Deploying Expired Update in SCCM 2012 R2

We need to deploy an update to Silverlight to allow one of our web based applications to run correctly. SCCM is currently configured to wait 3 months before expiring a superseded update. Microsoft released an update in Decembers patch release which expired
the update that could of been deployed by SCCM. This latest update was subsequently expired by Microsoft meaning I have no updates available to deploy to the clients. My questions are:
1. If I increase the time period of 3 months to wait before expiring a superseded update, will SCCM rescan all updates and then make expired updates available if they fall within this newly configured time period?
2. If I then revert the setting after deploying the update will it then rescan again and make expire updates again that are older than 3 months?

No. The update you speak of, to my knowledge, was not superseded, it was expired directly by Microsoft. As for updates it may in turn have superseded, no, they will remain expired as there is no unexpire process -- once expired, always expired to my knowledge.
Microsoft simply needs to issue an updated update (that of course is not expired).

  • Deploy Java Updates using SCCM 2012 SP1 and SCUP 2011

What is the best way to deploy Java updates using sccm 2012 SP1 and SCUP 2011?

    I didn´t find Kent´s blog useful when talking about Java. I can deploy Adobe products fine, but I have to import Java manually because not having Shavlik certificate. So with that said, I have the fallowing problem;
I have full offline installer unpacked, .msi file and Data1.cab. When I´m importing these binaries to SCUP, I only can point to .msi. Doing that, installation fails in client side fails because of lack of data1.cab fine, which is the main file.
Should I use some other downloaded files of Java? I couldn´t find any Java-update-file only type of files to download.

  • Query about expired updates in SCCM 2012

    Hi,
We have requirement to include Feature pack updates in SCCM 2012.
For testing purpose, We have modified SUP settings in CAS to include feature packs and run the synchornization. so All feature packs update are synchornized and available(The icon with the green arrow) in SCCM 2012. Since this is for testing, we  roll
back the changes in SUP (unchecked Feature packs) and after we run synchornication, Feature pack updates are showing as Expired in SCCM console.
I just want to know if we include Feature packs in SUP and run synshornization again, Will that expired feature pack updates show as normal updates(Green icon) in sccm console?

i have not testes this behavior but i think,it should work as you expected ,the expired feature pack updates will show as normal after you enable and sync is done as the metadata will be overwritten.

    Hi,
You could also check Windowsupdate.log on the client.

Now i can able to deploy the software update from SCCM 2012 R2 without any erro to the windows 7clients, but client side when i check there is no update installed in the clients , but seems there is no error in the client logs

    Hi,
I'd start with running a "Software Updates Scan Cycle" from the configuration manager control panel applet and check the log file Windowsupdate.log, WUAhandler.log.

  • Installing MS Office Updates using SCCM 2012 patch management.

    Hi,
We have SCCM 2012 in our customer environment, we would like to deploy MS office 2012 non-security updates using SCCM patch management. Can someone help me how to configure non-security updates on SCCM 2012 and deploy the same.
    Regardsm
    Madhan

The process of deploying non-security updates and security updates are the same.
    As a side note:
To reduce the numbers of required updates, you can also download service packs, and other updates (msp files) and copy them to the update folder of your Office installation source. Then they will be installed as part of the Office deployment process.

    Please help me with this.

You can use a typical/standard application deployment method (just a minor change because of MSPfile).
Here are some guides, for typical application deployment:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682159.aspx
    http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/03/sccm-2012-sp1-step-by-step-guide-part_7075.html
Familiarise yourself with these methods, then return to the example suggested by Torsten for specific steps for MSP:

  • How would I rollback or remove a problematic software update using SCCM 2012?

How would I rollback or remove a problematic software update using SCCM 2012?
Primarily I'm thinking these patches would be Windows Vista/7/8 OS patches, but would include other Microsoft updates as well (eg. Office, etc.).

    Hi,
You need to uninstall it using software distribution like a package/program, here is a script that can help you with the uninstallation.

  • List of recommended hotfixes/updates for SCCM 2012 R2 agents?

    Hopefully I ask this correctly.
Is there a list of recommended hotfixes or updates for SCCM 2012 R2 agents?  Things like .Net or WMI updates.
I am seeing the occasional agents lose connectivity, and I want to make sure I have a complete or recommended list of non-SCCM hotfixes before I move forward.
    Thanks!
    Andy

To my knowledge there aren't really any kind of recommended hotfixes to apply before a client installation, except for the prerequisites (that the client installs by itself). But as a best practice, always make sure that a client is up to date when it comes
    to patches.

  • Distribute Customer Updates in SCCM 2012 (CU's) using a Task Sequence

I want to utilize a Task Sequence to Distribute Customer Updates to SCCM 2012 Clients.  I currently have 2 collections for pre-CU 4 clients, one for 32 Bit Clients (x86) , one for 64 Bit Clients (x64).  I have a package pertinent to each collection
which I use to distribute the updates.
However, instead of segregating them by collection, I would like to have one big collection, and have the Task Sequence sort out which package should load on which collection.
I've tried using the RUN COMMAND LINE, and INSTALL PACKAGE options to no avail.  Is there a way to utilize a Task Sequence for this undertaking, or should I just continue the way I'm currently doing it.
    Thanks ,
    Dan

You can set Collection Variables for the two collections, then add running condition in the Task Sequence Steps for corresponding collections.

