Deprecated features in Dreamweaver

Why is Adobe abandoning ASP.NET?
If you are going to do this, then allow PHP programmers to
use SQL Server databases in Dreamweaver. You are limiting our
ability and it sucks!

This is the same reason why Adobe abandoned Flash. Some
people might remember, before the merger Adobe tried to go after
Macromedia with GoLive. This was an alternative to Flash based off
of AfterEffects I believe. While it was a decent Flash application
and completely geared towards designers, it couldn't pull the hard
core Flash developers away from Macromedia. The reason they
couldn't do this was because Macromedia controlled the ActionScript
code and could ship new versions of ActionScript with their product
and Adobe's product would be at minimum 1 version of Actionscript
behind Macromedia because they could develop it without having to
share the code with Adobe. Thus Adobe ended up buying Macromedia to
get this end to their graphics design.
In the MS case though I don't see Adobe buying out Microsoft
and thus they are in the same predicament. Do you develop behind
the standard or do you drop the ASP.NET standard from your
products. Obviously they chose the latter as they have time and
time again. This is smart business, and it gives MS the upper hand.
In the same respect MS is at fault because they leave Mac
developers in the dark because the ASP.NET tools are only available
on the Windows OS (virtualization aside of course). So Microsoft
can be the same way.

Thanks for the answer this is very useful however I still find that Dreamwever defaults back to writing in CSS, I have to go to the manel every time and switch from CSS style to Inline style which is very irritating. Is there any way to disable writing in CSS all together like their used to be in CS3..in the preferences.

Golive GL's UI and features for Dreamweaver

Why is it that Adobe will not adopt the Golive GL's UI and features for Dreamweaver? AS a designer Golive has a much superior design interface then does Dreamweaver. Adobe should take the grid drag and drop features in Golive and incorporate into Dreamweaver.

On the contrary. I come from print and pagelayout with PageMaker/Quark/InDesign. I am not a coder. Nowadays I CAN read code though I never really write it (just as exception). I've used GoLive since version 1. Once upon a time I said I would never have anything to do with code. That was then. Today the situation is different and creating websites need knowledge of both html and css. Or your pages will very soon not work as meant in any modern browsers.
You don't have a choice. There is no such thing nowadays for wellfunctioning websites than learning and using html and css. There is no such thing as a website without having to do some coding.

Search feature with dreamweaver template

I'm building a site with products ids, I need to include a search feature that can find a specific product within the site. I found a template in Dreamweaver that includes the search form. How can I learn how to make it work? Is there any script out there for this? Thank you

Search is a server-side thing or something based on a pre-fab XML/ JavaScript that holds the indices and keywords. A input field named search in any form doesn't mean anything if the logic behind is missing. Depending on what you are looking for, something like this may get you started: http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/. For more complex stuff, you will have to use PHP or other server languages or rely on Google...

Library Item: Where is the Library Item feature in Dreamweaver CC?

I recently downloaded my trial of DW CC. I've looked in the Assets Panel, but I have yet to find where the Library Item feature is?

Ask Adobe to add features to Dreamweaver while it's still in Beta

If you didn't already know, Dreamweaver CS4 is now available as a public beta for everyone to try.

There is a forum (linked on the above page) which is specifically related to the Dreamweaver beta release and it's probably our best chance to ask for the "missing" features we know and love in GoLive before the software is finalised.
Please add your voice to the forum (Adobe is watching it) so the best bits of GoLive aren't lost forever.

You can also mention problems you have with the beta software on the forum - Adobe engineers are watching and have reported that they are logging the bugs.
It is better (in terms of getting Adobe's attention) to log bugs and request features on the official beta forum than it is to list them here on the User to User forum.

Unable to locate disabled features of Dreamweaver on Mac OS X?

I'm college student trying to follow this Adobe tutorial: Server behaviors, Databases, and Bindings in Dreamweaver CC
I'm sing Dreamweaver CC 2014 on Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks). My goal is to get MySQL connection abilities within Dreamweaver.
So here's my question. The tutorial says that a file should exist here:
/Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CC/Configuration/DisabledFeatures/Deprecated_ServerBehaviorsPanel_support.zxp
I'm able to get this far:
/Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CC 2014/Configuration/
But inside this Configuration directory, I am not able to find a directory titled DisabledFeatures. I have installed Adobe Extension Manager CC, restarted Dreamweaver, all to no avail.
Any ideas what's going on? Alternatively, if you could just provide me with a direct link to the .zxp file(s) that would be great. Just need to get this working, please. Thank you....

