worst of all is that this board comes from a used sell so : i have absolutely no idea
about the msi model corresponding to this oem (ms-6786 ver 2 is said unknown everywhere
on msi site)
if somebody would heelp about this...

Looking for a Good White Paper on Oracle Data Modeling

Hopefully this is the proper area in which to ask this questions - been looking around these boards for a while but can't find what I'm looking for. I'd like to get a good modeling overview for topics such as:
-- pros and cons of normalization, e.g., performance considerations when deciding to normalize some data (and incur the cost of joins) vs keeping it denormalized (and having simpler queries)
-- overall performance considerations
-- warehouse vs mart considerations, esp as they relate to front end tools that will sit on the data mart
A general data modeling white paper or PDF would be very helpful to get me started.

Normalization isn't about pros and cons. For performance denormalize. For data integrity normalize. Most systems end up somewhere between 3N and 4N or with what is referred to as Boyce-Codd NF. Google is your friend here but buy the book or take the course. This is not a subject to be read lightly in a dozen or so pages.

Looking for a stable 4.8 ghz (4770k/MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming) BIOS tips?

Yeah I know. It's a lot of volts. But other than deliding it, which I will do soon, I'm looking for any BIOS tips on decreasing the voltage and keeping it from getting the BSOD after an hour of gaming and general use. This whole platform is new to me since my last OC'ing experience was with socket 775/X38.
One approach I was thinking to take is using Aida64's stress test by individually stressing the cpu, cache and memory seperately since all the controllers are individual entities now. That way if the cache is crashing from lack of voltage maybe I can come down on the vcore, or maybe turn off XMP and run at 1333mhz, etc.. If you guys have any BIOS tips I would appreciate the help. Yeah I can do 4.5/1.26 all day long but what fun is that? Thanks!

Looking for LM2917N 14-pin frequency to voltage converter model for MultiSim

I am designing a circuit in MultiSim and I am utilizing a LM2917N 14-pin frequency to voltage converter as part of the circuit. Unfortunately MultiSim does not seem to have any frequency to voltage converters in (as far as I can tell). I was wondering if anyone had a model of this component. A simple footprint is easy to make, however, the simulation file(s) are much more complicated and I do not have to know how to do this. Please let me know if you have such a model.

I have not been able to find a model of this anywhere. In my Version 10 there is a part called LTC1966CSM8 that says it it is a RMS to DC converter. The datasheet for this indicates that it is only good for 50hz to 1Khz so I don't know if this would help any depending on the frequency your working with. I don't even know if your version has this chip or not. You can look to see if you have it and whether or not it would be suitable for your apllication. You will find it in the Database under ANALOG>OPAMP if you have it.
Other than this, you are left with the only option of creating your own and I don't know how that could be accomplished with the information contained in the datasheet. The charge pump would be problematic without more detail about it's internal construction. The rest would be relatively easy with ideal components.
I am sorry this doesn't help much, but it is all I have for now.

Looking for Java Reference Manual, Not User Manual

I'm a mainframe programmer learning Java. I'm going thru "The Complete Reference Java" by Schildt. In the mainframe world, manuals are usually broken into reference manuals (shows just the syntax) and user manuals (shows how to do things). I'm looking for a pure Java reference manual that strips away all of the verbose explanation of how to do things and just lists in an organized way the pure syntax of Java. Does anyone know of such a manual? Everything I've found so far falls more into the user manual category that perhaps contains the syntax somewhere (if you look for it), but is overburdened with tons of explanations. Thanks.

Thanks. What you provided is a bit like a reference manual and user manual combined into one. It has the complete syntax along with plenty of explanations. BTW, I think I know where Schildt got most of his material for his Complete Java Reference book. It's almost like he took the Java Language Specification book and reorganized it into a tutorial format.

Software Update not looking for updates

I have software update enabled to check daily for any updates, I logged in yesterday and today, knowing that updates were available, however my iMac did not seem to be looking for any updates. I manually checked and updates were available on both days. Is this an OS X problem, or does it take a while for OS X to check for updates once logged in.. The only change that has occurred in the past week has been a 50% speed reduction in my broadband service. Current speed around 2.5MB.

