Deploying a war file to Sun Application Server 9

Could somebody help please? Is the process of preparing and deploying a web application the same in sun app server 8 and 9? Could someone provide an example or some help? I do have a connection pool and it pings but the deployed app does not run the message I receive is:

  • Deploying a WAR file to Sun App Server 8.1 PE

    So I thought that if I downloaded Sun App Server PE 8.1 and put it on my soon-to-be production machine, it should be pretty easy right?
    Nope. So I have JSC update 6 (which includes Sun Application Server 8.0) (God how I wish there was a catchy name like Tomcat or something)
    And I have a machine running a good copy, installed and everything, of Sun Application Server 8.1 Platform Edition (another catchy name) up on the production target.
    I create a WAR file in JSC, scp it up.
    Then try to deploy it - so I get bit by the no DB connection thing.
    Ok, but when I copy each of my connection's attributes (the driver (which I did copy up to the lib directory) is MySQL's Connector/J)
    I copy the username, password, URL and DriverClass attributes to the connection pool.
    I still get a
    "Operation 'pingConnectionPool' failed in 'resources' Config Mbean. Target exception message: Class name is wrong or classpath is not set for : com.sun.sql.datasource.DriverAdapter"
    when I try to Ping the ConnectionPool
    I have javax.sql.DataSource as the resource type... (same as 8.0 uses)
    what JAR file is DriverAdapter in? anyone know?
    cheers,
    Kris

    Okay. mysql folks - this works......
    here's what happened, on the production server, different from the dev machine....
    mysql 4.1.9
    sun application server platform edition PE 8.1
    connector/j - latest
    and on the dev machine: JSC Update 6 and the app works fine on the dev machine.
    first, there is a JAR file in ~whatever/Create/SunAppServer/lib/ named
    driveradaptor.jar
    and it it comtains
    com.sun.sql.datasource.DriverAdapter
    which 8.1 ain't got
    and should be copied up to
    /installdir/SunAppServer/domains/domain1/lib/ext/driveradapter.jar
    (domain1 is your app svr domain that runs your app.)
    your Connector/J JAR needs to go here too. I used:
    mysql-connector-java-3.2.0-alpha-bin.jar
    downloaded from mysql.com.
    and then there is the whole thing about Added Properties in the Connection Pool page inside the 8.1 Admin Console (which is nice work guys). Gawd, I added a bunch of properties and am, frankly, not sure which ones actually work (for the Ping, for the initial connection creation and the eventual successful connection all seem to use different combinations...)
    and I found this in the domain's domain.xml once all the admin console page filling was done - but you'll need to add each one as a Property in the connection pool:
    <jdbc-connection-pool connection-validation-method="auto-commit" datasource-classname="com.sun.sql.datasource.DriverAdapter" fail-all-connections="false" [blah...]
    <property name="Username" value="root"/>
    <property name="Password" value="secret"/>
    <property name="ValidationQuery" value="SELECT 1"/>
    <property name="DriverClassName" value="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"/>
    <property name="LoginTimeout" value="0"/>
    <property name="Url" value="jdbc:mysql://localhost/databasename?autoReconnect=true"/>
    <property name="User" value="root"/>
    <property name="password" value="secret"/>
    <property name="PasswordCredential" value="secret"/>
    </jdbc-connection-pool>
    (and you see how User and Username and username are all the same thing? well, different parts of 8.1 seem to use different attributes...)
    Just keep Adding Properties in the connection pool until you get them all....
    Oh and, the two key class references for the pool are:
    datasource class: com.sun.sql.datasource.DriverAdapter
    resource type: javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource
    Finally: in the /installdir/SunAppServer/domains/domain1/applications/j2ee-modules/YourAppName/WEB-INF/
    your 'sun-web.xml' (don't delete it, like some have advocated, I think that wrong) needs to look like:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE sun-web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Application Server 8.1 Servlet 2.4//EN" "http://www.sun.com/software/appserver/dtds/sun-web-app_2_4-1.dtd">
    <sun-web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee">
    <context-root>/yourcontext</context-root>
    <resource-ref>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/Yourname</res-ref-name>
    <jndi-name>jdbc/Yourname</jndi-name>
    <default-resource-principal>
    <name>root</name>
    <password>secret</password>
    </default-resource-principal>
    </resource-ref>
    </sun-web-app>
    and I think that's all of it. the only Bug I would I would say is that the sun-web.xml should have the right res-ref-name, but then I think the Creator Team knows this and will fix it sometime soon.
    cheers,
    and Roger Federer lost in the Aussie Open. (I think he lost tomorrow too, that whole time zone thing being so damn Einsteinian...)

