Designer 9.2.3 and Headstart 6.5.3

Hi folks.
Is it okay to use Designer 9.2.3 with Headstart 6.5.3?
I'm coming up against a checkbox bug that's fixed in 9.2.3.
Any info. is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter

I'm migrating and old application made with Designer 1.3.2 and HeadStart 3.4.2W to Oracle 8i Release 8.1.6 and in many forms screens at commit time i'm receiving the message FRM-40501 "Unable to reserve records to update or delete". Any Clue, Anyone.

This is the same problem as posted by Chuck, right?
    ORA-01410
<p>I am not familiar with using instead-of triggers, so maybe someone else will help out here... Can you describe -- what does the instead-of trigger do?
<p>But: I am sure the problem is in the form, and not with corrupt indexes.
<p>Your Add_Table procedure is just setting up the record in the block to be added to the database. Everything looks normal there.
<p>But what have you changed in the form since it was working? Have you added some SQL statements? Maybe added a trigger to the block? Commit-time processing? Answer these things and maybe someone can help some more.
<p>It sounds like the rowid that Forms automatically sets after an insert is not being set, and you have added something (maybe inadvertently) that tries to update the record immediately after it is inserted. And the first thing that happens when you change a record is that Forms automatically issues a lock on the record (the select for update). This process uses a rowid, but your form has bypassed the process that sets the rowid.
<p>Good luck with Forms. It is frustrating at first, but it gets better. And Oracle is a great dbms to work on.

  • Differences between Headstart Oracle Designer and Headstart for Apps

    Hello,
I would like to know where i can find an online demonstration of the product "Headtsart for Apps 11i" ?
I have found the online demonstration of the product "Headtsart Oracle Designer" at the url :
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/headstart/headstartdemo_viewlet.html
I would like to compare the functionalities of these two products (the tabs option for example).
For a new application, we have the choice between "Headstart for apps"+"Oracle Application" environment or "Headstart Oracle Designer" alone.
If no demonstration exists, could you tell me the difference between these two products (i have understood that one run under OA and the other run alone) ?

    Hi,
Headstart for Apps and Headstart Oracle Designer are based on the same idea, and therefore there are many similarties between the two. The main differences are:
    * the look and feel
Headstart for Apps is used to generate Oracle Form screens with the same look and feel as a standard Oracle Application screen. Headstart Oracle Designer has its own look and feel.
Headstart for Apps also enables/eases some Oracle Applications specific look and feel features (although Headstart Oracle Designer has also adopted some of these).
    * dependency of Oracle Applications
Forms generated with Headstart for Apps cannot run outside the Oracle Applications framework. You will use the same security mechanism as for an Oracle Applications form, the same messaging system, and you can use the standard Oracle Applications built ins.
Headstart Oracle Designer runs completely outside the Oracle Applications framework, there is a separate messaging system, and you cannot use the Oracle Applications built ins.
    Hope this helps!

  • Designer and Headstart 6 upgrade to 6i questions

One of my customer is using Developer 6i, Designer 6.0 and
    Headstart 6.0
He is considering upgrading to Designer 6i and possibly
    Headstart 6i
New features of Designer 6i are well documented on technet but
    what about Headstart 6i?
    What are the new features?
Is it worth it or can you keep on using Headstart 6 with
    Designer 6i?
My customer was quoted roughly $2500 per upgrade.
He is not ready to pay this amount of money without first
knowing exactly what he'll get, obviously.
From what I have read on technet, Headstart 6i is now part of a
    broader tool called iDevelopment Accelerators.
Yet, what does Headstart 6i offer that Headstart 6 does not?
And do you HAVE to upgrade to Headstart 6i if you upgrade to
    Designer 6i?

The best way to do it is go back to PS and place the navigation area in the design, i would make it 100% of the width and then re-slice the design making sure one single slice is the whole of this navigation area.
That would be the best way to do it while still using a table layout which in and of itself is not recommended, in large part  for this very reason.
Every time you want to make a small change to the layout of your site, it will require re-slicing and re-generating code out of PS. You would be much better off taking the time to understand css layouts. Here is a good place to start to get the basics of css: http://www.w3schools.com/css

  • Can i get a new serial number for Adobe CS6 Design Standard for Students and Teachers?

I have had to re-install my Adobe CS6 Design Standard for students and teachers after having problems with my computer (MacBook Pro)
I am wondering if there is a way to access my old serial number from when I originally installed CS6, or do I have to start over again and get a new serial number?
    Help is greatly appreciated!!

You normally use the same serial number that you are first issued.  If you registered your product when you first installed it then you should be able to find your setial number available thru your Adobe account online.

