Design Infocubes?

What are roles and responsibilities of data arichitect. What approach you will take while Tech Architecture, Project Management, Business Processes, Deployment in SAP BI?
Sridhar

Hi
The Data Architect is the single point of responsibility for the development and maintenance of the data architecture.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Data Architect are to:
·          define the 1;1;xref;popup;0;18264;textdata architecture,
·          resolve issues related to the data architecture,
·          coach the Data Analyst team in the development of the data architecture.
Key Role Interactions
The Data Architect has key interactions with the following roles.  These interactions are guidelines only and do not reflect all possible project organizations.
·          Technical Architect.  Helps determine how technology can be applied to meet the data architecture requirements.
·          Project Manager.  Raises scope issues for resolution.
·          Application Architect.  Reviews data requirements, structure, and distribution.
·          Network Specialist.  Helps formulate a communications design based on the data structure and distribution requirements.
·          Application Engineers.  Provide coaching in the development of the data architecture.
·          Customer Representatives.  Gather information and reviews data organization and relationships to gain feedback.
Each team member requires a combination of professional skills and interpersonal skills, depending on the specific role assignment on a project.
Professional Skills
Ability to:
·          perform the activities and tasks for which this role is responsible,
·          apply the techniques necessary to complete the responsibilities of this role,
·          use the tools required by these activities, tasks and techniques.
Experience:
·          on a number of projects in all stages of the development life cycle,
·          specializing in data modeling on a number of projects,
·          in the application area on at least one other project or work assignment,
·          in uncovering requirements, conceptualizing solutions, and developing a framework for implementation of systems on at least one other project or work assignment.
Interpersonal Skills
All team members require a high level of:
            personal attributes,
            general business skills.
As well, the architect role requires a high degree of leadership skills.  The required level of proficiency increases as one progresses to more senior roles.  For more junior team members, these kinds of skills are required to move into leadership positions.

  • What is best method for designing InfoCube?

    Hi BW Guru`s,
I have some doubts on InfoCube designing.
I have a scenario like,  I have 25 Characteristics ( Customer, Sales Org, Brand, Material, Material Group etc..) and 10 keyfigures (Sales, Revenue, Amount,etc..). By using these objects how to design the Infocube. But I know the normal design process. Does any body tell me best design method of Infocube and it should not effect any kind of performance issues ( load performance and Query performance).
    good points will assiagn.

As you dont have much charecteristics and key figures to design your cube, create Dimensions for CUSTOMER, SALES DATA, MATERIAL, BRAND etc. and put the logically related charecteristics into the dimensions.
For example: Customer Dimension( Customer ID, Customer name, customer Address etc.)
try to create the smaller Dimensions for performance reasons.

  • Precautions to be taken before design infocube

    hi
what precautions shuld be taken before designing an infocube?

    Yes Arun You are right
But you can check with small amount of data also even in Develpoment. It will give you a rough estimate.
basically that transaction gives you the ratio of all the tables with respect to all the
data in the Cube it doesn't depend on how much data it contains.
So if the ratio of the table exceeds the limit ( I think it's 15 to 20 %) those dimension will show you up in red and you do not need to check it in production and you can check it with small amount of data.
Line items are defenately need to be taken care of and that depends upon the granularity of that particular object in the source system.
    Thanks

  • Attributes while we design infocube

    Hi Experts,
when we design an IC we add charateristics to it. Is it good practice to add just an attribue as an characteristic ignoring the masterdata.
Say for expamle i want to query on an infocube which has just material color and not material master assigned to it..so when i query on this infocube, can i get the values for that field in the query..
    Thanks

    Hi,
We are not really giving all histrorical changes by taking the attribute in the Dimension itself. So I can say this partial Histrical changes are meaning less.
Assume that the company has 4 years of data, and assume we are starting BW implementation today. So We cannot give all histrorical changes of this attribute which were occured in the past to today. Only we can give istrorical changes of this attribute which will occur in the comming future from today.

    Thanks Suresh.
My project plan is to build Infocubes & queries which will be then used to build Universe upon it. Thus I am looking for do's & dont's while designing infocubes & queries such that there wont be any issues(performance or other) when accessed by Universe built on it.
Hope I have made it more clear now.

When opening BW infocubes from crystal reports we have problem:
In se37 ; we executed BAPI function BAPI_MDPROVIDER_GET_CUBES
              - put in as the CATALOG $INFOCUBE.
when we did the above steps. i got this message "201No InfoProvider exists with name "YN_SUBFAM". adn there are around 350 entries.
But infocubes are not visible in $INFOCUBE Folder in the crystal reports. Is it bug? how can we resolve this issue. all infocube are active in rsa1.

