Design view (CS3) is completely highlighted - can't edit content

On one of the websites I have developed, when I go to Design view and click on the content I want to revise, all content and photos are highlighted, so I can't just edit one word or sentence.  I have to go to Code view and search for that content in order to change it, meaning I don't have the ease of adding links in the Design view, etc.  One of the web pages with this problem is:  http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/about/education.asp, which validates.  The CSS is http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/css/greenkarat.css, which also validates.  Below is a screen print of the design view that doesn't allow me to edit.  How can I clear this up?  Thank you.  P.S.  If I "temporarily" remove one of the closing div tags - </div>, I can then edit in the Design view, but I need to add the div tag back in before I upload the file to the server.  If the div tag is not added back in, the page does not validate

http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/about/education.asp is a dead link (404 error).
Can you re-upload so we can see the page?

  • Can't edit in Design View (CS3)

I've been happily working between the code and design views, and all of the sudden, whenever I click on a section in the design view, it highlights the entire top-level div (<body><div#container>)and I cannot edit.  I did, however, notice that the area 'outside' of my page is crosshatched white.  My only workaround is to make all edits in the code view.
Did I accidentally change a setting that I am not aware of?  Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    SWO

It matters a great deal - a container for which overflow:hidden is in effect will be rendered as a unique block formatting context.  In simple words this means that floats within that container will be cleared before closing the container.
Anyhow, if you DOUBLE click in the Design view, you will now be able to edit.  You could also right click on the element, and choose ELEMENT VIEW > Full to allow editing of its content.

  • Design view CS3

I just installed CS3 and in design mode it is not showing any
CSS styling. I have to go to a web browser to see it. How can I
    fix?

    How can I fix?
    1) select View>Toolbars>Style Rendering
is the first icon enabled? That will display screen media
    styles. Other
icons display other media styles and/or toggle off the
    rendering of
styles in design view altogether. It's easy to forget about
    this toggle!
Hope that's all it is. The other possibility is that you are
    using a
webroot relative path structure but your site structure isn't
    the same
    as the remote server.
I bet it's the first, though. Like working on your car, look

  • Dreamweaver CS5 design view background is black, how can I stop this?

Hey everybody! I have a problem with Dreamweaver CS5's design view only showing a black background. I can create a brand new html document either as a standalone file or as part of a site and it will show a completely black background wheather it's saved or not. This also is a problem with pages that I have already created and with pages created with a Dreamweaver pre-installed template. I can't see anything unless it's not black. It is not affected by background colors either, in fact background colors don't show on anything I make; it's all black! The strange fact about this is that any given page will display just fine in Live View or in any web browser. Thanks in advance, I really need the help on this because I need to use the design view to position elements (which is a lot easier to do than guessing what would look best in code view).

    Have you sorted this problem?
I have changes from Dreamweaver CS5 to CC and it appears all my existing files have a black background in design mode but when I switch to "live" view it looks like it should and does on the net.
New files tend to look as they should. Although this change to CC is very recent. It seems like a configuration / preference issue that I can't find an answer for.
I have a work around at the moment.
Select view in menu -> visual aids -> CSS layout backgrounds
This makes all the CSS areas different colours, but you can see black text and items.
Selecting "LIVE" allows you to see what it is actually like.

  • PhpBB2 source code does not show in design view /CS3

I would like to customize a php bulletin board.
The default bulletin board page does not show in design view.
Is there a way to do it , such that php code can be written
by DreamWeaver via the design view ?

    > The files I am trying to edit, or that is think I should
    be trying to edit ,
    > are
    > index.php , and in the includes file template.php
If I am sorting this out correctly, which i am _not_ sure of
    at the moment:
    those aren't .tpl files.
they are .php files, and are part of the forum. They aren't
    displaying in
design view because they are all php.
You need to find and edit the template files.
    In previous link given:
    http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=10764
    <q>
So where do I find these great 'templates'?
Look in /templates/subSilver (thoroughout the FAQ I will be
    using subSilver,
the default template. If you are using a different template
    then change the
folder you look in accordingly). You will see a collection of
    files there.
The templates are the ones with the file extension '.tpl' The
    majority of
files in that folder are .tpl files. </q>
strongly suggest you make a backup copy of anything you try
    to touch.