  • Ask the Expert: Hierarchical Network Design, Includes Core, Distribution, and Access

Welcome to the Cisco® Support Community Ask the Expert conversation.  This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about hierarchical network design.
Recommending a network topology is required for meeting a customer's corporate network design  needs in their business and technical goals and often consists of many interrelated components. The hierarchical design made this easier like "divide and conquer" the job and develop the design in layers.
Network design experts have developed the hierarchical network design model to help to develop a topology in discrete layers. Each layer can be focused on specific functions, to select the right systems and features for the layer.
    A typical hierarchical topology is
A core layer of high-end routers and switches that are optimized for availability and performance.
A distribution layer of routers and switches that implement policies.
An access layer that connects users via lower-end switches and wireless access points.

    Dear Leo,
We are discussing the following without any product line, discussing the concept of hierarchical design, which will help you to take decision which model is better for you Two Layer or Three Layer hierarchical model.
    Two-Layer Hierarchy
In many networks, you need only two layers to fulfill all of the layer functions—core and aggregation
Only one zone exists within the core, and many zones are in the aggregation layer. Examine each of the layer functions to see where it occurs in a two-layer design:
Traffic forwarding—Ideally, all interzone traffic forwarding occurs in the core. Traffic flows from each zone within the aggregation layer up the hierarchy into the network core and then back down the hierarchy into other aggregation zones.
Aggregation—Aggregation occurs along the core/aggregation layer border, allowing only interzone traffic to pass between the aggregation and core layers. This also provides an edge for traffic engineering services to be deployed along.
Routing policy—Routing policy is deployed along the edge of the core and the aggregation layers, generally as routes are advertised from the aggregation layer into the core.
User attachment—User devices and servers are attached to zones within the aggregation layer. This separation of end devices into the aggregation permits the separation of traffic between traffic through a link and traffic to a link, or device. Typically, it is best not to mix transit and destination traffic in the same area of the network.
Controlling traffic admittance—Traffic admittance control always occurs where user and server devices are attached to the network, which is in the aggregation layer. You can also place traffic admittance controls at the aggregation points exiting from the aggregation layer into the core of the network, but this is not common.
You can see, then, how dividing the network into layers enables you to make each layer specialized and to hide information between the layers. For instance, the traffic admittance policy implemented along the edge of the aggregation layer is entirely hidden from the network core.
You also use the core/aggregation layer edge to hide information about the topology of routing zones from each other, through summarization. Each zone within the aggregation layer should have minimal routing information, possibly just how to make it to the network core through a default route, and no information about the topology of the network core. At the same time, the zones within the aggregation layer should summarize their reachability information into as few routing advertisements as possible at their edge with the core and hide their topology information from the network core.
    Three-Layer Hierarchy
A three-layer hierarchy divides these same responsibilities through zones in three vertical network layers,
Traffic Forwarding—As with a two-layer hierarchy, all interzone traffic within a three- layer hierarchy should flow up the hierarchy, through the layers, and back down the hierarchy.
Aggregation—A three-layer hierarchy has two aggregation points:
At the edge of the access layer going into the distribution layer
At the edge of the distribution layer going into the core
At the edge of the access layer, you aggregate traffic in two places: within each access zone and flowing into the distribution layer. In the same way, you aggregate interzone traffic at the distribution layer and traffic leaving the distribution layer toward the network core. The distribution layer and core are ideal places to deploy traffic engineering within a network.
Routing policy—The routing policy is deployed within the distribution layer in a three- layer design and along the distribution/core edge. You can also deploy routing policies along the access/distribution edge, particularly route and topology summarization, to hide information from other zones that are attached to the same distribution layer zone.
User attachment—User devices and servers are attached to zones within the access layer. This separation of end devices into the access layer permits the separation of traffic between traffic through a link and traffic to a link, or device. Typically, you do not want to mix transit and destination traffic in the same area of the network.
Controlling traffic admittance—Traffic admittance control always occurs where user and server devices are attached to the network, which is in the access layer. You can also place traffic admittance controls at the aggregation points along the aggregation/core edge.
As you can see, the concepts that are applied to two- and three-layer designs are similar, but you have more application points in a three-layer design.
Now the confusion takes place in our minds where do we use Two Layer and where the Three layer hierarchical model.
Now we are discussing that How Many Layers to Use in Network Design?
Which network design is better: two layers or three layers? As with almost all things in network design, it all depends. Examine some of the following factors involved in deciding whether to build a two- or three-layer network:
Network geography—Networks that cover a smaller geographic space, such as a single campus or a small number of interconnected campuses, tend to work well as two-layer designs. Networks spanning large geographic areas, such as a country, continent, or even the entire globe, often work better as three layer designs.
Network topology depth—Networks with a compressed, or flattened, topology tend to work better as two-layer hierarchies. For instance, service provider networks cover large geographic areas, but reducing number of hops through the network is critical in providing the services they sell; therefore, they are often built on a two-layer design. Networks with substantial depth in their topologies, however, tend to work better as three-layer designs.
Network topology design—Highly meshed networks, with many requirements for interzone traffic flows, tend to work better as two-layer designs. Simplifying the hierarchy to two levels tends to focus the design elements into meshier zones. Networks that focus traffic flows on well-placed distributed resources, or centralized resources, such as a network with a large number of remote sites connecting to a number of centralized Data Centers, tend to work better as three-layer designs.
Policy implementation—If policies of a network tend to focus on traffic engineering, two-layer designs tend to work better. Networks that attempt to limit access to resources attached to the network and other types of policies tend to work better as three-layer designs.
Again, however, these are simple rules of thumb. No definitive way exists to decide whether a network should have two or three layers. Likewise, you cannot point to a single factor and say, “Because of this, the network we are working on should have three layers instead of two.”
I hope that this helps you to understand the purposes of Two Layer & Three layer Hierarchical Model.
    Best regards,
    Ahmad Manzoor

