Designer dead - statement of direction

Just stumbled across the document "Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Oracle Designer Statement of Direction."
Didn't particularly like what I read:
"....Oracle Designer will not include new features...."
The way I read it, Oracle will seize further development of the generators (web plsql/forms/reports etc.)
Designer will still be supported, but new features will not be introduced as from now.
I hope I have read this wrong?

PS: The document can be found here:

I actually posted this today september 7.th, not August 20.th as the topics date says. This Forum application reaylly suck big time...

  • Comment regarding new statement of direction

    Hi all,
I've just read the new statement of direction regarding Oracle Workflow (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/workflow/workflow_sod.html). Especially regarding the standalone version it is a great pitty that Oracle will kick such a good and stable product into the garbage can.
I'm not convinced that BPEL can replace Oracle Workflow. Also I'm missing a real migration path. It's not only Workflow that needs to be re-implemented. For example our custom application would have be to re-implemented as well because Workflow is one of the central components.
So if I read "In addition, Oracle are now recommending that customers who have Oracle Workflow workflows in development or production that they plan to continue to enhance in the future should begin re-implementing those in BPEL." or "While there will be some development costs associated with the migration of existing processes from Oracle Workflow to Oracle BPEL Process Manager..." this brings me to some critical thaughts about the future of our custom application.
What are your thaughts and comments?
    Best regards
    Matthias

They also removed the entry about charting (Charting - Provide for chart rendering without using Flash (to enable display on mobile devices).)... Guess this will be in the next release (4.2) or next MAJOR release (5.0??)..

  • Oracle Workflow - Statement of Direction and BPEL

    Hi,
I am starting to study Oracle BPEL and other people at my company are studying Oracle Workflow.
Recently I found the following article at the OTN, regarding the Statement of Direction of Oracle Workflow:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/workflow/workflow_sod.html
    It finishes saying:
"As Oracle BPEL Process Manager provides out-of-the-box features for building human-based workflows, rules-based process automation, and integration style business processes, further development on OW4J will not continue and OW4J will not be released.
Any new or existing customers who wish to build business processes in the middle tier are recommended to use Oracle BPEL Process Manager."
So my question is: Does Oracle BPEL provides (or will provide) all the functionality implemented in Oracle Workflow ? If not what are the main differences ?
I will be waiting for your thoughts
    Thanks,
    Claudio.

Site mentioned above is an internal site. External site is http://otn.oracle.com/bpel
I think the above highlighted SOD is about Oracle initiative to re-write current pl/sql based Workflow engine in Java so that it can ported to middle-tier. Since the acuisition of Collaxa they seems to be dumped that idea and positioning Oracle BPEL as the middle-tier process orchestration (BPM) solution.
Having said that let me take a shot at comparing Oracle Workflow and BPEL products....
    Oracle Workflow
    * No way getting dropped as Oracle EBS has huge investments in it
    * Oracle Fusion Applications has plans to use the Oracle Workflow BES functionality extensively
    * Good for modeling business processes within a single DB/application instances. It's possible to integrate with external apps but not an elegant solution
    * Web Services can be a functional activity with in the work flow but again not an elegant solution. Requires DB java, queues and a listener
    * Doensn't provide sophisticated modeling artifacts like TaskManager, Faults, sensors etc out of the box. It's possible to build your own library.
    * Better performanent if the entire process interaction is within a single instance like Oracle EBS account generators, approval flows etc.
    * Based on proprietary technology
    Oracle BPEL
    * Based on standards like BPEL, WSDL and WSIF
    * What ever you can do in workflow can be done in BPEL but not the otherway round
    * Has adapters to interact with various transports like JDBC, AQ, JMS, JCA, HTTP. That means integration with existing workflows is very easy
    * Interation with Oracle AQs seem to be trivial as there is a native JCA based adapter for it
    * You may get performance hit because of the multiple connection points. You may be loosing performance but gaining in flexibility
Overall Oracle BPEL seems to be the way to go if your business process involves multiple applications.

