Deposit, Roaming Charges, Support

First of all, I think it is embarrassing for a company like Verizon that customers needs to ask questions in public forums because there is no customer support. I used to have a support address for Verizon and they forwarded my requests to Verizon Wireless, but I never received a reply. And a direct address or a contact form is either not available or very well hidden.
Anyway when I came to Verizon I had to pay a $400 deposit because I have no US social security. After more than two years as a customer I asked for a refund of this deposit and it has been confirmed to me several times in the last 3 months that a check has been sent to my address. The only problem is that I never received a check. So Verizon, please check this and finally refund my deposit.
Because I travel 100% of my time, I am using various cell phones from different providers in different countries. Recently I had to use my Verizon phone in Switzerland and I left the data roaming enabled for about 3 hours. There was no application running, it was just the iPhone with enabled Exchange email, so there must have been some minor data transfer. In these 3 hours Verizon generated and charged me for $500 roaming cost. To compare, when using my Swiss cell phone in the US, I get more than 3GB data roaming for the same amount.
So if these issues are not resolved by the end of next week, I will switch to a different provider, no matter what it costs to cancel the Verizon contract.

  • Can I use iPhone 4s in China without roaming charges?

We are leaving for China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore in 2 weeks. I want to purchase an iPhone 4S, but want to use it without roaming charges. Can this be done and how?

You can buy and unlocked phone (http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=iphone+4s+unlocked) and then purchase service from the local country you're visiting and insert their SIM.  It would probably be cheaper to purchase a short-term international plan from a local carrier though.  Call the major carriers and ask; here's a list:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937.  (Be careful about purchasing a phone outside of the country you're in; the warranty is country-specific.  If you buy one in Singapore you won't get warranty service in the U.S.)

  • Roaming Charges

I recently went to Cancun. I added a 1000 minute Mexico/Canada package before I went. Through an on line chat with Verizon, that is what I was told I needed to make a phone call from Cancun to the US. So 4 calls were placed from my phone to the states while I was there. None of the 1000 minutes were used and then I got zinged with roaming charges. Is that not why I would have added the calling plan a head of time? CONFUSED!!!!

I know it's important to understand your statement charges and have the right plan options to meet your needs hosejockey23efd. Did you have the opportunity to review your statement in detail(print version). This will provide a detailed breakdown of charges. http://bit.ly/xB4iTc It is possible the roaming charges you incurred were for data use and not voice calls. We are happy to review your account. Please follow and send us a PM.

  • Is there a way to use location services while in Europe without incurring roaming charges?

I am traveling in Europe and I want to use a mapping program that requires location services.  Is there any way to do this without incurring roaming charges?

  • Can I gift my unlocked iPhone 4S to my dad abroad without roaming charges?

I have a new iPhone 4S that I recently got SIM-unlocked by Verizon in preparation for my trip to Dubai (to visit my dad - he lives there). I don't quite fancy the phone as much as my earlier Droid X, so I want to give it to my Dad instead.
    Two questions:
    1. When I return from Dubai, I will activate the Droid X on my line in place of the iPhone 4S. Will this impact his ability to continue using the iPhone with his GSM carrier? I am guessing it shouldn't - I don't see how Verizon would be able to disable the phone?
    2. He travels to India fairly frequently, and since India has both GSM and CDMA (he will be using a GSM carrier there) I run a risk of roaming charges if the phone automatically connects to CDMA when the GSM signal is poor. Can I be hit by such charges from Verizon even when the phone is no longer on my line?
I guess I will find out these answers in a month or so myself, so if no one else knows, I can post the answer here when I find out for myself.

    Hello riggedveda,
Congrats on your trip to Dubai! I always wanted to go to Dubai! I hope that you have a wonderful time while you are there! Feel free to post pictures so the community members can see! I'm sure that you are aware of the many benefits of having an unlocked global device like the iPhone! May I ask does you dad have a Verizon Wireless mobile number? If he does then he can use your unlocked iPhone 4S on his number! Also, the great news is that once the iPhone 4S is unlocked, it can be used on an international carrier, even if it is not active on the line that it was unlocked on. So if you decide to let your dad use your iPhone while in India with an international carrier then he is free to do so. Since the Verizon Wireless SIM card is not in the phone, he will not incur any roaming charges from us. Below are a few recommendations that I would like to make prior to giving the device to your dad.
Sync all of your current information from your iPhone to your computer using iTunes.
Sign out of iTunes on the device and on the computer that the iPhone syncs with.
Perform a factory reset on the iPhone so your information won't be mixed with your dad's.
Verify that the device is deactivated from your mobile number before he leaves to Dubai.
Insert the international SIM card in the iPhone when he arrives in Dubai.
Activate/unbrick the iPhone using either wi-fi or a computer with iTunes and a data connection. (See link below)
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/how_to_use/activating_iphone_4.html
Even though the steps provided in the link are for activating Verizon Wireless service in the US, the steps are the same with an international SIM card while traveling abroad. If you have any additional questions or concerns then feel free to reply to this posting for more help.
    Thank you & happy traveling!...

  • Huge Global Roaming charges and no alerts!!

Recently traveled to London for a week and was wary of making sure the iPhone would work and not have crazy fees.  Talked to VZW customer service before leaving and they assured that the phone was set up to work fine and would provide text message alerts for data usage that exceeded $25,$50,etc.
Got to London, phone did not work at all.  Spent a very frustrating 1st two days there trying to get it to work with VZW telling me it should work fine.
Finally got a service rep on the phone and he went through and made some 'changes' on VZW's end which made the iPhone work in London.  Had a great trip after that but then I got the bill--> $837 in data roaming charges for 41Mb of data!  Did not get a single data use $ alert message on this the whole trip.
I could not be more unhappy at this bait and switch.
    -Mike.

