Design view, Bkg is missing..help
My web site pages look fine online. But, when I look at them
in DW CS3(local view) they are missing the Background styles. The
CSS says they are there and they are in my images folder but I
can't see them in design view. I could see them yesterday. And when
I upload the pages to the server they look fine online. Also, My
co-worker who is using DW8 can see them. He even uploaded a page
and then I downloaded it to my local and I still can't see the Bkg.
images...HELP

You have probably turned off the display of styles by
accident. Go to
View > Style Rendering, and check that Screen Media Type
and Display
Styles are both selected.

if this is from a brand new project that isn't migrated from a previous version then deleting the JDveloper system directory (or renaming it) will do after a re-start

If I remove that extra </td> then your Design view becomes visible. There are at least two other problems on this page -
There is no doctype - thus, the page will be rendered by all browsers in QUIRKS mode. That's a bad thing. You should use an HTML 4.01 Transitoinal doctype on this and other pages.
There is an improperly nested <font> tag here -

I'd fix all of these if I were you.
The page also contains PHP scripting that is connecting to an online database, and extracting information that is used to populate the <select> tag in the projects form. You will not see that tag populated with options in Design view. To see it, you would need to have Apache and PHP installed, and have a testing server defined for this site. Even then, you would only see that tag populated in Live view or on Preview, not in Design view. -

Designe veiw means you are not getting layout??
First cehck this.. Goto the layout tab of the view. u will see an option of '.Show/Hide Layout Preview'.
Still not getting, your sys not configured properly.. Check FQDN

Image missing from design view
Hi. In DW CS4 on XP.
I have an image that is missing in my design view from DW. It shows up in the live view, but when I select it I cannot get the option to change the image.
I do not want to change the image in the code. It is not loading my new picture under the same filename for some reason.
I have all the visual aids shown except the first 2 listed: CSS layout backgrounds & box models.
I tired selecting all over the table this page is designed in. I cannot seem to select that picture missing. Right now it is a missing link & usually I am able to click the missing link box. I even tried opening it up in DW 8, but I am not even able to select the box, but at least I see it.
Please help if you can.
Thanks.I would have said "Try renaming the folder containing the images in Rh's Project Manager. That sometimes fixes the problem. You can revert to the old name afterwards."
Keeping all the images, and / or topics, in the root is never a good idea. It can slow things down and it's messy.
You can move the images you can see but obviously you cannot move the others. Try moving a topic that has one of the images to a different folder and see if that refreshes. Also try deleting the CPD file and reopening Rh.
Backup first.

Hello,
I am hoping to get some advice fixing the following DW
problem:
In WYSIWYG mode I can’t view any images while trying to
modify a .ASP page. I can see the code via code view. But
can’t see anything in the design view on my default.asp page.
I can see other pages correctly, with the exception of the
header include.
I seem to have had this issue in the past, like maybe with
Dreamweaver 3. I forgot what my settings fix was.
I have double checked with my work mates Dreamweaver CS2
settings. And we matchup perfectly with the exception that his
works and mine does not.
Help, I am running out of hair to pull out.
Thanks!We operate off of a network drive so we can all see the same
files. We use checkout to keep from over writing each other. We
then have a staging server that we upload the files to to test.
Then we can deploy to a our live servers.
All of the code base has worked with no issues since 2000.
This includes our use of includes and our folder paths.
The only thing that is different is that I wiped the computer
I am currently using, which up until a week ago was using DW8, did
a clean install of the windows package, installed my licensed copy
of CS3 design studio, and completed all of the Adobe updates up
until yesterday.
We are using links relative to document. I have tried setting
it to site root, but that had no effect.
I have been using and setting up multiple .asp websites using
Dreamweaver since v3/UltraDev. I have also got a licensed copy of
CS3 on my notebook computer and do not have these issues.
I am thinking that I should un-install and do a clean
reinstall and see what that does.
There are some threads around the internet that my buddy
found that said to turn on DW8 then turn on DW9, it may take a few
times, but they got it to display the bits I am missing. I think
this is kinda cheesy, but I guess if it works...

I have two sites up and running ... www.latheart.com and ... svwoodturners.org. Both are ok. This past weekl I installed chrome !@#$%^! didnot like it so I uninstalled it !@#$%^&! What a mess that caused. Some of the reg files had to be rewritten in the regesters also my photos also do not open automatically any more. The fonts were changed in almost everything. I think I have fixed most everything and then I found this problem with DW5. I do not know it that is related or how the htmls could even be affected. But both of my sites have the same issue. Centre not working in Dreamweaver Design View (CSS+HTML)- Preview OK- help!

