Deployment/Licensing Options

Hi,
I've got a multiprocessor licensed oracle 10g R2 instance running on my production server. I want to set up OHS on a separate machine (only OHS no DB server) and make it my APEX server for production purpose.
Is this a viable option?
thanks

Hi,
Deployment wise, your Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) can reside on any machine that can be accessed from the client machines (eg end users). The OHS in turn will need to be able to reach the db server where APEX is installed. This is a common practice and works perfect if you set this correctly. See the "Install and Configure for use with Oracle Application Server 10g" (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/howto_useoas10g.html)
Just thing the Oracle Application Server as the OHS on a separate machine. The important part here is the copying of the images and setting the virtual directory /i/ accordingly.
License wise, if you use the OHS from the db companion CD then you are good to go. But do check with Oracle Support Services (Licensing) team.

Sunny Patel.

  • Understanding TestStand Debug Deployment License

After reading the License Agreement and the TestStand Help section on licenses I still would like an explanation as to exactly what the license does and does not allow. My understanding is with a TestStand Debug/Deployment license I can install TestStand on a machine, let's call it the development machine, and also install TestStand on another machine, my production machine. The development machine is where I would develop applications to deploy onto my production machine. The production machine is where I would actually test my products. The production machine can also be used as a platform to debug my deployed applications. If this is true then can I develop any additional tests on the production machine, e.g. I found a problem in the sequence so I need to add a new sequence to correct the error? Or I found a problem with a LabVIEW VI and I need to create a new VI to correct it. Can I develop VI's and sequences on the production machine or do I need to develop on the development machine transfer the files over to the production machine and hope it works (this type of process could prove to be very time consuming and tedious)?

Thanks for the info. Now what about LabVIEW. Here are some options I'm considering:
    1. Run a LabVIEW Runtime Engine on the production machine and a FDS of LabVIEW on the development machine. In turn run a TestStand Deployment license on the production machine. This seems the most cost effective method. The problem I'm having is some VI's are developed in LabVIEW 6i, 7.0, and 7.1 and the LabVIEW 7.0 RT Engine does not work with TestStand 3.1. It seems only the LabVIEW 7.1 RT Engine will work with TestStand 3.1. But I don't have a LabVIEW 7.1 development license (not sure how the 7.1 VI's came to be, before my time). I've also thought of using standalone LabVIEW applications but the only license I have for Application Builder is from LabVIEW 6i PDS from the Developer's Suite. If TestStand 3.1 is suppose to work with any LabVIEW RT engine then I'm doing something wrong.
    2. Run a LabVIEW Development/Deployment license with a TestStand Development/Deployment license. This is the most expensive method but the easiest to implement.
    3. Run a LabVIEW FDS and a TestStand Deployment license on the production machine.
A finally question, does NI make available a TestStand Run-time Engine that is available as a free download, similar to the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine?

  • I'd like to see a floating license option for XML Author.

I am an experienced structured FM user. I am trying to set up a structured authoring environment for a small engineering firm. I write and edit documentation for aviation engineering projects. I work with six to eight engineers and designers who contribute content to our technical publications.
I want to minimize authoring overhead by eliminating manual formatting from my contributor workflow. Ideally, I would manage EDDs, DTDs, templates etc. and deploy several XML author licenses to collect content. However, the cost of an XML author license per each potential contributor is prohibitive for my small firm. I would love to be able to deploy XML Author through Creative Cloud either as a single-app license or as part of a team license.
Several other authoring platforms including Flare (no structured support, I know) offer a floating license option. I think a floating license option would make the Structured Frame/XML Author combo more competitive for Adobe and more attractive to small firms like mine.

  • Error Deploying A Cube with the Deploy All option

    Hi All,
I get the error below when I try to deploy a cube:
    ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception

    ORA-06512: at line 10
I have already deployed all the dimensions with the "Deploy All" Option and the cube deployment still failed. Please, can anyone suggest possible ways of solving this problem?
    Many thanks

    Hi
Have you deployed your implementing cube/fact table?
    Otherwise take the generated SQL script and try running it in SQLPlus before doing so so the following;
    set serveroutput on size 999999
    exec cwm_olap_manager.set_echo_on
now run the script, you should see errors output now.

