Descriptions/text instead technical names

Hi everybody,
i created a query with the query designer. i want to display the output data with the discription/full text instead of technical name. i have made the relevant adjustment in query designer but when i open the query with VC it only displays the technical names.

You have to adjusts to make in Query Designer (you did) and in Visual Composer. Usually by bringing your query to storyboard you have option of choose your field (@field, @field_ext_key, @field_key). To see text you shoul choose the first one.
Make sure that in the Display Tab of your object in Query Designer you selected 'Text'.

Infoareas show technical names only in RRMX

Hi All,
We find that in Production system, when we open Queries in RRMX, all the info areas show technical names only instead of text and technical names. Has anybody faced this before and if so how is this corrected? This does not happen in Dev and Quality systems.

there is a button like screw driver present on the top right side pop window which open when you select the info area.Click that button & then it will show your desired description.

Field description in chart legend instead of technical name (BW query)?

I am building a report from a BW query. The report has a grouping field and a bar chart in the group footer. When I execute the report the legend shows the technical name of the key figures even though I checked the "Show description" field in the "options".
I can change the labels in "preview" mode (provided I can guess the real names), but just like in the field explorer I would prefer to always have the text instead of the nonsense technical name.
Is this possible?

hello all,
you can use a 2 chart workaround for this.
1) the first chart is the Group chart you already have...just disable the legend
2) now create an Advanced chart using the description field as the On Change Of
3) set the Order of chart to correspond with the technical field that the group is based on
4) preview the chart and right click on the x axis area and format the axis so nothing is showing
5) do the same for the y axis
6) keep right clicking on all of the chart objects and changing them to transparent
sounds annoying, is annoying, but it works.

Query Displaying Technical Name instead of Description

Hello,
Is there a setting in query designer that would cause the query technical name to display when the query is executed instead of the query description? I am using BEx 3.5. When I Save As the query to a different technical name and execute the description shows. I would like the description to show as it does with all other queries.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tina,
For me the most convienent way is to create a text variable with customer exit, not ready for input.
Assign this variable to Query description in properties of query. So you can be sure to see the current
technical name after saving the query again, without any additonal actions.
You could even combine this variable with any description desired.
Assuming variable created is Z_COMPID, please add code as follows to user exit:
WHEN 'Z_COMPID'.
      L_S_RANGE-LOW = I_S_RKB1D-COMPID.
      L_S_RANGE-SIGN     = 'I'.
      L_S_RANGE-OPT      = 'EQ'.
      APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.

In the info cube insted of description need to display technical name

Use T code : LISTCUBE
you get 2 text boxes, Object type : CUBE
Data Target : cube name
Check the option - Technical names. F8
You get all the technical names in the place of descriptions,

Display description of report rather than the technical name

Hi all
I have made a few reports using the Bex report designer that have been emailed to end users by the bex broadcast facility as a PDF
However, when end users receive the email the attached PDF received has the technical name rather than the description.
Does anyone know how to change this so that end users receive the PDF with the description rather than the technical name.

Yes the DOS 8.3 shortname format is the only accepted for the ThinkVantage button registry key.
One general way to obtain DOS 8.3 formats from a path except from DIR /x in a CMD window is to use execute a VBSCRIPT file that uses the FileSystemObject class
If you save the following sample vbscript code to a text file with .vbs extension and open it in file explorer it will write the short path of LSC.exe to a file text file named "Path_DOS83.txt":

In the filter the value of text variable is not shown, only technical name.

We have some odd behavior of text variables in the filter screen of key-figures.
After entering values in the variable screen, the report is executed.
Within the report all text variables are filled, with the values entered in the variable screen.
I say all, because we use both sap standard variables &0T_FPER& as customer specific &ZFSCYR&.
When i want to change the key figures showned, i press the filter icon for key-figures (BW 3.5)
In the list shown: existing filtervalues, the textvariables of SAP standard are filled with the value entered in the variable screen. However the customer specific is shown with the technical name (&ZFSCYR&) and not the value.
Has anyone experience with this behavior or even better a solution to prevent this?

