Designer 9.0.4.6 (Repository 4.0.12.97.6) on Linux?

Is there ANY way to get Designer 9.0.4.6 for LINUX?
Or
Is there ANY Designer for LINUX working with repository 4.0.12.97.6?
I'm tired of downloading Developer Suites 9.x & 10.x and wondering which version of Designer will be inside and if there is a patch to upgrade it to 9.0.4.6.
Maybe there is some magical page or PDF with this information on Oracle's web sites, but it's certainly hidden well - so well there is no link pointing to it.
Please HELP!

The Repository will run in any Oracle RDBMS version that is listed on the supported configurations page on Metalink. For the latest version of Repository, this is 9iR2. I run my repository on Oracle 9iR2 for Red Hat Linux 7.2, and it works fine. However, if you want the Designer client to run on Linux, you have a LONG wait - try "never". It is highly dependant on the underlying Windows environment, and would be very difficult to rewrite for Linux. Oracle won't do it - they consider Designer to be a "mature" product and have cut to a minimal support team.
You could try it under WINE, the Linux/Windows compatibility project, and I would be very interested in knowing if it worked, but it would be totally unsupported by Oracle.

  • How can I install a Designer 6.0 pre-configured repository ?

    Hi:
    I am trying to install Oracle Designer 6.0 to my client machine (Windows 2000) and server machine (Windows NT 4.0), what I did was:
    [1]install Designer 6.0 client side on my client machine.
    [2]install Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition (version 8.1.7) on the server machine.
    [3]configured SQL*Net Client and NET8 on both client and server, and it works fine.
    [4]install pre-configured repository using Oracle Designer 6.0 CD #2 (pre-configured repository),but it always gives me such info:
    " You have not installed a local copy of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition, therefore, Oracle Designer and ODD D7O4 Preconfigured Repository can not be installed. Please re-install this product after the local
    database has been installed."
    It seems strange, I did install 8i Enterprise Edition (I even installed Oracle8 Enterprise Edition) before repository, I should have
    a local database.
    How should I do next ?

    Hi Zhu:
    Now that you are trying to install Designer, your problem is easy to solve.
    I think you should download Oracle Designer 6i Release 4 for Windows from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/designer/software_index.htm and then do your install again.
    The install and the server side setup maybe time consuming, but I am sure you can do it.
    You may install Designer 6i Release 4 in the following steps:
    (Before do these, uninstall your Designer 6.0 both from your client machine and Windows 2000 server using Oracle Installer)
    Step 0: download Oracle Designer 6i Release 4 from OTN to your local directory, say c:\temp and unzip it to c:\temp\Designer6iR4. I will refer this directory as installation media. Make sure that you have equipped your server machine with at least 256MB memory. In my experience, 386MB is better and 512MB is recommended.
    Step 1: make sure that one database was created in your installed Oracle 8i. If not, create a database at this step. The parameters of this database should be adjusted according the needs of Designer 6i. You will be told how to do this later.
    Step 2: install Designer 6i R4 from the installation media to server machine. Pay attention at this step that you should "select to install both Designer and Repository." It is recommended that Designer should be installed to another new ORACLE_HOME. Don't install it to your Oracle database home. Say, to the ORACLE_HOME "DESDEV".
    Some more words need to be said here, I think, about the ORACLE_HOME for Designer. Later if you install Oracle Developer into the same machine as Designer is installed to, both the Oracle Developer and Oracle Designer should be installed into the same ORACLE_HOME. So the name DESDEV stands for "DESigner and DEVeloper are both installed into the same Oracle home named DESDEV". This will be prompted to you just after the installation of Designer was finished.
    Step 3: print out "Oracle Repository/Designer Installation Guideh from "Stat->Programs->Oracle Repository 6i Doc - DESDEV". I will refer this material as gManualh from here till the end of our talk.
    Step 4: shutdown your database if it is running and then set the parameters to the correct values (required values) according to gCheck the settings in the Oracle initialization parameter fileh in the Manual, Chapter 2 Server-side installation, migration and upgrade.
    Step 5: startup the database and then check the parameters. To do this, you need to login to database as user sys and then issue the command gshow parametersh. If all the parameters are correct you may go step 6. You may leave the database running.
    Step 6: make sure that the database is running. If not, startup database here. Before proceed to install Designer 6i Server-side, the database should in running status.
    Step 7: do the server-sidefs install of Designer 6i (that is, Repository) according to gChapter 2 Server-side installation, migration and upgradeh in Manual. In that part of manual, 17 steps of installation and setup Designer 6i server-side were mentioned. I am sure you can manage that with ease.
    Step 8: install Designer 6i client-side into your client machine according to hChapter 1 Client-side installationh in Manual from the installation media.
    By the way, I should tell you how much time it takes to accomplish all of these steps IF things were went smoothly: it took about 6 hours for me to have all these steps done. And my machinefs specifications is:
    CPU 633MHz
    RAM 512MB
    Wish you good luck