I am having a slight problem with DW which I have had before, and fixed, but I cant for the life of me remember how I fixed it. So any help is much appreciated.
I am producing a proof site for a client and cannot load it to be live just yet so sorry for any inconvience but I have taken some screen shots and will paste code/html.
The site is currently sitting like this in the design view of DW

Can you say what that's doing? "float" is not a legal value for the leftmargin style, which requires an integer value. But its use is deprecated in favor of CSS anyhow.
Your pasted code is lacking a doctype or anything that would normally be above that stylesheet link. Is that just an oversight or is it really not there? -
Design View not displaying external files...HELP!
This is my second attempt asking for anybody's help. I'm using Dreamweaver 8.0.2 (OS X 10.4.11) and when I open "any" of my local files In "Design View" NO external files loads. Here's what I've done so far to no avail:
Delete "site cache"
Delete all pref files
Made sure "Display External Files" is check
Made sure "Style Rendering --> Display Files" is check (using screen media type)
Check that my firewall is disabled
Renamed local root DIR of site file
Searched the web, forums, etc...none of the answers worked
Reinstalled DW 8.....TWICE!
2 weeks ago I did updates to my website and everything was just fine. And now, nothing is working. All I can see is text and all of DIV blocks...but all external CSS and INC files fails to load. Been trying to fix this for 2 days now. Can anyone "please" give me some ideas to fix this problem.Hi - without seeing the actual page code, I'll take a stab that possibly you've lost the link to your stylesheets...?
If you view the code, somewhere inside the "head" tags (generally right under the "Title", you should have a reference to any of your external stylesheets/images, etc.) Something like this:
<link href="name_of_stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
If no images are showing up as well, my guess is that you've moved the page (or the images and stylesheet) into a different folder/or subfolder without updating the links. Any time you move a file, it should be done within dreamweaver (and it will always ask if you want to update links). If you move a file without using DW, it will definitely break all links, and no amount of re-installing, re-caching, etc. will fix it (sorry)...
If this is the case, the best way to rectify would be to move the file back to where you had it... if this isn't the reason for the broken links, you'll need to manually re-update all of the links because something else has broken the linkage... (sorry again...)

Help...how do I reset "Designer View" to what shipped with product. I was using a tutorial and totally messed up the designer default view, and cannot restore it by going to workspace "Designer View" reset...it just resets it to the same corrupted view. I seem to be stuck in live mode with no buttons to come out of live mode.
While in the Designer space, have you tried choosing Windows > Workspace Layouts > Reset 'Designer' ? If that doesn't work, you may have accidentally overwritten the default Designer workspace with the one you see now. If that's the case, one (pretty drastic) alternative is to reinstall. Another less drastic approach, is to replace the Designer.xml in your user Configuration > Workspace folder with the one I've attached.
Let me know if you need help finding your user Configuration folder.

When editing fluid layouts, I lose the design view option.. This makes it much harder for me to do ANYTHING, because I do not have a lot of code experience.would these work?

in cs5, it was webkit. I tried to upgrade mine, but I have something else broken and design view still doesn't work.
I modified MMDocumentTypes*.xml and now it errors
"The Document Type "SHTML" will not be added because it uses a file extension that is already associated with a prior Document Type. [OK]"
I can't figure out what causes this. I only remember changing the <html> to <html lang='en'> in the SHTML related template files.

Help: Design view is black while live view is visible...

I can't seem to figure this one out - >
I've been working on a file (attached) for my small business, and when I switch to "live" view, the document can be seen, but when I go to design view, I get a black screen (so I can not edit it). The data has definitely not been erased - its all there in the code and in the live view, but I'm not a good enough coder to make all the change I need via code only. Can anyone help?? I really need to finish this and don't want to start over, and I'm afraid if I do I might do this again...Thanks so much for your help!

Usually, as you surmise, it will be a minor code glitch that renders the whole page fragile (or black...).

Design view is locked in Dreamweaver! please help!
On Dreamweaver, after i save my website and close dreamweaver like at the end of the day, after i open it again it wont let me go into design view. And as far as i can see the coding is gone. How can i fix this? Am i doing something wrong when i save it? Please help!Design view
You also do not have a site selected in your Files window. That is an extremely important step in DW.
If you haven't defined a site, and/or aren't working from a defined site, you'll run into all kinds of problems with Dreamweaver. You'll notice in your screen shot, you have a Files window in the bottom right. The dropdown in that window (currently showing Desktop) needs to have a site selected. If you haven't defined a site yet, follow the instructions here...

Design View only showing 4 tables... help

I have been working on a website for about three months now, it is a huge site and all was well until for some reason today a bunch of my pages wont show in design view. Nothing but 4 tables show up. Not even my fireworks files. It previews fine still but does anyone know how to fix this or why it is happening?

Most likely caused by code errors. Imbalanced or orphaned html tags can make things vanish. CSS errors and bad paths to images might also be at work. No way to know for sure without a link to your page.
First, use the code validation tools below and fix reported errors.
