Design view is off.

When I look at the design view, sometimes I only see 1/2 of what is there. Meaning the other 1/2 is over on the left hand side, but there is no way for me to scroll over to that side to make any changes and also see my changes. Any ideas???  See attached image.
Thanks!

Pictures don't tell the whole story.  It could be some malformed CSS or HTML code that misaligns your page in Design View.

  • I have a problem with landscape oriented pages being cut off at 8.5" horizontally, when in Design View.

I am trying to edit a form created in livecycle designer. Some of the pages are in portrait orientation and some in landscape orientation. The problem is that all the landscape oriented pages are cut off at 8.5" horizontally, so I can't edit the part that is cropped off. the full horizontal width of the landscape pages are visible in Preview PDF mode, but not Design View mode. Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to see all of the 11" width of these landscape oriented pages in Design Mode?

The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.

  • Cursor off-set from text in design view CS3

I'm a recent MacSwitcher and found that DW 8 won't run worth
a damn on my new MacBook Pro (Intel). So am using trial version of
DW CS3 and having this bit of weirdness... where I put the cursor
on the page in design view is about 1 character "off" from where it
appears to be. Is this a CS3 thing? Mac thing? Stupid user thing?
It makes editing in design view practically impossible! Never had
this in any version on Windows. Any ideas? Thanks!

    ZebraDreaming,
Does the text use the CSS letter-spacing property? It's
    supported on
    Windows, but not the Mac.
If not, please provide a link to a page where you are seeing
    the problem.

  • In Design View horizontal pages are cut off to portrait dimensions. How to fix this?

I am trying to  edit a form in livecycle designers "Design View" mode. Some pages are horizontal but they are displayed all in portrait mode, cutting off the right side of these horizontal pages so i can not see or edit them. Is there some way to fix it so I can see all of the page on these hoirzontal pages?

  • How come I can see my div in design view but not in live view

    Hi,
I have a div ID called "portfolio" that I can see in design view but not live view or on a browser. It's a little pink square and I want that square round also.
I ran it through validator. It picked up some things in the style.css which I changed and the boilerplate.css that I did not. Because I thought DW auto creates code for boilerplate because I don't enter that code myself.
It's also rejecting a lot of webkit code but this seems like standard webkit code that works elsewhere on the page.
BTW: at what point does this brutal hand coding pay off in money and less heartache when Wordpress looks cleaner and is so much easier to use? I feel like I barely know HTML or CSS in terms of translating vision to reality and with all-browser functionality after months and months of on-line classes. How long are the pros at it till they reach a watershed point?

      -webkit-border-radius: 75% 75%;
      background: pink;
      top: -300px;

The top:-300 is putting that div above the top of the browser viewport. Fix that and you'll see the div.

  • Table borders in Dreamweaver cs4 design view too big, I would like to have a single line for tables

    Hi All,
I design email templates using only tables but the design view options in cs4 only provide a huge 3px border in order to display the tables. In older versions of macromedia etc the table view is only 1px wide which makes designing a whole lot easier.
When I add tables within tables it adds more spacing and looks way off and it also looks off in browsers, causing me to have to increase and decrease padding sure this is no way to create table even if they have no borders and the table width is already fixed?
I have tried turning borders off in visual aids but there is no option to have just a single line to demonstrate a border!!
I can't work like this, can anybody help me or is this just the way borders are displayed in cs4 for the pc???

Hi Guys, thanks for getting back to me.
the problem is purely about design view display and not about coding.
Below is how CS4 displays borders with two lines which I find difficult to decipher:
Then below is Macromedia DM 8 and this how I want the borders to look, with single lines to display the tables.
This may just be the way Abobe have decided to display tables in design view and there may not be any option to change it but if you know any way to change it I would be most greatful.
    Thanks again.