    Hi,
I couldn't get to your query..
What do you mean by step by step procedure for a design time & process for forms.
if you are a beginner and looking for basic examples to implement adobe forms there are lot of them in SDN, please search them.
let me know if your query was a very specific one.

I have been scouring the Adobe website and even contacted customer service for a list of all the changes made from Livecycle Designer ES2 to ES3 and then ES3 to ES4 with no luck.  It seems like something basic that would be available.  I am currently using ES2 and need to know if anything was changed or added to ES3 and then ES4 to see if it is worth the cost of upgrading.  I do not use any of the other components of Livecycle and pretty much all the information on the Adobe website always goes back to those programs or how Designer works with those programs and it does not apply to me.
It is frustrating because it seems like Designer is an neglected stepchild of the ES Suite.

I agree with you, many things in the ios 6.x were more elegant. The reader was the most one of them. I think the ios7 wants to be the windows 8.

I don't think it's publicly available yet, I used to work there and was
helping out a little with testing. I'll tell you in advance, it really
works well. Much like the JDO implementation, the process of turning
things into SesisonBeans is very transparent to the developer. I guess

IMHO, JDO replaces entity beans, but you'll have to decide for yourself.
My recommendation would be to use session beans exclusively.
Where do you get TechTrader's "SessionBean Creator"? What are its

    Hi,
I was just wondering, if you are using JDO for persistence, does it
matter whether you wrap your objects with proxy EntityBeans or
SessionBeans? I am currently demoing TechTrader's SessionBean creator,
which makes means that for me creating SessionBeans is much easier than
creating EntityBeans. I am currently using stateful SessionBeans to
wrap the JDO objects, simply dropping them when the bean is passivated
and refinding them ( they'll already be in the cache ) when the bean is
    activated.
My main advantage in doing it this way is SessionBeans are so much
easier to create. Do you see any problems looming, or any other
    advantages to this decision?
    Thanks in advance.
    Eric

I don't think it's publicly available yet, I used to work there and was
helping out a little with testing. I'll tell you in advance, it really
works well. Much like the JDO implementation, the process of turning
things into SesisonBeans is very transparent to the developer. I guess
TT is going to make it available in another week or two, as time
    permits.

IMHO, JDO replaces entity beans, but you'll have to decide for yourself.
My recommendation would be to use session beans exclusively.
Where do you get TechTrader's "SessionBean Creator"? What are its
features? How do you use it?

  • One schema for OWB Design repository, runtime repository and target schema

Currently we have contents of OWB Design schema, runtime schema and target schema all combined into one schema of the same database in OWB 9.0.2 as well as OWB3i. We like to move to OWB10g in very near future. Can we keep the same structure for convenience of migration in OWB10g? Is it mandatory that OWB design repository (and components) must be separate from OWB run time repository (and components) and target schema? In other words is it possible and workable to use only one schema to contain OWB design repository, OWB run time repository and target schema in OWB10g environment with repositories to be situated on Oracle v9.2.0.1.0? Also what special considerations should be taken to create the database v9.2.0.1.0 and installation of OWB10g. What are the problems/side-effects to have all in one schema?
Also please let me know how to install Oracle Workflow server to be used along with OWB. Will OWB10g work with repository on Oracle database v9.2.0.1.0?
Your prompt advice will be very well appreciated.

The design repo is a metadata repo that stores all the design-time objects and so forth.
It is an architectural decision that you or your team need to decide on. There are many flexible ways to architect an OWB infrastructure.
Also, your repository users will be using the design repository on the the other DB instance to do their design work...potentially less people always hitting the target database all the time.