I just got my MacBook Pro and ran Software Update first thing. It said I was all up to date. I then downloaded iWork '08. When I tried to install iWork it said I needed OS X 10.4.10. I checked my about mac and sure enough I am running 10.4.9. My Quicktime is also 7.1.5. Why would software update tell me I'm all up to date if I have this older software on my computer. This thing has only been out of the box a few hours and I have installed exactly nothing on it. Anyone have any ideas?

Looking for a reference manual that actually describes in detail all attributes for a command

I am using CS5. I am teaching myself Photoshop using their book, "Classroom in a book".
Thought the lessons, they will suggest specific setting for command attributes without describing exacting what these values mean.. For example, on page 88 they give the student specific settings for the Refine Edge dialog bog under the Quick Selection tool. They say, "To prepare the edge for a drop shadow, set Smooth to 24, Feather to 0.5, Contrast to 12, and Shift Edge to -21". Note: I am calling things like Smooth, Feather, Contrast, etc command attributes.
My question is not about this specific example, but all these attribute values for all the commands. For example, what does Shift Edge really do when negative or positive. My question is: does a reference, either a book, pdf, or a non-Adobe product (probably a book) exist that actually explains when each attribute actually does for every command? Basically looking for a boring detailed reference guide so when I am using a specific command, I can read about the attributes for the specific command and understand what the values really mean and not guess my trial and error.