  • Cash flow Statement via Direct method using BW

    Hi Gurus,
I have an requirement to prepare Cash flow statement via direct method using BW. Can anyone advice or point me to the steps need to be done in order to achieve this
    Thank you
    BR

    Hi,
It depends on your format of cash flow. You have to obtain a cash flow format and work accordingly to include the relevant GL accounts. I have given a sample format.
    Operating Profit before Depreciation
Add (Less): Decrease / (Increase) in Working Capital
    (Increase) / Decrease in Debtors
    (Increase) / Decrease in Inventory
(Increase) / Decrease in Loans & Advances
Increase / (Decrease) in Creditors & Provisions
    Less: (Capital Expenditure)
    Net Cash generated from operations
Add: Opening Balance of Cash & Cash Equivalents
Less: Closing Balance of Cash & Cash Equivalents
    Net  Cash Outflow
    Thanks

  • Latest Discoverer Statement of Direction on OTN

The latest Discoverer statement of Direction is now available from OTN:

I did not see any release dates on the versions mentioned in the Statement of Direction. Has anyone heard any guesses? 2007, 2008, 2009? Accuracy in the date isn't important, just an approximation would be pleasant.

  • Statement of direction . . .

    Hi,
I've read this Statement of Direction. I saw a couple of interesting remarks.
But one of them confuses me a little bit:
Note that htmldb.oracle.com is not an environment to deploy production applications.
Can someone explain to me Why? (or not), some Arguments to write this ?
    Roel

    Hi me!
    Strange to reply to yourself.
After reading the document two times more I understand that this remark does tell something about the trial site that Oracle deploys as a service to their customers.
So, now I understand that HTML DB must be an environment to deploy production applications.
And I really agree with that!
Sorry I posted the first message

  • Flash Builder 4 - design view - states basedOn + design area widget

    Hello,
Since i updated my project from Flex 3 to Flash Builder (4), i have very annoying issues in the design area.
The one in Flex 3 was quite usefull, but the new version is not easy, and straight forward usable.
    Here are the 3 issues:
    - when i have states designed from another one, i use the basedOn mxml attribute, which was used in Flex 3  and still exist in SDK 4 states system.
But the designer view in Flash Builder don't take those basedOn properties in account!
What can i do? and is it a known bug?
    -  When i have at least one precific state, i must define a defautl state, in the new SDK. Ok, but in design view, i cant add a new component without making the change only for one state. I can only make the change for the default state, but it will not be taken in account for all the other states, like i can do in Flex 3.
What i want to be able to do this: making changes in design view without selecting ANY state.
Is it possible? How can i do?
    - In flex 3, there were a design area widget to select the resolution used for the preview design.
It was very usefull when the application has very dynamic width and height.
In Flash Builder, this widget has been removed.
Why has it been removed? and how can i preview my mxml views wihtout changing width and height values?
    Thanks.
    Seb

The update has been improved in every other areas, so it is not that much important.
I just hope that the new release will fix that (as it has been answered to my post).
The only thing i don't like in new releases of FB is that when the architecture of SDK is aimed to seperate the work between design and code, they focused only on catalyst to create the tools to manipulate design, and they forgot to keep an easy way to do design app directly in FB (with the design view and the style properties of MXML in FB3). But i'm confident that they will give such a tool soon.
But for now, if you don't like the restriction of the new release, you can continue to work with Flex 3 for 0$! And even in Flex 4, you can create MX components for which the design view will work as before. The fact that tools can manage a mix between MX and Spark components is a great thing. It is up to you to choose which you need which its own advantages and drawbacks.
Xcode is real pain to use with outdated ergonomy. It is only usefull to code in Objective C which is another real pain to do.
XCode can be cheapper because all Apple products are quite expansive, so the software to create softwares for them can be much more cheapper.
And Apple get a good revenue share from AppStore, so again they can give a cheap soft to create apps. You also have to pay 100$ to be able to send app to appstore, in ly opinion the good price for XCode should be 0$, not even 80$!
Flash builder 4 is very stable, but if you don't like it, you can choose another tool. Main competitor has no designer at all!

