Deployment Guide - Branchcache 2012 with Windows 7 clients

Is there a deployment guide for branchcache using Server 2012 and Windows 7 clients? I can find 2 guides, 1 for Branchcache 2008 with Windows 7 and 1 for 2012 with Windows 8. Wondering if I should just follow the 2012 guide for configuring branchcache servers
and 2008 guide for configuring Windows 7 clients including PKI?
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
Windows Server 2012 is compatible with Windows 7.
But BranchCache in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 provides substantial performance, manageability, scalability, and availability improvements. And there are some group policy only applied to client computers that are running Windows 8 not Windows 7.
So i would suggest you may choose client computers that running Windows 8.

  • GroupWise 2012 SP2 Windows Client - Windows 8.1 x64

    I have installed GroupWise 2012 SP2 Windows Client on a Windows 8.1 x64 laptop.
I can run GW for the first time, and it works fine.
When I close GW, and then reopen it I get the following error:
GroupWise is not properly installed. The GroupWise components could not be initialized. Please run GroupWise setup, or contact your system administrator.
A reboot will not fix the problem. If I completely remove GW and then reinstall it works fine, however once you close GW and then reopen it, you get the above message again.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank to everyone in advance.

Both Outlook and GroupWise use MAPI, and the files Outlook places are the
newer one, but it doesn't always do so if the older ones are in place.

  • Can NI provide a TPC-2012 with Windows XP Embedded OS?

We recently purchased a number cFP-2120's, to use as controllers, along with TPC-2012's for HMI.  My experience thus far with the TPC-2012 has been less than ideal.  Although the TPC-2012 is fine in terms of hardware, I find that the Touch Panel module has many limitations that prevent creation of elegant user interfaces.  This is not to criticize the Touch Panel module:  it has all the features necessary to create HMI for small display areas (<6").  However, the TPC-2012 has a whopping 12" of usable area, in which some very elegant user interfaces could be created.  Unfortunately, the fact that the TPC-2012 uses Windows CE (Touch Panel module) prevents this.
I have reviewed the forums and have found that NI does not officially support installation of LabVIEW on XPe; however, there seem to be many cases where XPe and LabVIEW have worked well together.  The key to success appears to be in ensuring that XPe is built with the necessary components.  Since XPe can, in theory, run any application that is developed for XP (provided that the right components are installed), I would suggest that XPe, with the LabVIEW run-time installed, would be ideal on the TPC-2012.  The benefits are as follows:
    1)  All of the LabVIEW controls and properties would be available for the developer to create elegant interfaces for any cFP or cRIO application.
    2)  Since NI provides the hardware, they can configure XPe components as necessary for smallest necessary footprint while retaining LabVIEW runtime support.   (i.e. The base platform is consistent and therefore supportable)
    3)  Product specifications for the TPC-2012 indicate that it already supports Windows XPe.
    4)  The user would be able to deploy to the TPC-2012 by simply building a standard EXE application.
    5)  Aside from screen template size, displays could be built such that there would be no visible differences to operators whether accessing via a local TPC-2012 or a remote-networked computer.
    6)  The next available NI product up from the TPC-2012 is PPC-2015, which is almost twice the cost.  Given that this is an HMI only, it seems overkill to invest $4000 in a full-fledged computer with 1GHz processing power.  The TPC-2012 would be a very competitively priced option for HMI, with all the input, display, and network capabilities that LabVIEW has to offer.
I would be very interested in finding out more about the potential of this option from NI.

    Dear Mr. Joe Daily,
My labview application is on windows vista web server and I want to access my web client through web browser on third party windows CE 5.0 touch screen, so please suggest me whether I need to install labview runtime engine(2009) on my web client  or just I have to browser IP address of my web server to run and control my labview application on third party windows CE 5.0, I try with bowsering my web Server IP address its work on windows vista (labview is installed), but not on my third party windows CE 5.0 touch screen.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Using iChat Server with Windows clients in an integrated Active Directory/Open Directory environment