  • Where can I find the Designer column Description in the Repository ?

    I recently posted a question about where to find roles in the data model in Designer (what I was looking for was in ci_business_units (column role_responsibilities). That was a good discussion (and I was happy to find a Designer group).
    Now I am looking for the field "Description", here:
    I looked at all of these tables but couldn't find what I was looking for:
    sdd_folders app
    sdd_folder_members afm
    sdd_folders fol

    ci_modules mds
    ci_general_modules gen

    I also looked for columns like 'DESC%' in the entire d.b. and nothing seemed to be what I'm looking for.

    Hi Wim,
    There is an artikel at the technology blog of Amis "Quick Query to report on Entities and Attibutes in Oracle Designer" https://technology.amis.nl/2006/02/16/quick-query-to-report-on-entities-and-attributes-in-oracle-designer/ In that article they needed the Description of Entities and Attrbiutes which is inside CDI_TEXT. Maybe this is the same for the modules.

  • OBIEE Best Practice Data Model/Repository Design for Objectives/Targets

    Hello World!
    We are faced with a design question that has become somewhat difficult and we need some help. We want to be able to compare side-by-side actual measures with their corresponding objectives/targets. Sounds simple. But, our objectives are static (not able to be aggregated) with multi-dimensionality and multi-levels. We need some best practice tips on how to design our data model and repository properly so that we can see the objective/target for a measure regardless of the dimensions that are used in the criteria and regardless of the level.
    Here is some more details:

    - Right now we have quarterly objectives set using 3 different dimensions. So, if an author were to add one or more (or zero) dimensions to their criteria for a given measure they could get back a different objective. They could add Dimension1 and get 99%. They could add Dimension1 and Dimension2 and get 98%. They could add all three dimensions and get 97%. They could add zero dimensions (highest grain) and get 99%. Using our existing structure if we were to add a new dimension to the mix the possible combinations would grow dramatically. (Not flexible)
    - We would like our final solution to be flexible enough so that we could view objectives with altogether different dimensions and possibly get different objectives.
    - We currently have 3 fact tables with 3+ conformed dimension tables and a few unique dimension tables.
    Could anyone share a similar situation where you have implemented a data model structure with the proper repository joins to handle showing side-by-side objectives/targets where the objectives were static and could be displayed at differing levels with flexible dimensions as described?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hi..yes this suggestion is nice...first configure the sensors(activity or variable) ..then configure the sensor action as a JMS Topic which will in turn insert the data into a DB..Or when u configure the sensor action as a DB..then the data goes to Oracle Reports schema..if there is any chance of altering the DB..i mean if there is any chance by changing config files so that the data doesnt go to that Reports schema and goes to a custom schema created by any User....i dont know if it can b done...my problem is wen i m configuring the jms Topic for sensor actions..i see blank data coming..for sm reason or the other the data is not getting posted ...i have used a esb ..a routing service based on the schema which i am monitoring...can any1 help?

