Deploying Shockwave version 11.6.1.629 also deploys 10.4.1.34

I have downloaded the latest version of Shockwave redistribituable from a link that Adobe sent me.
I first ran the Adobe Shockwave uninstaller (sw_uninstaller.exe) to make sure all "zombie" files are removed.
I then installed the latest Shockwave version 11.6.1.629 (sw_lic_full_installer.msi) and i noticed the following:
>> Version 11 gets installed in C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Shockwave 11 but it also installed version 10 into C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 10
So two questions:
1)  Why is the installer for 11.6.1.629 installing an older version of shockwave 10.4.1.34? (backwards compatibility?)
2)  Is the version of Shockwave 10.4.1.34 that the installer for 11.6.1.629 installs considered Insecure, end of life or patched?
The reason I ask is because the Adobe security bulletin recommends that "Users of Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.0.626 and earlier versions upgrade to the newest version 11.6.1.629 available here: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/.
Thanks

1)  Why is the installer for 11.6.1.629 installing an older version of shockwave 10.4.1.34? (backwards compatibility?)
It's there (as you noted) for compatibility, and only for Windows, for files created prior to D11

It is the current secure version of the backwards compatibility components. There is no risk posed by it (unless a new exploit is found)

  • Uninstall of previous version 11.6.1.629 (Also Flash 10.0.1.152)

Quick question: Why can't the option to uninstall previous versions be part of each new release instead of having a separate uninstall tool for both Shockwave & Flash.
Now for the "problem" I’m encountering with uninstalls of previous versions.
    > I downloaded the latest uninstall program uninstall_flash_player_32bit.exe to uninstall version 11.6.1.629
    > I run the uninstall program with the -uninstall switch while users are logged on.
    > The uninstall program runs successfully with an exit code of 0
    > I then install the latest version 11.6.3.633 and the install runs successfully with an exit code of 0
Now when i look in the add/remove programs of 40 test machines I see both version of Shockwave installed 11.6.1.629 & 11.6.3.633)
On a few of the 40 pilot machines I also see both versions of flash 11.0.1.152 & 11.1.102.55 (I used the same process abode but used the uninstaller for flash with the /S switch)
Please help me Adobe you're my only hope. :-)

  • Version 11.6.1.629

    Windows Home Premium 7
    Internet Explorer 9
    Flash Player 10.3.183.5
My Kaspersky 2011 Anti-virus informs me today [August 11, 2011] that I am susceptible to the following:
Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Shockwave Player, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user' system.
    1) An unspecified error can be exploited to corrupt memory.
    2) An unspecified error can be exploited to corrupt memory.
    3) An unspecified error in IML32.dll can be exploited to corrupt memory.
    4) An unspecified error can be exploited to corrupt memory.
    5) An unspecified error in Dirapi.dll can be exploited to corrupt memory.
    6) An unspecified error in TextXtra.x32 can be exploited to corrupt memory.
    7) An unspecified error in the bundled version of msvcr90.dll can be exploited to corrupt memory.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities may allow execution of arbitrary code.
The vulnerabilities are reported in version 11.6.0.626 and prior for Windows and Macintosh.
It recommends that I update to version 11.6.1.629.
But after an aggrevating waltz (looking for answers) through a maize of Adobe detours, irrelevant links, what-nots, and confusion, I find (somehow) a security bulletin [ http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-19.html ] dated August 9, 2011 which claims:
"Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.0.626 and earlier versions (my italics) on the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. These vulnerabilities could allow an attacker, who successfully exploits these vulnerabilities, to run malicious code on the affected system. Adobe recommends users of Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.0.626 and earlier versions update to Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.1.629 using the instructions provided below."
So what's the deal here?  When I go to the Adobe version checker, it checks and acknowledges that my version is 10.3.183.5 and then offers updates for Windows 7, none of which are 11.6.1.629; and indicates NO "other versions between"  10.3.183.5 and 11.6.1.629.
If these vulnerabilities above are so "critical", why did the automatic update that I received yesterday from Adobe not include any of these details and did not automatically update my version 10.3.183.5 to version 11.6.1.629?
    Do I or don't I update to 11.6.1.629?
On a separate note:  There certainly is a lot of irrelevant garbage within the webpages of Adobe for an inquiring end user who seeks answers to what appear to be imporant issues.

