on ~3000 IOS devices.
i would like to deploy it encrypted (since the regular export is cleartext).
i read about SCEP , but i didn't find any step by step or similar article on how to do it.
is there anyone did it ? or know how to run it?
and please - i can't spend $$$ on MDM solution such as Good , Zenprise or similar.
thanks in advanced
Buris.
I had the same problem as you. I've followed mgm612's suggestion and downloaded all versions of IPCU that I could find:
3.1 : http://www.iphoneworld.ca/news/2010/11/29/download-iphone-configuration-utility- ipcu-3-1-mac-windows/
3.2 : http://download.cnet.com/iPhone-Configuration-Utility-for-Windows/3640-20432_4-1 1666367.html
3.3 : http://iphone-configuration-utility.soft32.com/
3.4 : http://download.cnet.com/iPhone-Configuration-Utility-for-Windows/3000-20432_4-1 0969175.html
then uninstalled IPCU 3.5 and started to test with 3.1 and went up one version at a time until I reached version 3.4 which allowed me to uninstall the configuration profile from my device...
Don't know about you but I find that Apple pretty much dropped the ball with this and many other issues *such as recurrent Outlook event...) . Being unable to remove a configuration profile from your device because you've updated your software is absolutely ridiculous!
Good luck to others!

IPhone Configuration Utility Profile Removal
Our company is starting to aquire more and more iPhones as users want a more app rich enviroment from that of a Blackberry. My problem is when I was testing the Configuration Utility, I set the policy to Never be allowed to be removed or Only With Authentication. If I initiated a local wipe from my device that policy is gone and most of my users are savy enough to know what settings to choose to setup their e-mail accounts again. My fear is I am going to set users up with restrictions etc... and they will just wipe the device and now be free and clear of our policies. Is there a way to lock that down or prevent them from initiating the wipe?
We had the same fears when integrating our iPhones. I was pointed to the following document, and found a section in it called "Query".
I hope this answers your question, and eases the concern.
http://images.apple.com/iphone/business/docs/iPhone_MDM.pdf
I was also told you could pair your MDM Server(Mobile Device Management) Server with a Group Policy to disable ActiveSync unless a specific certificate is located on the device, and this cert would be wiped if they initiate a wipe of the device.
So far we've had one user think he was sneaky enough to wipe his device and continue using it, but it flagged immediately. Before he was stripped of his iPhone, and given his blackberry, we showed him the monitoring capabilities, which we hope he passes on as a warning to others that might consider the same route.
Hope this helps! -
Iphone configuration utility profile deployment problem.
We are currently try to deploy a profile to 1500 new iphones, we have cjhoosen to do this via the web and have created a configuration profile.
we want to have one profile for all users, so on the exchange tab of the profile we have left all fields blank except for the exchange activesync host field
when we go to the website we are prompted to install the profile which is ok but instead of being prompted for a user name and email address we are just prompted for a password??
obviously we can not connect as it hasnt prompted us for a user name.we have now found what seems to be causing this.
there appears to be a bug in the software that if you leave the email field blank it doesnt remove the email field from the XML file. this has to be removed manually
As soon as you do this the auto deployment works.
the only issue with this is you can not sign your config profile as when you manually remove the line in question it breaks the authenticity. -
Deploying iPads with iPhone Configuration Utility
We are trying to deploy some iPad2s into an enterprise environment. I have been able to push some settings like WiFi or remove Safari via iPhone Configuration Utility. However, we are needing to have one app installed (Prezi) from the App Store. I can't find a way to do this via the Configuration Utility, so I installed the app before applying the profile. One the profile is applied it hides the app on the homescreen. As soon as I remove the policy the app shows right back up. Is there a setting somewhere in the policy that is causing this?
On a related note, is there a better way to get the app installed automatically? You need an MDM -- moble device management

IPad2 w/iPhone Configuration Utility wont install profile
I'm trying to use the iPhone Configuration Utility 3.6.2 from a windows 7 SP1 on an iPad2 running iOS 7.0.3 (11B511) but when I try to install a profile nothing seems to respond. I don't get any feed back on the iPad or from iPhone Configuration Utility. I know the name is iPhone Configuration Utility but from what iv read it it compatible with iPads aswell. I need this or something like this to keep the iPad from auto-connecting to open Wi-Fi in a businesses environment. Its not as easy and putting a password on the open Wi-Fi signals because we do not control the other businesses around the one we support. Forgetting the connection also wont work once the iPad looses connection with the correct Wi-Fi and is looking to reconnect.
This is what's in the console after trying to install the profile.