  • Using Designer as a code repository

    Hello,
    I am curious as to how many users on this forum use Designer as a source code repository as well as for logical/ physical modelling, code generation, etc.? We're in a position where we have a number of repositories to store 'code', and what is in Designer is often not the 'master'.
    I've always found the big weakness of CASE tools as code repositories to be the fact that, normally, only a handful of people in an organisation use them, and that most developers will just code by hand anyway. In addition, you need somebody with access to the tool to get the table DDL, or package or whatever.
    I realise that it would be good practice to have somebody administer this kind of thing anyway, but I'm interested in peoples' opinions. We're (still) using v6 so I realise the level of version control is far less granular than later versions of Designer, and I wondered if this is a big hindrance for us in this respect?
    Thanks, Antony

    Hi Antony,
    I would love to have used it - even with the version control of 6i/10g versions. However, as you said, on all the projects I've been on most developers prefer other tools ie: TOAD for writing the source code.
    I find now that Designer has just been left behind and has no chance of ever being used for writing code.
    If I was in the position of a brand new project with NO schema or PL/SQL what would I use? Dunno :) It may well be Designer to control the table/view definitions but would not be Designer for anything else (ie PL/SQL based). It might just be TOAD schema browser on a blank schema.
    Would be wary of using v6 without version control switched on - it's a great feature - but a little too late :(

  • Designer 9i vs 10g & repository versions

    Description:
    - our developers currently are using 9.2.0.7 against a repository built using the 9.2.0.7 client install.
    - they need to be able to create export sets to send to a third-party company that is using 9.2.0.6
    - we are rolling out forms/reports/discoverer 10g (9.0.4.0.1) and I would prefer to only have one iDS footprint for all developers
    questions:
    1. can we use the 9.0.4.x Designer (10g) against the existing repository that was created using 9.2.0.7?
    2. if so, can we transmit (successfully) designer object data (via the built-in export functionality in the object navigator) to this client site that uses 9.2.0.6?

    Hi Bob,
    I'm assuming you mean version 9.0.2.7 (not 9.2.0.7) of Designer.
    Q1.
    You probably can't use 9.0.4 clients against 9.0.2.7 - but I've not tried it. It's usually the case that when you upgrade the repository you also have to upgrade all the clients as well. Having said that, there have been cases when the repository hasn't changed and the clients could be mixed.
    Q2.
    As far as exporting from 9.0.2.7 and importing into 9.0.2.6 is concerned I can't be sure (I don't have easy access to both versions). I can say that, in general, repository exports are designed to be forward compatible - that is, it should be possible to import an export done on an older version (within reason). The converse is not necessarily true, however, so you may fail to import an export done on a newer version.
    However, this all depends on whether there have been changes in the underlying repository - if not, then in all probability, it could work. I suggest you give it a try and see what happens - but don't rely on this in future releases, for the reasons given above.
    There may also be issues with the underlying server versions since SCM uses the server's exp and imp utilities.
    I hope this helps a bit.

  • Design Time Repository question.

    Hi, I'm clustering my SOA Suite per a consultant and this documentation:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/core.1013/b28939/j2ee.htm
    In section 3.1.19 Configuring JNDIs for the Topic and Topic Connection Factory, it states:
    Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g, follow these steps to configure JNDIs in the Design Time and both ESB repository instances.
    Now I've followed these steps for the ESB repository, but I find it unclear as to what it's referencing with the "Design Time repository".
    I'm having an issue where the SOAP WSDL's pull up without problem, but the SOAP Endpoint URI's always fail, and I'm wondering if this may have something to do with it.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Paolo,
    I am doubtful about the use of NDS. This is because the libraries available with NDS will be for WAS 6.40 and EP6 SP2 i feel is on WAS 6.20. I am really not sure about this but my main point is that there may be library version conflict issues.
    I dont think there is any plugin available for DTR.
    But then DTR is a WebDAV based server. Hence any WebDAV client should be able to solve your purpose.
    But this is a good thread. Hope others will also provide their suggestions on this.