  • JClient with ADF deployment license

    Hello,
we are Oracle Form developer and plan a project to use Jdeveloper to deploy with JClient as a C/S application.
Can I deploy it free with JClient that make use ADF or JClient that do not use ADF. If there is a deployment license needed, what's the license terms and pricing?
Please also send the answer to [email protected] I am not checking this Forum that often.

    Thanks Shay,
below is the answer from the FAQ in case anyone insterested.
What if I use Oracle ADF in a Swing-based application running on client machines without an application server?
For client-based deployment that doesn't involve an application server, the user-based pricing for Oracle ADF applies.
I may need to consider another Java Development Tools from other Vendor, the Name User license is $100 for deploy the Jclient C/S application.
Problem is that I only familar with Oracle, do not know if there is any alternative.

  • Is there a family license option of creative cloud available for purchase

Is there a family license option of creative cloud available for purchase

As of now, no. There are two license options for Creative Cloud: individual regular licenses, and volume licenses targeted at businesses: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/companies.html
The Creative Cloud license agreement allows for subscribers to download and install Adobe applications from Creative Cloud on up to two computers. These applications can be used by you and your family, but the same application cannot be running simultaneously on both computers.

  • Licensing Options for .air (& .pdf) files?

    Hello,
Does anyone have any ideas for licensing software for .air files that will be distributed?  Using .swf licensing option might also work. Most everything out there is for .exe, and is really expensive.
I'm also looking for licensing options for use in PDFs that will be distributed.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I'd start here:
    http://www.adobe.com/licensing/
    (runtimes licensing and distributions)
    http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/antipiracy/faq.html
    (Acrobat family licensing/distributions FAQ)
PDF is advertised as open format:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pdf.html
    (PDF Technology Center)
    and other forum could help:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat
Generally speaking reading EULA-s for software you're using to produce contain help to find what software is used/components licensed for use with runtime/etc (so we could avoid patent trolls - while Adobe could be hit only - in theory):

  • Purchase deployment licenses for BC4J?

The Oracle JDeveloper license covers the Oracle Business Components for Java framework's design time facilities. Deployment of applications built using the Oracle Business Components for Java framework require separate deployment licenses.
I can't find price at Oracle Store.

Check out the Oracle Store at:
http://store.oracle.com - (choose "development tools" on the left)
    or specifically at:

add it to your cart and on the second step you can choose to add support.

  • Difference entre Deployment License for Standard PC's- ETS RTOS et LabVIEW Real-Time Debug Deployment License

  • SUP's Licensing Option.

    Hi Guru's,
Can you please explain or point me in the direction of understanding the licensing mechanism with SUP? I know that there are 4 types of licensing:
    1. Personal Developer Edition.
    2. Enterprise Developer Edition.
    3. Enterprise Edition.
    4. Annual Subscription Edition.
Option 1 and 2 can be used for development and testing. The Personal Developer Edition &  Enterprise Developer Edition  is limited to use by single Standalone Seat with 5 and 20 connection limit. What does Standalone Seat mean? Do i need to procure 1 license for each developer?
Also if I am starting up a development project(Sybase) what are the licenses and softwares i need to procure?
    Thanks in advanced.
    Confused Soul.

    Hi Alessandro,
I am new to SUP; We have a requirement to develop one application for black berry
we would like to make this app generic so that we can deploy it to some other device like iphone, windows mobile etc...
Is it possible to develop a generic application using SUP ?
    Hi!
Yes it is possible, but currently the  Device Application allows to model and generate the application (not customized) only for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, while the generation of the business layer is also available for iPhone. To write an application for iPhone and iPad you must move the code of data layer generated with SUP on a Mac and then work with XCode. Once you have modeled the business layer, you can generate code for any platform.
We are in a starting stage; would really like to know the system landscape and the best way to configure the server etc...
No luck on getting trail version of sybase unwired platform, any light on how to get the trail version, best way to configure the system is greatly appreciated

  • Weblogic Application Server Development License Options

Would like to understand what is the cost effective way to procure development license of Weblogic App Server?
Requirement: Want to use WL App Server for Development Purpose. Ideally would like to install in the Developer Machine - primarily aimed at improving productivity. Eclipse with Weblogic Pluggin can enable Start/Stop/Deploy options directly from the IDE.
Checked up with Oracle Sales to findout the cost of each installment in a developer PC would cost a whopping 12K USD. TCO will go considerably high based on this kind of license policy. Hence would like to understand how organizations are managing this high cost of Development License of WL App Server?