To the top
Altitude For the Bevel and Emboss effect, sets the height of the light source. A setting of 0 is equivalent to ground level, 90 is directly above the layer. Angle Determines the lighting angle at which the effect is applied to the layer. You can drag in the document window to adjust the angle of a Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, or Satin effect.
Anti-alias Blends the edge pixels of a contour or gloss contour. This option is most useful on small shadows with complicated contours. Blend Mode Determines how the layer style blends with the underlying layers, which may or may not include the active layer. For example, an inner shadow blends with the active layer because the effect is drawn on top of that layer, but a drop shadow blends only with the layers beneath the active layer. With gradient-filled glows, Contour allows you to create variations in the repetition of the gradient color and opacity. In beveling and embossing, Contour allows you to sculpt the ridges, valleys, and bumps that are shaded in the embossing process. With shadows, Contour allows you to specify the fade. For more information, see Modify layer effects with contours. Distance Specifies the offset distance for a shadow or satin effect. You can drag in the document window to adjust the offset distance. Depth Specifies the depth of a bevel. It also specifies the depth of a pattern. Use Global Light This setting allows you to set one “master” lighting angle that is then available in all the layer effects that use shading: Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, and Bevel and Emboss. In any of these effects, if Use Global Light is selected and you set a lighting angle, that angle becomes the global lighting angle. Any other effect that has Use Global Light selected automatically inherits the same angle setting. If Use Global Light is deselected, the lighting angle you set is “local” and applies only to that effect. You can also set the global lighting angle by choosing Layer Style > Global Light. Gloss Contour Creates a glossy, metallic appearance. Gloss Contour is applied after shading a bevel or emboss. Gradient Specifies the gradient of a layer effect. Click the gradient to display the Gradient Editor, or click the inverted arrow and choose a gradient from the pop-up panel. You can edit a gradient or create a new gradient using the Gradient Editor. You can edit the color or opacity in the Gradient Overlay panel the same way you edit them in the Gradient Editor. For some effects, you can specify additional gradient options. Reverse flips the orientation of the gradient, Align With Layer uses the bounding box of the layer to calculate the gradient fill, and Scale scales the application of the gradient. You can also move the center of the gradient by clicking and dragging in the image window. Style specifies the shape of the gradient. Highlight or Shadow Mode Specifies the blending mode of a bevel or emboss highlight or shadow. Jitter Varies the application of a gradient’s color and opacity. Layer Knocks Out Drop Shadow Controls the drop shadow’s visibility in a semitransparent layer. Noise Specifies the number of random elements in the opacity of a glow or shadow. Enter a value or drag the slider. Opacity Sets the opacity of the layer effect. Enter a value or drag the slider. Pattern Specifies the pattern of a layer effect. Click the pop-up panel and choose a pattern. Click the New Preset button to create a new preset pattern based on the current settings. Click Snap To Origin to make the origin of the pattern the same as the origin of the document (when Link With Layer is selected), or to place the origin at the upper-left corner of the layer (if Link With Layer is deselected). Select Link With Layer if you want the pattern to move along with the layer as the layer moves. Drag the Scale slider or enter a value to specify the size of the pattern. Drag a pattern to position it in the layer; reset the position by using the Snap To Origin button. The Pattern option is not available if no patterns are loaded. Position Specifies the position of a stroke effect as Outside, Inside, or Center. Range Controls which portion or range of the glow is targeted for the contour. Size Specifies the radius and size of blur or the size of the shadow. Soften Blurs the results of shading to reduce unwanted artifacts. Source Specifies the source for an inner glow. Choose Center to apply a glow that emanates from the center of the layer’s content, or Edge toapply a glow that emanates from the inside edges of the layer’s content. Spread Expands the boundaries of the matte prior to blurring.
Style Specifies the style of a bevel: Inner Bevel creates a bevel on the inside edges of the layer contents; Outer Bevel creates a bevel on the outside edges of the layer contents; Emboss simulates the effect of embossing the layer contents against the underlying layers; Pillow Emboss simulates the effect of stamping the edges of the layer contents into the underlying layers; and Stroke Emboss confines embossing to the boundaries of a stroke effect applied to the layer. (The Stroke Emboss effect is not visible if no stroke is applied to the layer.)
Technique Smooth, Chisel Hard, and Chisel Soft are available for bevel and emboss effects; Softer and Precise apply to Inner Glow and Outer Glow effects.
Smooth Blurs the edges of a matte slightly and is useful for all types of mattes, whether their edges are soft or hard. It does not preserve detailed features at larger sizes. Chisel Hard Uses a distance measurement technique and is primarily useful on hard-edged mattes from anti-aliased shapes such as type. It preserves detailed features better than the Smooth technique.
Chisel Soft Uses a modified distance measurement technique and, although not as accurate as Chisel Hard, is more useful on a larger range of mattes. It preserves features better than the Smooth technique. Softer Applies a blur and is useful on all types of mattes, whether their edges are soft or hard. At larger sizes, Softer does not preserve detailed features.
Precise Uses a distance measurement technique to create a glow and is primarily useful on hard-edged mattes from anti-aliased shapes
such as type. It preserves features better than the Softer technique. Texture Applies a texture. Use Scale to scale the size of the texture. Select Link With Layer if you want the texture to move along with the layer as the layer moves. Invert inverts the texture. Depth varies the degree and direction (up/down) to which the texturing is applied. Snap To Origin makes the origin of the pattern the same as the origin of the document (if Link With Layer is deselected) or places the origin in the upper-left corner of the layer (if Link With Layer is selected). Drag the texture to position it in the layer.

Well the last time I visited this forum was when I was looking for the CS4 manuals. I wonder why Adobe stopped putting the manuals on the disk set. But I don't care where they put them as long as they can be found. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

HT204135 what do you do if apple responds that the driver is unavailable. The problem is even if you have manually uploaded the drivers from the epson website, apple seems to need to look for them and if it doesn't work then you are stuck

I am trying to install an epson bx635fwd.
Connecting to the printer is fine and using the usb cable and network seems to work OK. The problem comes when I try and find the printer.
It pops up as a nearby printer but apple tries to look for the softwars on its own website. It then tells me this is unavailable.
I go to the epson website and upload the latest drivers.
When I try again, in system preferences, the same thing happens and I get a message that the software is unavailable from the apple website....etc..etc.
I am using 10.7 on a 24 inch imac, fully updated.

When you select to add the printer, don't select the entry shown under Nearby Printers. Instead, select Add Printer or Scanner and from the new window that appears, select the Epson. If the Print Using menu does not change to the already installed driver and the search window appears, sometimes you have the option to skip this search and manually add the printer via the Print Using menu. If you are not given this option then trash the contents of the Epson folder in HD > Library > Printers. Then unplug the printers USB cable and reconnect. This should prompt the Mac to add the printer automatically and go looking for the driver which is available from Apple.