  • Can Repository 6i (release3) be used independently without designer

    Hi we are evaluating version control software
    Does anybody know how to configure/use Repository 6i (release 3) for file based version control:
    This is my requirement:
    We have 15 developers who are sharing /making changes to an application which has about 100 packages ..
    I would like to upload the packages (spec & body script files) into repository folders and then as repository owner check in all the packages for first time.
    Then would like all developers to login (all of them given access to select,insert, update) the package files to do regular check-in / check-out of the files
    Can this be done thru' repository 6i (Release3)
    I do not wish to load all the related database objects into design capture of the designer because it would be too big a task as our application cross links with several Oracle Apps (11.03) schema objects and multi-level views which
    All i need is the file (script) based repository management where in at any time we know which developer is working on which package (as he would have checked out/ checked in) thus avoiding more than one developer changing same package thus overriding others' change
    Let me know how to configure repository 6i release 3 for the above requirement.?
    Thanks

    Gajarajan,
    Yes you can use The 6i repository without using Designer. If you install Repository only then the Designer client and the Designer model is not installed. Once you do this then you would use the Repository Object Navigator or the commandline to do you software configuration management tasks. There isn't one way of using the software as this is dependent on the way your team wants to work. But it is possible to upload your code line and then allow developers to check out and check-in code. There is various locking strategies and the concept of branching to isolate one developers, or teams of developers work from others. There is also a security model that controls which files developers can see and what operations they can perform on them. There is a free web course on the Oracle Learning Network that introduces all these concepts. OLN can be accessed through the OTN site.

  • Can Designer generate ADF Entity Objects, View Objects and Apps Module ?

    Hi all,
    On what way can Designer integrate with JDeveloper (+ ADF) ?
    Can Designer generate ADF Entity Objects, View Objects and Apps Module ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    Designer itself has no direct integration with JDeveloper. However, there are three options. First of all, you can get a JDeveloper extension (download this separately) that lets you create a Connection to a Designer repository. From that Connection you can find modules that you defined in Designer and generate Entity and View objects for the tables and columns that you used in those modules, and an Application Module. It does not create JSPs or other user interface objects.
    Another option is to buy JHeadstart from Oracle. This contains a set of code generators and ADF extensions that include an ability to get information from a Designer repository. JHeadstart works fine for non-Designer users too, but was built by the same people who wrote Designer Headstart - they know the repository API intimately.
    The third option is to download Oracle Designer Extension Builder (ODEB) which was just recently made available. This is a product of a collaboration between Designer users from the Oracle Development Tools Users Group (ODTUG) and Oracle to extend the capabilities of Designer with user written tools and utilities. You could use ODEB to write your own generators for ADF Business Components. Or you could wait and see if someone else in the user community does this. I hope that you or whoever does such a generator will be willing to share it with us all.

  • PI 7.0 - Design - Release Transfer Question

    Hi,
    i created a new SWCV to extend a consisting integration scenario design. I'd like to copy the existing objects from the "old" SWCV 2.00 into the "new" SWCV 2.01. I'd like to use the function "Release Transfer", so that i have to change the consisting objects only in one place. I also want avoid to copy-paste all objects and namespaces.
    Is this possible? If yes, how can i do this? Are there any howTo's or blogs.
    If i just use the wizard, in the end i got always the same error:
    Object Interface Mapping IM_History_ALG2IF | http://mynamespace/mapping cannot be imported into software component version SC_JDA , 2.01 of jda.com because it's namespace is not permitted there Define the relevant namespaces in the target version before executing the release transfer
    Thanks in advance
    Michael

    Hi
    By using release transfer function, you can transfer design objects within an Integration Repository to other software component versions as follows:
    1) From a current software component version to the subsequent version, once development in the current version is finished
    2) From a software component version to an older version of the same software component, for example to make a correction available in an older version.
    3) From a software component version to a version of another software component. For example, this may be necessary because you may want to stop objects of software components that are based on each other from being available in the sub-software component, and only make them available in the superior software component.

