Deployment to Mac App Store
Hello,
does anybody have an experience what is the best method for packaging application (non-JavaFX) for Mac App Store?
I have found that it is possible to use AppBundler for doing that but then I found that JavaFX packaging tools can be used https://blogs.oracle.com/talkingjavadeployment/entry/packaging_improvements_in_jdk_7#3.
Also how is it with including Oracle JRE? Is it possible to include it from license perspective or OpenJDK has to be used?
Thanks,
Anicka
Most likely you will have to uninstall the old version and then purchase the App Store version. That's what happened with Growl.
Plus, when purchased through the App store, unless it's free, Apple will be making money from hosting the App and it's subsequent updates. Therefore, they will want their piece of the pie. So, if you have already purchased and then you want the App Store to maintain it, then you will probably have to re-purchase it.
My assumptions, but pretty sturdy. Try asking the iTunes support, but they aren't very helpful. They mainly just direct you to long legalize speak.

Flash Builder and AIR 3.3 for Mac App Store
The new AIR 3.3 will bring "Improved Mac App Store Support": http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/air3-3/
But I have 2 questions:
In what way will have be the improvement ? What do different from the past in this aspect ?
Will be (and when) a new Flash Builder version in the configuration of the Mac App Store certificate to deploy AIR apps for the Mac Store ?
As I can see from here: http://pigsels.com/2012/04/air-app-store-publishing-guide there is a lot of procedures to make that a new Flash Builder could automate/make the developer life easier and what will be different from the guide in the new AIR 3.3 from the AIR 3.2 about the App Store ?I tried this

How to submit a JavaFX app to MAC App Store?
I have packaged my JavaFX application as a self-contained application using simple JavaFX Deployment steps on MAC. According to link "Packaging a Java App for Distribution on MAC ", only the last step is remaining which describes "submitting an app to mac store" . But unfortunately links that lead us to help page are redirecting to the same page and that information is not clearly define steps required to submit a JavaFX app to mac store. Why I need XCode to submit my Java Application to App store? Do I need go through signing steps again, as my app is already sign with valid certificate issued by COMODO? Can I get any help link which guide me to submit my JavaFX app to MAC app store?
Steps so far I have done-
Create a JAR File
Bundle the JAR File into an App Package
Bundle the JRE with the App Package
Sign the App
Now what next to submit a JavaFX app to MAC App Store?Oracle are working on producing a sample for Mac App Store deployment.
RT-24728 Update Ensemble project to demo how to produce bundle for Mac App Store
The sample is scheduled for the next JavaFX feature release (2.2.60).
You can try contacting the engineer working on the sample to request details.

Flash Professional CS6 -- Easy Mac App Store Export ????
I Downloaded the Flash CS6 Trial yesterday and was really blown away over this amazing piece of software. What i noticed was that the "Mac Installer" publish did only a part of the job. It really also should had addressed Codesigning and packaging problems associated with getting Air apps on the Mac App Store. After all it was promised “Improved Mac App Store Support” wasnt it??
YES the Published .dmg had a .app inside, thats an improvement, but i had hoped for more plug and play.
Hope for changes when AIR 3.3 is out of beta...
So which options do we have left to achieve our goal? different tries with different command line tools ? 40 steps walkthroughs from non verified and often old sources ??? much guesswork, much time spent...
Does it exist a solid step by step tutorial that will not fail and covers CS6 AIR 3.2 // 3.3.B3 Publishing, Apple Certificate codesigning and packaging .pkg´s for the Mac App Store??
Any help greatly appreciated.I've got the same problem!
I'm currently using Adobe Flash CS6 and I don't gave an idea of how to deploy my apps to be published on the Mac App Store!
If you find the answer, please, let me know!
Here's my email: [email protected]
Thanks a lot! -
There is an AppBundler project: http://java.net/projects/appbundler
There are the JavaFX deployment tools: http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/deployment/jfxpub-deployment.htm
Oracle documentation for packaging apps for the mac says to use AppBundler:
http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/packagingAppsForMac.html
If I want to package a JavaFX application for delivery to the Mac App Store, should I use the AppBundler or the JavaFX packaging tools?
If the JavaFX packaging tools can be used to package an application for distribution to the Mac App Store, what are the steps to do this?
Can the JavaFX packaging tools also be used for packaging a non-JavaFX Java application for delivery to the Mac App Store? If I want to package a JavaFX application for delivery to the Mac App Store, should I use the AppBundler or the JavaFX packaging tools?JavaFX tools is way to go. At least long term (as you need to use current beta from http://jdk7.java.net/download.html and it might have bugs).
If the JavaFX packaging tools can be used to package an application for distribution to the Mac App Store, what are the steps to do this? See materials from Scott's talk at JavaOne:
https://oracleus.activeevents.com/connect/sessionDetail.ww?SESSION_ID=8224
We will publish blog on this but it may take some time.

