Designer 6i and 10G internal database dictionary diagram

I want to have a better understanding of the back side of Designer tools to accomplish the migration of Designer 6i to 10G.
I would like to known where I can find the database dictionary of Designer 6i and 10G.

As for running 6i and 10g on the same machine, yes you can do it. You just have to install them in separate Oracle Homes, and be careful when you tell them which version of EXP and IMP to use. There is one MAJOR caveat, however. They cannot use the same Designer Repository - 6i client won't talk to a 10g repository and 10g client won't talk to a 6i repository. You can upgrade a 6i repository to 10g with the RAU, but take a backup before you do - the only way to go back is to restore your backup. Besides, I think that if you upgrade to the last supported version of Designer 6i (you should be able to get it from MetaLink) you will get the Publish Diagrams utility.
Frankly, my opinion is that there is only one reason to stay on 6i - if you need to generate and support 6i client/server Oracle Forms. If you don't use Oracle Forms, or if you have moved on to Web Forms with the middle tier Forms Server, I'd recommend an upgrade to Designer 10g and Developer 10g.

Connect Oracle Developer / Designer to Oracle 10g XE database

I have installed the Oracle 10g XE database on my PC. Also on the same computer I have installed Oracle 10g Developer Suite (Designer, Forms etc). The database runs ok without problem. However I cannot connect Designer to the database. I know a listner program (e.g. tsn listner) has to be installed for the purpose of connecting to the database. When starting the XE database a listner program also is started.
My question:
What do I have to do inorder to have the Designer connect to the XE database?

Is there any changes should I do?!Well sorry but I don't know. This sugesstion to copy sqlnet.ora file resolve my problems to connect with Developer 6i to 10g, but that is 10g EE in my office, not XE at home...
Anyway your sqlnet.ora file look like very "default" but maybe is that O.K. on XE?

11.5.10.2 12.1.1 and 10g 11g database upgrade at same time

I have just started an 11.5.10.2 > 12.1.1 upgrade and have created a project in MWIZ 2.15 for it.
I would also like to upgrade the 10.2.0.2 database to 11.1.0.7 as part of the same upgrade and create an MWIZ project for that.
I have a couple of questions that the MWIZ FAQ does not address:
1. At what point in the 11.5.10.2 > 12.1.1 upgrade should I do the database upgrade?
MWIZ has two points when it can be done based on apps/database versions. One is at the end of the 'Prep for Upgrade' category and the other is during the 'Upg to Rel 12.1.1' category. The MWIZ step notes cover upgrading to the latest 10g or 11g patch version but not upgrading from 10g to 11g so I am unsure which category to go for.
2. When I create the database upgrade project which 'Destination Version' should I choose?
The two options are 'RDBMS 11.1 and E-Business Suite 11.5' and 'RDBMS 11.1 and E-Business Suite 12'.
As I haven't upgraded to R12 yet and am still at the pre-upgrade stage should I pick 11.5? Or should I go with R12 because I am upgrading Apps and the database at the same time?

Having read the 24th December update of note 761570.1 - 'Database Preparation Guidelines for an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Upgrade' I have decided to upgrade the database to 11.2.0.x by following the Path C option.
Unfortunately as the 11.2.0.x upgrade isn't covered by MWIZ yet I will have to follow the manual steps.

Suse9.1 and 10g create database issue

My database creation always fails with ORA-27125: unable to create shared memory segment.
I've used orarun.rpm to set all kernel parameters and crosschecked it with official pdfs, seems ok.
I also tried export DISABLE_HUGETLBFS=1, no luck.
Anyone out there who could give me a hint ?

actually, I just wanted it the easy way : use the predifined db and change/add my tablespaces later.
Using 1G phys.RAM, 2G swap.
Last try was SGA 280M, thought similar.
There was no alert.log yet, although $ORACLE_BASE/admin structure was there already.
Meanwhile I saved custom scripts from dbca with the same values and ran from shell to tee out any errors.
It finished without any errors !!!
So, - happy for now, but a little bit 'disconcerted'.
Are there any other defaults or conditions that have to be met with the seed-databases, like a running emctl ?
I'm working with 8.1.7 still.
Any more input would be nice, but anyway thanks for fast reply.

i dont think its possible with original exp/imp....and also not possible with data pump (10g and up)....but not sure on data pump....data pump has capability of restarting a job..but didnt heard about appending (atleast not that i heard).
only way i can think of...create triggers on every table when DML happens and insert the new data into new tables...and then exp those new tables and import the new tables...thats the only way i can think of...again just my 2 cent....