  • How to Import 9i Repository into 10g Repository

    I downloaded and installed the latest developer suite 10.1.2.0.2 on one server and and I have old version of designer 9.0.2.10 repository on another server. I created an export of the repository from 9.0.2. I brought up the RAU using the 10.1.2 and the import button is greyed out. I want to import into the new repository owner schema. Any fallout running a straight import?
    userid=helloworld
    buffer=2097152
    file=a.dmp
    commit=y
    fromuser=old_rep
    touser=new_rep
    ignore=y
    indexes=y
    log=a.log
    rows=y

    If the import button is grayed out in the RAU then you have an installed repositoy.
    If you have a complete repository from 9i then you can install the 9i reposiotry and upgrade it.
    There will be several errors but that is ok. You will then need to check for invalid missing and disabled objects.
    Reload the missing and recompile the invalid.
    If you have more questions log an SR and I will step you through it

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler Repository

    Hi,
    I would like to know how to save all my applications into the Data Modeler Repository instead of doing it piece by piece and having to create a dmd file for every single application I imported into Data Modeler.
    In Oracle Designer, everything is in the repository and I can run reports against the tables and views belonging to that repository. So, I can produce a pdf documentation out of it. Can we do the same with Data Modeler?
    Thank you!

    Hello Anonymous,
    I'll start with your first comment - "I would like to know how to save all my applications into the Data Modeler Repository ". The Repository is just for reporting purposes, as Dimitar points outs, so saving all your applications in the Data Modeler is merely File - Save. This action saves the current design (with all its models) to the file system. The main premise here is that the Data Modeler is a file based product and all models and designs are saved locally to the file system. This is a positive move for many customers who are now building applications in Java or using any of the application development environments that work with a variety of files. They are taking all the artifacts and placing them under version control using open source versing tools like Subversion. Using the Data Modeler, they can do the same.
    For reporting you have a choice, one of which has also been explained. The action of creating a schema before you export the design is a one off step. Following on from this you can export new versions of the model to the same repository. The reason we did this was that many of the Designer audience wanted to write and run their own reports. So here you have a set of tables that you can write whatever SQL query you want to use.
    The other reporting option is to use the integrated reports in the product and you do not have to export the design or open another product or write SQL.
    Have you used the Design Rules in the Data Modeler? These are a set of "reports" for quality assurance purposes. There are many of these reports at all levels of the design which verify that your model is defined according to a set of database rules and general business rules and if you like, you can add your own rules.
    I attended ODTUG last week in LA and was really pleased to listen to a number of talks by well seasoned Designer users who have successfully transitioned to the Data Modeler and who had many positive experiences.
    Yes, the tools are different - but the one tool was not designed to replace the other - Data Modeler does none of the application design and generation that Designer does, those customers who have wanted to replace one tool (people are moving to the data Modeler from different tools) with the Data Modeler, have reported to me that they are pleased with the change.

  • Designer 6i (6.5)

    Message
    CDR-21207: Executable File Not Found.
    Cause
    The RAU was making an a call to another executable which it was
    unable to invoke.
    Action
    The two main causes are:
    1. Check the RAU Parameters screen to see if any of the Registry
    variables for EXECUTE_<executable_name>.. are UNDEFINED or spelt
    incorrectly
    2. The executable name is not available on the client, try running
    it manually from the command line
    This error appears during the installation of the repository from a client machine
    (WindowsNT4.0) where i have installed the Designer client. The repository is installed
    in another machine (Oracle 8i Enterprise Server). I followed the steps described in
    the Designer manual (about building the repository). I have also installed in the same
    machine (the client that is) the Oracle 8i client - in order to install the import
    - export tools from Designer (since an Oracle 8i HOME must exist).
    Anyone has any ideas how to solve this rather annoyning problem??

    Your problem might be related to the installer.
    Typically you need to install something from Designer (or Developer) first. They both use the 8.0 installer which gets real confused about the 8i definitions for Oracle home. The 8i installer is understandably smarter and can cope with the older "default_home" option.
    I don't know if this is your current problem, but it you instaled 8i client tools first I would expect to have problems with Designer (or Developer) installs.
    The only way I know to fix this, is de-install everything from 8i and remove the Oracle repository key in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE". If you don't know have to do this don't try it. Find somebody to help.
    This is just an idea, if you mess it up you can toast your PC, so if you use the idea it's at you own risk and take backups.