  • How to deploy a WAR file to Sun One Portal Server

    Would someone please tell me the instruction of how to deploy a WAR file to Sun One Portal Server 6.2. Thank you.

    I would advise against this. We tried that and it totally hosed the server.xml file and took our staging portal server down.
    I have no idea what was "in" the server.xml or other files, but trying to deploy a .war file using the WS admin interface hosed portal server's settings.

  • Deploying an ear file in Sun Web Server

    I have an ear file that we use to deploy to weblogic. Is it possible to deploy an ear file to Sun WEb Server 6.0? Instead of deploying the war files one-by-one?
    If yes, what are the steps?
    Thanks.
    Beth

    No, Sun ONE Web Server does not support ear files; ear files are typically the domain of J2EE application servers.

  • Deploying a war file to the portal server

    Hi,
    I have downloaded a portlet (portletsamples.war) from the following URL,
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/portalserver/reference/techart/jsr168/
    Could I know how to deploy this war file to SUN ONE Portal server 6.0?
    --Muthu

    i used the following command
    /opt/SUNWps/bin/pdeploy deploy -u "amadmin" -w password -d "dc=cmarks,dc=com" -p password /opt/madiha/me.war
    It gives the error
    errorStoreDP (User does not have sufficient access.)
    1)does it matter if the portal server is started or not when we deploy?
    2)i am logged in to the machine as the super user "root" but yet it is throwing this error
    the error that i get in the pdeply.debug file is

                        I should say you that we do not have a package and class like: com.wira.webservices.bpel.jaxws.RequestResponse and it looks like WLS is mistaken about this.
              Indeed this application works fine on Sun java application server 9 (java ee 5 certified). Can you please tell me why does it happens?
              here is source code of Wsti class
                        @WebService()
              public class Wsti {
                  @WebMethod(operationName="requestResponse")
                  public String requestResponse(@WebParam(name="request") String request) {
                      return ReflectionManager.call(WstiImp.class, request);
                                            for reflection we used standard JDK reflection stuff.
              and that call method call a method identified in request from WstiImp class.
              Thanks

    Following are the steps involved in deploying a WAR file in Oc4j.
    1. Copy the file to D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications where d:\oc4j is the location OC4J is installed in.
    copy mywar.war D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications
    2. Open the application.xml file in D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\config directory
    and add the following after the <web-module id="defaultWebApp" path="../default-web-app" />
    line:
    <web-module id="mywar" path="../applications/mywar.war" />
    3. Open the default-web-site.xml file in D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\config
    directory and add the following after the <default-web-app application="default" name="defaultWebApp" /> line:
    <web-app application="default" name="mywar" root="/mywar" />
    Hope this helps

  • Deploying war file on iplanet application server 6.5

    Hi ,
    We are trying to deploy WebObjects application on Iplanet Application server server 6.5.
    Steps we tried for deployment :
    1) War file generated by WebObjects.
    2) Started IPlanet Application server.
    3) Opened the War file in the deployment tool.
    4) Verified that the WAR file to be deployed using the verify option in the deployment tool(Verified successfully)
    5) We tried to save the archive, then it throws an error saying "
    "Invalid entry compressed size (expected 52 bytes but got 51 bytes)".
    We ignored this message and proceeded further by clicking on OK.
    6) Deployed the WAR file using the deploy option
    7) In the deploy message box, it diplays that the application was deployed successfully.
    Then we tried to access the application by trying the following url : " http://localhost/NASApp/<CONTEXT NAME>/WebObjects/<APPLICATION NAME>"
    (eg : http://localhost/NASApp/SampleApplication/WebObjects/SampleApplication.woa>)
    We are getting the error saying that " GXError". We are not sure whether the the above mentioned url is the correct way to access the application !
    What we think the problem in deployment is
    i) because of error while saving the WAR file (Invalid entry compressed size (expected 52 bytes but got 51 bytes)
    ii) URL not appropriate
    Other observations :
    We tried to deploy to deploy sample application on Iplanet Application server. All these sample applications are deployed properly without the above mentioned error message. All these application are accessed by typing following url : " http:localhost/NASApp/<CONTEXT NAME>/<APPLICATION NAME>". IN all the sample application, url contains "NASApp" . We are not sure what this stand for and maps to. What we assumed is that it maps to the the iplanet app document root i.e "installedroot/ias6/ias/App"
    The exception throw while saving the WAR file is " com.iplanet.ias.tools.buzz.util.ArchiveHandlerException"
    Has any body who has tried this can help us?
    Thanks,
    Raju and Venkatesh

