Descreening?

Hi, I'm a newbie to this so sorry in advance for the dumb question but I'm stuck:
I just got Photoshop E7 at a friend's recommendation (since I've just moved to Vista becuase my old tower crashed) and the HP scanning software on my old XP tower had an option to "Descreen printed originals" when I was scanning a photo to save as jpg and the HP scanning software on this new Vista tower doesn't seem to have this option.
So I need to ask: Is there a way I can do this in APE7?
If so, where do I find it?
If not, any suggestions are welcome as I can't really do anything else with my photos until I can get this resolved.
Thanks in advance for the replies/help. :)

wet, check the HP website for an updated driver for your scanner. Vista's generic drivers usually lack features. Otherwise in PSE, try using the noise reduction filters, or the blur filters and follow up with some sharpening.

  • How can I descreen and scale the target image size with a HP 8600 n911 premium?

I recently purchased an new HP 8600 n911 premium all-in-one, HP's top of the line all in one inkjet printer/scanner.  I cannot find any settings that permit me to descreen an image (such as one in a newspaper) or to adjust the size of the target image.  Is there additional software that will permit me to do this or am I missing something in the software provided by HP?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You would need software form a third party to have this option.  The free software that comes with the 8600 doesn't have an option for that. Vuescan is the only software I could find that says it works with your pritner and has a descreen option.  You have to purchase it, but it will give you more advanced options than the software that came with the printer.

  • How to descreen on a canoscan lide 100?

I have the canoscan but am not using the MP Navigator software
that came with it. I am just using the simple driver that I guess
    is with the scanner.
I see no options to descreen.
    Any ideas?
    thx
    deb

If you are using Image Capture then even if you selected the 'Show Details' button there is no Descreen setting. The only time I see Descreen with my LiDE200 is when I use MP Navigator and select to open the image with the scanner driver and then select the Advanced Mode.

  • I have reinstalled with Canons driver kit 2005b för Windows 7 64 bit. All works fine until the scann

    Hi!
After Windows update in april 2014 I cant any longer use the scanning funktion via network from Canon MF8330 Cdn multifunktion printer/fax/scanner machine! It worked fine Before the april Windows update installation.
I have reinstalled with Canons driver kit 2005b för Windows 7 64 bit. All works fine until the scanner installation ends, then system report that it cannot install the scanner and I have to try installing again. I have done that now several times but it helps not. I Think it has something to do with that the Canon scanner drivers isn´t 64 bit files, or the problem is that windows update has replaces saome dll file to a never version that not work with Canon drivers.
I have seen that there is a service pack 1 from Canon för Windows 8 and 8,1, can I use that service pack to get a never dll file for scanner or work this only for windows 8 version.
Have someone a solution to this! I have contacted the Canon support already and they say that its a Microsoft problem!
Very thanful for help in this case!
    Greetings
    Sixten
    Hi!
I am installing the drivers from Canons site. It is the newest version 2005b for Windows 7 64 bit to MF8330Cdn Canon multifunction printer/fax/scanner. Installation goes well for the printer and fax but not for scanner drivers. The error message is Could not install the scanner. In device manager is there then a unknown device under Image devices. In Device Manager I try to update drivers, but it does not help either, error message is access denied. I am logged on the system with administrator account, therfore it is strange that I get the error message access denied.
I tried earlier to do system restore back to previous time, but it did not work, error was that the system could not do the system restore because of access rights.
is there anything else I could do.
Here is the MF36SCN.inf file for scanner installation from Canon, if it can help You to go further with the problem. Is there something strange in the inf file that does not work in Windows 7 64 bit Windows, something shows that ther is also same 32 bits parts in the inf file.
    Greetings
    Sixten

How I fixed it, at least for now:
    1. I've been using OC Genie for a few days, it has been working great on Windows but I guess it was causing many games to crash to the desktop so I decided to turn it off, since then the memory issue started to happen, since this morning.
    2. I can only think of my computer got OC Genie addicted, like addiction to crack or cocaine, and the memory, or call it nervous system, wanted more OC Genie, so it gave it to him and bingo, my 4GB readable, but then I used of trickery and deceit to disable OC Genie again and my 4GB is back again without OC Genie.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Installing Windows 7 Professional 64 bit drivers för Canon MF8330 Cdn printer/fax/scanner

I have done that now several times but it
helps not.