  • Problem with type size in design view CS3

Has anyone experienced type in design view that is just too
small to read? It seems to be inconsisent -- type is speced the
same, but some of it is showing as 1 or 2 pt in my design view. Not
having this problem in DW8. Probably something that I did by
mistake, but I can't seem to "fix" it.
    Your help is most appreciated

Design View doesn't process code like a brower does. It's primarily used for viewing layout.
    Hence the name Design View.

I'm a recent MacSwitcher and found that DW 8 won't run worth
a damn on my new MacBook Pro (Intel). So am using trial version of
DW CS3 and having this bit of weirdness... where I put the cursor
on the page in design view is about 1 character "off" from where it
appears to be. Is this a CS3 thing? Mac thing? Stupid user thing?
It makes editing in design view practically impossible! Never had
this in any version on Windows. Any ideas? Thanks!

    ZebraDreaming,
Does the text use the CSS letter-spacing property? It's
    supported on
    Windows, but not the Mac.
If not, please provide a link to a page where you are seeing
    the problem.

  • Can Not Edit Content

    Hello,
When attempting to edit any of the fragments in the Custom Communications sample, Content Creator displays "The content in this resource cannot be edited". I've logged in as the administrator so I don't think it's a rights issue.
    Thanks for the help.

    wradclif,
There are 2 primary reasons why Content Creator would show this message:
You didn't import the collateral (all the fragments and letter templates) using the CGRImport tool. This tool does 2 things: (a) it sets attributes on the imported assets that lets Content Creator recognize them as various types (since everything is an XDP, Content Creator looks for these attributes to differentiate one XDP from one -- such as an XDP that contains a textual paragraph fragment as opposed to one that contains a regular form with fillable fields), and (b) it sets tags on assets if some were specified during import; OR
The XDP you are trying to view contains something that is causing Content Creator to think it can't edit the content. Textual paragraph fragments are strictly fragments with a single text object in them. Image fragments are strictly fragments witha  single image object in them (note that you can only view image fragments at this time).

  • InDesign CS3 - Created ToC, now can't edit the rest of the document

I have a small document -- about 56 A5 pages, no graphics or placed files, just styled text with tables -- in which I created two new pages after the title page and created a Table of Contents for insertion in them.
I applied a new Object Style to the ToC text frames to drop them to two columns -- the rest of the document is in one column.
Now I can't access any of the document for text editing except the Table of Contents. I can select any of the text frames with the selection tools, but as soon as I go to the text tool the cursor jumps to the end of the ToC. If I try to edit it in Story Mode, only the ToC text displays.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get at the rest of my document for editing? I haven't experienced this behaviour before at all.

OK, I found out what was going on.
When I inserted the ToC, it overflowed the two pages I had alloted for it before I reset its text frames to 2 columns. As a result, it created a bunch of extra text frames on top of the existing copy.
When I reconfigured the ToC text styles to fit its two pages, those text frames were left behind, but invisible -- whenever I tried to edit text on those pages, I was actually inserting the text cursor into these invisible text frames. Once those extra frames were deleted, I could get at the underlying frames directly again.
I worked this out when I discovered that I could get the cursor into text on later pages and then page-up into the pages that had been overlaid.
I haven't yet found any way of seeing what objects are on a given page apart from just looking at it, so I don't really know how to avoid this issue in future.

  • Suddenly can't open topics in design view

    Hello -
Last Friday, I had 2 RH projects open when the electricity went out in our building. When I opened these projects on Monday, I suddenly couldn't open most of the topics in design view. A few I can. What happens is that I get the hourglass and then RH stops responding. I waited 10 minutes and no progress. I can still right-click a topic and view/preview it, but I cannot open it in the design window.
So maybe something got hosed in the project, right? Well ... I opened a project that was not open at the time of the power surge and it's experiencing the same issue.
So maybe something in RH itself got hosted, right? Well ... I un-installed and re-installed RH and I still have the issue.
Any ideas? I'm completely at a loss.
    Thanks!
    Barry

    Hi there
Admittedly a long shot here. Have you tried reloading the default environment? Additionally, I'd also click Tools > Options and ensure that the WYSIWYG editor is the default. And if it is, try configuring another editor as the default. Then dismiss the dialogs and reset the default back to the WYSIWYG editor.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Design View Refresh doesn't work on mac CC