    Hi,
    First of all the application you are trying is from a WebObjects application server. I don't know how they package the modules and what is the format/file structure. I just went to their site, though they say that the WebObjects applications can be deploy on any J2EE Application server but still how they package and how they write the xml descriptors is not known.
    Looking at your exception it seem that first it is something to do the war/jar archive file compression thing (as the deployment tool is not able to read the complete file) then comes the deployment descriptors.
    I tried to get a few sample application from their site but I couldn't fine any, it will be great help if you can provide a WebObjects sample app to me (mail it to [email protected]).
    Regarding the NASApp string in URL, it has nothing to do with document root of iAS and also installedroot/ias6/ias/APPS dir is not the document root of iPlanet app server, this is the place where it save/explodes all the archives (ear).
    See iPlanet App server don't have any HTTP daemon to listen to the HTTP requests, so it needs a web server with a plugin (web connector) to forward the HTTP requests meant for iAS, and this NASApp string in the URL is the key to that.
    All the URLs are first send to the iAS plugin (as configured in web server's obj.conf file) and plugin look for this NASApp string (configurable), if it is there in the URL then it converts the HTTP request and send it to iAS over a proprietary protocol (KCP), otherwise it gives the request as it is to web server to process it.
    The NASApp string is a iAS registry parameter which you can change any time. And generally the context root part of the URL is the war file name (by default). So the typical URL for any web application (MyWeb.war) will be:
    http://<host>:<port>/NASApp/MyWeb/<Servlet_name>.
    I don't know why that extension "*.woa" is there. So if you send me a sample war file, I will be able to try it out.
    Please feel free to ask further questions.

  • Error message when deploying war file to sun web server 6.1

    i've been trying to deploy an application developed locally in tomcat to a local install of sun web server 6.1, and can't seem to get it to work. the error message i am getting now is:
    [05/Dec/2008:12:44:08] config ( 1640): for host xxx.xxx.xxx.xx trying to GET /cart/index.jsp, handle-processed reports: HTTP2205: The request method is not applicable to the requested resource.
    but that is the only error showing up. i've found some other forum topics involving memory issues (not the case here) and mime.type issues (not the case here), but nothing where this is the only error message showing up.
    any ideas? anyone?

    I deployed the application using a WAR file I created and the Server Manager.
    I've been able to get a JSP running in the $INSTALL_DIR/docs directory (database connectivity, result set printing, session data storing) but not outside of there.
    I switched to "finest" error reporting, but that isn't really helping much either.
    I even deployed one of the sample WAR files that came with the installation (webapps-simple.war), and it failed too, the error message I got was:

    Hi Srinivas,
    There is no need to deploy MapBuilder in an Application Server. You can start it at the command line with for example:
    java -jar mapbuilder.jar -noconnect

  • Help me Deploy WAR file in SUN iPlanet Web Server 6.1 SP7 using JDK1.6 & JS

    Hi All,
    Can any one help me on this.
    I'm using
    JDK1.6
    JSF1.2
    JSTL1.1
    Hibernate3.2.5
    ANT1.7
    JUnit
    HTML
    Oracle10g
    Trying to deploy this war file in SUN iPlanet Web Server 6.1 SP7. Can I use JDK1.6 & JSF1.2 in web server6.1

