Deploying iTunes in lab environments campuswide

We are creating an iTunes U page for our institution (small college), but my question involves the deployment of iTunes across our campus. What is the best, most streamlined method for deploying and using iTunes over a campus network that has migrating user profiles?
We have several lab environments in which students would access iTunes, and we want to minimize the issues involving storage limits with migrating profiles, when any particular user will login to access iTunes from any particular workstation. Specifically, what would be the profile ramifications from accessing the user agreement to syncing their devices? Furthermore, we are mostly a Windows-based campus, so we're looking for any additional caveats that might occur.
Any thoughts, suggestions or references would be greatly appreciated.

  • Deploy itunes using group policy

I've found a few links out there and I feel like I'm really close, but I can't get iTunes to work via MS Group Policy Deployment.  I've followed this article: http://techierambles.blogspot.com/2011/01/deploy-itunes-or-quicktime-msi-files.h tml but I'm not sure if things have just changed too much since 10.1 or what.
My main issue, I believe, is that I can't get the Apple Application Support MSI to deploy.  I've tried assigning it and publishing it, but no joy.  However, without that MSI the iTunes MSI won't install properly.  Anyone ever run into this?
Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 clients, iTunes 10.5.2 64-bit, no QuickTime (not a requirement in the newest version of iTunes).
    Thanks,
    Lauren

  • Deploying itunes, connecting phone, icloud wizard shows up. Where can I disable that?

I am deploying itunes to hundreds of computers with limited user rights.
This works out fine, but when they connect their phone, the iCloud Wizard starts. The users are not allowed to use iCloud because of security restrictions. And they do not have access to install software, or make changes to the computer. On the other hand they are allowed to connect their phones.
How do I prevent, in the installation, that the wizard is activated when the phone connects. Is there a registry key og is there a possibility in the .inf files?
I have opened the Msi in Orca and 7zip, and there is no clue there for how to disable this wizard. Or preventing it from starting when I connect a phone.
I am running this registry addition, based on the table below. But the wizard is a new feature and there is no diable key for it yet.

We have a requirement to deploy SCOM 2012 and a questioned arise.
is SCOM  security compliant (ISO and HIPAA ) to deploy in health care environments.
I would appreciate if you can clarify me on this regards.

    Hi Raj,
As we know, SCOM is used to monitor objects healthy based on monitors or rules created within management packs. After searching the internet, it seems like that few article take ISO and HIPAA together with SCOM.
What do you want to achieve with SCOM?

  • Windows 8 App Deployment in School Lab environment?

After doing some reading and research on Windows 8 Store app deployment from sources like
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39685 and this forum and I am getting pretty depressed.  Here is one part of my scenario which is pretty simple I think.
Lab of 20 Dell 3011 AIO Touchscreens that were depoyed with Win8Ent via MDT2012U1.  For simplicity I will talk about a subset of my problem.  I have 3 classes of Kindergartners who use the lab.  The students aren't capable of really logging
in themselves so the teacher logs them all in to a shared account for each class since all they do is web / app stuff.  I don't want to create 60 accounts for this young of kids since they can't handle the process anyway.
Here is my understanding of what I would have to do if I wanted to install Fresh Paint (a great free app) for all the students to use.
    1.  Create a minimum of 4 Microsoft accounts due to device limits of store app install.
    2.  Assign / attach those Microsoft accounts to specific lab machines (while logged in as each shared student account).
    3.  Login to each of my 20 lab machines as each of the 3 share accounts (which can't have roaming profile since Windows <-> Microsoft account association now needs to be unique).  This would be a minimum of 60 individual logins for this one
    app and one grade.
    4.  Install the app on a per user / per device basis.
    5.  Potentially repeat process any time an update is released since the students can't handle it themselves.
I think this is the majority of the process, am I leaving any important steps or details out?  This sounds like it would be HOURS of work to install ONE app for ONE grade.  I could potentially need 5-10 unique apps per grade.
This just isn't feasible on any type of scale.  Even this limited amount of devices / users is overkill when dealing with users who are to young to maintain their own devices or exist in lab environment.  In reading the doc refrenced above it doesn't
seem like there is a solution for this offered by MDT, SCCM or Intune?  Please tell me I am missing the magic deploy button?  Also I don't even want to begin to think about apps that aren't free and managing that.
    Thanks for any helpful info.