Export / import problem in apex 3.0.1 using 10g xe database

I developed an application on my pc using apex 3.0.1 and 10g XE database. I tried to export the application and saved it as .sql file. I want to import and install this application on my work development environment, which uses the 10g XE database and apex 3.0.1. The install was successful but when I run the application I see the login screen messed up and not functional, seems like it's missing the images and the javascript files. Can any one tell me what I am missing here, where are those files. Is there any configuration has to be done on the workspace for importing applications from a different workspace?

Look at the Application Definition page and see if the Image Prefix attribute is correct for the "work" development environment. It's usually /i/ but maybe it's different in the new environment (check existing applications there to confirm). Also, were there any application- or workspace-specific images used by the application in your "pc" environment?

Can I use designer 6i to model an object oriented database to be deployed in either v8.x or 9i of oracle.

Both Designer 6i and 9i Designer allow you to model object types in a schema diagram and generate these. You are really still modeling a relational table with Oracle object types and not an object oriented database. The functionality of Designer will not be extended beyond to handle this aspect of database modeling.

wish U happy new year...
I have installed oracle 9i and 10g database ..but 10g database is not working it says TNS protocol adapter error or invalied username password...I stpeed the 9i services and listner in the 9i home...but 10g database is not working.9i and 10g databases are in two different partitions....
I want to know is it possible to running 9i and 190g database in same PC...if it's possible pls can you give me a solution for my problem

when I was trying to up the database it is looking for another listener
and massage coming listener is not running...Not clear. The database does not look for a listener, maybe you got that error when trying to connect ?
Do you have a listener 10g service ? Did you start it ? If not, please try the following :
C:\> set ORACLE_HOME=<Your 10g Home>
C:\> set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
C:\> lsnrctl start
wait up to a minute, then execute
C:\> lsnrctl status
and post the result.

How to start Oracle 10g RAC database and clusterware?

I have steps to stop the 10g RAC Database and clusterware but not sure about starting it.
I have heard executing
$crsctl stop crs --as root
on each node
will start the database,asm,nodeapps .Is that true?
or we have to do that step by step like we do in stopping the clusterware and database below
1.Stop the agent:
cd to $AGENT_HOME/corpng04.amhc.amhealthways.net/bin, then run: ./emctl stop agent
2.Stop the full database
$ oracle_home/bin/srvctl stop database -d db_name
3.Stop the ASM Instances on node1,node2
$ oracle_home/bin/srvctl stop asm -n node -- I guess you can't give multiple nodes in one command with comma,you need to give this multiple times with diff node name
4.Stop the NodeApps :vip,listener,oms and gsd
$ oracle_home/bin/srvctl stop nodeapps -n node -- I guess you can't give multiple nodes in one command with comma,you need to give this multiple times with diff node name
5.Stop the CRS cluster processes :those bloody 3 evmd,ocssd,crsd
$su - root
$CRS_home/bin/crsctl stop crs

i tried like....... start button--->run--->exp--->
then it asked password. I have no password to my local database only scott/tiger. i given this, but in one attempt window has closed.
pls guide me how to export data.

10g rman database and archivelogs backup with multipled archlog destination

I just want to restrict rman form backing up the two location using the 'one shot' 10g syntax
I used to backup using two steps
1) datafile
2) archlogs with a LIKE expression to tell Rman where to find the archlogs
1+2 with autobackup of control+spfile
the 'backup database plus archivelog ' syntax does accept a 'LIKE' expression