    What is the exact version of Web Server you are using? Should be in the error logs or try $start -version
    It would be faster if you can capture and cut and paste the data that is sent between firefox and Web Server in both the cases using /usr/sfw/bin/ssltap (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/tools/ssltap.html) or ethereal when you try to view that shtml file. We can see if its any different in both cases and try it from there.
    Also verify the steps given in http://docs.sun.com/source/817-1832-10/pgshtml.html
    mime.types should have :
    type=magnus-internal/parsed-html exts=shtml
    obj.conf should have :
    Service fn="shtml_send" type="magnus-internal/parsed-html" method="(GET|HEAD)"
    When you activate parsing, magnus.conf should have :
    Init funcs="shtml_init,shtml_send" shlib="install_dir/bin/https/bin/Shtml.dll" NativeThreads="no" fn="load-modules"
    Shtml.dll (or libShtml.so on UNIX), is located in install_dir/bin/https/bin for Windows, and install_dir/bin/https/lib for UNIX.

  • Urgent :- Unable to deploy EAR file in Oracle application server

    Hello folks,

    I suspect that something could be wrong with regards to the way the ear
    file has been created.
    Please if someone could pin point the problem and help me understand
    the the above error message , it will be of great help to me and I d
    really appreciate this.

  • Deploying war files on iplanet web server 6.0

    Hello All,
    I tried to deploy an war file on iplanet web server 6.0 using both command line wdeploy and iplanet webserver browser based admin tool. Both the times it did say successfully deployed. I checked the WEB-INF files and it does contain all class files..But the problem is when I try to post a form to one of the class files the error log says as if it cannot find the class file.(I tried the sample app HelloWorld supplied by vendor)

    any help in this regards is appreciated

    Hello,
    I got few steps to deploy the WAR file, if you followed the same steps and got the error then ignore this else try with this steps.
    a) Set your environment variable IWS_SERVER_HOME to your server_root directory.
    b) Add the server_root/bin/https/httpsadmin/bin directory to your classpath.
    c) Configure your virtual server for web applications.
    From the Server Manager page, select the VirtualServerClass tab, select a Class, and click the Manage button.
    Select a Virtual Server and go to the Java Web Apps Settings page for that virtual server. Make sure that the virtual server has Web Apps State turned On, and web-apps.xml is the name of Web Apps File.
    To extract the sample WAR file HelloWorld.war in server_root/plugins/servlets/examples/web-apps/HelloWorld, use the wdeploy command as follows:
    wdeploy deploy -u /hello -i server.iplanet.com -v testvs -d
    /iws60/https-server.mydomain.com/testvs/web-apps/hello
    /iws60/plugins/servlets/examples/web-apps/HelloWorld/HelloWorld.war
    The syntax for the command is as follows:
    wdeploy deploy -u uri_path -i instance -v vs_id [-d directory] war_file
    uri_path Specify the URI prefix (a path to access the web application from the browser).
    instance Specify the server instance name. (Note: Do not include "https" in the front.)
    vs_id Specify the Virtual Server name as it appears on the Manage Virtual Servers page.
    directory Specify a directory to extract WAR files. If this directory doesn't exist already, it will be created for you now.
    war_file Specify the name of the WAR file.
    If the WAR file is extracted successfully, the message "web application deploy successful" appears at the command line.
    For verification, go to the /iws60/https-server.iplanet.com/testvs/web-apps/hello directory. It should have the following contents:
    colors
    index.jsp
    META-INF
    WEB-INF/
    web.xml
    /classes/
    HelloWorldServlet.class
    HelloWorldServlet.java
    SnoopServlet.class
    SnoopServlet.java
    In the server_instance/config directory, the web-apps.xml file should have the following entry:
    <vs>
    <web-app uri="/hello"
    dir="/iws60/https-server.iplanet.com/testvs/web-apps/hello"/>
    </vs>
    Restart the server instance from the command line or go to the admin GUI and apply configuration changes to the server instance.
    Now when you access the webserver instance in your browser, the Error log of that server instance will record successful initialization of the web application environment(web-apps.xml) for the virtual server(vs name). You can access the web application from a browser as follows:
    http://server.Mydomain.com:80/hello/index.jsp
    or:
    http://server.Mydomain.com/hello/
    The syntax is as follows:
    http://vs_urlhost[:vs_port]/uri_path/[index_page]
    Thanks
    Selva