No, you're not missing the magic deploy button :(
If a Windows Store App (aka Modern UI app aka Metro App) is offered via the Windows Store, and not offered directly by the application developer, the only legitimate way to get that app is via the Store, and that requires an MS account.
    ConfigMgr offers two "deployment" methods;
    a) deep-link into the web-based Windows Store. The logged-on user must have an MS account and use that account to authenticate to the store. even if the app is free.
    b) sideload. requires the appx installation package.
There are some other suggestions, but they are unsupported, and rather complicated:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/763dc3d6-8dd2-4157-8f49-159f0826e97a/install-windows-store-apps-to-all-users-or-where-to-get-the-appx

The last time I spoke with our MS contacts (deployment engineers @ MS), even those guys can't get the MS free apps to sideload.
All the documentation around sideloading appears to be catering for situations where a company has developed that app themselves, or, has commissioned a developer to create a custom app for the company.
Apps which are offered via the Store, seem to only be available via the store. I'm not sure if there is some kind of contractual obligation with MS which demands this? (i.e. in the store means no distribution via other means?)
At this time there are no options to federate an on-premises AD to the Store either. Which would be a nice option, even if it limited the user to free apps.

  • Deploying iTunes 11.0.4 for Windows

I am having issues prepping iTunes 11.0.4 for deployment via SCCM 2012.
    Using the iTunes64.exe for 11.0.4 and commandline switches (NO_ASUW=1 NO_BONJOUR=1 BONJOUR_IS_INSTALLED=1 DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS="0" SCHEDULE_ASUW=0 REGSRCH_MEDIA_DEFAULTS=0 IAcceptLicense=Yes) I can get iTunes installed.
At first launch the following message appears: "The Bonjour service can't be found. Bonjour is required for sharing music with others, playing music through AirPlay speaker, and connectivng to Apple TV, and using iPhone and iPod touch Remote. To repair this issue, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
    I don't need Bonjour installed.
Is there anyway to prevent this message from appearing?

I found why it defaults back to the wizard. I noticed in  C:/users/(User)/AppData/Roaming/Apple  Computer/iTunes/iTunesPerfs.xml file is deleted from this directory upon  exiting iTunes. When I manully restore this file itunes starts with my  correct settings. Why the .xml file being deleted I don't know. iTunes is deleting the file when you exit so I guess there is just a bug.

  • DirectAccess deployment in a LAB on 2012 R2

I´ve deployed DA EDGE server on 2012 R2 in a LAB enviroment. I don´t have a plublic domain name and PKI infra. So I did a quick deploy using public IP as a name, distributed pre-build policies to a test laptop, changed the connetion from AD LAN to a public
internet connection and started testing this out. The problem is, that laptop is has a status "connecting" on a DA connetion for ages. Nothing happends. On event viewer I see some DNS errors, because it cannot register itself into public DNS server.
On my DA server, I did a quick deploy. It has direct NIC to internet and another to corporate LAN (AD). All status is green. I checked this two article, but does not apply to me, all good:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2980635
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/ripom/archive/2014/07/25/direct-access-status-always-quot-connecting-quot-on-windows-8.aspx
Any tips? Is it possible to do DA with public IP and not with public domain?

    Hi,
First, please try to install the DirectAccess troubleshooting tool on the client. It will tell us what's wrong with the DirectAccess.
To download this tool, please click the link below:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=41938
Besides, what's the version of your client OS? If it's a Windows 7, then it is necessary to deploy the PKI.
Also, here is a good guide about how to troubleshooting directaccess:

  • Deploying iTunes and plugging an iPhone for the 1st time

    Hello everybody,
I'm going tu upgrade iTunes to 9.2.1 on a feew weeks for the entire park.
I enabled the parental control to doesn not allow the acces to the Apple store.
I put the ipsw file on a network share.
So when iTunes will be deployed I will send a mail with the procedure, how to upgrate the iOS.
    Here is the problem :
There are a lot of people who haven't synced their iPhone with iTunes.
So when they will plug for the first time their iPhone to the computer, iTunes will ask to register. So they will have to click on "Ask later". After that, an erreor occurs "problem to acces to iTunes Store" : that's noral because there is no access to the iTUnes store.
When we click on OK, at this time, finaly, we are on the main screen, and start the upgrate.
So there is the question :
Is there a way to skip all the introduce screen when an iPhone is plugged for the 1st time to a computer, and have the main screen directly?
    Thank you very much.
    Florian

  • Deploying iTunes 10 OS X Server

We are running Software Updates through our OS X server currently running 10.6.3.
Our client stations will pull and install iTunes 10 from the server, but we receive a "This copy of iTunes is corrupt..." message when trying to run the application.
What can I check? The update could be corrupt, can I re-download the update to the server?
Manually downloading iTunes 10 from the website and reinstalling manually works just fine.

    Solved it.
Our problem was our server, I guess we had some type of corruption.
    Solution:
    archive OD server
    demote server to standalone
    promote back to master
    restore OD database
now both 10.4 and 10.5 clients can log in

  • Deploying Itunes with Restrictions

We would like implement itunes restrictions in our company, but I have problems with regiter keys.
    I prefer the following restrictions.
    - Automatic and user-initiated checking for new versions of iTunes and device software updates
    - Displaying Genius suggestions while browsing or playing media
    - Automatically discovering Apple TV systems
    - Registering new devices with Apple
    - Subscribing to podcasts
    - Playing Internet radio
    - Library sharing with local network computers also running iTunes
I have HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Apple Computer, Inc..\iTunes\Parental Controls\Default folder created and DWORD Adminflags etc added and then the admin flag changed to 46D3.but I not getting the desired result.
    What am I doing wrong?

