Deploying Config Templates with LMS 4
Hello,
i tried to deploy configuration templates with Cisco LMS Template Center, thanks to the 10 Cool LMS Tricks to better manage your network i am able to do it now.
Just i don't know why, after deploying these templates the configuration is not save to the startup-config.
another problem i have with the snmp-server location configuration. It seems my template does not support spaces in the textbox.
Any way to put spaces in the snmp location?
<parameter name="snmp-location">
<description>SNMP Server Location</description>
<html-component>textbox</html-component>
<default-value></default-value>
<data-type>string</data-type>
<mandatory>true</mandatory>
<isGlobal>false</isGlobal>
<help-description>snmp-server location</help-description>
<syntax>
<min/>
<max/>
<pattern/>
</syntax>
thanks for your feedback.
alex
I filed CSCtr87633 to track the issue with not being able to save the running config to startup. I had thought this was working, but when I used LMS during CiscoLive!, I had a lot of jobs running, and part of the work involved a Netconfig deployment that also took care of the write mem.
For the space thing, try this template.

Deploying Template with static IP pool failed
Hi,
I've got a cluster with two nodes on Win2012r2. It have been added already configured in SCVMM2012r2. I did however configure the VM Networkt through Logical Switches.
1 - Logical Networks : ProdVMNET, with one site, GVEProdVMNet, where my hosts are and the Production vLAN 3108, subnet 172.31.8.0/24 :
2 - IP Pool linked with my Logical Switch and configured in the same subnet (172.31.8.x/24) :
3 - I've a port profile Uplink, ProdDynamicTeam, for creating the team dedicated to VM Network traffic on host.
4 - This Uplink is bound to my logical Switch, tVMNet5 - Finally, I added th Logical Switch on both my host :
Everything seems to working fine and I made my first VM.
I then created a template with it and tried to deploy it, with Static IP (From a static IP Pool) :
Unfortunately, when my VM start, my host get an APIPA...
Any idea why ?
Did I miss anything ?
Thanks, -
How to disabled the activation of deployed Test VMs from templates with SCVMM 2012 R2
Hello,
I have created templates with key for deploying windows 8 VMs,But i wants do not activate these VMs as it is just a test VM.
Is it possible through SCVMM to deploy VM with key without activation ?
Thanks
RICHA KMThanks for the reply.
My network architecture is exactly like the one described on your paper, with 2 differences:
1. I only have one host in the Production group and one host in the Gateway group
2. The first host has one physical NIC, the second host has 2 NICs, one internal and one with an Internet (routable) IP
After applying the logical switches on the hosts, I lost Internet connectivity on the gateway host (I have no idea why there is no logical Gateway Switch !!!). VMM completed the jobs with no error.
Any thoughts? -
Setting system level deployment.user.cachedir in deployment.config
G'day,
I've been experimenting with JRE 1.5.0_04 on Windows XP.
By default deployment.user.cachedir is set to <user home>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache. However, I want it to be <user home>\Local Settings\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache.
I have managed this as follows.
C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.config contains:
deployment.system.config=file\:C\:/WINDOWS/Sun/Java/Deployment/deployment.propertiesand C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties contains:
deployment.user.cachedir=$USER_HOME\\..\\..\\..\\..\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Sun\\Java\\Deployment\\cacheThis works but is ugly. The problem is that $USER_HOME=<user home>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment. It seems that $USER_HOME and $JRE_HOME are the only two variables for use in deployment properties. Are there any others, in particular, one that mirrors the user's actual home directory?
Thanks,
Chris.G'day,
Open the Java Console and execute "dump system and
deployment properties" which shows property values,
and see if what you want is there.Thanks, but I don't think I can use these at the system level, can I?
I did try using ${user.home} but that doesn't work.
So, are there any variables other than $USER_HOME and $JRE_HOME that can be used when setting system level properties?

Software distribution error with LMS 3.2 regarding flash/memory size
Hello,
I'm accustomed to LMS raising warnings about memory size not being enough when in fact there is enough space (eg : there is 256mb, IOS requires 256mb, but LMS calculates 255.234mb, and says there is not enough memory). I've encoutered that situation many times with LMS 3.1 and just learned to ignore it.
But since I've upgraded to LMS 3.2, we are now getting _errors_ which are preventing us from deploying the IOS, even though there is still enough memory and flash space. I've read in another thread about bug CSCsu49349 but this one should be fixed in LMS 3.2, so I am at lost.
I always download my IOSes from Cisco.com using LMS so that the proper fields are populated.
Here is one sample : I was trying to deploy an IOS to a 2821 router. The IOS weighs 29Mb in reality and I have around 31Mb of free flash, and the whole flash is 64Mb, but I get a catastrophic error. Also note the contradictory warning about the memory size :
Warning - SWIM1065: Minimum RAM requirement of the selected image: 256 MB .
RAM available on the device ( 256 MB) May not be enough to activate the selected image.
Increase the RAM size for the device, select a different image for upgrading, or
specify the RAM size for the image by editing the attributes of the image stored in the software repository.
Warning - SWIM1070: Feature subset of the Active image could not be determined.
Catastrophic - SWIM1200:Selected Flash partition requires minimum (64 MB) to upgrade selected software/image.
Select a different Flash partition for upgrading the image.
Do I need to modify the flash requirement on the image to get around this, or is there a patch available for LMS 3.2 ?
Thanks for the advice,
Alex.Hello,
After running another inventory to make sure, I get the same error. Here are the steps of the distribution process (we can see I have enough room for the IOS, barely, but still enough) :
Afterwards I get the failed message :
And the same error message :
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
I tried everything I could find on the internet but no luck so far. I can successfully deploy MS Visio 2013 to the clients. I also want to be able to uninstall it from the clients. On the client machine Uninstall button is greyed out. This deployment is
installed as "Available" and there is only one deployment type within that MS Visio 2013 Application.
I tried the following uninstall commands in my deployment:
setup.exe /uninstall
setup.exe /uninstall
VisPro
/config .\vispro.ww\uninstallvisio.xml
“\\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\setup.exe” /uninstall VisPro /config "\\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\vispro.ww\uninstallvisio.xml"
\\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\setup.exe /uninstall VisPro /config \\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\vispro.ww\uninstallvisio.xml
I checked Product ID from Setup.xml and I know it is correct. My uninstallvisio.xml' content is below:
<Configuration Product="VisPro">
<Display Level="basic" CompletionNotice="yes" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
<Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" />
</Configuration>
Last night, I downloaded and installed Cumulative Update 1 for SCCM 2012 R2 and I haven't tried the deployment after the update,yet. I will try it today but please let me know what else to check.
Yavuz Selim AtmacaAfter I updated SCCM Server and test client pc with CU1 , I tried to deploy visio as Required. It installed successfully. Then I uninstalled visio by deploying the application with Uninstall Action.
After that I tried to deploy visio as "Available" to see if Software Center Uninstall button works. However visio deployment does not come to Software Center's Available Applications List. I check the status of the deployment under the Deployments monitoring
node and it says Success "Already Compliant". I dont know what it means. Does config manager thinks that visio already installed?
Yavuz Selim Atmaca
2 or 3 hours later that -Succes "Already Compliant"- status of the deployment under the Deployments monitoring node is vanished automatically and Software Center application list showed the new deployment. I installed it and uninstalled it succesfully.
So, you are right Solution is the CU1 but I am still wondering why my available deployment took so time to be visible in Software Center althought I didn't enter any schedule to be available.

RME config archive problem - lms 3.2
just wondering if anyone else has seen this.
about a month or so ago, I grabbed about 6 or 7 patches for our ciscoworks machine, across cm, rme, and cs. (yeah, we were a little behind)
after applying these patches, it seems, all of the 2960s and 4948s are failing the config archive with the following:
cm00139: could not archive config:cause: action: verify that device is managed and credentials are correct. Increase timeout
value if required.
so I've triple checked the credential set applied to these devices, adjusted timeout and retry values, and have gotten nowhere.
Deleting these devices doesn't seem to help, they are rediscovered just fine, but the config archive continues to fail.
Other than maybe trying to reinstall the rme patches (or uninstall) that were recently applied, I'm out of ideas. This is LMS 3.2.1 with
cm 5.2.2
cs 3.3.1
rme 4.3.2
running on windows server 08.
So if anyone may have seen this and/or has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks - chrisok, so it's been a year and a half since last post. So in addition to the above mentioned archive failures with the 4948s, the 4948s were also showing up in config out of sync summary. The only difference that were showing between running and startup was the ntp clock period.
I did see that the clock period statement was in the exclude list for routers and a bunch of other things, but not for the 4948s. I added this as an exclusion yesterday. Today when I checked, all 4948s are archiving now, and are off the out of sync report. Never would have crossed my mind to check there, but that exclusion seems to have done the trick. Maybe someone else can use this if they're seeing the same thing. - chris -
Deploy custom templates in Office 2013
Hi All,
We have been using the backstage view of Office 2010 to deploy custom templates, as described in the TechNet article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178976(v=office.14).aspx
We recently upgraded to Office 2013 and have not been successful in getting our templates to show up in the backstage view. We have tried creating the spotlight registry keys under
the \Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Spotlight but this was also unsuccessful.
Has anyone been able to deploy custom templates using the 2007/10 spotlight approach outlined in that TechNet article?
Thanks
DanThank you Max,
Can you please specify how the permissions should be set to allow Word 2013 to access SP 2013 via the XML file? Is it enough to simply be logged into SharePoint with Contribute rights to the library or is there more that needs to be done?
Hi Katie,
I believe Contribute permissions are enough for this case.
Have a look at the following solution, see if it works for your situation:
http://zasharepoint.blogspot.com/2014/04/sorry-we-couldnt-find-your-file-is-it.html
More hints to troubleshoot this issue:
Have you tested this issue on another machine?
Is proxy used?
Does the SharePoint environment has complex permission settings (e.g. the inheriting permissions are broken, or cross domain environment, etc.)?

Performance management redeploying the template with contents
Hi
we are currently configring the Performance appraisal template.
We want to remove the template from the employee screen once the objective is approved by the manager and employee at the beginning of the year.
Again the template need to be deployed back to the employees for the mid year review and also for the Final appraisal.
Can anyone provide the tcode/process for distributing and withdrawing the template with the contents during mid year and final appraisal with the data entered by the employee at the start of the year
thanks in advance
SashaHello Sasha,
check for the validiy dates under the Enhancements DV.
This what you can do - At the category level select the Enhancement : Default Validity Period - Standard
Then at the template level - in the Processing tab- select Futher Template Behaviour - in the window that pops up add the enhancement of the validity dates.
As standard functionality the validity is " STANDARD" but you would need to copy and enhance this to meet your requirement if you have to avoid the manul work of someone locking and unlocking the template now and then.
Hope this helps,
Regards,

JRE 1.6u11: can deployment.config point to a PC location?
I am an Oracle DBA. I need to configure JRE 1.6u11 to use trusted.certs file located on the PC. I can "make it work" if I place the deployment.config file in C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment with it's key, deployment.system.config, pointing to a network location for the deployment.properties file. Deployment.properties file, in turn, then has a key telling where to find trusted.certs, again, in a network location.
But, I am unable to set the key, deployment.system.config to look for deployment.properties in the same directory that deployment.config uses, namely, C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties. It seems like the key, deployment.system.config is not set up to point to a PC path, because trusted.certs is not found. I read that deployment.system.config is supposed to describe a URL. Writing the path as a URL has not helped (file://C:\WINDOWS\Sun...).
I wish to place these files in a location that is not user-specific. I do not wish to put them on the network.
Do you know why I can't do this, or do you have any suggestions that would make this work?
Thanks for your time.Turns out I had learned that a file is specified in URL as [file://], but in this case I only needed [file:/]. Once I changed this, everything worked just fine.
My only question now, is since I answered my own question, do I get the points? -
Deploying custom templates only shows first template
Hi guys, I'm having an issue deploying custom templates.
I have followed the steps outlined here (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178976.aspx) but when I open up Word/New I see the "CompanyName" under custom templates but when I open it I only see the first template "Letter".
I created the following entry in the registry:
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Spotlight\Providers\Companyname with a string ServiceURL pointing to the path of the xml file.
The XML file contains:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<o:featuredcontent lcid="1033" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">
<o:application id="WD">
<o:featuredtemplates startdate="2011-03-01" enddate="2015-03-01">
<!-- TEMPLATE 1 -->
<o:featuredtemplate title="Letter" source="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Templates\Companyname\Letter.dotx" >
</o:featuredtemplate>
<!-- TEMPLATE 2 -->
<o:featuredtemplate title="Budget" source="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Templates\Companyname\Budget.dotx" >
</o:featuredtemplate>
</o:featuredtemplates>
</o:application>
</o:featuredcontent>
I read in another post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officesetupdeploy/thread/fbc4bf23-c9fb-4a6c-a981-49f68127bf77/) where someone was having the same problem and advised deleting the ..Spotlight\Content\Companyname\WD1031 reg key but that
hasn't help. I still only see 1 template.
Any help would be appreciated.Step.1
Close Word and delete the following registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Spotlight\Content
Step.2
Replace your XML file with the following sample
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<o:featuredcontent lcid="1033" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">
<o:application id="WD">
<o:featuredtemplates startdate="2011-03-01" enddate="2015-03-01">
<!-- TEMPLATE 1 -->
<o:featuredtemplate title="Letter" source="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Templates\Companyname\Letter.dotx" >
<o:media mediatype="" filename="" source="" />
<o:preview filename="" source="" />
</o:featuredtemplate>
<!-- TEMPLATE 2 -->
<o:featuredtemplate title="Budget" source="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Templates\Companyname\Budget.dotx" >
<o:media mediatype="" filename="" source="" />
<o:preview filename="" source="" />
</o:featuredtemplate>
</o:featuredtemplates>
</o:application>
</o:featuredcontent>
Tips: Keep <o:media ---> and <o:preview ---> even you don't use them.
Step.3
Restart Word, check result

OS X deployment.config and deployment.properties not working?
I have a deployment.config file at: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/lib/deploy/deployment.config with the following contents:
deployment.system.config.mandatory=false
deployment.system.config=file\:/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/lib/deployment.properties
The deployment.properties file is located at: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/lib/deployment.properties with the following contents:
#deployment.properties
deployment.macosx.check.update.locked
deployment.macosx.check.update=false
deployment.expiration.check.enabled.locked
deployment.expiration.check.enabled=false
None of this is working. Do I have the wrong directories or syntax somewhere?
The documentation at : System- and User-Level Properties says that the deployment.config file will override user settings when placed at ${deployment.java.home}/lib/deploy/deployment.config.
It seems like the deployment.config file is being ignored completely. I am working with Java 7u40 and higher. Nothing seems to do it.
Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!Yeah, it only happened to me in the last couple days, so I'm not sure what's happening (latest OS and latest version of Logitech Control Center (but a somewhat old MX Revolution)). Logitech's software is notoriously flakey on Macs, so I'll just chalk it up to that

Distributing a deployment.config and deployment.properties for proxy settings.
I am trying to define the minimum config required to populate a deployment.properties with just proxy settings and point to this with a deployment.config.
I am finding that that recent versions of 1.7 and 1.8 do not adhere to the browsers settings properly and not all traffic is following the proxy rules in use by the browser. However, if I manually override all traffic to a proxy the applets running on internet based sites function (no intranet sites use java here). If I use a deployment.config, I can see the resulting proxy settings are enabled in the control panel app and the appear exactly the same as per user manual settings, however they are not correctly used.have any ideas?
Any one have any ideas?.
ThanksHi Kevin,
I am actually working on the same problem.
I need to deploy Java 1.4.2_07 on clients with a mandatory setup. I tryied the deployment.config and deployment.properties file but didn't get it working yet.
I guess we should share knowledge to find a working solution.
It would be nice, if you could email me at:

Deployment.config ignored?
Ver: 1.5.0_05-b05
I've been trying to set a system cache directory using deployment.config to define a centralised configuration file without success.
It seems as if the deployment.config file is simply not being accessed, as even with deployment.system.config.mandatory set true I don't get an error for an invalid deployment.system.config
Can I get any initialisation information to determine if the process is even looking for the deployment.config file?What is the content of your deployment.config file ?
the value of the property
deployment.system.config
should be a URL to the systenm config file.
note that this is in a properties file, so certain characters such as color ":" and forward slash must be escaped.

Any one using/deployed Telematrix phones with Cisco Call Manager
Yes, it does:
Cisco Unified IP Phone Series 7900

Config on CUCM itself is no different from any other phones neither other requirements like DLUs.
Of course you should already have APs for connectivity.