    MikeP111
What exactly was the bait? Where did they switch? Did you verify that a global data plan was added to your account? If not, the $837 in data makes sense as it's over $20 per MB.

  • I live in the US, but am traveling in Mexico.  If I take a picture with my iPhone, can I transfer it to my ipad without paying a roaming charge or something?

I live in the US, but am vacationing in Mexico.  Is it possible to take pictures with my iPhone, and download them to my iPad without paying roaming charges or some other fee?

    Phil0124 wrote:
The only way you are going to get roaming charges is if you use your the celluler network in Mexico.
And believe me, the roaming charges are truly frightening!
But in those spots where 4G/LTE works ok, speed is outstanding. So they can stick you with a HUGE roaming charge in a jiffy.....

  • Using my android in Mexico without incurring roaming charges, etc.?

I want to know if I can turn off settings to be able to use my phone for pictures and using the hotels wifi and not incurring roaming charges on my phone while in Mexico.

Turn on Airplane mode and leave it there. You can turn on wifi after the phone is in Airplane Mode.

  • Can I use my iPhone 5S in Europe with the global services?  Am I exposed to extra roaming charges?

I am also traveling in the middle of a billing cycle.  Can I change my billing cycle to avoid this?

Yes you can use the 5S in Europe.  It is all roaming charges and expensive.   You can't change your billing cycle, though I am not sure why you want to Change it.  Check out Verizon global information to know rates in each country you are visiting.   Just so you are clear WARNING WARNING.  If you do not know what you are doing and use your phone in foreign countries, including all the countries of Europe, you can rack up tens of thousands (YES greater than $10,000) with very little effort.  Unless you know what you are doing, put the phone in airplane mode, and only then turn wifi on only.

  • I am going to the usa this week.  although I have a Rogers sim card inserted into my ipad I have not activated it. I don't want to incur roaming charges by activating it and taking it to the usa. any advise,

I am travelling to the usa for 10 days soon,  I wish to take my ipad, my hotel doesn't have free wireless. I have a Rogers sim card inserted by the Apple store, but I have not activated it.  I don't wish to activate it to use in the states because of roaming charges.  any suggestions.

If available in the USA, get a pre-paid micro-SIM card for the iPad and use the cellular network there.
It might be enough for 10 days (check what is available and connection rates) and could serve you again for a future trip to the USA.

  • $50 Unlimited--Domestic Roaming Charged or not?

On the website it says Domestic Roaming is .20 per minute on the $50 Unleashed Plan. So I contacted VZW online customer service and questioned how you would pay for that......and I was told there would not be any charge for domestic roaming on the $50 Unleashed Plan.
Here is the transcript of the conversation:
info: Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order.  Thank you for your patience.
info: You are now chatting with 'Morris'
Morris: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service.  May I help you with your order today?
    Jon: Hello,
Morris: Hello, how are you today?
Jon: I am looking at the $50 Unleashed program and had a question....it says under Price Info that Domestic Roaming is included.....then further ddown in the fine print it says Domestic Roaming is .20 per minute......how do you pay for Domestic Roaming?
Morris: Since verizon does not roam, there will be charge if any roaming does occur
Jon: So how are those charges added to the $50 plan?
Morris: excuse me, there will not be any charges
    Jon: So....no roaming charges?
    Morris: This is correct
Jon: So what does the fine print refer to when it says .20 per minute for Domestic Roaming?
Morris: This is if roaming occurs on a monthly plan, not prepaid plan.
Jon: OK.....but that is very confusing when you read the pricing info.
    Morris: I totally understand
Jon: Thanks for your help. Bye.
So who do I believe? The website or the Cust. Service Rep.?
Any one else have this issue?

Thanks again......it seems my understanding is correct that Domestic Roaming would refer to anywhere in US.  You correctly quoted the included features in the $50 Unleashed plan.....and in one place it does say Domestic Roaming included......however when you keep digging you get a different answer.
When you actually click to shop for the $50 Unleashed plan, look at the features list that shows up there:

This is why I am still unsure about which part of the information on VZW website is correct!
If there's any light you can shed on this I would very much appreciate it.......I have sent a second request to VZW Customer Service and am waiting for their response.
    Thank you!

As a result, Adobe Reader X opens with a warning box, cannot open in Protected Mode due to "a problem with your system configuration".
This particular error will not occur if:
AppData points to the local system drive (No AppData redirection), whether roaming or not
    C:\Users\Teacher1\AppData
AppData is redirected to point at a mapped drive for the network path:
    X:\Teacher1\0-Profile Folders\AppData
This second option is the usual workaround to Adobe's problem, but not recommended by Microsoft. Apparently it has negative effects for other Windows services and programs to use drive mappings rather than UNC paths.

  • Any chance of roaming charges in Europe if using wi-fi?

can i safely use my S4 in Europe in wi-fi mode with no chance it'll roam since they're GSM and my phone is CDMA?  is there ANY chance it could roam, or should i buy an unlocked GSM smartphone?  I'll buy the unlocked smartphone (as opposed to just unlocked feature phone) if the chance of roaming charges is >0.  I'm interested in apps like Google Maps, transit, etc.

        lkj2340j2,
We want you to travel having a peace of mind. If you were to turn off data. Settings>Connections>Data Usage>Uncheck mobile data. This will turn off your data. You can still have the chance of incurring voice and texting charges. The way to avoid that is by putting the device in Airplane mode. You still will be able to have wifi on.

  • Roaming charges, using Messages?

If one made and received Messages while in Canada, would roaming charges apply?

Not on a Mac, which uses wifi networks to send messages, not cellular networks.  If you're asking about a phone and are just in the wrong forum, that will depend on your plan.  You'll want to ask your cellular service provider.