  • Design of infocube

    Hi Experts
    Good Day!
when i try to execute the query it taking lot of time and this query there no complex query also .i followed these are steps   to improve the performance still not good . but my cube is contain almost 6 crore records
    1, i created aggregats
2,every day we are deleting the indexes and creating the indexes .
3.when i try to partioing its giving error message the properties 0FISCVARNT should be constant .when i try change the properties it is disabled.can you please tell me how to enable this properties
actually the data is coming from the ODS . i plan split diffent years of data like 2006,2007,2008.after that i plan create infocubes each year and finally execute the queries on multicueb for underlying each year of infocube data.is it good design or i need change design parameter.can you please guide me on this issues
    regards
    RK

    Hi Rama,
Check if u are using the proper steps in the paritioning based on Fiscal Period:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/0a/cd6e3a30aac013e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
Partitioning infocube with multiple fiscal variants
To partition the cube double click the cube this will take you to the definition of the cube. Click on the extras button at the top of the screen. you will get a dropdown, there you can see Partition option, click on that you will get another window there you all time chars select on which you want to partition and continue.
you will get another popup window there you have to give Range.
When you activate the cube fact tble will be created in DB with number of partitions corresponding to your Range.
While you do this there should be no data in the cube.
    Thanks

  • How To Make Infocube Visible in Query Designer?

    hello,
i'm using BIW 3.10, i've just created infocube and succesfully populated it with data. I went through all the process from datasource (from R/3 masterdata), infosource, infoobjects and so on, until i get to browse the content of the infocube using the "Manage Data Targets" screen of rsa1->modeling->InfoProvider->Manage. Now my problem is how do i make the infocube visible in the Query Designer?
    thanks,
    sid

    hi sid,
you have open bex analyzer, and click 'query', in next screen 'sap bex : select query', click 'new' (icon blank page), and click 'infoarea' in left side, you will see the infocube under your infoarea. hope this helps.
for new infocube, when there is no query created from this infocube, the infocube will invisible, since the screen is to select existing queries.

  • Cant see the infocube in the Query Designer

    Hi,
I am working with 0FI_GL_1 datasource. Activated the respective business content in BW and loaded the data into 0FIGL_C01 infocube.
when I go to query designer to create a query, I dont see this infocube. Is this permission (security) issue? Or Do i need to anythingelse?
    Thanks a lot
    Sri

    Hi Sri
after clicking on new(blank page icon) to create new query, if ur not able to see ur cube, just click on binaculor icon i.e to to find and type ur cube tech. name and search, then u can find ur cube.
    Hope it helps..........let me know

  • InfoCube design - high granularity by inclusion of document level detail

When considering the inclusion of sales document level detail in an infocube (0DOC_NUMBER/0S_ORD_ITEM), two possible high-level designs come to mind:
    1. Make sales document number/sales order item master data carrying infoobjects and include in infocube as line item dimensions. Activate all necessary characteristic navigational attributes for reporting.
    2. Model infocube dimensions to contain all necessary charactistics for reporting with inclusion of characteristics sales document number/sales order item therefore, fact table will have highest level of granularity.
Knowing the 'textbook' does not suggest the above designs, has anyone attempted maximum granularity in infocube design with success or otherwise? If successful, has this design outperformed DSO or InfoSet reporting performance?
    Thank you - Brendan.

    Hi Brendan,
we have implemented both solutions; it all depends on the number of documents. if it is much more than 1 mio; I recommend storing your data in the target; if it is 1 or 2 mio you can have master data (more flexible).
We have some 4 mio records in 0MAT_PLANT and are starting having performance issues.
by the way; if you are using ORACLE, NEVER mark a dimension with high cardinality; that doesn't work.
    hope that helps
    Olivier.

  • Infocube Design question

    Hi, experts
We have two infocube and we need to know which is best option for customer. First infocube was designed with eleven (11) characteristics and three (3) key figures, the other one with four (4) characteristics and forty-three (43) key figures. Both infocube upload data from the same source correctly, but we need to know wich design is best for performing?
    Regards
    Tokio
    P.D. Points rewards

    Tokio,
Without knowing the characteristics and key figures is a bit complicated to tell.
But, i guess that if you use first option, you'll need to create calculated and restricted key figures in the queries.
In the second case, i guess you make those calculations and restrictions in the data loading (transformation or rules). Then, in the queries you just include the KF.
so, based on this, you have:
For loading process cube 1 is faster than cube 2.
For reporting, cube 2 is faster than cube 1.
Also, cube 1 will be more flexible to KF definition changes, since the data is stored as it's generated in the source system, you only need to change the query. This can also be aplied to older data. In cube 2, you need to modify the transformations (or rules) and then reload if you want to update older data.
The best option depends on data volume and the query performance that you need.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Diego