The error message is Could
not install the scanner. In device manager is there then a unknown device under Image devices. In Device Manager I try to update drivers, but it does not help either, error message is access denied. I am logged on the system with administrator account, therfore
it is strange that I get the error message access denied.
I tried earlier to do system restore back to previous time, but it did not work, error was that the system could not do the system restore because of access rights.
is there anything else I could do.
Here is the MF36SCN.inf file for scanner installation from Canon, if it can help You to go further with the problem. Is there something strange in the inf file that does not work in Windows 7 64 bit Windows, something shows that ther is also same 32 bits
    parts in the inf file.
    Greetings
    Sixten

  • PDF displays differently in Acrobat 8 to 7 or 9?

An external supplied PDF exported from Indesign CS4 all fonts embedded was imported into Prinergy and refined. If the Prinergy  PDF is opened in Acrobat 7 or 9 it looks like the original and the Prinergy PDF is dropped onto a hotfolder and printed out on a Xerox printer with a Level 3 rip it looks fine.
If you open the PDF in Acrobat 8 one of the fonts is corrupt. We created a Scitex CT file, proofed  the Scitex CT file, the font proofs as being corrupted. Creating a Prinergy VPS shows the font as being corrupt.
Any ides on why Acrobat 8 display the PDF differently to Acrobat 7 and 9? All version of Acrobat are fully patched and we have tested on several computers.
    Regards
    Denis

The files are not secured.  Some of the files are part of a pdf portfolio, where the portfolio is a mixture of pdfs created/scanned in 8 and pdfs created/scanned in X and combined into a pdf portfolio by X.  The troubled X files are not visible in 8 as standalone files or as files inside the portfolio.  Some of the files have never been combined into a portfolio and are not visible to 8.
It does not happen to all of the scans.  Some scans done by X are visible in 8 and others are not, even though the scan settings used are the same.  Strangely, all of the files, whether visible in 8 or not, are visible in X.  The lack of visibility in 8 occurs across multiple machines using 8, not just one machine, and the same pattern occurs across multiple machines running 9.
I have examples of the files, but they contain private information.  One such file is two pages.  It is a standalone file, not a pdf portfolio.  The second page is visible in 8, but the first page is not; both pages are visible in X.  If I delete the second page (confidential information) and post the file, will the second page be visible by any means?
Additionally, the file pages are enormous to print even though they were scanned at 400 dpi, color, jpeg2000, jbig2 (lossy), deskew on, background removal off, descreen on, text sharpening, low.  The first page was 63.7 MB to print and the second page was 97.2 MB to print.  The entire file is only 1913 KB.
Do you think that I have a bad install and should just uninstall and reinstall?

  • Deskewing not working the same in version XI as it did in version 10

We have been having issues with Adobe XI and the de-skew feature.  In version 10 we could take a previously scanned PDF and go in to Tools > Documnet Processomg >Optimize Scanned PDF > make the needed changes to the Filters (Deskew:On, Background removal: Medium, Descreen: On, Text Sharpening: On) , Edit the OCR PDF output Style to "Searchable Image" and then run the optimization.  This would apply the filters and deskew the document both in the same step.  However, since version XI when we do the same thing, with the same files it will apply the filters but it will not deskew them (we have tried multiple files and multiple systems to rule out file issues and install issues).   The only way that we can get it to deskew it is to set the OCR PDF output to "Clearscan".  This would be fine except for the fact that the the clearscan setting does not apply the filters.  So...the only way we can get this to do what we need is to run the optimization once with the OCR PDF set to "Searchable Image" to apply the filters and then run it again with the OCR PDF output set to "clearscan" to deskew the document.  This is not a big deal with a single page document but becomes a larger time issue when dealing with large, multipage documents.  It appears that this is a "bug" in version XI.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish in version XI what we used to be able to do easily in Version X.
Additional information: We are running Adobe 11.0.01 on Windows 7 64 bit OS.
I have also seen LoriAUC's last post on http://forums.adobe.com/thread/992172 but those settings did not work for us either.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

OK Adobe needs to hire people who can read *and* comprehend words.
The Issue is WITH Acrobat 11
I am having the same problem - deskew does not work on Acrobat 11 on Windows 7 64 bit.
The advice: "For the time being, please use Acrobat 11 as this issue does not exists in Acrobat 11."  is inaccurate.

  • Interlacing issue when zooming in on photo in FCP

Can anyone tell me why this image (picture 1) looks interlaced in FCP's Canvas window and on my NTSC broadcast monitor when in fact it isn't?
I scanned this image at 600dpi planning to zoom in on the photo in FCP, so I know it's not a low resolution issue.
In FCP, when I zoom in on the image it looks totally interlaced:
Please see picture 1 (interlacing issue) here in my web gallery and compare with Picture 2.

