Deploying Jabber on PC and MAC for BE-6K

Hi,
i ask your help to clarify if i can deploy using BE6K jabber softclient o PC and MAC for a customer that doesn't want to synchronize its user DB with CUCM, or for example does not have one.
I am asking because looking at the deploying guide for Jabber where it is used as softclient and IM/presence CLient in an ON premise fashion, it seems that a synchronization with a Directory Service is needed:
What happen if the customer doesn't have it?
Can i use Jabber in any case?
Thanks
V

Hi,
Sure, it's possible to use without a directory server.
To provision the user in the first place just add manually or use bulk upload.  I'm assuming that you are doing something like this now.
You then need to tell the Jabber clients to use the UDS for contact information instead of LDAP.  Take a look at for details on how to do this.

Andy

  • Where can I down load older versions of FireFox for windows and Mac for testing my application? I need to have copies of version 3, 4 and 5.

    My tesm develops .net applications that must support many browsers and we need access to download older versions of FireFox for windows and mac computers, so that we can test our application prior to rolling out a new version.
    Where can I download older versions of FireFox

    Firefox 3.5 is an antique version that is chock-full of security vulnerabilities.<br>
    Firefox 3.6 also contains security vulnerabilities; it stopped being supported on April 24.

    If you can't run the latest version because your system doesn't meet the requirements, it's highly recommended that you use another browser that is secure. TenFourFox is a third-party build of Firefox that is kept up-to-date and runs on Mac OS X 10.4 and PowerPC Macs (as a side note, I've never seen the site go down; whatever problems James noticed 9 months ago must've been a fluke).

    If your system can run the latest version, but you want to downgrade because you've experienced problems, please start a new thread and someone will try to help you.
    If you understand the security risks but want to downgrade anyway,

    Has anyone tried deploying Adobe Extension Manager and/or Toolkit for CreateJS through Group Policy. Any tips for gettig it to work?

    We haven't tried to deploy Extension Manager through Group Policy. Maybe you can consider Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition (AAMEE): http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html .

  • School deployment with Windows, Linux and Mac Os

    Hi,
    we have a project with a school where they want to make a classroom with 20 imacs. The imacs will have 3 systems (Mac, Win and Linux) at the same time.
    They want the possibility to make something like the pc does with Rembo: When they need to format and reinstall the 20 imacs, do it over the network from a server.
    Is it possible on iMacs?
    Thank you very much for your help.

    I have no idea if Dell = best of PC (use to be IBM, DEC, HP, Compaq) but I hand build my own. And a Mac is never as good at Windows and has a number of shortcoming when it coems to running Windows natively.
    So I have to ask. Sometimes general purpose is the best of none and all the headaches.
    Paragon has tools to deploy and move OS from virtual to physical and back, and between hardware. There are enterprise editions and tools. Ideally you just boot off a server and get your own profile and image no matter where you are.
    OS X Server can run OS X Clients off VMs. And yes it would be nice to support any microcomputer or workstation or whatever. I am not the type to go for all in one anything iMac-ish. Give me a hard drive for each and don't try to mix Grub, MBR, GPT, NTFS along with HFS and EXT3.
    You do know that you are VERY limited in and pushing what falls in "supported" and what partition table will handle this, as well as keeping Windows booting on Mac.
    Boot Camp Assistant is not designed for such chores.

  • I need advice on setting up numerous iPads and Macs for use in a school

    Hi
    The school I work with has purchased 15 iPads and currently runs 6 macs. As I understand it there are limitations to the number of devices (both mac and iPad included) you can tie to one apple id.
    I need to know what you need to do in order to get numerous devices connected and more importantly managed through a single apple id.
    The iPads are to be used as an educational tool for the students and will be completely locked down in terms of web / youtube twitter access.
    Thanks

    For the iPads, you can use Apple Configurator to install apps on all 15 iPads using a single Apple ID. For paid apps, you will need to enroll in Apple's Education VPP program http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/ which will allow a single Apple ID to purchase multiple licenses of an app. And best of all, you can save 50% of the cost on most apps when buying 20 copies or more. So even if you only need 15 licenses of a paid app, its cheaper to purchase 20 through VPP and save 50%. Using Apple Configurator, I would "Supervise" the iPads and install the apps (and configuration profiles) to all iPads.
    Apple Configurator Resources
    PDF: http://www.apple.com/iphone/business/docs/iOS_Apple_Configurator_Mar12.pdf
    Video: http://www.apple.com/education/resources/videos/#introduction-to-apple-configura tor
    Help Pages: http://help.apple.com/configurator/mac/1.0/
    I'm not sure if they have a similar program to VPP for the OS X computers…
    But the limit you are referring to is for a single personal Apple ID (not for multiple users) that is allowed to be associated with a total of 10 devices (up to 5 computers and the rest on iOS devices). Example you can have 5 computers and 5 iOS devices, 3 computers and 7 iOS devices, but not 6 computers and 4 iOS devices.
    From http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
    Association of Associated Devices is subject to the following terms:
    i) You may auto-download iTunes Auto-Delivery Content or download previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content from an Account on up to 10 Associated Devices, provided no more than 5 are iTunes-authorized computers.
    Again this is for a single user. For multiple users like in schools you need to use VPP to purchase multiple licenses and it will allow you to install on multiple devices using a single district Apple ID.
    Hope this helps!

  • OUI for WWN and MACs

    When I create pools of wwn and macs for a service profile template, is there a block of addresses that start with an OUI that are specific to UCS?  In this guide: http://www.ciscosystems.sc/en/US/products/ps10281/products_configuration_example09186a0080af7515.shtml, I can see the a tip in the window of this picture: http://www.cisco.com/image/gif/paws/110297/create-sp-ucsblade-11.gif that specifies using a prefix of 20:00:00:25:B5:xx:xx:xx will ensure uniquiness in the WWN names but when I'm at the same screen on our UCS, I don't see this tip.  The same goes for the MACs, is there a block with certain values I should start with?  The MAC section of the guide shows 02:25:B5:00:00:00 in the configuration window: http://www.cisco.com/image/gif/paws/110297/create-sp-ucsblade-09.gif but is this unique to UCS?
    Thanks.

    For MACs Cisco has registered the OUI 00:25:b5 the last three octets are up to you. You can either make up some arbitrary numbers or you can put some logic behind it. Here is what I recommend for MACs.
    Create two MAC pools; one for Fabric A and one for Fabric B
    For the last three octets use the first one for the site/cluster and the next for the fabric A or B. For example site 1, cluster 1 and Fabric A would be this 00:25:b5:11:a0:00 and go up from there. Fabric B would be this 00:25:b5:11:b0:00 and cluster 2 would be this 00:25:b5:12:a0:00.
    For the WWNNs and WWPNs you will want three pools; one for the node WWN and two for the port (vHBA) WWN.
    Same concept here for the WWNNs use something like 20:11:00:25:b5:00:00:00 for site 1 cluster 1 and 20:12:00:25:B5:00:00:00 for site 1 cluster 2.
    For the WWPN pools do one for Fabric A and one for Fabric B like this
    Fabric A site 1 cluster 1 - 20:00:00:25:b5:11:aa:00
    Fabric B site 1 cluster 1 - 20:00:00:25:b5:11:bb:00
    By creating MAC and WWPN pools for each Fabric you can easily identify which Fabric a MAC or WWN is coming from when looking the MAC table on a switch or when zoning you can easily pick out WWNs. Could be useful when troubleshooting as well.

  • How to uninstall on Mac for customUpdateUI and disable Updater.update()?

    Hi there,
    I am getting a strange behavior on the Mac and see if anyone
    has similar issue.
    First, I deployed a
    "version 1" application and installed on the machine with
    customeUpdateUI=true, when the app install, it will attempt
    to update using
    Updater.update() in the following manner,
    quote:
    private function runUpdate(updatePath:String):Boolean {
    if (!updatePath)
    return false;
    var file:File = new File(updatePath);
    if (!file || !file.exists)
    return false;
    var updater:Updater = new Updater();
    updater.update(file, "version 2");
    return true;
    Then I repeat the step above for
    "version 2" and everything is working great. The update is
    working fine on Windows and on Mac. (This code is for demo only, I
    didn't hardcode the version # in the app. ;)
    The problem I have is re-install.
    On Windows, if you uninstall "version 1", then install
    "version 2", works great
    On a
    Mac, if you uninstall "version 1", then install "version 2"
    fails, error message for "version mismatch".
    It seems there is still something left behind on the Mac when
    uninstall the app, such that when I launch "version 2" install, it
    is still attempting to run update from the local installed app,
    rather than the update from the new installed .air file.
    Anyone have similar issue? How to uninstall an AIR app on the
    Mac? Do I just trash the App directory, or do I need to perform
    additional clean up?
    Besides trashing the app directory, I also tried to delete
    anything suggest to me is Adobe AIR related info, including,
    /User/Library/App Support/Adobe
    /User/Library/Preferences
    /Library/App Support/Adobe
    Please don't hesitate to let me know if anything I can
    provide to identify this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    OS: Mac OS X and Tiger

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
    The case is on the Mac, suppose my app is call myApp.air
    1. Run myApp.air, install version 1, works great
    2. Make a new myApp.air, name it version 2.
    3. Run myApp.air, upgrade version 1 to version 2, works
    great.
    4. Uninstall version 2 by delete the installation folder. For
    example, if I install on /Users/MyApp, delete the folder and empty
    trash.
    5. Install version 2 myApp.jar, error message complains
    version mismatch.
    On windows, I can uninstall from Control Panel. On the Mac, I
    don't know how I should remove an AIR app, and so I just went ahead
    and delete the app install folder.
    Thanks in advance! Really appreciate your assistance.

  • Use external drive for both Time Machine and storage for Back to My Mac

    Hi all,
    I have been "a Mac" now for over a year and just keep finding cool new things that make me happy I switched. The latest thing is Back to My Mac offered with my Mobile Me account. With a rather convoluted mix of PC/Mac/iOS devices to manage - best $99 I ever spent btw...
    I also have a 1TB Time Capsule that I have been using with Time Machine to back up all four of my Mac computers at home. Needless to say, the 1TB is really struggling to handle the amount of data being backed up and certainly leaves no room for anything else.
    What I wanted to do was to attach a larger external hard drive via a powered hub to the USB port on the Time Capsule and use it for Time Machine backups while using the internal 1TB drive with Back to My Mac so that I can have remote access to all my data from anywhere without having to leave my computer running at home all the time in order for my laptop to "see" it when I'm away. And, yes, the amount of that data far exceeds what any level of Mobile Me subscription can offer! I should also mention that the hard drive is the only USB device connected through the hub to the Time Capsule at the moment. There are no other devices that might be "getting in the way".
    I'm thinking maybe all this is asking too much without the addition of a dedicated file server (Mac Mini, perhaps - not a purchase my budget wants to make).
    I understand that the Time Capsule doesn't support partitions, so I bought a Western Digital 2TB Elements drive, connected it to my Macbook Pro and used Disk Utility to reformat the drive from the incompatible NTFS it shipped in to a single, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition. I then made two folders on the drive, one for Time Machine backups and one for Back to My Mac remote storage/access. Great.
    However, when I connected the 2TB drive to my Time Capsule I could not see it at all. Time Capsule was reporting problems in the way of a disk error. From within my Airport Utility, I could see the trouble was the external drive. The utility suggested connecting the drive to a Mac and using it's Disk Utility to troubleshoot.
    I followed through, checking the disk, etc. and ended up reformatted the drive on my Macbook Pro yet again with the same specifications as before but without the folders and reconnected it to the Time Capsule. Same deal. But now, I can't even remotely connect to the Time Capsule at all. I can see the Time Capsule in the shared area of my Macbook's Finder but can not connect. The connection tries and fails even before it gets to asking me for username and password credentials.
    Long story short, first of all, I suppose I would like to know if I'm asking for the impossible?
    Second, if what I want to do *is* possible, what steps do I need to take to make it so?
    Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you might have.

    Well, I have now reformatted/partitioned my poor WD Elements 2TB drive about a dozen times as well as restarted my 1TB Time Capsule so many times it's no wonder it's as confused as I am! <G>
    Last night, at your suggestion, William, and in respect for your continued support, I tried creating two 1TB Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partitions on the WD external USB drive, both with GUID partition tables. Both volumes mounted to my laptop's desktop flawlessly and without issue.
    Once the external drive was connected to the Time Capsule, however, it was a crap shoot as to whether or not the drive was recognized at all, reporting a problem with the disk, or, even at one point, mounting one of the two volumes but not both. <sigh>
    I read somewhere on the Internet that you need to restart the Time Capsule for volumes on an external USB drive to be recognized.
    So I tried that. I connected the freshly partitioned/formatted disk to the Time Capsule and restarted it. This succeed in removing the issue of reporting a nameless drive with a capacity of 0MB. It then reported the drive with its correct name but would not recognize whatever volumes in whatever partitions that particular crack at it contained with the exception of the once, as I mentioned above, when only one of two volumes mounted correctly and was listed with the right name and capacity on the Time Capusule's Setup's Disk tab.
    At this point I have given up on my goal to use the external drive with Time Machine to back up my Macs or to hope I will ever be able to see its contents remotely via Back to My Mac. All I would like to do now is simply find a reason why I can't get it successfully connected and playing nice with my Time Capsule in the first place!
    Any further suggestions or advice as to what steps I might take next would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all.

  • Flash (is it for me?), Wacom Cintiq 22HD, and Mac Mini

    I have Flash as part of the CS6 Master Suite, which I purchased primarily for InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere, but as yet I haven't opened Flash. I'm hoping someone here can save me time by advising me whether Flash is suitable for my purposes. I'm not a professional, just a keen amateur, but I do want to use quality software and equipment to do the finest job I can.
    Answers to a previous post in the Illustrator forum (Re: Animation – is Illustrator what I should be using?) suggested that I try Flash.
    Background
    I'll be using Premiere for converting my audio-visuals to HD format. Back in the 1980s I was right into three-screen slide shows. As part of the transforming, I'll be introducing a small number of video clips (hence my need for Premiere) and also short animation sequences, probably 10 seconds at most. The animation will be done by an artist friend who is keen to extend his talents into computer art. If I buy the computer (some sort of Mac), a Cintiq, load the appropriate software, and then loan it all to Steve and show him how to use it, he'll happily spend as much time as required for the animation. We're bartering: he gets to use a computer and tablet for as long as he wants, I get animation.
    A typical animation might involve Steve drawing outlines at appropriate intervals, over a background, then having the software generate the in-betweens. Watercolour-style shading (i.e. not fill-type, monotone colour) would be added, probably manually for each frame, unless the tweening can competently handle watercolour-style shading. For some of Steve's doodlings on his iPad (simplified versions of what we're aiming for), check out http://www.mediafire.com/download/sj731c17co55g5w/Steve's_iPad_Work.zip
    We're both new to this and recently spent an afternoon together looking at videos on Flash and the Cintiq. The combination looks like it will work for us, but I have a few questions which I'm hoping some of the experts on this forum can answer. A simple yes or no may save me hours of reading documentation only to find out that something won't work as I want. I'll also include some questions about the Cintiq and Mac Mini in case someone who uses them with Flash can provide answers. I live in a place where I have no access to these devices before I buy. I have to buy 'cold'. Thus my wariness.
    Please note: I'm not an artist and Steve isn't computer literate. So some of these questions might appear pretty dumb to an experienced user of Flash/Cintiq.
    Ques 1
    Is Synfig Studio (as suggested at the end of my Illustrator thread) something I should consider? Or is Flash a better bet?
    Ques 2
    Does Flash have vector tools that mimic a watercolour paintbrush like in Photoshop? Or is that not possible as a vector, and such effects have to be done outside Flash and then imported as background (or other method)?
    Ques 3
    When a Flash animation is finished, how is it exported, for example, to Premier? Do you export as h.264?
    Ques 4
    It is not clear to Steve and I after viewing three Cintiq videos, how the Cintiq interfaces to Flash. Does the Cintiq know about Flash, and appropriates certain drawing tools automatically? Or do you have to tell Flash (or the Cintiq) that this button on the Cintiq now operates this tool in Flash?
    Ques 5
    Do Flash and Cintiq work well together – and easily?
    Ques 6
    Do I need a monitor to be able to use Flash with the Cintiq? Or would a Mac Mini be a suitable computer – with the Cintiq acting as monitor? Steve won't ever be using this setup as a computer. He'll be treating the Cintiq as a canvas on which to draw and paint.
    Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Hi Guy,
    I thought I was the only one around who was old enough to have worked on wide screen multi-image slide shows!
    Flash may be the right product for you and Steve. I use Flash with an Intuos 4 tablet and it works fine. What you want to do is to search the Flash forums for references to Cintiq. There may be some problems that interfere with your intended use, or it may work exactly as you want. The important element for working with any Wacom product is to be sure that you are using the latest drivers for the Wacom product.
    If you choose to use a mac mini, get a new one, one that can use a lot of memory, you'll need it.
    You can export Flash files to video in most any file type and compression is installed on the computer. So, if you're going to use a Mac, install Quicktime Pro and you should have everything that you need.
    I have never heard of or used Synfig Studio, so I can't comment on that.
    Flash's paint tools are different from Photoshop and more similar to Illustrator's. You will have all of the flexibility of the Cintiq to control painting effects, it will take some practice, but you should be able to get the effect that you're describing.
    Hope this helps with your decision.

    I'm too old to learn iCal.  How do I tell iTunes to synch with Outlook for Mac for all of the Contacts and the Calendar on my iPhone and iPad??
    Also, once I figure out how to replace iCal with Outlook/Mac on iTunes, how do I synch the phone and pad so that the information on those devices over-writes onto Outlook as a backup, rather than having a blank Calendar on Outlook wipe out all of the information on the phone and pad???
    Thanks

    If you haven't tried already, plug your devices into iTunes, and on each device next to the "Summary" tab at the top is another tab called "Info." Click that and scroll down to Contacts, Calendars, etc. There should be a pull down bar under each category for "Sync contacts from..." and you should be able to select from that pull down list Outlook.  Hit Apply at the bottom and see if that does it.

    Something keeps trying to download on my mac and I don't know what it is. It is not in the apple store and just comes out nowhere and request for my password to download something and I don't know what it is. How to make this stop? It pops up every single day.

    Erica,
         I can, with 99.99% certainty, tell you that you are absolutely right in not wanting to download or install this "Helper," whatever it is (but we can be equally certain it would not "help" anything).
         I cannot comment as to Oglethorpe's recommendation of 'adwaremedic'; I am unfamiliar with it.  His links to the Apple discussion and support pages warrant your time and attention.
         It might be really simple -- Trying looking in your Downloads folder, trash anything that you don't know with certainty is something you want to keep, and then Secure Empty your Trash. Then remove the AdBlock extension, LastPass, and Web of Trust extensions to Safari and re-boot. If the issue goes away, still be extraordinarily careful in the future.
         Unfortunately, it's probably not going to be that simple to get rid of, in which case I'd then try the line by line editing in HT203987.
         I have no further suggestions (other than a complete wipe and re-install...but that's a pain because trying to restore from Time Machine would simply ... restore the Mal).
       For the rest of us, please post when you find a solution.
         Best.