  • (Control Design & Simulation) State-Space block doesn't give output

I've tried and tried but can't get the State-Space block module to give me a graph / output.
I have no idea what the problem is and hope that somebody can help me. The numbers and calculations work in Matlab (Simulink) but i can't get it to simulate in labview.
    Anybody got any ideas?

The problem is that you are assuming that LabVIEW executes left to right. Dataflow doesn't work this way. Your code as this:
does not tell LabVIEW that it has to execute everything from left to right. What is happening is that he is executing the 3 'island' of code in parallel and, in this case, it will have 'empty' values. You have to remove the local variables to make this work and dataflow paradigm will execute your code from left to right, as you want. here is the code:
Also, one more thing. Your input to the "CD Linear Simulation" is all zero. That means that you are trying to input zero input to a linear system, which will give you a zero output to the response. You probably do not want that since zero as input doesn't give you any more information. If you want to see how to system goes to zero after initial conditions, you should use "CD Initial Response". Or you should modify the input signal to the system. Please study this shipping example to understand how to use Linear Simulation and Initial Response:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2012\examples\Control and Simulation\Control Design\Time Analysis\CDEx Time Domain Analysis.vi
    Hope this helps...

  • Oracle Service Bus (OSB), Eclipse --- and statement of direction

Can somebody please explain what this means in: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/integration/service-bus/docs/Oracle-Service-Bus-SOD.pdf
+...The web-based console was complemented in the 3.0 release with full IDE support in Eclipse. The Eclipse capabilities will be ported to Oracle JDeveloper to provide a one-stop IDE for all SOA design needs. Until that port is complete, customers will still be able to use the Eclipse environment as IDE (in addition to the web-based console)...+
More specifically: what will happen to the Eclipse OSB plugin/workshop once the JDeveloper port is complete?
    A) will it cease to exist and/or be terminated?
    B) will it remain as is, without keeping the functionality in synch with new stuff in JDev?
    C) will it continue to evolve side-by-side with JDev?
    Thx,
    -J.

I think it is clear that Oracle will remain commited to Eclipse in terms of deploying java applications to WebLogic, they will provide some plugins for some time to come. You will however see oracle specific products, such as OSB, Portal, etc removed from Eclipse and ported to JDev. The reason for this is that Oracle can release new releases within their timeframe. If Oracle rely on Eclipse to deliver some functionality before they can release new products then they will be doing their customers a disservice.
This statement in the SOD clearly states that JDev is the strategic platform and the Eclipse IP will be ported to JDev in the future:
    Design-Time Environment
JDeveloper is the IDE of choice for SOA development at Oracle. AquaLogic Service Bus users have traditionally been using the web-based console to design, manage and monitor ESB flows. The web console is a key differentiator for ALSB (now Oracle Service Bus) and will therefore remain a primary design
    environment moving forward.
The web-based console was complemented in the 3.0 release with full IDE support in Eclipse. The Eclipse capabilities will be ported to Oracle JDeveloper to provide a
one-stop IDE for all SOA design needs. Until that port is complete, customers will still be able to use the Eclipse environment as IDE (in addition to the web-based
    console).
    cheers

  • Want 2 generate customer statement print directly from F.27

    Hi All,
I want to attach the ZFORM we have created for customer statement to F.27. Currently we generate a spool from F.27 and release it from SP01.
    Please help.
    Thanks

OK sorry, I did not understand your original point.
What you are really saying is you want to automate the printing process for statements.
You need to make sure you select print immediately in F.27.

  • How long should ipad charge from dead state

How long should it take an ipad 2 to charge from a fully discharged state?

Using the wall charger, about 4 hours.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