First off, the list price of the standard edition is only $10k per CPU
Second, nobody pays list price for Oracle software, there is always room for negotiation. How big a discount you're going to get is going to depend on your ability to negotiate and what pressure your sales rep is under. Realistically, if you're plausibly considering other application servers and your sales rep is having difficulty making his quota in this economy, you probably have a decent amount of leverage.
I would strongly suspect that if you're looking to purchase 6 figures worth of software for your production environment (i.e. 4 processors @ $25k/processor for the enterprise edition) that you can probably negotiate with the sales rep to get licenses for the developers' laptops at a drastically reduced price if not for free.

  • Do I need to buy PDA deployment licenses if I'm writing an application to a non PDA device?

    Hi
I'm starting on a project that will be using a board running windows CE, I understand that I have to buy the PDA module so that I can write the application and then download it to the target using active Sync but I'm confused about the license issue.  It isn't a PDA so will I need to buy a license for each board I download to?
    Thanks
    Karen

Would the license be per build then or device type build to be more exact?  In my project we would be using the same build on a lobby display but there could be several displays on each floor of the building possible as many as 20 devices but all using the same code.  We would have other devices using different code driving indicators etc but it would be fantastically expensive to charge each button with a license fee just to enable it to turn a light on and off.  I may end up with 4 different builds being deployed on 4 different types of devices but there could be a total of 20 instances of each device.

  • Persistence Layer deployed as Optional Package

    Environment:
    - WebLogic 11g which consequently means EJB 3.0
    - Application has 3 modules: Web (referencing EJB and Persistence), EJB (referencing Persistence) and Persistence
Could I deploy my persistence layer as an Optional Package or does it have to be a Shared Library?
The reason I'm asking is that when I try to deploy my EJB module, WLS can't find the persistence unit being inject to it:
Unable to deploy EJB: StocksBean from BLayer-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar: No persistence unit named 'internalAppsPU' is available in scope BLayer-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar. Available persistence units: []
Persistence module is basically a JAR file deployed as an Optional Package with following in its Manifest:
    Extension-Name: PersistenceLayer
    Implementation-Version: 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT
    Specification-Version: 1.6
    in EJB's code I have:
    @Stateless(name="StocksBean", mappedName="StocksBean")
    public class StocksBean implements Stocks {
         @PersistenceContext(unitName = "internalAppsPU")
         private EntityManager em;
and in EJB's JAR file I have:
    pLayer-Extension-Name: PersistenceLayer
    pLayer-Implementation-Version: 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT
    pLayer-Specification-Version: 1.6
I'm deploying these one by one and not as an Application.

    Hi Arun,
Thank you so much for taking time and responding. I'm still having the same issue.
You see, I had the exact same problem when my persistence Entities were in the same Jar file as EJBs and I found out the problem was the name of the persistence.xml file (which was "Persistence.xml") and also the version of the namespace used in the XML file which conflicted with version of JPA's spi (version of JPA's spi in JEE1.6 is 1.0 and I was using version 2.0 of the namespace).
However, I got that fixed and now I'm trying to separate the layers (just moved the files around and didn't change the content). Here is what I have so far:
Name of Persistence Layer's JAR file: PLayer.jar
Manifest of Persistence Layer's JAR file:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Archiver-Version: Plexus Archiver
    Created-By: Apache Maven
    Built-By: bm03043
    Build-Jdk: 1.6.0_18
    Extension-Name: PersistenceLayer
    Implementation-Version: 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT
    Specification-Version: 1.6
Name of EJB's JAR file: BLayer-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar
    Manifest of EJB's JAR file:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Archiver-Version: Plexus Archiver
    Created-By: Apache Maven
    Built-By: bm03043
    Build-Jdk: 1.6.0_18
    Extension-List: PLayer
    PLayer-Extension-Name: PersistenceLayer
    PLayer-Implementation-Version: 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT
    PLayer-Specification-Version: 1.6
I didn't know that Extension-List entry in EJB's jar file should match with the name of Persistence layer's jar file.
As for deployment, I deploy the Player and then EJB.
    Appreciate any input.