  • PHP Include not showing in design view

One of the advantages of Dreamweaver is the ability to see
the result of your code in the Design view. I am building a
template set for a web site I'm starting, and will be using the
template files in various paths and path depths. As a result, I am
not interested in using relative paths for things like PHP
    includes.
If I use the following code for an include, the 'main.php'
file is included in the design view:
    <?php include('/includes/templates/main.php'); ?>
When uploaded to the Apache server, this does not display
properly, because it is looking for the file in the user root, not
    the Apache document root.
The portable code solutions to this would be to use the
    following code:
    <?php
    include($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/includes/templates/main.php');
    ?>
This shows perfectly when uploaded to the Apache server, but
of course does not show in the Design view of Dreamweaver.
It is ridiculous to think that someone would want code one
way to see in the design view, and another for the web server, so I
am assuming that there is a way to do this so that it works both in
the desing view and on the web server.
I have had limited success using:
    <?php virtual('/includes/templates/main.php'); ?>
which shows up in both the design view and on the web server.
However, I've experienced problems using virtual calls in scripts
called by the virtual command. I.e. nested inclusions. It would be
important to note that PHP's own documentation states "This
function may be used on PHP files. However, it is typically better
to use include() or require() for PHP files.", along with other
    warnings.
So, basically, what I am asking for is a solution to allow
the following code to work and show the included file in the design
    view:
    <?php
    include($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/includes/templates/main.php');
    ?>
    Any suggestions?
BTW, I have tried setting the PHP include_path to the web
root so that the first example above would work. Doesn't work. I
have full, unrestricted access to the server, so if there is
another setting or configuration change I can make to have the
include function default to the web root, I'd love to know what it
    is.

language, you need to use Live Data view.
I'm not referencing dynamic output from PHP processing. I am
referencing includes. When using an include, Dreamweaver shows you
exactly what it would show you if you were looking at the included
    file itself.
However, Dreamweaver makes the assumption that <?php
include('/inc/test.php'); ?> is a path located in the web server
document root. This is not the same assumption that web servers
    make.
The Apache web server (at least the several that I use),
treat this same include as a request for /inc/test.php off of the
root of the server. To achieve the same include, relative to the
web document root, the include must be <?php
    include($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/inc/test.php'); ?>.
Unfortunately, Dreamweaver does not understand this basic syntax
and will not show the included file in the design view.
The bottom line is that Dreamweaver could make it much
simpler to build portable code if it understood this syntax on the
include. You could take place that include in any location on your
site and it would pull the include from the proper location in both
your design view and on the web server.
Keep in mind that we establish a "document_root" when we set
up a site in Dreamweaver. The information is already there. The
handling of it just needs to be added to the include parser.

  • Auto Inserting tags in Design View

    Hi,
I keep running into a problem that is bugging the crap out of
me and I was hoping the Dreamweaver community could help me solve
    it.
Whenever I am in Design View, and I add, say a table, then
type some text inside any of the cells, there is a opening and
closing p tag that automatically is added around the text.
p tags are no good for me because stylesheets in my CMS
controls the p tags and in order to avoid this from happening, I
would have to apply styling to every page, which obviously is
horribly inefficient. I figured Dreamweaver being the powerful
beast of a website editor it is, would have some option that allows
me to either turn this off entirely, or modify what gets added.
    Could someone help me out?
    Thanks!

Don't touch the return key them
I just tested it on Dw CS3 - brand new page - created new
    table, and
    entered text.
    No <p> tags -
but if you hit return key - it put in a new paragraph - as
    one might

  • External/Remote Images no longer appear in Design View!

    Hi,
    First post here.
Suddenly external/remote images in Dreamweaver CS3 no longer appear when viewed in Design View.
All I get now is grey boxes!
I have tried toggling 'Display External Files' on and off, made sure Cache is off (tried it with on too) and nothing seems to make a difference.
If anyone could help please, it's so annoying
    Thanks,
    James

    Windows XP.
I'm an experienced web designer, 10+ years so you will have to trust me my code is fine.
It just shows the grey boxes in place of where the images should be.