  • Windows 8.1 clients are not detecting updates deployed to them through SCCM 2012 R2

    Hello,
We are using SCCM 2012 R2 to deploy software updates.
On Windows 8.1 SCCM does not show certain updates as being needed and isn't deploying them to the clients even though Windows Update will show them as high importance. These same updates are being detected and deployed to Windows 8 clients successfully.
I believe that the update catalog that WSUS uses may have some incorrect detection rules for the following updates:
    2917933
    2913320
    2913270
    2913152
    2909569
    2904440
    2904266
    2903939
    2899189
    2893984
    2893294
    2892074
    2916626
    2898785
My automatic deployment rules include Windows 8.1 in the product category. I have even created a standalone rule for Windows 8.1 that builds a new package and the behavior is the same.
We only have a handful of Windows 8+ clients so this hasn't been a big issue but others may want to keep an eye out.

I am also running into this issue.  After "checking online for updates" on one of my machines in office I found that there were 21 important updates for my 8.1 box.  When I cross reference them in SCCM under All Software Updates, it appears these
8.1 updates are not listed.  They are however listed for all other OS.
10 seconds after typing this, I went in to verify my WSUS ->  Products and Classifications settings and come to find 8.1 and 2012 R2 weren't selected, even though it's an option in SCCM.  Go figure!  This wasn't the end though.  After
running a Synchronization, my issue still wasn't resolved.  Went back to check my settings and they again were changed back to having these OS unchecked.  Finally, a solution!  I found that in SCCM, under Administration tab, Site Configuration
    > Sites > ABC - Mysitename, right click and scroll down to "Configure Site Components" > Software Update Point.  This setting (although the same as is in WSUS) takes precedence, thus was rolling my settings back to the original configuration
    in WSUS.
So long story short, even though my automatic deployment rules stated approve all windows 7/8/8.1 criticals/importants, 8.1 was getting skipped for the most part because my WSUS server wasn't syncing with Microsoft for all of the updates I required.  I
did have a couple of updates that squeezed through because they were categorized as "Security Updates for Windows 8, 8.1".
Not sure if this is the solution you were looking for, but your thread got me started in the right direction, hopefully this response helps in the same way!
    Thanks!

  • Deploy Internet explorer 11 with latest updates using SCCM 2012

    Hello,
I'd like deploy IE11 with the latest updates included. The reason is that I want the IE 11 enterprise mode to be available as soon as IE11 gets installed.
I don't want to wait an update scan cycle to trigger the installation of the updates.
What is the best way to achieve that using SCCM 2012 ?
    Regards,
    Michel

    Hi,
You have to capture the installation package with latest update by using IEAK 11 on the computer which has the IE11 with this feature.
    GP to enable this feature:
Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Let users turn on and use Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu
This is only for Windows 7 computer.
As I mentioned above, for Windows 8.1, we can only deploy Windows 8.1 update 1 to add this feature to IE11, since there is no separated update can be installed for IE11 on Windows 8.1 to implement this.

    Update (32-bit version)

  • MS SQL Server 2012 Updates via SCCM 2012 R2

I'm trying to determine if SCCM 2012 R2 can manage and deploy Hotfixes, Updates and Service packs for SQL Server 2012. Can someone please confirm that SCCM can manage this, how to download SQL Server Hotfixes, Updates and Service Packs into SCCM and where
I can find instructions on setting up my MS SQL Server computers to receive SQL updates from SCCM.
    Thanks.

ConfigMgr absolutely can deploy updates and service packs for SQL. You just need to choose the versions you want in Software Update Point Products and Classifications. It's no different than deploying any other Microsoft updates.
    http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/04/sccm-2012-sp1-step-by-step-guide-part.html
Is it a good idea? I don't think so. I think SQL updates should be part of a carefully planned (and tested) manual upgrade.

  • Reduce huge update in sccm 2012 r2

I have installed sccm 2012 with SUP role installed too. I have trouble of huge update coming every week from Microsoft .I selected some classification of Updates like critical & security & updates & roll-ups .as I said users are complaining of
huge updates and I decided to reduce unnecessary Updates. Is that a good Idea to omit category update and security and just having critical and roll-ups ?

of course users are not complaining of the time of update but the size of updates are make them crazy because their C
drive go full .they use disk clean up and delete c:\windows\softwareDestributon\download But that become full after a few week .
Ah, thanks for providing further information about the complaint.
So, the issue is, the C: drive on the computers of users is small?
The ConfigMgr client cache (ccmcache) and WUA cache (SoftwareDistribution) are both self-maintaining and will purge un-needed content after a time, but, in your case, it is not soon enough ?
You could consider deploying in a more-frequent cycle, so that the cached content is purged more quickly, but this means that more frequent updating activity would occur (and potentially more frequent disruption to users).
Ultimately, more space on C: would be of benefit, but that might not be easy for you to achieve (e.g. increasing the size of the volume), so, can you analyse the used-space vs free-space to determine what can be cleaned up? (eg temp files and other unnecessary
    data) ?

  • Automaitc Updates through SCCM 2012 not showing up on the updates status

    Hi,
I have configured Automatic Update rule on SCCM 2012 and it works fine but on the client machine i see this.
This is the update status it shows which means updates are not being installed since long time.

Why would this happen? please suggest.

    Hi,
That is as expected as the updates are installed using SCCM and not the Windows Update Agent, if you deploy a client using SCCM OSD and install software updates using SCCM and not WSUS/Windows Update it will actually say:
