Deploying Multiple Presentation Services on a single Windows machine

Hi All,
Have any one tried to deploy multiple presentation services in single windows machine. Can any one give me clear steps configure presentation services to access different repositories at a time.

Right the conclusion was to either have everything in the same repository or create different presenation service instance. Can anyone please tell us how can different instances of presenation service be created in the same machine.

I can hear everywhere that multiple presentation services on a single server are not supported by Oracle, but I can't find an official source stating this.
All I could get is this page where it is stated that it is not recommended (but not unsupported):

Hi cedric,
It is not recommened is what i can say,in simple words it gets jammed when you try to build a request from any of the services.
It is not supported cant be the reason,it has a work around to go and do that

There is no such official document saying about its support by oracle,but oracle wont support handling two servers in production as it is not legal and it is going against the product capabilities.I would suggest you not to go with it.

i have done up to the different port numbers,by deploying analytics_test in enterprise manager and changed the port number in web.xml and created new another instance config file with changed DSN name and listener port ,and also making changes in xmlp-server-config.xml and bioffice.xml but i am struck at host names now, where do i need to do changes so that i get
localhost1 and localhost2 ??

If you want to work on test environment on your own machine, you can follow the instruction in the link above :

Using Advanced reporting is there a way to report on 3 unique service requests into one report by using a common field, in our case it is an application identifier that is common in all the request types?

Vmware is available for both Windows & Linux.
Secondly you have to decide whether you want the guest OS (OS on which you would configure RAC) to be Windows or Linux ?
And before everything, check your PC configuration. As Tim mentions in those articles, to run this setup, you need lots of RAM n power.
Perhaps 4 GB of RAM and Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz + processor. If you are not having an appropriate configuration, it may not even run properly or your might hit memory dump errors on host OS.

Presentation services not starting,StartOC4J window closing automatically

After i create one repository,i started startOC4J but this window is opening and closing in few seconds automatically.Even the presentation services also not starting.
it is giving
"Windows couldn't start the Oracle BI Presentation server on Local computer.For more information,review the system event log.If this is a non-Microsoft service,Contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -1"

I'm sure you have messed up with your NQSConfig.INI file. Make sure, its pointing to the exact name of the new Repository that you have created under REPOSITORY Section like
[ REPOSITORY ]
Star = samplesales.rpd, DEFAULT;
And also, this RPD samplesales.rpd should be present in \OracleBI\server\Repository folder.
Cross-check your instanceconfig.xml file as well..

Multiple Presentation Services -OBIEE

Hi,
I have 2 RPDs which needs to be deployed in OBIEE. I want to view the analytical reports of both these RPDs.
However the data sources of these 2 RPDs are different.
Also, I have installed OBIEE on Linux Machine.
Would it be possible to have 2 instances of the presentation services on the same Linux Box. If yes please let me know where I can find the procedure for the same.
Linux Operating System I am using is Oracle Linux 5.0 and OBIEE installed is the version 11.1.1.6.

The details of the first instance as as below

1. Is it required that the BI Oracle Home be different each time?
2. Once done with the Software Install,will i be able to have another instance (like perhaps instance2 in my case) and have separate presentation services and RPDs or there is something which needs to be done with the Configuration Utillity.
3.What is the scaling up of OBIEE about? Does it also not create another instance of the server.

Is it possible to deploy multiple apps(ContextRoots) into a single stack?

We want to deploy multiple Application Codes with different Context Roots to a single JavaStack using SDM. The purpose for it is to support our multiple Test environments(AIT, AFT, Prod Regression or etc.) using a single JavaStack environment. AIT will have AIT Context Root, AFT will have AFT Context Root and etc. Is it possible to do so? If so, how can we configure the SDM to support the deployment? We already know how to change the *.xml file for different context root.

If the structure of the Excel sheets does not change from file to file then you can by having one ForEach Loop processing always the "Enrolled" sheet and another always the "Engaged" this is doable because the Excel OLEDB connector allows
to pick individual sheets, it is problematic therefore when sheet names themselves change.

Failure to deploy Multiple Web Services per EAR deployment

Hi,
I am developing web services using EJB 3.0 beans using annotations. The deployment of EAR fails when I have more than ONE Web services in a single EAR file. The exception I get is as below. Can anybody tell me if it is not possible to package more than one service in a single EAR and each web service and its supporting classes have to go in separate EAR file.
When I deploy One Service per EAR, the deployment works fine.

Further, its a Java EE application and it doesn't contain any web service. Why am i getting this error while deploying?

Installing two OBIEE 11g instances in a single windows machine

As a part of one of the client requirements , I need to install and configure two instances of OBIEE11g in a single windows server 2003.
Is it possible , and if you could let know how to achieve that. Here I mean would I be able to run two rpd 's and catalogs. Can I use differnt port and differnt weblogic domain for the same.

Yes ofcourse, we can have two instances on the same machine. However, we need to make sure that they do not conflict each other for the ports/node manager etc. Apart from this, I understand that you have to obey to some restrictions too here.
1. Starting/Stopping BI Components needs to have a variable BI_SERVER_HOME set in the system. Now that you have two homes, I think you cannot set this. However, you can still start/stop BI Services through command line.
May be others can add in their opinion here.

Oracle AS cluster on single windows machine.

would appreciate your input here. I have two OAS 10g r2 (say node1 and node2) on my windows machine. I deployed my application on node1 and added node1 to a cluster. Then i added node2 to the cluster and the OC4J instance in node1 was duplicated into the second node.
My problem is the RMI port for my application is the same on both the OC4J instances and because of this only one OC4J instance can start at a time. I tried modifying the RMI port of node2 and I got both OC4J components working but the application broke. I want to later modify node1 to act as load balancer but my question is how do I modify the ports and get both OC4J isntances and the application working properly?

Here's something I found which might answer this partly: When I redeployed using enterprise manager, the RMI server port specified in the server.xml is assigned automatically by the EM. Both the nodes have a different rmi port specified in this file. This allows both OC4J instance to start up at the sametime.
However, the RMI port in the rmi.xml correctly specifies what I assigned for my application and this is the same in the RMI.xml files for both the nodes. Because of this, some features of my application dont work. If I end up shutting down one of the nodes, all features work fine.
This makes me think that I cant get this working on windows and might have to shift to vmware/linux and continue my cluster testing. hoping this doc confirms or denies my assumption!

OSB example calling multiple business services using a single proxy service???

I have three business services created using http urls i.e.
1. LoginBS
2. GetListBS
3. LogoutBS
My requirement is to get a list of names from GetListBS using a single proxy service and to call GetListBS I have to first call LoginBS then GetListBS i.e. after authentication and then finally logout.
Kindly help with a detailed example for this and I am new to OSB.

Thanks for the response. We figured that it is possible to call multiple services with Split Join. However, we ran into the issue you described. We had a blocking call and had to wait until each of the services returned a response.
However, we needed a Async model for our design and felt that this might not be a right fit.
We are now looking at implementing the publish option with QoS configured as this fits our usecase better. Thanks for the help again.
