Depth, 3D, canvas restriction and masks -in Motion 4.

Hello.
I'm a digital artist, and work with Maya in combination with Motion 3.
Is there an improvement in the "compound blur" filter. Does Motion 4 support depth in the image based on grayscale images, rendered out of 3D packages?
The "compound blur" found in Motion 3 is quite buggy, and I've been forced to find several work arounds in order to use it.
I saw in another post, that Motion and Cinema 4D, can work together. Does Motion support 3D files, like camera movement from other packages, like Maya also? A plugin?
Is there still a canvas restriction in Motion 4?
In Motion 3 using masks based on images, can give quite a few problems, for apparently no good reason at all. The mask seems to change size, and you'll have to find workarounds and so on. Is this still a problem in Motion 4? Any experiences?

The camera data can only be exported from C4D 11.5 AFAIK.
I'm not seeing issues with image masks in M4 yet.

Using Mattes and Masks to add real mouths to stop frame animation.

Hi all, I'm new to Final Cut Pro, having only really used Avid on PC in the past. I'm currently studying animation in my third year at university and I seem to have hit a stumbling block.
Basically I have created a short stop frame animation featuring various characters, movements and shots etc. From here I would like to be able to add 'real' mouths to those characters (by means of filming the lips/mouths of my voice actors in video format and super imposing them). So here's where it gets complicated (for me at least!).. Whilst I have read that it is possible to overlay sections of video upon original video using Mattes and Masks I haven't been able to find any instructions as to how I would be able to accomplish this with images which are moving around the screen (I.E. I would need to add a mouth to a character who is walking along a road, from left to right, and so I would need to be able to manipulate the location of the mouth so that it was always located over my characters face). I hope that my question makes some sense , I wont get my hopes up for a resolution, but this seems to be quite a busy board and I've managed to pick up a few tips from here recently so hey, worth a shot .

Forgot to mention that you'll have to keyframe the mask to move as well.
If the speach shots are not moving then you have definately made things much simplier for yourself.
For a simple example of keyframing. (Don't blame me if I confuse you further)
Load a clip in the viewer. (make sure that you have the canvas set to IMAGE and WIREFRAME.
Click the MOTION TAB in the viewer. Each of the Basic Motion attributes can be controled individually over a period of time. This is done by placing keyframes on the timeline to the right of each attribute.
Place the playhead (in the canvas) at the start of your clip, then press the round button in the Centre attribute section. The black dot added to the timeline is your first keyframe.
Now move the playhead further down the timeline and press the round button in the Centre attribute section again. Now click the imag in the Canvas and drag it to the right.
Now when you play the clip the shot will move left to right, one keyframe to the next.
That's it in a very small nutshell. And remember, almost any effect or motion can be keyframed.

Error when creating tweens and masks

Hi Guys, i seem to be having a porblem with any sort of tweens, motion (classsic) and shape.
when i create a new motion tween for example, i get the yellow "!" error in properties and it says "Motion tweening will not occur on layers with ungrouped shapes or on layers with more than one group or symbol". Thing is, i dont have more than one symbol or thing more than one shape and that is actually being tweened.
the ! error only shows when i select the last frame in the tween. any ideas how i can get around this? i've never had this problem previously.
when i create a motion tween, i draw the object (in this case a circle), right click on the single keyframe, select create motion tween, then copy this keyframe and paste it further down the timeline, say at frame 10. At frame 10, i will move the circle to another location. the tween seems to work and it has created the symbol in the libary (tween 1) as a graphic, and when i export, it works ok, but the last frame has still the same error with the "!". Same thing happens with shape tweens.
In this case i have used a shape tween to make a circle become larger, and this which is my mask layer, with the masked later underneath, which is a static shape which i have drawn with the pencil tool. The mask works fine in flash, but when exproted, nothing shows.
I've linked to an example .fla file of the problem that i am having with the tween and also the mask layer. The main animation is in a movie clip called "Drop 10", in the libary.
Any help would be great as this is driving me mad.

Primary Canvas restrictions ???

It's mentioned in Forms Documentaion (R 6i):-
Primary Canvas restrictions
The specified view must be a content view (Canvas Type property set to Content), and must be assigned to the indicated window (by setting the Window canvas property).
But if I make a tab page/stacked canvas primary canvas of a window it works fine & doesn't cause any problem. So where does this primary canvas restriction applies To really it surprised me a lot.
Where I am wrong means a form is running without any content canvas

Sure. Indexes will use whatever values are in the column. The only problem you'd run in to is if you had spaces but didn't want to use those spaces for comparison.
select indexedVarcharColumn
from someTable
where indexedVarcharColumn = 'h kj';will use the primary key index. You'd only run into problems if you had a query that called a function (TRIM for example) to remove the spaces.
select indexedVarcharColumn
from someTable
where TRIM(indexedVarcharColumn) = 'b';won't use the primary key index (or any index). Depending on the version & edition of the database you have, you may be able to create a function-based index on TRIM(indexedVarcharColumn) if that's what you want to query against.