A co-worker (Super Brent) and I were working on using iChat as an internal IM server after having used Openfire for a couple days. The reason for switching was basically that we had a Mac Mini Server that was available so we decided to take this on.
First problem: Knowing whether or not Kerberos was needed for AD/OD integration. We spent a ton of time on this, not knowing a huge amount about AD and with our server administrator on courses, we just kept poking at it and removed Kerberos.
For the AD/OD integration, we first bound the Mac Mini to our Active Directory server. We shut off LDAPv3 support as we only wanted to use the AD functionality. Additionally, we ensured that the search policy in Directory Utility only used Active Directory. Then we created an Open Directory master in the Open Directory service. We enabled a self-signed certificate and trusted it locally. After creating the iChat service, ensure that you use the self-signed SSL Certificate and set authentication to Standard. (no kerberos).
Second problem: Once this was complete, we started to test clients out. We were unable to successfully login using our AD credentials using Spark IM and Pandium IM. After trying nearly 100 different variations of server configs, we decided to try a new client. I installed Miranda IM on my Windows XP machine and tried a few different setups. It turned out that the magic potion was to make sure that the "resource" field was set to "Home" and use SSL for encryption. This resource setting was the deal breaker for the other IM clients as many of them such as Spark and Pandium do not have this as a login option.
We ended up using Pidgin IM as the Windows client of choice as it did have the resource variable and it's interface was the best suited for our environment and users.
I hope this helps someone out there as we spent days looking all over the internet trying to figure this out.
    Cheers,
    Frenchy and Super Brent

Have you tried to turn off Windows Firewall, then test the result again, check whether Firewall is the culprit.  Seems the outbound connection is blocked in Windows Firewall, check your Connection Security Rule Properties in Windows Firewall.

  • Can I use Snow Leopard Server with Windows clients?

Mainly for e-mails and calendars. I have small office with 12 windows computers from XP to Win 7 and MS Office from 2003 to 2007. Will Snow Leopard Server work with that?

Can Mac OS X Server do this?  Sure.
You're going to be learning a whole lot about running a server, regardless.
You really need to sort out what you have here and where you want to be, and how to upgrade or replace yor migrate your environment, and before you add the substantial increase in complexity of serving Windows from Mac.  If you can't get off of Office circa 2003 or similarly old software, what are you going to do when you find, say, an incompatibility, or a need to migrate mail clients?     Who are you going to call for help?
I'd guess that Small Business Server (SBS) is likely your best target here.
AFAIK, Exchange Server (which I'm guessing is what you're using) supports larger mailboxes in newer releases.
Look at the sustaining costs for what you're considering purchasing, too.  How much it'll cost to configure, deploy and maintain the box and the network.  Up-front costs are an obvious consideration, but maintaining many boxes and many versions itself introduces costs.
The arrival of Lion Server next month does not change my opinion.   (And I'm not usually suggesting Windows and Windows Server boxes, either.)  (And with the arrival of Lion and Lion Server, I'll follow my usual approach and not look to upgrade to the first release of that (or any other) new platform, if there are business-critical functions and services involved.  You need time to debug and test the deployment.)

  • Can I share with Windows Without storing password?

Hello Apple Community. I purchased a Mac Mini and am running OS X 10.8.3 with OS X Server on it. I have enabled Open Directory and File sharring using both AFP and SMB so that I can communicate with both my Apple Laptop and my Windows 8 workstation. However, I am quite frustrated with the need to Share files and folders using SMB (windows) and having to keep a password there for my account and my wifes account. I was hoping that using Open Directory I could use as an LDAP server and just have windows authenticate to that. The only other option I can think of is to create a third account and use it for netwok sharing only. Is there way to share with Windows clients using Open Directory where I do not have to store the password?
Links to articles or suggestions greatly appreciated. I use a mixed environment as there are more game options on Windows then OS X, so saying repace the Windows computer is not an option.
    Thanks in Advance.

home sharing works between two (or more) computers on the same network. if iTunes on his machine is running, you can transfer content without needing to touch his computer.
if you have your content on an iPod, you can repopulate a new (empty) library with the files from there. check out this post by Zevoneer.
or, you can Download past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store (the music feature is currently available in the US only).

