Designer ES 8.2.1.3144 crashes

Good Morning folks,
I wish I could do a search on the forum here since this may be old news to everyone... I've searched Adobe and Google and have downloaded a couple of updates I thought might work but was unable to install the updates (Acrobat 9 Pro as well asLivecycle Designer ES ver 8).
Last December I bought the CS4 bundle that includes Acrobat 9 Pro that contains Livecycle Designer ES, shipped on CD. All the programs run just fine. (I run both XP and Vista).
I didn't discover the Livecyle program until a couple of weeks ago and became very enthused... On XP, after using Livecycle a couple of weeks - just started crashing everytime I started it. The program does load but crashes whenever I try to open an existing PDF file or start a new file. I switched to Vista and same thing - the program worked a few days and then (now) gives the same crash when opening a file or staring a new one. I tried reinstalling Acro 9 Pro but still get the crashes in Livecycle (Acro 9 Pro itself works just fine).
I found some info on Livecycle crashes - something about long filenames (or large size files) being replicated over and over and eventually leading to crashes like I'm having. The two files I downloaded, one a zip file titled Designer82_English_SP2 and the other, a Windows Installer patch named AcroProStdUpd910_T3T4_incr. When I try installing either of these I get the same message: "...cannot be installed... program may be missing or patch may update a different version, etc.".
I probably could have just said "Why is my Livecycle Designer ES version 8.2.1.3144.1.471865 crashing" at the beginning of this and y'all would have (maybe) said Geeze, that's old news.... I'm just at a loss here and am a week behind schedule on what I'm doing with the Livecycle program.
Thanks so much for anyone pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for the input on this folks.
I've been in a 'tech hell' on this for a while and maybe am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Adobe help with Livecycle issues is not available through Adobe's support portal - only a paid support contract is available for Livecycle. However, I was able to get tech help through the support email posted last week "for those who are having tech issues not resolved through the regular support email"...
The Livecycle Designer ES (ver 8.2.1.3144) that is packaged within Acrobat 9 Pro (that is bundled with the CS4 Suite I bought) does have crashing issues.
I tried the mfc80u.dll update referenced in postings in this forum. The file I downloaded to fix this (vcredist_x86) didn't resolve the crashing issue for me.
Niall's post here about deleting the 8.2 folder does allow the program to run again but, at some point starts crashing again until you again delete this folder. (Thanks again, Niall for providing a workaround.)
I tried to update my Livecycle program with Adobe's Livecycle service pack 2 update patch (Designer82_English_SP2) but that didn't work for me. The email from Adobe support says this update is for the stand-alone (enterprise) version only.
I tried uninstalling Acrobat 9 Pro and reinstalling it but that didn't work either. I also tried installing the Acrobat update I found at Adobe - AcroProStdUpd910_T3T4_incr but the download didn't recognize my version of Acrobat. Apparently, I downloaded the wrong update for Acrobat.
According to Adobe support, "quote": In order to update the bundled version of LC Designer you need to download and install the Acrobat 9 updates. To bring your copy of LC Designer to 8.2.1.4029.1.523496.0, you need to download and install the 9.1 Acrobat update which you can find here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4375. After installing the Acrobat 9.1 update your copy of LC designer will also have been updated to the most recent version.
I've not done this yet. It's a hefty download and I need to get on another computer with a higher speed connection. I did want to go ahead a post this in the forum though since I know others are having this problem.
I'll post here again after I've tried the download that Adobe support mentions above and, hopefully, this particular post can rest as a 'fixed' issue...
Thanks again for your responses.

    Hello,
I previously wrote for help on a debug error message. Please see below. My question is, I have version 8.2. Does the error messages I'm receive have to do with a problem with this version? Would it correct the problem if I had the most recent version of Livecycle?

    Debug Error Message
    Hello,
I'm having a problem with an error message I'm getting. I'm working on my form, and all of a sudden a message pops up and says
    "Debug Error!

    abnormal program termination

So I hit Retry and then it closes my form.  This keeps happening to me over and over again, and I lose all of the changes I've made. Can anyone please explain why I am getting this error message?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
I am not sure what the cause is and it may related to the version of LC Designer that you are using.
However here are some threads, which may be of help:
    Designer ES 8.2.1.3144 crashes
    Object Library Issue
    Adobe Pro 9 - Livecycle
I would research these and make sure you are happy to proceed. You may lose your fragments and custom objects, so back these up first.
    Good luck,

  • Designer crashes on Startup

Hi,<br />   I have adobe Workflow Designer 7.2 installed and it crashes everytime I start the app. I tried installing 7.0 and it did the same thing. The error returned is<br />   Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException<br />    at javax.swing.ImageIcon.<init>(Unknown Source)<br />    ... (excluded to save me typing) ...<br />    at com.adobe.workflow.tools.processdesigner.menu.NewComponentItem.<init>(NewComponentItem.ja va:61)<br />    at com.adobe.workflow.tools.processdesigner.menu.FileMenu.<init>(FileMeny.java:41)<br />    at com.adobe.workflow.tools.processdesigner.menu.PADMenuBar.<br /><init>(PADMenuVar.java:34)<br />    at com.adobe.workflow.tools.processdesigner.PAD.main(PAD.java:58)<br /><br />At first I thought it was a bad install file, maybe an error while downloading or something, but I tried other installs, including one I had on a CD from Adobe, no good.<br /><br />Then I tried updating my version of Java, checking to see if there was maybe a problem there. I upgraded from 1.5 something to 1.6, no luck there either.

