  • My friend have new Macbook Air with OSX Mavericks and I have Macbook Pro with OSX Mountain Lion, Can I create a bootable maverick in pendrive from macbook air and perform a clean installation/update on my macbook pro with osx mountain lion?

I have late 2012 edition Macbook Pro, I have a internet connection with does not run smoothly It gets disconnected and reconnects Thus I failed everytime when I update my OSX Mountain Lion to Mavericks in App Store. My friend just bought 2013 end Macbook Air whicch have OSX Mavericks pre installed.
I was hoping if I can create a OS X version in pendrive from his laptop and use that to install and thuss also update OS on my Mountain Lion.
Kindly explain me in detail how to perform this.
I have already taken back up of all files and I am ready to total clean my laptop.
And I want to update to Maverick so I can thus further update to upcoming OS X Yosemite.

The Mavericks on the Air is probably machine specific since it came pre-installed, so it wouldn't work on your computer. See if your friend will let you access the App Store, where you can sign in using your Apple ID and download the installer. You can use this free program to copy the installer and update your computer.

  • Installing .air file on osx Mavericks keeps asking for installation package

After upgrading to OSX Mavericks and Upgrading to Adobe CC I'm having trouble installing .air files.
I'm working on OSX Mavericks 10.9.1
I have built an Air application with the Air4.0 SDK in Flashbuilder 4.7 and packaged a release build as a signed Air Package.
When I try to install it by double clicking the .air file , the Air Application Manager Starts but asks for an Installation package instead of using the package I just doubleclicked.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    kind regards
    Patrick

    Hi
I never had Air 3.8 installed on my machine (after a clean install of osx mavericks). Only 3.9  4.0beta and now 4.0 release.
Even now that I reinstalled 4.0.0.1390 I'm not able te uninstall. It still give an "already installed message)
The Package insttaltion problem occurs with any .air file, so for instance even the air SettingsManager.air from the adobe site.
It's probably some hickup with my machine, but I don't know where to look anymore.
I'm not sure what you mean by the app.air file.
I have sent a a simple .air file to your mail address.
Oddly enough when I double click any .air file (and the "select installation package" window appears) and then doubelclick the .air file again from the finder,
the air installation window does appear behind!! the "select installation package" window ( but I can't click it ).
So it seems that, when first opened, the Adobe AIR Application Installer doesn't receive the file path of the .air file that was clicked.
    Best Regards
    Patrick

  • Launchpad installation frozen after installing OSX Mavericks. One small blue dot on progress bar?

Downoladed new OSX Mavericks . New Safari OK. Launchapd still shows dowlad in progress on OSX after hours??  Why wont it finish download?

I just had this same thing happen to me. My rMBP was kernel panicking, giving random error messages, freezing, and all sorts of other unrelated things. Took it to my local apple store (Authorized Service center, not Apple-owned) and after many tests passing, they couldn't figure it out. I told them that when I hit the bottom of the laptop a few times it would boot up. It hung on a gray screen for awhile, and hitting the bottom caused it to boot up immediately.
I then proceeded to tell the person that the SSD is likely loose. What did not make sense is that during the hardware tests the drive was recognized and passed with flying colors. Upon reboot, nowhere to be found. Long story short, the tech eventually decided to give an SSD reseat a try and what do you know- booted up the first time, no problems, no errors. Didn't cost me anything.
I also had other random things happen, such as WiFi needing disabled/enabled each time the computer woke from sleep or was turned on, graphical glitches, and so forth. Although none of those things are SSD related, they are fixed. Maybe the diags were what fixed those, not entirely sure. It appears to work as good as new. Now I don't need to do an OS reinstall. Yay.

Illustrator 5.1 crashes while starting the app after update to OSX Mavericks (10.9)
    What can I do?

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. Never install crapware such as "CleanMyMac" or "Cocktail."
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Help to do Clean install OSX Mavericks

I am using osx Mavericks now by upgrading from osx Mountain Lion, I am not feeling better after upgrading, so decided to clean install Mavericks on my Macbook Pro13' 2012 model. Can anyone please assist me to do clean install osx with directions means step by step or picture view.If anyone help me to do this i fell

The default solution for installing OS X Mavericks is to download it free app store and then perform an upgrade from a previous version of Mac OS X, whether that’s from Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard. Upgrades are fast, efficient, and most important, very easy, and that’s the recommended option for the vast majority of Mac users. Nonetheless, some users may want to start fresh with a blank slate, using what’s known as a “clean install” and that’s what we’re going to cover here. Performing a clean install can be desirable for a variety of reasons, from ditching years of built-up cruft on older Macs from many years of OS X upgrades, to troubleshooting difficult issues, to transferring ownership of a Mac to a new owner.
The process of a clean install is not difficult if you follow these instructions, but because it involves formatting the Macs hard drive, it can result in extra work. Since the Mac will start with a clean slate, all apps must be downloaded and installed again, important documents and personal data must be manually transferred back over from backups, and system settings must be customized again. This typically makes it more appropriate for advanced users or for select situations (like selling a Mac), and thus it should not be considered a standard upgrade path to get to OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Warning: Performing a format and clean install of OS X will erase the Macs hard drive and all contents on the drive will be removed. All files, applications, documents, photos, customizations, everything on the computer will be lost in this process. Understand this and know what you are doing, and why, to prevent data loss of critical files. We can not reiterate this enough.
How to Format & Clean Install OS X Mavericks on a Mac
You will need a bootable OS X 10.9 installer drive to accomplish a clean Mavericks install using this method. You can learn how to easily create one here if you haven’t done so yet.
Back up the Mac first with Time Machine or by manually backing up your important data – do not skip this step or else you will not be able to recover files
Connect the bootable OS X Mavericks installer drive to the Mac and reboot the computer
Hold down the OPTION key during boot until you see the boot selector menu, then choose “Install OS X Mavericks”
At the “OS X Utilities” screen, choose “Disk Utility”
Select the hard drive or partition to format from the left menu, then choose the “Erase” tab
Select format type “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”, give it a logical name (like Macintosh HD), and choose “Erase”, confirm to erase at the next screen
When finished erasing the disk, quit out of Disk Utility to return to the normal boot menu
From the “OS X Utilities” menu, now choose “Install OS X”, click “Continue” and agree to the terms of service, and select the freshly formatted “Macintosh HD” drive to begin the clean install process
(Excuse the unusual picture quality, some images taken with an iPhone 5 during the boot install process where screen shots are not allowed)
A clean installation of OS X Mavericks takes about 35-45 minutes to complete, depending on the speed of the install drive and the volume OS X is being installed onto. When Mavericks is finished installing, the Mac will reboot itself automatically and go through the initial setup process for OS X Mavericks. Register, create a user login, set the Apple ID and iCloud details, and you’re all done. You’ll boot directly to a very blank OS X installation, similar to the experience of getting a brand new Mac.
A fresh OS X installation is very bare with just about nothing included outside of the core system and basic Mac apps (intentionally so), thus any custom applications or apps you had previously downloaded from the web or App Store will need to be downloaded and installed again. For apps from the Mac App Store, that’s fairly easy, but for third party apps you will need to access them independently through the developers.
If you are keeping the Mac yourself, you will probably want to transfer your old data, documents, photos, and files back onto the Mac. This is a good time to access Time Machine to selectively restore certain files, or access backups made to network drives, DropBox, CrashPlan, external backup drives, USB flash disks, whatever your preferred backup method is and from where ever stored your data.