  • Standard Domain Accounts don't work with Windows 8.1 Pro

I have AD running on Server 2012 with Windows 7 systems. I recently purchased a few Windows 8.1 laptops that I connected to the domain. They are fully updated to the latest windows 8.1 version, and all security updates are installed.
When I log in as an domain administrator user, then I can log in. No problems.
However, when I log in as a standard domain user, it signs me off immediately. It says 'Welcome' .... 2 seconds pass... 'Signing Out' and I'm back to the login page. I tried this with Windows 8 systems, and it works but as soon as it is updated
to Windows 8.1, I start having this problem.
Event Viewer does show some errors when a standard domain user logs in.
9009 - Desktop Window Manager - The desktop window manager has exited with code 0xd00002fe
    Then,
4006 - WinLogin - The Windows logon process has failed to spawn a user application. Application name: . Command line parameters: C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe
1542 - User Profile Service - Windows cannot load classes registry file. Detail - The system cannot find the file specified.
I installed Windows 8 Pro using the Dell CD that came with the laptop. I updated to Windows 8.1 using windows store, and then windows update for the latest windows 8.1 update.
I have searched these forums, and made sure that winlogon executable is correct. I have recreated the user profile. I have tried multiple accounts and while they work on Windows 7, and windows 8, they fail on all windows 8.1 laptops.
    Please assist. Thank you

  • Compliance of Oracle 10g R2 with Windows XP SP2

    Hello everybody
I am representing my company for making a decision of deploying appropriate versions for Oracle and Windows.
The vendor suggested Oracle 9 on Windows Server 2003, whereas we opted for deploying Oracle 10g R2 with Windows XP SP2.
    According to the vendor
XP is not a true 'server' product and therefore does not provide many server functions and may have restrictions on numbers of users that can connect.
If the vendor's notion is correct, would anyone explain the limitations/restrictions of our solution.

One of the first problems that you will encounter, inbound connections limit in Windows XP:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314882
Memory allocations are handled differently between Windows 2003 and XP (paged pool, non-paged pool, file system caching, etc.):
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx
In some cases the memory allocation differences can cause XP to display errors indicating "unable to allocate memory from the paged pool" or the non-paged pool, when Windows 2003 would otherwise continue functioning without problem. Windows 2003 offers a registry change to work around this problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312362
Microsoft will stop making Windows XP available for resale in June 2008, except on extremely light-weight computers, and update support will end before update support ends for Windows 2003.
There are typically differences in the hardware that ships with a computer loaded with Windows XP and one that ships with Windows 2003. You will have a hard time finding a computer with Windows XP that ships with redundant power supplies, dual backplanes, SCSI RAID 10 support, dual network interfaces, built-in system/diagnostics, etc.
While Windows 2003 is the server equivalent of Windows XP, there are many features in Windows 2003 that are not available in Windows XP. XP is designed to be rebooted frequently (shut down every night, or reboot once a week or once a month) and is geared toward foreground application performance. Windows Server 2003 is designed to be rebooted infrequently (apply security updates, recover from rare system fatal bugs) and is geared toward providing good background application performance (the Oracle database instance would be a background application).
If you are unfamilar with Windows Server 2003, take a look at the books "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Administrator's Companion" by Microsoft Press and "Mastering Windows Server 2003" by Sybex. Compare what you find in those books with what you might find in Microsoft's Windows XP Resource Kit book.

  • Wireless Lan connection issue with Linux clients

    Hi
In a large Wireless Lan enviroment for a university, we have 3 WISM moduls attached on a 6k hw - Manged by ACS v6.0.181.0
We recently upgraded the software version of the controllers from 4.x to 7.0.98.0 - the Emergency Image version is 5.2.157.0
Since then, the students with Linux clients have massive connection issue - repeated connection lost in a short time period.
However the students with Windows clients have no problem at all.
The studends report, that their linux clients getting so much of some kind of unnecessary broadcast traffic which can not be handled by the NIC - and the NIC goes down - and this happens all 5-10 minutes.
Affected Linux clients are: Ubuntu v10.10 - also OpenSuse, Fedora and Arch-linx with latest OS version.
Any Idea how I could solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi Nicolas
Thanks for your reply. The broadcast forwarding is disabled on WLC's.
Pls find below the attached picture, which shows the captured broadcast traffic on a linux client (sent by a student to me).
I'm not sure, if its really only the broadcast traffic, which the linux clients can not handle.
From my point of view, it seems also to be that the linux clients are somehow disadvantaged among the other clients like windows or mac, if they all trying to get a wireless connection.
But the fact is only the linux clients are affected - and this happens to the linux clients only in our wireless infrastructure.
Windows or Mac clients have no such problem at all