I doubt very much that anyone will be able to answer your question. I have never seen similar requests answered. Some of your things are controlled from the iTunes preferences file which can change with iTunes versions so even if you manage to hack it, it could break after an upgrade.
I wonder if a simpler approach might be to block access to the store domains via whatever filtering software you use in your company.
    phobos.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
The library sharing is provided by Bonjour, so you have various options. Prevent its loading at start up.
Uninstall it. Or even don't install it at all. The iTunes set up programs contains the various msi files for installing iTunes components. If you extracted them and left out bonjour?
It sounds as though you probably know how to extract msi files, but a method I have is to run iTunessetup from the cmd with /extract.
    iTunessetup.exe /extract %TEMP%
To extract into the Windows temp folder.
Still I could be wrong, maybe someone with have the answer.

  • Deploy iTunes Via Active Directory

I would like to publish iTunes as well as Quicktime using Group policies in our Active Directory. This seems to be close to impossible as far as I can tell. Is this possible, or will it be possible in the future? Trying to point to the .MSI fails because it must be called by Setup as far as I can tell.

    hi Matthew!
hmmmm. MacMuse and Buegie have-been-doing-research/have-some-resources on related issues ... if you don't get an answer here soon, maybe try reposting over in "using itunes?" you get a lot of the SDK hands over there too, so you may well also get some good feedback from random passers-by.

  • ITunes 10.4 Deployment Documentation?

Forgive me if the answer is obvious, but I've looked all over and just haven't been able to find what I'm looking for...
Is there any "official" Apple documentation for packaging and deploying iTunes?  Or perhaps a "customization wizard"?
I'm looking for answers to questions such as; where are the preferences stored and what files and registry settings
would need to be copied, etc.
Version 10.1.2.17 saved the preferences to the "iTunesPrefs.xml" files in %user%\AppData\Apple Computer\ITunes and
%user%\AppData\Apple Computer\iTunes, but at first blush it appears version 10.4.0.80 may be saving some information
elsewhere, also.  But I'm having a tough time figuring out exactly where.
I'm using Wise Package Studio to create a transform...  pretty simple with v10.1.  Seem to be struggling a bit with v10.4,
so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Deployment of iTunes

I would like to deploy iTunes to about 60 Windows XP SP2 machines. I have looked a number of locations for such information and have not been successful. Does anyone know if there is an .MSI for iTunes or if the .EXE has such a thing as a silent install and what the flags would be?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You will need to navigate to the local temp directory in Windows(assuming that's what your using since you're referring to an MSI package). When you launch the downloaded file from Apple(.exe file) an MSI installer package will then be extracted to the local temp directory(can easily be accessed by entering %TEMP% in the run dialog. Once you have the MSI package you can then apply a transform or just run a silent install.
    Good Luck

  • How are you tracking deployed software versions for traceability?

I am curious how others are tracking deployed software versions in automated test environments.
I am working on a medical device tester and we have a somewhat inefficient method for keeping track of all version numbers. I would like to know what tools are available to automate tracking version throughout a project, from build to viewing later. Or, what methods are typical in this type of environment.
Essentially, we need to be able to say at any given moment what software version is running at 3 remote locations on several deployed systems.
For simply automating the process of viewing the version number programmatically, I found this, but we've had issues with it:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D45E3A1E694815AD86257173005CFD36
This solution requires a "separate" installer to get the .NET framework onto the target PC. Also, it doesn't work (to my knowledge) with the Help>>About window.

    Dennis,
Thanks for replying. We are using SVN. The exact ECO process for this project is under construction as it is a relatively new project and deployments will be at our customer's site. We use JIRA for tracking specific change requests.
Here's an example of our basic process:
    - Software changes made (according to JIRA tasks) and source code checked in
    - Builds released per schedule with version numbers (from JIRA projects) hard-coded into the application
    - Builds deployed at different locations & times
Here's what I'd like to see to improve things:
    - Builds released with version numbers generated from one of the following:
       1. Loaded from JIRA release numbers - maybe auto-generated for reference by LabVIEW when building the application
       2. Part of a custom build launcher
             >> This would be a custom interface that runs functions like those in Application Builder palette while also sending version info
             >> Perhaps it could prompt the user for version info or read from something auto-generated.
    - Builds should automatically make version numbers visible within the application (for example, LabVIEW has the Help>>About window)
    - Build numbers should be programmatically/dynamically accessible without having to install an additional .NET framework that isn't listed in 'Additional Installers'
Curious if there are any tools that support these kinds of things. I am aware of Deploy by Wirebird Labs and Proligent by Averna, although I am lacking in knowledge about specific features.