    Thanks, Carl,
I'm not too sure where my Shockwave player is, and what it does.  I looked quickly through the computer programs, found nothing, have never run across Shockwave player before; however I find in my IE "managed add-ons" a reference that says "shockwave object is enabled".  When I access the info at Adobe, it quickly explains that Shockwave is a wonderful internet player for things like 3D and animation and gives me a place to check my installation.  When I check, it fails to provide me with the "animation" so I'm assuming that whatever has been reference by all this does not exist, or work.
As usual, I am baffled.  But since I do not game, do not draw, and do not get too animated, I suppose I don't really need Shockwave player.  So I'll just disable the enabled Shockwave object and see what happens.
Thanks for your input.  It is greatly appreciated.  I am glad that you pointed out what Kaspersky was involved with.  I did not know that.

Help!   I have an iMac 24" OSX version 10.6.8.  My iphoto is having problems.  It will not open properly.  All I get is the little wheel going around and around.  My iphoto is:  iphoto'11 version 9.2.3(629.52).  What do I need to do to remedy this?  I recently installed InstallMac.  I don't want this on my computer.  I don't know how to get it off.  I'm afraid that is what scrogged my iphoto.  Can anyone tell me how to correct this situation?

    Re: iPhoto:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Sw_uninstaller.exe: what Shockwave versions can it uninstall?

We have a variety of Shockwave versions installed on our many client PC's: 8.x, 10.x, 11.x and 11.5.x. We are planning to uninstall all existing installs of Shockwave and replace them with the newest version. The question is, can sw_uninstaller.exe uninstall any/all of these versions correctly?

You will have to reinstall, don't worry, because none of your bookmarks, history etc. WILL NOT BE LOST.
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Is this an app bbbc?  IF it is I would contact the app developer and see if they can resolve the issue for you.
also take a look at the reviews and see if other users are having the same issue and see if they have a resolution.

  • Is there any upcoming software updates for the version 10.5.8? Also how do I backup my mac?

I really want to update my mac to the new version of Snow Leopard or Lion but to my understanding I must buy the disks to update it. However I feel like buying a macbook pro to my replace my mid-2009 white macbook, once I graduate so I could use it for college (which is 2 years from now and I'm saving up for it).
Also how do I backup my mac (hardrive)? I'm quite lost. I'm told that I must use Time Machine, but how? Do I use a CD to back up? Some external drive and if yes where could I buy one?
P.S. I'm a newbie with tech stuff. I'm no genius with it so I suggest to take it slow with me. PLUS there's no Apple Store here to help me out.
    My quetions in a nutshell:
    1) Upcoming software updates? *secretly wishes they were FREE*
    2) Backing up my hardrive?

    The 2.13Ghz MacBook is a Mid 2009 model 5,2 http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.13-whit e-13-mid-2009-nvidia-specs.html
There will be no updates for 10.5. it's been out of production for 3 years. You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.5 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any third party Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Unable to install Shockwave - version 10

I am a very new user of Mac's and feel slightly clueless... i am trying to use a site called Rosetta stone languages online, it is not compatible with the latest version of shockwave (11) so i am trying to install version 10. I go to the site for downloads and it says click to install and it installs the installer and doesn't seem to install the latest version ? not sure if i need to do anything more then that. I run the system check on the site i wish to use and it still picks up the mac as having version 8 . Can anyone help ?? in fact i do not know where to even look on a mac, do i need to remove the old one first ? its not in my applications...

Another possibility: could the 256 MB RAM chip be bad? Faults in just a few memory locations could cause problems during install. Usually, if RAM were suspect, I'd suggest using Memtest in single-user mode, but that's not workable in this case, where there's no OS on the hard drive. Since the odds of happening to have a known-good DDR PC2700 memory chip lying about aren't high, you can at least try pulling the RAM that's in the eMac now, cleaning the connectors, and re-seating the ship, in either the current slot or the other one. There's a small but non-zero chance that the RAM is slightly loose in the slot, and reseating ould help. RAM installation instructions are at eMac - Do-It-Yourself.

  • Distribution sw_lic_full_installer.msi installs two Shockwave Versions

The Distribution sw_lic_full_installer.msi installs version 11.5.0.600 in C:\WINNT\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11 and 10.4.0.25 in C:\WINNT\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10.  Where as the sw_lic_full_installer.exe for distribution only installs 11.5.0.600 which is the new security update.  I need a good msi for a silent installation package as soon as possible.

    Sean,
With the past installations they only contained one version.  I need to make sure that this will be secure for our environment since this is a security update.  That is my concern.

The steps I took to fix this problem include completely uninstalling and then re-installing iTunes 9.0.2, restoring my iPod to factory settings while in disk mode, following the Apple instructions of repairing the permissions (outlined in my other post), and even after all that my iPod "crashes" after syncing more than 300 or so songs. I hope that Apple will come out with a real fix for this problem soon. Best of luck.