My 10.8.3 update did not install properly citing an 'Unknown Error'. Now, my Mail and Mac App Store aren't working. What went wrong and how do i fix it ?
I tried this and still have the same problems. If I open Address book or the Mac App Store I get the library rebuild popup and a hang. I created a fresh user and then things are better apart from the printing issue. Its clearly some 3rd party software issue but the crash logs are meningless to me. I used the excellent Etre check app from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck so I have a list of what is being loaded and can compare clean and crashed user info but as I cant work out which of the startup items, launch agents, launch daemons etc that are causing the problem.
I have eliminated Dropbox, Mac Keeper and Witness, and it isnt related to my exterrnal LED cinema dispay or my external thunderbolt drives, or any USB devices if thats any help to anyone else. Info from Etrecheck follows -

Unable to login in to Mac App Store using valid account.
I recently inherited a spare MacBook Air from my wife (who got a new one). I deleted her user account, and set up a new admin user account for me. The machine is running 10.7.5.
Now, I am absolutely unable to login to the App Store. I am using my valid Apple ID -- for example, the same Apple ID that I used to gain access to this very forum. System Preferences accepts my ID. iTunes accepts my ID. BUT the App Store will aboslutely NOT respond. It will not load. I get the red "connection failed" alert, and then after several tries it doesn't respond at all.
It doesn't give any option to switch users -- perhaps once the original owner has used the App Store, the computer will never again allow anyone else to use it? It doesn't say that there is another user logged in. There appears to be no way of deleting and reinastalling the App Store. There is no cache file I can find to be cleared. There is no preference option. There is no information. There appears to be no way of fixing this at all, short of wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. Is that what I have to do? WHY IS THIS SO HORRIBLY DESIGNED? And why is there no support short of the forum? I hate this about Apple (despite being a long-time Apple evangelist and OSX devotee).
Thanks. The first thing you should do after acquiring a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked. -
How do I use my Itunes credit on the Mac App store
I have a credit in iTunes which I wish to use to buy some apps on the Mac App store. However it doesnt seem to be taking that payment method. How do I solve this?
iTunes and the Mac App Store are the same account and credits redeemed for one are available for the other. The issue may be that you have not allowed for the sales tax that the US store applies in the final steps of a sale. US prices do not yet have the local sales tax added. If the credit does nt cover the total the sustem will ask for another payment method to cover the remaining balance.

I've had my iphone 4 for a couple years, but I've recently purchased a new macbook air. For some reason, I do not have the option of syncing my apps from my iphone to itunes. I am currently running ios 6 on my phone, but I don't want to update until the apps are backed up to the computer. How do I resolve this? Also, is there a way to download and/or update iphone apps from the mac app store?
Connect the iPhone and iTunes will open automatically. Then, go to iTunes menu (on the menu bar) > Devices > Transfer purchases, and all the content downloaded from the App Store and the iTunes Store will be transferred to the MacBook. Note that in iTunes 11 you can choose the iPhone at the top right part of your iTunes window.
The Mac App Store is used to download Mac OS X apps, and the App Store is used to download apps for iPod touch, iPad and iPhone. You can't download apps for iPhone from the Mac App Store. Instead, you can download them from iTunes or from the iPhone -
My Mid-2011 Macbook Air 13-inch (OSX 10.8.1 Mountain Lion) becomes hot to the touch when trying to delete large documents, watching videos after waking it from sleep-mode and when installing applications from the Mac App Store. This has also been happening with OSX Lion before I upgraded it to Mountain Lion.
The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
What needed to be done the day that you set up the new Mac was go into the Mac App Store (MAS), sign into your iTunes/MAS Apple ID, go to the Purchases pane and Accept the iLife apps that would have been there in a special section. That would have sent you Mac's unique identifier code to Apple's servers and verified that this Mac was eligible for the bundled iLife suite and then registered these apps into your MAS account.
You might try going to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist, delete the adption plist, restart the Mac and then go to the Purchaes pane and see if you can Accept the apps into your account. -
Mac App Store does nothing when I click download on any App
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009), OS X: Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Hello,
my problem is that when I am in the Mac App Store and click download on any App or on the new OS X Yosemite (which is why I am opening this thread) nothing happens.
The font turns grey indicating that I clicked the button, but after that... nothing. I don't even get an error message telling me what's wrong.
And when I go to another Tab in the Store like from "Updates" to "Highlights" and then back to Updates it shows the button as if I didn't click it in the first place.
Images (english is not my main language):
What I did is search for hours what could be wrong. What I tried was:
- Log Out and start the application again, then log back in
- Try downloading with another Apple-ID
- Start the MacBook in Safe-Mode
- Several restarts of the MB itself
- Repair the rights to the volume (this one is tricky for me to explain: something like the HardDrive Managing Program)
Those are the things I can remember.
Other information that might be useful:
- I have a stable WiFi Connection and no VPN or similar in use
- Except from Google Chrome I didn't install anything as I got the MB a few days ago where it was as if it was used the first time
I hope you can help me as I am really desperate getting this to work.I am running OX YS X YOSEMITE 10.10.3 with a macbook pro 13" and have this same problem: App store shows there are apps to update. I click update (either just one or all), and they mac shows the update button greyed out, as if i had pressed "UPDATE". For hours on end, nothing happens. NOTHING! I've restarted the mac, which is about as much as i know. Please help me solve this issue, as i'm using Pages and numbers apps and feel like they are stuck in apple limbo/**** without the new update. Hoping to get this resolved soon.