So i read that Apple hasnt updated the iPhone config utility for iOS7 (or at all for a while). Does anyone know of any other config utilities that would allow me to control wheather a Wi-Fi is auto connected to or not? We use iPads in a buinessness envornment and need to be able to connect to one Wi-Fi with other open Wi-Fi connections avalable (but not connected). forgetting an open network doesnt work because it will auto-connect if the iPad looses connection with the main Wi-Fi. Auto-connect should be an option on apple devices but isnt. we cannont be asked if we want to connect to an open Wi-Fi all the time. -
Cannot install configuration profiles using iphone configuration utility, why?
I have several working configuration profiles, which I can distribute both via email and a website.
I'd like to install the profiles through the iPhone Configuration Utility, but I am not able to do so. The devices show up just fine in the list. When I choose the Configuration Profile tab and clicking the install-button on a profile (which will install fine via Email or website) in the list, nothing happens. Regardless of the device beeing out of the box, or activated via iTunes. What am I missing?
I have tried this on several iPad and iPad 2 devices with the latest (4.3.3) firmware installed.Hi,
I have the same problem. After creating profile with only General tab being set up it is failing to install on my iPad.
Profile installation failed
The profile could not be added to device
Any suggestions?
I even erase all content and setting but that didn't help either.
The only alarming thing is that in my Certificate section I have red message:
"This certificate was signed by and untrusted issuer"
Can that effect installation?
If that is the case how to fixed it?
P.S. iPad was purchased from Apple Store.
Regards, -
I need instructions on creating a configuration profile to turn off the Deleting Apps button on an iPad using the iPhone Configuration Utility, please.
The deleting apps restriction is new in iOS 6 but is available only on supervised devices. You can supervise devices and create and install a configuration profile containing this restriction using Apple Configurator.

IPhone Configuration utility locked my phone now passcode doesn't work
Googled the heck out of this but haven't seen any posts even close to this problem.
I was testing the iPhone Configuration Utility, prior to deploying configurations to enterprise users. I modified the passcode settings to what i thought would be basic requirements.
I also created payloads for Restrictions, and Exchange ActiveSync, but haven't included in the post, since I am fairly certain they shouldn't have any impact to the issue.
Once I saved the profile, i deployed to my phone via email, and installed it on my device. It then locked, and will not accept the passcode that I was using before installing the "test" profile.
The only other screen that I made any change to, that refers to any sort of password/code, was in the General area:
I set a security password to control when the profile can be removed, but it is a password more than the simple four-digit that the phone appears to be looking for.
I can try 2 more times before the phone wipes, which isnt the end of the world thanks to iCloud, but I sure would like to know what happened....
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
KevinThanks Bonesaw, I did connect the phone to the host running ICPU, but it was still looking for some unknown passcode. I ended up putting the phone in DFU mode as suggested by Kilt, and restored the phone. This is the first I've used the iPCU, but I would have been willing to bet the authentication password for the profile wouldnt affect the device passcode. I must have done something else wrong, so I will try it again and see what happens. Thanks for responding!