I have no idea what's causing this. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    - Nicholas

    Hi David,
Thank you very much for your help. Yes, I did render the timeline. Nothing in the sequence was left unrendered. Is the problem that my resolution is too high? Should I diminish the size of the still by 50%?
Picture 1 was scanned using "descreen" filter and picture 2 using Auto Tone only. I used a Canoscan Cannon 8800F scanner. That's as much as I know. I wonder if I did something wrong scanning the image or is there something I should have done in Photoshop prior to bring the still into FCP?
Did you notice the horizontal line issue in Picture 1? I'm not sure how to describe it, but Picture 1 looks to me like there some interlacing issue going on.

  • Acrobat 11 Pro Deskew Broken in Win 7 64 bit

Tools > Documnet Processomg >Optimize Scanned PDF > make the needed changes to the Filters (Deskew:On, Background removal: Medium, Descreen: On, Text Sharpening: On)
    Everything works - except deskew.

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for replying!
Yes, the C drive does have plenty of space - it is a brand new Sony Z Series notebook with only standard win 7 components, ms office standard & sony vaio applications currently installed.
It also has only the one user account, i.e. the main one/admin (or with full admin access).

  • Acrobat X Pro - can't simply deskew PDF docs

We run Adobe Acrobat X Pro (Windows 7 32-bit PCs).  No other versions are available.
I have a PDF file created several years ago from scanned pages.  These consist of text, line drawings, and some photographs.  All pages are gray-scale.
Some of the pages are skewed by 10-15 degrees.  I want to deskew them.  I do not want to compress or process anything else.
I have read dozens of web pages on how to do this, but none seem applicable.  My main efforts have been via Tools | Document Processing | Optimize Scanned PDF.  There I uncheck "Apply Adaptive Compression" and "Make Searchable".  Under Filters I set Deskew ON and the other three (Descreen etc) OFF.
-->  When I click on OK (Optimize Scanned PDF), every page is processed - but no deskew is applied.  The document appears identical to when I started.
Further info:  If I do enable "Apply Adaptive Compression", with other settings as above, the pages ARE deskewed.  However, my images are always degraded unacceptably, regardless of the compression options I try.
--> How can I have Acrobat X Pro simply deskew the document?
It's hard to believe that such a basic function would be totally broken.  I hope that I'm missing something.
    Thanks

I purchased Acrobat Pro XI last month to try to digitize all my text books (Scanned as TIFF and imported to PDF).  I've been pretty unimpressed in general.  Specifically to your question, it seems that if a page has a photo on it or some complex image, Acrobat won't deskew it.  My version updated just today to 11.0.06 and it still has this problem.  I think it does deskew when "Apply Adaptive Compression" is selected because that option causes each page to be broken into parts (text/image).
Just incase you haven't tried, on the Optimize Scanned PDF dialoge box, make sure the slider is set to "High Quality" instead of "Small Size", that may help with the image quality.  In my tests, I ended up leaving it turned up all the way.
I have finally put together a workflow to deal with the problem.  I use Acrobat to extract each page as a TIFF to a separate directory.  I use a third party program to deskew and crop the images.  I use Acrobat to reassemble them into a PDF.  I use Text Recognition/In this File (Searchable Image Exact) to do OCR.
I am pleased with the results though Acrobat tries to OCR a lot of images and I just get a bunch of jumbled invisible text on my images.  I don't mind it though cuz it's invisible, but pretty pathetic given the cost of this product.
I'll mention the third party program I use in a post below because I don't know if I'm allowed to post it or not.  I just don't want this post to be deleted for mentioning another program.
    Hope this helps others.

  • "Acrobat 8 or 9 Pro Is Closing" on opening.

Acrobat 8 Pro on opening gives the error message "Acrobat is closing" and it closes, documents cannot be viewed, created, edited, nothing. I uninstalled 8 and installed 9 but it gives the same error message and closes when I try to open it. Windows says it's an application crash of Acrobat.exe fault module MSCVR80.dll version 8.0.50727.3053.
Eleven other applications on my computer use the same module without difficulty. When I've replaced the module with a clean copy, Acrobat still shuts down and the other applications continue to do well. I have done reinstalls, repairs, modifications, and all that the Adobe site recommends for this kind of problem without success. MSFT says this is an Adobe Acrobat problem. Adobe will not provide help except for a steep fee.
Is there anyone out there that can help me with this?

  • How can I check and change the size of photo or doc in iPhone or any other app

How can I check and change the size of photo or doc in iPhone or any other app

You would need software form a third party to have this option.  The free software that comes with the 8600 doesn't have an option for that. Vuescan is the only software I could find that says it works with your pritner and has a descreen option.  You have to purchase it, but it will give you more advanced options than the software that came with the printer.

