Running Designer 6.0 against Oracle 11 - Getting error cid-20002

When we try to Oracle Designer 6.0 against Oracle 11 we get error message cid-20002.
Some of the functions work but not all and the ones that don't work gives us the error above.
What is cid and where can I find info about it?

Best suggestion you turn to a supported configuration, only Designer version 10gR2 (10.1.2.4) - currently the latest version - works with 11g.

Problems Installing Designer 6.0 over Oracle 8i (Linux SUSE 8.0)

I have problems installing Designer 6.0 over Oracle 8i (Linux SUSE 8.0). When I try to create the repository the installation hang up. I try over Oracle 8i (WIndows 2000) and the problems remain.
Please any body can help?
Is it possible to install Designer 6i and generate forms 6.0 (I mean for using Developer 6.0 (NOT 6i))?

I had the same problem. Oracle gives as an answer that Designer 6.0 is not supported against 8.1.7. In the specified package a statement is issued which is a problem for 8.1.7. I changed that package and now it works fine.
Comment as below and replace with the delete statement, then it compiles fines.
I don't know if any problem can occur after that, but a Migration from a 1.3.2 repository to 6i works fine through this repository. Hope this helps.

Universe Design Best Practices for Oracle

Hello All,
We recently moved from XIR2 on MS SQL 2005 to XI 3.1 on Oracle. This has been a difficult move for us as my team is new to oracle. I'm currently working on several performance issues between BOBJ and Oracle and am looking for documentation on best practices for universe design with oracle. I've foudn tidbits here and there regrading using parameters joing_by_sql and boundary_weight_table, wondering if there are other options out there that might help. We have queries taking 45+ minutes to run and that is totally unacceptable.

Problems starting Designer 6.5 of Oracle 8i in Personal Ed. 8i in PC

Can you help me?
I have problems starting Oracle Designer 6.x in Windows 98 and Personal Edition 8i.
I'm not in a LAN and I don't have the client installed.
I don't know the user systems for Designer, I prooved with the SYSTEM anad SYS user but I cant access to the product.
Do I requiere the client?. Do I require connecting to the server Database?.
Any idea?

I had this problem the best thing to do is make sure you have the Blackdown.org JDK116_v5 for Linux installed. Then:
JAVA_HOME=/somedirectory/jdk116_v5
export JAVA_HOME
This fixed the problem for me and I was able to run runIns.sh.

Problems installing Designer 6.0 on Oracle 8.1.7

I'm trying to install Designer 6.0 for NT on an Oracle 8.1.7 database running on Win2K. When compiling the package cioue_element_type the server "hangs". I have to shutdown the database to get rid of the process.

Designer will not work on express edition of the Oracle Database. You will need the Standard or the Enterprise Edition of the Database.

Create new Application on Designer 6.0 with Oracle 8.1.6

ORA-01403.....i tried placing all the rights but to no avail. i keep getting the error ORA-01403, no data found. It seems that many are having the same problem so i hope that the headstart team can help us on this.

I4m not a member of the Headstart team, but I would like to help you.
I have one suggestion for you.
What you have to do is look for a script file called CKROROLE.SQL on your desginer home/directory and run it as the SYS user.
Its purpose is creating a new role called DES2000_OWNER which gives to the repository owner permission to create a new application.
After that you will be ready to enjoy the benefits and headaches of Designer.

Can Oracle Designer 10g (10.1.2.6 - last release) generated files (*.fmx, *.plx, *.mmx, *.rep...) be deployed onto Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g platform (Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11.1.1.2.0 + Weblogic Server 10.3.3) without further recompiling?

Modelling databases in Oracle Designer environment

Today I had laboratory's which subject was: "Modelling data and designing databases scheme in Oracle Designer environment" and I have to make a report for tommorow. I can't find some answers for questions which our Professor told us to include in the report. I would be very grateful if enyone here can help me.
1) How looks in SQL code definition of the key of the table if relationship have PRIMARY UID attribute?
2) Is there any difference in SQL code between references replying to transferable and not transferable relationships
3) Why some tables have more columns than number of attributes in entities (entities contains the same things that tables)?
My english isn't perfect, sorry for that. But I hope that I wrote that wuestions correctly.

3) OD entity models don't include inherited referential key attributes, whereas the SQL tables (obviously) require them.

Hi,
I'm currently using Oracle 9i DB and Dev/Des 6i. In my case I installed the 9i DB first since in order for me to succesfully create a repository I need a working DB first.

I'm currently planning a project for an intranet-based OLTP
system to be designed using Oracle Designer. Initially the
users will all have WinNT desktops and laptops, but there is a
move towards Psion palmtops and/or smartphones, so the
flexibility of XML/XSL is very appealing.
Designer permits the generation of PL/SQL packages to produce
HTML applications. Are there plans to include an option to
similarly generate XML code? Is it worth proceding with the
development of a system usiing the HTML generators on the basis
that XML generators will become available, or should I be
planning to do most of the development by hand?

Problem in updating relationships - Oracle Design Editor

Hello
I am using the tool Oracle Design Editor of the Oracle suite Desginer for ERD modeling.
I'm having trouble updating the changes in primary keys of tables in their relationships children (FK), is not updating. When I delete a primary key field, the table has the reference field is not being deleted.
This is a software failure or is a normal behavior?
Someone could help me.

I'd love to try this out and see what really happens, so I can give you the absolutely correct answer. Unfortunately, I've been snowed in and haven't been in the office all week, and I don't have Designer on the home computer on which I'm typing this.
My guess from faulty memory is that if you delete a column from a multi-column PK, Designer will remove the column from the FK constraints that reference it, but will not remove the corresponding column from the related tables. After all, Designer doesn't know that this column is ONLY used as part of an FK. As far as it knows, you may need that column for some other purpose.
Let me give you two hints about the way Designer was designed to work that may clarify this:
First of all, Designer has an Entity/Relationship diagrammer that works on the logical design level - modeling Entities rather than Tables, and Relationships rather than Foreign Keys. It was expected by the creators of the tool that you would do most of your design in the ER diagrams, then use the Database Design Transformer (DDT) to translate that design to the Table Definitions of your physical design. In the E/R diagrammer, you can designate key attributes (attributes become your columns), but you don't have to. DDT will create key columns for you when it translates your logical design to a physical one.
Secondly, Designer expects that most of your primary keys will be surrogate primary keys that are single columns set from Oracle Sequences. There are many advantages to using surrogate keys for PKs and FKs, while natural keys are used only for unique keys. One of the advantages is that surrogate keys are non-updatable, which will greatly reduce the chore of maintaining foreign keys. If you do a web search, you will see a lot of discussion of the pros and cons of surrogate PKs.