I cant use mail or the Mac App store becuase when i go to click on a link to purchase something in the Mac App Store of create a new email in Mail, the app just crashes. I am then asked to reopen the app and i try to do the same thing again and they same thing happens. Its really painful as i want to download applications and access my mail on my mac. Hello,
I was wondering if I could add my existing, licensed apps to the list of app 'Purchases' that I have on the Mac App Store.
The reason for this is that I recently suffered the inevitable hard disk failure and I had to rebuild my MacBook Pro from scratch (with the help of Time Machine and Migration Assistant, etc.). As usual, I hadn't really maintained my MBP for quite a while and things sort of got away from me, in terms of data, apps, preferences, permissions, users (my personal account, my wife's account, my old work account...), etc.
So I wanted to rebuild my MBP on a clean slate. I like having the ability to quickly download and install just the right apps that I "really" need from MAS safe in the knowledge that:
they are there (assuming they're still available through MAS) with a full description of what they do and when I bought them, etc.
they are going to be in the most up-to-date version,
I'll be able to download and install them cleanly with no corruption from years of multiple user preference changes and permissions, etc.
that they will be managed and maintained (updated) through the same mechanism,
so much more.
The benefits of having apps from MAS are easy to see when compared to going through my downloads folder and emails looking for the latest installers, working out what they're for in the first place, finding the license key in some forgotten e-mail, etc.
I am aware that I can build a clean machine and then restore just the right apps in their most up-to-date version as I had them on my backups. The one thing to say about that is that the apps may have been used and abused once too many times and their preferences, etc. may not be in the most desirable form. It's just not as elegant as the MAS solution.
I realise that not all apps, app versions, or app vendors, are available through MAS. But I still have a fair few apps currently available on MAS that were bought prior to the existence of MAS, prior to them becoming available on MAS, or were bought directly for some other reason (by mistake).
So I wondered if there was any way I could convert my legitimate licenses from simply a direct purchase to one through MAS and have those apps listed under my 'Purchases' list. It would reduce the amount of work I'd have to do, not only to rebuild my machine but also to maintain it.
I cannot find any reference or way of having this work the way I would like it to. But I was hoping that some Apple guru would enlighten me.
I have thought about the possible mechanisms something like this would need to work and I must admit I see some not insurmountable issues (not as much technical as legal or possibly logistical). I realise that MAS is a service in its own right and as such has its own Terms, Conditions and Licensing that may not be compatible with the licenses that I already have. I also realise that when I purchase an app from MAS that I'm paying for the entire service including updates and use on multiple machines that I may own, etc. Obviously I do not want to pay the full purchase cost again for the same app twice, but I am willing to pay a small conversion/upgrade fee to have it managed as part of my 'Purchases' on MAS. Think of it in the same terms as iTunes works. I can purchase music, etc. but I can also add my own CD collection and have it managed by iTunes and store it in the cloud should anything go wrong with my local machine, etc.
So if this is currently not possible, then for the Apple MAS product managers out there, consider this as a suggestion/feedback. I'd be happy to discuss my thoughts in more detail about not only how to achieve this for now but also for the future when you may add existing applications to MAS that people may have previously bought direct and would like to have managed through MAS going forward. The benefits to the users are hopefully clear, but from Apple's perspective I hope that you can see the advantages too, commercially, etc.
PS: I apologise for the wordiness of my query and overuse of 'etc.', etc.Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?
No. Only apps purchased from the App Store can be re downloaded for free including updates. -
Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago, which I modified on 11/4/13, and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers. When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall it. When I checked "About Numbers" on my MacBook it shows "Numbers '09 version 2.3". Any suggestions as to how I can get the new version installed?
Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

Problem with Resuming and Installing Apps Purchased using Mac App Store
Recently I have been trying to download and install AeroFly FS which I purchased from Mac App Store (17GB) and with my internet connection it take some 4-5 days to download that.
I have 2 problems.
1) Resume download don't work if I happen to reboot my macbook pro for some reason after pausing the download before the reboot. When I reboot and try resuming the download... the resume button changes to install, and the download start afresh, I technically lost all my previous downloaded data.
2) The app was 17GB ( I guess thats the installer), and I had some 25GB left after the download completed. But it gave an error saying while installing that not much disk space. So I moved/deleted many item on my drive and got the disk space to some 37GB Free. But it was still giving the same error of not much disk space.
So, I thought the new avaialable diskspace was not accounted for. So, I rebooted the macbook. And to my agony, I found the roboot wiped out the 17GB installer I managed to download from Mac App Store.
So, far i have wasted almost more than a week trying to download and install this app. Now, I am re-downloading it for the third time.
Any Help will be highly appreciated.
Any Tips on how I can move the installer once it sdownloaded to my external HDD, and where can i find this installer which App store downloads?
Regards,
SapamHi ...
37GB of free space is not enough.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 20% free disk space.