Hi Y'all, I'm having horrible trouble with Dreamweaver CC on mac, (10.8) quad core, 32GB RAM...
when highlighting something in design view, it does not highlight the respective code anymore like the older versions used to.
and the design view refresh does not work at all.
I've completely uninstalled, reinstalled, checked all system fonts for problems, I can't get this problem fixed, and I'm going to have to ditch CC and go back to old version, to be able to work!
here's a video showing the problem I am having:
    http://youtu.be/HHSpyc2Icrw
thanks in advance for any help!

I've just watched your video, and it's clear that you're having problems. The only obvious difference between your setup and mine is that you are using horizontal split view. So, I've just tested on my MacBook Air. Refresh and highlighting work just fine in both horizontal and vertical split view.
I realize that saying "well it's OK here" isn't much help, but your problems seem to have some other cause than simply having updated to the latest version of Dreamweaver CC.
Hopefully an Adobe staff member can intervene and draw your problem to the attention of an engineer. It would be useful to know if this happens on all pages, and all sites, or if there's something special about your current setup.

  • How to hide content in design view within Dreamweaver?

How can I hide content in design view within Dreamweaver?
I have a tabbed content menu that uses some javascript. Everything looks great in Live view, but when I go to design view, all the content goes way beyond the div. How can I make it to where I can hide the content in that div in design view or wrap it completely inside of there? It's really hard to explain which is why I provided some pictures!
    LIVE VIEW
    DESIGN VIEW
Thank you in advance for all the help!
    Dalton

Humm....... you want to hide it in Design View whilst working on the rest of the site?
If that is the case set the menu container <div> to display: none; -
    <div id="menu" style="display: none;">This is the content menu</div>
Then either set it to display: block; when you're ready to view it live or remove the style completely.

  • Design view in php files

can`t understand why, but, when I open php file which
contains some html formatting or not, (e.g. in *.html.php files of
CMS Joomla/Mambo) design view in DW-8 is inactive. When I rename
file to .html extension and open it then, design view is active and
I can work in WYSIWYG mode, but in previous versions everything has
    been OK.
I was not need to rename files each time.
Is there solution or newest version of DW can not work in
design view with files exept of html extension?

Thanks for the tips but... design view won't open at all,
there's no errors or anything like that, it just -wont open-. It
wont let me click "design view", it just remains stuck in code
view, but it allowed me to view design view last week.

    rough fix-
suggest using an external stylesheet for the site, so you
    don't need to have
each style in the head section. This will also reduce the
    number of styles
    and keep them consistent.
edit the WVA - News file. Select just after the <body>
    tag and erase to top
of file. Erase </body> and </html> at the end of
    file.
(tip- attach a "design time" stylesheet to the included file
    to see and
select the styles of the new external css file)
or- brute force fix if don't care about syntax- go into dw
preferences/invisible items and turn off rendering of
    included files. That
doesn't fix the problem, just prevents the errors from
    confusing design
    view.

  • Design View Appearing Blank

    Hello All:
I apologize that my first post is a question. I have searched
and cannot seem to find an answer to this. I am a new Dreamweaver
user but have been handcoding for ~7 years. I am self taught with
Dreamweaver so I may very well have done something wrong.
I created a template and everything worked fine in design
view and otherwise until I transfered said template to another
computer. On that other computer (and now on this one), my template
simple shows the background color (grey) instead of the rest of the
page. Oddly, when I put text in design view, it places it in the
first editable region on the template, which is around the body
tag. In Design view, it also shows up completely as an editable
region even though there is a <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
there to end the editable region.
When I open any of the pages in Firefox/IE5-6/Opera on
various operating systems I have absolutely no problem viewing and
navigating the site, and there are no javascript errors.
Am I doing something wrong? I can provide a screen shot of
both the working page and the non-working design view. My HTML is
not validatable but that is not of concern at the moment.
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Eric

You cannot place the body tag into an editable region using
    DW's UI. You
can do it manually, of course, with the consequences you
    describe.
If you want to edit the attributes of the body tag, there are
    several ways -
what is it you are wanting to do?