  • Design view is out of whack

I was working on Dreamweaver CS3 a couple of days ago and all
of a sudden (I'm pretty sure I pressed something) the design-view
went weird. I usual work in split view to see the coding and design
simultaneously. Now, the design view displays the given page I am
working on differently than how it would be seen in a browser.
For example, I have my home page, which shows a title and
four text links to the left of a centered image. However, in the
design view mode, it is shown as everything being aligned to the
left. The title, then the image, and then the four links.
I'm sure this could be easily reversed if I only knew what I
had pressed to make it this way. Please let me know if you can
    help. Thank you!

    > However, in the design view mode, it is shown as

That's an indication that a link to an external css
    stylesheet is broken, or
that displaying CSS is turned off.
Look in the View menu under the CSS section, it's probably
    set to not
    display css.

  • Dreamweaver 8 Design View render issue

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a highly
irritating issue with DW8 that is apparently not an issue in the
Design View of DW MX 2004.
In DW 8 for some reason I'm getting an extra 150 pixels of
white space to the right of my #content container. It only appears
to happen when the content within the #content container does NOT
exceed the length of the content in my menu container (#priNav2).
In other words, if the content is longer then the menu, it renders
    fine.
    See here:
    Dreamweaver
    8
But, in DW mx2004 the exact same file shows up how it should.
    Dreamweaver
    MX 2004
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue
or have a clue as to why this is happening? It's really one of the
only bugs left preventing me from upgrading to DW 8 anymore.
    Thanks,
    - Paul

After some tinkering around and a call to Tech. Support I
eventually resolved this issue by pointing out a bug to Adobe.
Apparently the problem is the View / Visual Aids / Invisible
Elements option. If this is turned on, and you have a website set
    up similiarly to
    this one, you will
experience this sporatic, extranenous white space that shifts your
content around. It is not an issue in DW MX 2004, only DW 8.
The solution is to just simply turn OFF the "Invisible
Elements" option. Then the page will render the way it should.
A bug report has been submitted.

  • Why hasn't the tutorial been updated to reflect 4.7's lack of a Design View?

This series uses version 4.5 which is no longer available. It frequently mentions the DESIGN VIEW and how easy it is to use, yet there is NO design view (nor is there a Components tab on the lower left box) in current version 4.7. Not only that, but the code used in several of the first day examples is not valid in Flash Builder 4.7 / Flash Player 11 and the browser refuses to show those examples (btw: most of the examples  still work in 4.7). There are now ActionScript related errors in the examples that demonstrated Design View. You've had 2 years to fix this...
It seems that you  might be shooting yourself in the foot here by:
    1. Not giving new users who want to learn how to work in this environment current information (or at least linbking to new information). This is NOT a way to encourage new customers!
    2. Not showing any work around options - such as linking to Dreamweaver, Illustrator or Flash Pro in some way? or updating the tutorial and showing how to create the components in the code view?
    3. Marketing? Standards? groups within the company need to anticipate and develop fixes BEFORE making such drastic changes - this has NOT been done and it reflects poorly on the product (which is actually pretty cool)!
    What is the alternative?
Aren't there other tools in CC that can be integrated in some already well defined way? i.e. I can edit a menu in Encore by selecting "edit in Photoshop". Why can't something like this be available?
I realize that this is one of Adobe's evolutionary mashup products (ie. Flash uses the timeline that originated in Director, Premiere & AfterEffects use tools acquired from CultEffects and AutoMasker, etc.) so there are many behind the scenes licensing issues that have determined the product evolution (and the products occasionally evolve in unexpected ways) - but it seems a bit contrarian to remove useful features without providing workarounds that users will think are BETTER than the old way!

Why complicate yourself? Adobe has almost pulled itself off from enterprise level flex delevopment to create new HTML5 tooling.
They will not pay to upgrade a training that is on the verge of getting unsupported. Just satisfy your training needs with other resources, such as lynda.com, pluralsight, etc.
Always remember, we are talking about capitalist companies here, if its not done for profit, then its not possible.

