Derivation rule CO-PA, number of target fields

Hi all,
is there a possibility to have more than 6 target fields in a CO-PA derivation rule or is the only way to handle more fields with a separate rule based on the same source field?

Dear Adrian,
If you want to update more than 6 target field in one derivation step, as for I know is not possible but create a new derivation step with same source and additonal target fields, otherwise use exits.

Hello Kalim - Thanks. I have already configured Search string the way you suggested me last time and imported the statement during testing. It is working fine.
Can you pls tell me in which scenario "mapping prefix field" should be maintained. Now, I will try to understand this from F1 help.
For Search Strings already defined in our System long ago that Posting rule is not specified in Target field in mapping field, but maintained Mapping prefix.

COPA Derivation based with target field as non-copa field

Hello experts,
There is a requirement to derive the Characteristic maintained in Classification view(AUSP table) in Material master based on material number.The target field into which the characteristic value needs to be populated is not in COPA(it is a non-copa field).
I tried to use table look up with AUSP table, but it is asking for values of certain key fields like
ATZHL(Characteristic value counter) MAFID(Indicator: Object/Class) and
KLART(Class Type), which are not there in COPA.
With the Enhancement in KEDR transaction, EXIT_SAPlKEDRCOPA_001 and Include ZXKKEU11, I created an enhancement step by giving the material as the key in the source fields.With that material number I can do a select on the AUSP table inside the include ZXKKEU11 and get the characteristic value. The problem i am facing is that the target field which stores the internal characteristic value is not there in COPA?And while creating a derivation rule, I can only select the COPA fields as target fields.
It's urgent....any suggestions please? Points will be rewarded for any useful answer.

Hi,
As far as I know the derivation functionality in COPA is meant for derivation of characteristic values to store them in a characteristic field.
If you splitt up the derivation in two steps it might be possible to use the USERTEMP fields, to store the information needed and to pass it on to an other lookup step as a key-reference.

FMDERIVE and derivation rule

I made in FMDERIVE the following derivation rule:
if account number is a certain account number
the get a certain value for grant_nbr, profit_center and wbs_element.
In test (with trace active) the system gives the expected result.
However when doing a real FI transaction only grant_nbr is filled.
The other two elements are left empty.
SAP support tells me that this is normal because FMDERIVE is only for FM fields.
But why are those other fields available then?
And why does it work in test mode?
Has anyone an alternative in mind?

FMDERIVE can be used only for Funds Mgt related fields
For Profit Center/WBSE you might want to try substitution rules.
For WBSE - you can use CO Substitutions and for Profit Center you can use PCA substitution
But you need to also see if your WBSE also has a profit center, in which case the system will pick up the Profit Center from the account assignment object.

Derivation rules table name KEDE

Hi,
I have to fetch the values from Derivation rules maintained in KEDE & 8KER. But the derivation tables names are created by system and the names are system dependent and client dependent.
Eg : K9RS013900010 where S01 is my development system and 390 is the client. If the derivation rule is created in Quality and Production systems, the Table names will differ accordingly.
Is there any solution to the above problem. Is there any FM or some way to get the derivation table name.

COPA derivation rule :more than 6 target fields

Hi ,
As per client's requirement I need to include 10 target fields in a COPA derivation rule . Now after entering 6 , I can see rest of the rows are greyed out ; it looks like SAP does not allow more than 6 as target .
I tried to find out if such limitation is mentioned anywhere in SAP documentation but I could not find ; if anyone has any reference doc on that please let me know .
Secondly , how to meet the requirement ? I can break the same into 2 separate derivation , say 6 target & related rule value in the first and in just next step another 4 targets & rule value ; the source remains same in both the step .
OR any COPA user exit / enhancement will help me accommodate all 10 targets in a single step of derivation ? as far as my knowledge goes SAP provided COPA user exits (1 to 5) will not be helpful here .

Dear Indranil Sen,
As per my knowledge it is not possible to mention more than 6 source and target fields for a derivation rule.
Because for that program, SAP defines that (1+5) fields for that screen.
That is the reason you are getting the gray color after 6 entries
Yes we can increase that limit but for that we need the access key.
If you have access key authorization, you can increase the limit
Reasons in detail:
Screen filed what you are looking for is:
DYNP5400-SRC-NAME-FIELDNAME
There you can enter (1+5) entries only. enhancement for that field is difficult.
So you can opt for 2nd option as you said.

Set characteristic as a series number in Derivation Rule

Could characteristic set as a series number in COPA derivation rule?
I tried to derive a field which is a series number created by system.
Could I make it?

I attempted to derive EIKP-TEXT1 in derivation rule, which data in target field u201CEXNUMu201D was always created by system automatically.
It confused me to configure this rule.