Is it possible that there is no color mask in Motion 5?
It is present in FCPX.

In the Keyer, you can go into the advanced controls and fine tune color selection more easily than any other Keyer I've worked with. They are not 15 year old plugins. They are very capable if you learn to use them correctly. I suggest the Ripple Training videos to properly learn now to use Motion. It can be a very powerful app.
I strongly suggest you start with the user manual, then do some proper training.

I do what I sort of think you're trying to daily without a second thought in Motion. Just take a deep breath, and take the time to learn it properly.
If you tell us what exactly the effect is you're trying to build, we can give you some guidance. This may or may not be the best strategy to achieve it.

I understand that I can set up a different Apple ID for the kids devices, or take physical control of the device and make the changes myself. However, my teenage son is technically savvy enough to have a job in Silicon Valley, as are most young people these days. However, in order to access his devices the current way, I first have to bypass the four digit pass code. This starts a fight of why I need in the device and continues to escalate. The argument that I am the parent will gain access but the fight is simply exhausting, and quite frankly shouldn't have to happen at all. He is not yet an adult, he did not pay for his iPad or iPhone and I, as a parent, should have not only have the right to change options at will, and from anywhere, but look at history or current activity when I feel like it.
I currently have the settings where app and in-app purchases require my password to be put in, and he must come to me to type it in, but I need more control and would like, and should be able to access any of our six devices and make individual changes simply by logging in to my account, with my password.
If I can see all my devices on the "Lost My iPhone" app, this technology should be easy to make happen.
C'mon parents! I have a pretty good kid, given all things that they can get into, but I am not stupid. For everything I see has been done, there is much more I haven't seen. I want my children to be kept safe and be able to know what they are looking at or listening to. We parents are the only ones who know our beliefs and what our kids can handle and when.

There are mobile device management solutions that can do this, including in Apple's OS X Server system, but most parents generally find that setting this up is more work than it's worth. If you're interested, though, there are a couple that at least purport to be free (I don't know if there are any hidden "gotchas"):

I don't think any, however, allow you to see current activity or browser history. iOS doesn't expose those to access from MDM solutions, to the best of my knowledge.

Copy and Paste the Motion

I would like to know how to Copy and Paste the Motion Parameters (i.e. scale) settings from one clip to another.

Copy your clip, select the other clip, right-click (or control-click), choose "Paste Attributes", and check "Basic Motion".

My restrictions are on and I didn't turn them on. The code is not the one I use to unlock my ipad. How can I find out the code to turn off my restrictions and why did it turn on?

The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings. Hope you have a backup.
Follow the instructions in iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

I had enabled my restrictions by accidant and some of my icons apps gone missing and if I wanted to open them I have to go to the app store, then I disabled my restrictions and they are still not showing on the home screen!

iPhone apps don't work on Macs and Mac apps don't run on iOS devices like an iPhone. If you sync an iPhone to a Mac, the apps from the iPhone are stored in the Mac's iTunes app's media library as a backup.
The App Store app on a Mac is not the same as the App Store app on the iPhone. The Mac version is the Mac App Store, apps for Macs. The iPhone version is the iTunes App Store, apps for iOS devices.

How can I export an image from Illustrator same canvas size and custom resolution?

Hey all. i am using Adobe Illustrator CS5 for creating images for iPhone app icons the size of image 374 px 374 px and 264 ppi. i created an image same size and ppi .the problem after export the image file size changing to 1371px x 1371px and 264 ppi pixel dimension.How can I export same canvas size and same resolution file from illustrator

If you just forget about PPI and use Save for Web, you will get the 374 x 374 pixel size.
The 1371 x 1371 pixels is because you somehow increase the resolution by 264/72.
You should never mix pixel by pixel sizes and PPI.
The 374 x 374 pixels is the actual image size. At 264 PPI that will be about 1.417 inches. At 72 PPI that will be about 5.194 inches.

I think where Frank said "one-time triggers" he meant "non_repeating TIMERS".
Here is an alternative way to get around the restricted built-in problem which does not seem to be widely known:
Create two numeric control fields, say TRIGGERING_FIELD and TRIGGERED_FIELD.
TRIGGERED_FIELD has a formula calculation property of
MY_FUNCTION(:TRIGGERING_FIELD)
MY_FUNCTION is created in the form program units and can do anything you want, including restricted built-ins. The value it actually returns is irrelevant (although you could use it as a return code if you want).
Then all you need to do is modify the value of TRIGGERING_FIELD (perhaps multiply it by -1 ) which you can do in a trigger that does not allow restricted built-ins. The calculation will see that its input parameter has changed and will recalculate, thus running the function and doing all the restricted stuff.