  • Help with Photomerge and how to do suggested solutions

I am using Photoshop CS3 on Windows XP and am having a problem with Photomerge working very slow, not working at all, and not being able to handle more than 2 photos (sometimes it won't even do 2 that have 25% overlap). I found these solutions in a previous thread.
Solution 2: Increase the amount of scratch disk space available to Photomerge.
Solution 3: Decrease the size of the source files.
Solution 4: Reduce the amount of RAM allocated to Photoshop in the Memory & Image Cache Preference to approximately 40-50% and retry.
Can someone tell me if these solutions are correct? If so, how can I do these? If not, what can I try? If I could get detailed instructions (I don't know anything about computers) that would be the best. Thanks in advance for any help!

I have often scanned LP album covers in segments, at 600 ppi, and used Photomerge to meld them together. That results in images that are roughly 7200x7200 pixels, or 50 megapixels. Photomerge is pretty quick, given the size of the files.
But yeah, you may need to reduce the resolution of the files you are scanning. You may be scanning at 1200 ppi or higher. For text, I don't think I'd go much below 600 ppi if you want a really clear reproduction, and scan in grayscale or RGB, not the "text" mode, which is 1-bit bitmap and will not likely work well with Photomerge. Turn all descreening or sharpening options off in the scanning software; likewise, turn off all exposure wizards and expose all images at the base manual settings (don't use the scanner software's curves, etc.). You will take care of the exposure, sharpening, descreening, etc. in PS once you have scanned and merged.

  • Need help with scanning old photos

    Hi,
I appologize in advance for the long post, but here it goes - I am an ultra newby and have been trying to figure out the best method of scanning and retouching. I have a new Epson V330 photo scanner and currently scan in 24-bit color at 300 dpi for most photos and 600 dpi for small photos like wallet size. I leave all the adjustment options OFF (unsharp mask, descreening, color resoration, backlight correction, dust removal) as I think that stuff should be done in photoshop. I save the scans as tiff files. In the tiff options box there is a checkbox that says "embed icc profile" although I don't know what profile it is embeding.
I have recently been reading about color space and color profiles. I dug around in the setup for the epson and see that I could be scanning in 48 bid color (do I need that) and that there is a color configuration.  Currently it is set to "color control, continuous auto exposure. Display gamma: 2.2. Auto exposure level (right in the middle of low and high). The other options are ICM and no color correction.
If I click on ICM, there is a source dropdown list, but the only thing there is "Epson standard". Then there is a target dropdown and the choices sRGB, Monitor RGB, Adobe RGB, Apple RGB, and ColorMatch RGB. There is then a check box that says "display preview using monitor compensation".
If you are still reading this, what settings do you recommend I use?
    Thank you for your time.
    Brian

If you are getting satisfactory results you may not need to change.
For color, Epson will scan using its source profile.  Question is if and where best to make a conversion to other profiles such as AdobeRGB.  If you will be processing all your scans through Photoshop you can let Photoshop make this conversion to your Photoshop color working space when opening scan image file.
If you won't be making tonal adjustments in Photoshop, probably 24-bit color will be sufficient (if you're satisfied with image appearance).  Likewise for auto exposure.  But if you find that you want to adjust the black or white points or tone curve then 48-bit may give you better results.  You can change mode to 24-bit RGB in Photoshop after you've made your adjustments.
There are some functions that may better be performed closest to scanning by scan software.  Descreening is one, IME; although if you're scanning photo prints or transparencies you are not likely to need descreening.  You'll want to experiment with dust removal and sharpening to see what works best for your images.  Dust removal in particular you may find better-done by the scan software, particularly for transparencies (select Digital ICE).
Another step to try: open your scan tiff in camera raw and apply nondestructive adjustments there before opening in Photoshop -- particularly sharpening and noise reduction.

  • Converting many numbers files to PDFs?

    Hi everyone!
I would like to convert many Numbers files to PDF documents. Every Numbers document should be a new PDF with the same name!
I even tried to write a workflow file with Automator, but I dont get the "create a PDF"-part running.
Furthermore I googled for 2 hours, but all scripts I found do not work with the latest Numbers version...
Please help me... Maybe one of you have a Apple Script or a solution using Automator?
    OS X 10.9.3
    Numbers Version 3.2 (1861)

    Dear Lori,
    promptUser =false, see below.
    Does not work.
All programs that might disturbe PDF output removed from computer.
    Does not work.
I am now investing some evenings into Word-VBA, making a script loop through the subdirectories over several levels (does Acrobat do that anyway?)...
    Does not work.
    Not yet.
    It will have to...
    best regards,