COPA derivation rule for GL fields

we are using Transaction type (BSEG_BEWAR) to store additional information for our Sales reporting. During the GL entry this field is update. I have created Derivation rule in COPA using table look up. The table I am using is BSEG. I have characteristics defined for Transaction type- WWTTY.
when the table lookup is populated I get following fields in source as target :
BSEG -
> BUKRS                                COPA --> BUKRS
BSEG -
> BELNR                               COPA -
> BELNR
BSEG -
> GJAHR                              COPA ---> GJAHR
BSEG -
> BUZEI                               COPA -
> WWDOC ( This is custom defined in COPA)
Assignment of Target Fields:
BSEG ---> BEWAR                                COPA -
WWDOC
Still I am in seeing COPA getting updated with Transaction type value.
Need input to solve this issue.

Thank you so much for your reply.Please note that the GL is a cost element but the category in system is 1 and not 12.However I would like understand as to why is this happening.why does the system picks up derviation rule for a Gross sales GL and not for Discount GL(Cost element).
The distribution channel gets updated for sales GL when i check the prof segment of the line item, however this is not the case with doscount GL.
I would like to understnad the implication before changing cost element category from 1 to 12 as it runs across system.
Kindly provide some more explaination.

When I run the LDS, The system issues this error message :
"Source selection derived from target field Cons Chart of Accts is empty"
Although, mapping of Cons Chart of Accts in LDS for this method is defined as constant value.
I can't load data from raw data cube. What can be the reason ?

FM DERIVER Custom field in Derivation Rule

Hi Experts,
I want to have a custom field while defining Derivation Rule in TCODE FMDERIVE, the field I require is Storage Location LGORT. Inorder to achieve this I have used Customer Include in structure FMDERIVE and inserted field LGORT.
Now the problem is that when I am defining my custom Derivation Rule using custom field Storage Location, the rule is not determined.

after the migration of transfer rules,activation of transfermation i am getting this error for two fields.

This is a common problem which we get after migrating to BI7 .
Do one thing copy the formula some where and delete the formula save it activate it . then create the formule once again .
save it and then activate it . You will not get syntax error any more .

Hi Suneel,
Normally you would want to load data for an InfoObject, so if you are not, the system just warns you. Like you also get warning when adding or removing nav attr from an InfoObject. Even if you are doing that for a reason, the system will prompt with warnings before activating the object.

Hi,
Derivation of characteristics happen if the existing characteristics does not support your requirements. Such derivations are based upon other characteristics.
There are different ways to derive characteristics. Such ways are -
1. Table look up : Here the characteristics are dereived based on reading a table.
Constraint: The source field should be the key field in the table
Example: U want to have a characteristics Division based out of Material Master.
Source field : Product Number (Key field of MARA)
So based on the pdt number, the material master table is read and the division is identified. If the record is found, the division is fetched and used
2. Move: Copies the constant from the source char to the target char
Example: If sold to party and ship to party are same.
source: Sold to party
Requirement: U want to determine the char Ship to party
So whatever data in soldtoparty is moved to ship to party for derievng its char
3 Clear: deletes the value of charac and move back to its initial value
Example: if based on certain condition, the value of char should be initialized\
If Product number=124, then CLEAR employee no char.

Derivation rule at asset retirement

Hii experts,
we have requirement of assets procurement through grants they receive. Funds of fund center got consumed at the asset acquisition but when i m triyng to retire/scrap assets... its giving an error for FI313 I.e
No funds center entered/derived in item 00001 (1000/2000000122/)
I came to know that we need to prepare some derivation rule of the retirement of assets to resolve the issue.. Please guide me as i am very new to grant management...

Dear Abhay,
Since you have created Asset Codes in Asset Master, you have to provide Asset Codes in Asset Retirement Derivation Rule, so that system can derive proper values as per your derivate rule. You have to maintain the following derivation rule for Asset Retirement:
Transaction Type (TT)+Asset Code (To-From)+Document Type(DT)=Target Commitment Item
Mention all the Asset Code number ranges maintained in the system, while Document Type AA will be used for TT 200 (Retirement without Revenue) and Document Type DR will be used for TT 210 (Retirement with Revenue). You can derive statistical or dummy commitment item (60 and 3) for processing of transaction.
Further, you can also add cost centre as source field to derive funds centre. Also make sure you keep the rule in the logical order, since it may affect the derivation of fields. Also check note 666322 to make use of trace feature to ensure proper derivation of values.

COPA Derivation rule not running in background

Hi all
We are encountering a strange problem during derviation in document posting & creation of assets.
We have added a characteristic value Material group to the profitability segment and have added a derivation rule in KEDR based on order.
The rule is if the value of order number is filled then the material group is assigned a value.
Order number Assigned Material Group
Z0000000001 = 001210
The problem is that we have to manually go into the PA segment and click the derivation button OR just press enter to get the derivation working.
If we do not access the PA segment area then the derivation is not carried out in the background.
I have tried searching for notes and for some relevancy on the forums.
I have also taken screen-shots and uploaded them, please view in order.

We require that the derivation runs in the background after we enter the line item details. The system is not picking the derivation if we directly post the document without checking the PA segment.
If there is some BADI or user exit we could use to manually replace the COPA characteristics explicitly at document posting, please let me know

Moves it let you copy a constant or the content of the source field to target field.