In DW CC 2014, Server Behavior extension is available through the AddOns page, Can you please try the following steps:
1. Download/Install the latest Adobe Creative Cloud Application from creative.adobe.com and make sure to turn on File Sync.
2. Launch Dreamweaver. Goto Windows menu>>Browse AddOns.
3. Search for Server behavior in the AddOns page.
4. Now quit Dreamweaver.
5. After quitting Dreamweaver click the Install button against the Extension in the AddOns page.
7. Wait for some time for a notification to be displayed in the Creative Cloud Application. After successful installation of the extension you should receive a notification the Creative Cloud app saying "You installed the AddOn Server Behavior & Database"

Accessibility Features in Dreamweaver

I am currently designing a site and was wondering how you set
the access keys (you press alt and certain number and this takes
you to specific page) like the ones found on the following site:

My feeling on Access keys is DON'T use them ... its more
because the key
combos are already used by screen readers, I work for the
government in the
UK on one of the biggest UK websites and we regularly discuss
accessibility,

Error SQL70015: Error validating element [dbo].[GetDocument]: Deprecated feature 'String literals as column aliases' is not supported

Using MS SQL Management Studio 2012 attempting to export (from GoDaddy) a .bacpac database for import to Azure and get the error message listed in the Title (String literals as column aliases is not supported on SQL Azure). There was a discussion of this
problem in mid-2013, but it ended with saying that this was a bug with Azure validation, but had been fixed and did not require rewriting of databases. Anyone with a clue how to successfully export/import around this?

A string enclosed in quotation marks used as a column alias for an expression in a SELECT list is not support in Windows Azure SQL database. Please use "expression [AS] column_alias" instead of " 'string_alias' = expression ".
In your case, you can try to create an application with in SSDT and use Schema Compare to filter out and fixed incompatible objects, and then deploy the database to Windows Azure SQL database.

9i Deprecated feature

All,
The alter index interface for SYNC and OPTIMIZE is no longer
supported. We have discouraged the use of alter index for SYNC
and OPTIMIZE since the PL/SQL interface for these was added in
8.1.6. Failures during sync or optimize can invalidate the index
when using the alter index interface, forcing a complete index
rebuild. The PL/SQL API does not carry this risk.

On NT as well : not only on unix?
Cannot get hold of tkprof for nt (oarcle9). Full install done.

CS6: how to update 12.0 to 12.2? [was: cs6 1200 updates]

I have cs6 Version 12.0 build 5861
I understand there is a later version 12.2 Build 6006.
According to Help Updates the applications are all up to date.
Can anyone say how I can get the latest updates please?

As John said, 12.2 was rolled out to Creative Cloud members only.
CS6 12.0 is now 6 versions back from the currently offered Cloud version -- CC 2014.1 (October Release).
There have been many significant changes made to DW during the Creative Cloud's rapid release cycle.

Adobe provides the worst help ever! What a bad approach this is. I click Help in my software and am taken to the Adobe website where I've been clicking around forever trying to find a simple Getting Started Guide for my version of the product. So far, I can only find these ridiculous videos. I just want to read a simple guide for creating a site.I don't want to watch these ridiculous videos. What a waste of time!! Do you have any Tech Writers? Can you just provide a simple step-by-step guide for getting started? This is really annoyingly bad.

Coursebuilder features not showing up in Dreamweaver

After installing the eLearning Suite, I'm not seeing the Coursebuilder features in Dreamweaver. The Quiz templates show up in Flash, but no Coursebuilder in DW. Anyone else encounter this?

What is supposed to happen is that when you launch Dreamweaver, the Adobe Extension Manager launches, then downloads and installs the CourseBuilder extension. Dreamweaver CS6 versus CC feature set question

I must not have been paying close attention when CC was announced. I had the distinct impression the current version of CS6 would be maintained and updated and CC would be "next version". I see that "CC" for Dreamweaver is version 12.1 while my version of CS6 is version 12.0xxx. I read about a number of new update features in Dreamweaver - the update was for version 12.2.
To cut to the chase, have ALL updates (other than obvious critical ones) to CS6 been concluded? Is it now, basically, end of life?
I'm a student - I paid $450 in February 2013 for a student copy of the suite; if I need to upgrade (and Dreamweaver changes suggest yes), I'll have to start paying $20/month student rate to get these version 12.x updates. Budgets are tight; I just want to make sure that's what I have to do. It's not like I actually have a second option in the marketplace to replace it..... The changes in 12.2 are critical for my use/education.

Does dreamweaver have video-website features?

Hi,
Basically I'm trying to create a site where I can host videos
and the website visitors can stream these videos on my website. I'm
trying to find out if dreamweaver has some useful features built in
such as the the following:
>ability for users to post comments
>ability to allow users to embed the video they are
watching into a blog
>ability for users to rate videos and have the average
rating be displayed for each video on its page
>ability to allow the user to email video link to a friend
>ability for users to add videos to their "favorites"

mean entering the code in dreamweaver, which makes these functions
work? or do you mean that dreamweaver has some kind of support for

Well I'm going with a webhosting company, but they don't have
this Clip Share software on their servers. I would most likely have
to buy a license for it so they can install it on their servers.
They do run Linux and offer php/perl/CGI.
So basically it would be easier for me if I could use
dreamweaver or find a dreamweaver plug-in that offers these
video-sharing site features, and allow you to admin it from the
client side (before uploading to the webhost's ftp).