  • Design view different from preview  -  is muse still in beta testing

I have limited experience with coding html so when Adobe released Muse, I was excited. However, I'm wondering if they released it too soon and/or if it is still in beta testing - which I don't mind but would like to know what I'm dealing with. It seems to have a lot of quirks - mainly that the design view is sometimes different from the preveiw or browser view. I spent over an hour yesterday trying to get text boxes to line up. If there is an hidden element affecting the text boxes, I don't see it. I have moved everything off the page and >selected all
    and nothing shows up.
    Other issues:
Sometimes paragraph styles do not apply - even though in design view it looks like they do.
Can't find a way to center text vetically in a text box other than adjusting the leading?
Can't find a way to organize assets into folders?
When an object is selected on a page, is there a way to indicate that that is the object in the assests panel?
Sometimes the padding options are not available for no apparent reason.
Thanks to the Adobe staff for being responsive as these issues are discovered. One staff member in particular was very helpful as I was trying to get hyperlinks to work right. But I am STILL having a problem. The text box and the text itself have the hyperlink style applied but as you can see on the Dardanelle and Chad Lawson Trio hyperlinks - the style did not take even though they are both hyperlinks that point to the right URL.  -- geezermusicclub is the correct link for Dardanelle - It's difficult to see in the pic, but the Dardanelle and Chad Lawson text color is black but the hyperlink text style is brown.
Persoanlly, I feel Adobe should lower the subcription price while all these kinks are being worked out in Muse. In a way, subscribers are **** a LOT of beta testing for Adobe. Not only are we not being compensated for that, we are having to pay for an application that has too many wrinkles.

Murray and David: it worked! It is a rare and joyous experience to have a straightforward solution to the sorts of problems I come up with (including other realms). But I have to say that with HTML and CSS (and hence with Dreamweaver), solutions to difficulties have seemed within easier reach than in other parts of the computer world.
By the way, I wanted to choose "correct answer" for both your posts, but after making the first click it was no longer available for the remaining post--so I typed "helpful" even though that one was correct too.
    Thanks again.

  • Design View Nonworkable - Fine in Browsers and Validation

    Hi!
I have year old sites and new sites using CSS and server side
includes (both php and asp) that are nonworkable in design view in
Dreamweaver CS3. Sites were fine in Macromedia 8 but not now. My
very old sites are fine - they are straight HTML sites.
I have read several past posts on this problem and ruled out
many of the solutions for my case. My pages are clean in WC3
validation (meaning no errors) - since this is what Adobe
Dreamweaver support was concerned about when I took out an support
incident with them. The sites display fine in 6 browsers, but not
in DW CS3 now that I upgraded. This makes no sense.
I see some answers that CS3 is not as tolerant as before of
bad coding. This is not the issue, it is validated and displaying
    across browsers fine.
I and my staff are crippled working on these sites now that
we have all upgraded to CS3 with the way they are displaying.
Here are some pages that I am having problems with:
    http://www.scandpg.org/meeting_event.php
    http://www.eatrightny.org/about/about_site.php
    http://www.eatrightmissouri.org/jobs/index.asp
(site workign on now, not live)
    http://www.hada.com/about/board.asp
I have found if I uncheck server side includes in preferences
for invisible elements I can work on the content better, but this
is a workaround but does not resolve the fact that DW is not
displaying coding in view correctly and still leaves some issues
    when developing a site.
Thanks for your help in shedding light on this as I may be
off. My conclusions are drawn from a support incident/ticket with
Adobe on this very same thing, looking at the DW forum postings
over the last six months on this and my own recent experiences.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Healthy regards,
    Teresa

If you want to work in DW, then you must adopt this approach
    to the use of
    server-side includes:
    > The parent file is the ONLY one that can contain
    <html>, <head>, or <body>
    > tags.
    > The include files cannot contain those tags.
    > The final assembled page must therefore only contain one
    instance of each
    > with its associated closing tag.
That seems to be your largest problem.