Hi Rene,
If ur custom text variable is not getting populated then you need to check out the code that u have written in there in CMOD for this and ofcourse if ur using this text variable after report execution then it will definately be in i_step 2.
So best way is to debug your code and check that using code RSRT.

I take it these are iMessages contacts ?
Are you using iCloud to Sync your Contacts apps info ?
In Messages > Preferences > Accounts > Details Button (You will need to sign in again) do you have the correct Country/Region set ?
This can effect the adding of the correct Country Code prefix to your own number and distort the coming form the Contacts app if the number there don't include a Country Code.

Brand new 5s- sometimes phone numbers display when receiving calls and texts instead of contact name.

Brand new 5s- sometimes phone numbers display when receiving calls and texts instead of contact name. Hard to know who is calling/texting! A few times I've tapped on the text message icon and I can actually watch as the conversations turn from showing just numbers to the contact names. Same thing when looking at call history and voice mail- sometimes it shows numbers and then I'll go back and the contacts will be back. So frustrating!

Two Technical Names with same Description in BW

Hi Experts,
Currently I am facing Problem in SAP BPC NW 7.5 one of Applications ( Profit And Loss Appl)
At Backend ( BW) I could observe that for P&L application 2 diff technical names with same description "PROFIT AND LOSS". We were not sure who created the other one. Prior to that there was no problem while fetching the data.
Before creation of 2nd Info Cube in BW, I was able to retrieve the values ( Transfer values from Fixed Cost & Revenue Forecast). However, after cretion of 2nd cube unable to see my data in PL reports.
Before deleting 2nd Cube in BW, I could see the data in backend in old Cube, but unable to retrieve data in BPC excel report.
Once I deleted the new PL infocube in BW where there was no data in that cube, still I was not able to retrieve the data in my old cube.
Request you to help me....

If Appset transport happend twice, all applications should have come in BW. But in this case only PROFIT AND LOSS has got 2 diff tech names.

Yes, both the cubes in Infoarea ( QA system) and we have not faced earlier this problem either in any other environments ( DEV or PROD).
Will DEV system appset transport will help to resolve this issue in QA since DEV & QA has same structure?

Ravi,
You cant change the Technical name of the cube but you can change the description of the Cube. If you want to have a Cube with the same properties and with different Techname and Description better you do copy from the base cube and rename as per your requirement.

Technical names and short text

I know there is a posibility to display technical names beside short text name when selecting content from a drop-down box. For example, when i want to select a material type in transaction MM01 I want it to show me both, technical name and short text of each material type. I know each user has to have this option activated somewhere but dont know where. Do anyone of you know? Thanks

Click the "Customizing of local layout" icon on the main application toolbar. It is the icon all the way to the right. Choose "Options". Choose the "Expert" Tab. Click the checkbox for "Show Keys in all dropdown lists".

Need Attribute Text instead of public name in Siebel

Is it possible in OPA to send across attribute text instead of public name / attributeName in the "SaveSession" inbound interface to Siebel application?

Unforunately SaveSession only saves the attributes and their values. The text of an attribute cannot be saved.
If you really need the attribute text, you would probably have to use some custom code to do the following:
1. Create a text attribute (a2) that will hold the text of the attribute you want the text for (a1):
2. Create a event handler that sets the value of the text attribute (a2) to the text of the attribute (a1).
3. When save is called the text attribute (a2) will be saved to the session.
Its no a very elegant solution, but its the only way I can think of to do it.

Hi I have couple of questions with Query name changing.
1)Is it possible to change the Technical name of a query?
If Yes how?
2)I could change the description of a query but when the same query is saved in a role how to change its description?

hi,
open your query in query designer and use button 'save as' then you can change name description.
Remember that when you change technical name it will be completely new query and you will have to add it to your role.

Map variant technical name to text name

Hello Community,
In SE38, variants for each program have text based names.
In the STEP overview of SM37, and also in table TBTCP, the variant name (or "the parameter") is a technical name. For example: &0000000065119
How does one map the technical name of a variant to the text name for that variant ?
Even better: since I already have the technical names --> in which table does SAP store the values of the variant together with this technical name ?
Ultimately, I am searching for the values, based on the tech name (e.g. &0000000065119)