Preparing for iPhone 6 - iPhone Configuration Utility
Hello, I've been tasked with drafting a configuration via the iPhone Configuration Utilty in preparation of our new corporate iPhone 6's landing in the next few days, Wi-Fi setup, Exchange Activesync etc. In addition I've also been asked to look into the feasibility and benefits of SCEP and S/MIME so was wondering whether someone could answer a few questions that I have;
1) Downloading of Apps to deploy via the profile
I'm a little confused as to how to download iOS app's onto our MAC Mini server and present them to the configuration utility. I understand that I need to import them via the add new application button in the top right of the utilty but in terms of actually preparing the app for import, I'm a little confused.
2) S/MIME
Does the iPhone Configuration Utility support a global S/MIME setup? By this I mean how does the device associate the user profile with the certificate and would the signing and encryption certificates need to be enterprise or user level?
3) SCEP
Is anyone using this method of distributing certicates to their iOS devices. If so what are the benefits and if known, outside of a CA and SCEP server, what infrastructure is required to allow it to function as an internal mechanism?
Looking forward to all your replies.
Thanks very much.Perhaps I should have clarified;
Assuming that I can get iOS 5 installed on my iPhone 4 before leaving for my trip, will this allow me to transfer everything using the iCloud (music, contacts, email accounts, pictures, apps etc.) straight to my new iPhone 4S? -
Iphone configuration utility for Windows XP doesn't work.
Getting message when I try to launch Iphone Configuration utility on WIndows XP Sp3 machine - IPCU.exe Procedure entry point not found.
The procedure entry point sqllite23_clear_bindings could not be located in the dll library sqlite3.dll.
Say ok to that and get also a message that Iphone configuration utility failed to locate Apple Mobile device support . Please reinstall, you can download Iphone configuration utility from http://blah blah blah.
I already tried 3.4 and that didn't work. Back rev'd to 3.3 and same error. Running Itunes 10.5 and IOS 5.0 on phone. Any ideas?
Getting ready to deploy about 25 of these and using MS Exchange 2007 as email and active sync. I was hoping to use the utility to help roll out security settings and such.we noticed the exact same thing. We used IPCU 3.4 and the new feature of setting WiFi proxy which we are very interested in. From Windows, after installing the profile, there was no proxy info on the device UI. From the Mac, the proxy info is there and can be seen from the device UI but it does not work. These proxy settings, even though we can see them through the device UI, do not "stick". They have no effect. HTTP traffic still does not go through the proxy.
Using the Mac is fine as long as we can make the proxy settings "stick", otherwise we have to ask our users again to do them manually. Has anybody found a workaround or something? -
IOS 8.1.1 and iPhone Configuration Utility
I look after the IT of a small school, we have a small fleet of iPads, they've all just been updated to 8.1.1. This would be great, HOWEVER, I need to be able to manage them from the iPhone Configuration Utility for Windows. Unfortunately, the latest version only supports up to iOS 6.1. Can anyone tell me if there is a newer piece of software, or a way around this, keeping in mind that I have no cached versions of the earlier iOS versions.

Multiple from e-mailaddresses / one account / iphone configuration utility
I trie to configure my e-mail account on my iphone. This works fine, when there is one e-mailaddress per account. But when I want to configure it to have multiple from-e-mailaddresses aka aliases I can choose to sent my mail from, there I stuck.
What I tried till now but without any success is
use the "name1 <[email protected]>, name2 <[email protected]>" syntax
leaf it blank and do it manually when the profile is installed, what works, but still just for one e-mailaddress
who could help?thx for your answer
at the provider end every thing is configured the way it should
you know the way to configure other e-mail-addresses in iOS manually: Preferences > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > yourMailAccount > yourMailAccount > E-Mail yourEMailAddress
There you can put in your aliases, which enables you to select, from which address you send your e-mail from
the same thing you can do in Apple Mail, with the "name1 [email protected], name2 [email protected]" syntax entered in the Email Address field in Account Information in the preferences
But what to do, if you want to configure your iPhone with the iphone configuration utility?
if you leaf the from-address blank, you can enter just one address, the above mentioned syntax, that works for Apple Mail, doesn't
And the question for the super hero out there: How to do this in addition with certificates? -
How to set "Identity" of the MDM Payload from iPhone Configuration Utility?
Does anybody know how to set the "Identity" of the Mobile Device Management (MDM) payload of a Configuration Profile from iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU)? The description says that this is the "Cryptographic credential used for authentication" and I should "Add credentials in the Credentials payload". Any help is appreciated.
The Identity field in the MDM payload section of a configuration profile can only be set AFTER you have set the correct credential in the Credentials section. If you have set the correct credential in the Credentials section, then you will (in my experience) only have one choice for Identity in the MDM payload section. It will be the correct choice fortunately.
To set the correct credential in the Credentials section of the configuration profile, you must have a valid personal certificate in the Windows certificate store. If you have a valid personal certificate in the Windows certificate store it will show up in the (very long) list of certificates you can choose from when you click on Configure in the Credentials section.
You should be prompted for the password for 'exporting your identity'. Fill in both boxes and then click on OK. The set the password again. Yes, the password must be entered three times.
At this point you can go back to the MDM payload section and everything should be OK.
Note that my comments only apply to Windows. My system is Windows 7. However, only version of Windows probably works the same. -
Where does iPhone configuration utility store data?
Where does iPhone configuration utility store profiles and other data on the system? I know you can export the individual profiles to back them up, but I would like to just backup the entire iPhone Configuration Utility storage location.
Thanks for the reply. It helped me get more information on where to find it on the Mac. Here's the location for the Mac if anyone else needs the information:
Your home folder > Library > MobileDevice
There are folders in the "MobileDevice" folder that contain data for iPhone Configuration Utility (configuration profiles, device information, etc.)