    Hi Robert
Since you are unable to install either 7.0 or 7.2 on the same machine, that leads me to believe that the problem is related to your machine.
Couple of things that may help us resolve this problem for you:
    1) WF Designer is unsupported on Windows 2000. Make sure you are installing only on Linux or Windows 2003/Windows XP.
2)When you launch the WF Designer executable, are you doing so via Command Window with the -is:javaconsole argument appended? This will give a specific error message that may be helpful. (Not sure if theis is how you saw the error message you indicated).
3)Do you have any other machine to try this on?

follow all 7 steps and dl the trial:  http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps.

  • Can I activate Adobe with same license on new computer if old computer crashed?

My work computer, which had Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium installed on it, recently crashed. I now have a new computer so I am trying to figure out if I can deactivate the license from the old computer and use it for the new one. I've tried calling Adobe but keep getting put on hold. Thanks for any help!

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines, so there is no need to wait to talk to anyone to get the new machine working.  You can still get the crashed machine deactivated if you like by contacting Adobe Support by chat or phoine.

How can I fix this? Thanks! I've already tried uninstalling/re-installing Adobe Acrobat without any luck.

    Hello,
you should use your file manager and if you don't find your Adobe directory by clicking, please use search function. Here a screenshot (detail) of mine:
Do it in the same way with your browser programs and don't fear to copy them into the Adobe directory. In this case I use two "windows technique". On the other hand I prefer "SpeedCommander 12" for these operations.

  • Show hidden characters shortcut causes crash

I'm running CS4 on Mac OS 10.5.8 (Indesign 6.0.4 which I believe is the latest).
Lately, InDesign has started crashing when I use command+opt+I (the shortcut for show hidden characters), which I do A LOT for text design purposes. It doesn't crash every single time I use the key combo, but it's gotten to about 50% of the time, so that I'm afraid to use it. I'm very shortcut oriented rather than menu oriented, so please don't suggest I just stop using the shortcut (that's what my IT guy would suggest). It took me forever to even remember what the command was called that I was doing -- I ended up finding it by accident.
Has anyone else run into this? Does anyone have any advice/suggestions?
    Thanks!

    I would start by Quitting Indesing, removing (putting on Desktop in case you have custom settings saved there) the Indesign Prefs;
    /Users/YOUR HOME FOLDER/Library/Preferences (Indesign Folder & .plist) and also removing the Indesign Cache folder;
    /Users/YOUR HOME FOLDER/Library/Caches.

    TechNote
Dreamweaver CS3 crashes after Daylight Savings Time ends
    Issue
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 crashes when working with certain PHP
    or ASP files in
Code view or Design view after the clock goes back one hour,
    when Daylight
Savings Time ends. The crashes only occur when selecting
    certain lines in
Code view, or selecting certain objects in Design view. The
    crashes only
occur in files that have PHP or ASP code, intermingled with
    HTML code. The
crashes do not occur in Dreamweaver 8 or earlier (Ref.
    229536).
    Reason
The Dreamweaver CS3 WinFileCache-7A9586CB.dat file has been
    corrupted by the
    time change.
    Solution
    1. If Dreamweaver is open, quit the application.
    2. Delete the WinFileCache-7A9586CB.dat file from the
    Dreamweaver user
configuration folder. Note that on Windows, the Application
    Data and AppData
folders are hidden by default, so verify that your Windows
    Explorer folder
options are set to View Hidden Folders. The location of this
    file is as
    follows:
    * Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver
    9\Configuration
    * Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application
    Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver
    9\Configuration
    3. Restart Dreamweaver.

Interesting, because on my PC that cache file is only in my

  • OS 10.4.7 finder crashing every second

I have the console log and a witness, for those who think I am hallucinating.
Last night this happened twice. Firefox crashed, and took a couple of open applications with it. Rapidly, the finder crashed, opened again, crashed, opened again, rinse and repeat, the remaining open applications crashed, and the finder opened and crashed repeatedly approximately every second. It was like a slow strobe light. I watched in amazement for a while then powered it off. The apps that phone home and report crashes crashed too, but all crashes were written to the console log (I haven't checked the app logs themselves yet.)
My son went back to what he was doing, to apologize to the friends he was chatting to, and the whole thing happened again. We powered off and I declared it bed time.
I started in safe mode this morning and it is OK so far.
My son thinks the trigger for the initial crash was MSN web messenger running on Firefox and using Japanese language.
Isn't OS X designed so that when an application crashes that is the only one that crashes and other applications and the system itself are protected? What could be going on here? While my son is waiting for his PC to come back from the repair shop, should I let him chat with his Japanese friends on my Mac or ban him?
    Pam
(P.S. I have good reasons to use Firefox not Safari, but that is a different topic.)

I'm glad there is someone else out there who has seen this. I was worried I would have no cred at all. My son is studying software engineering, and has studied computer science, and stresses his PC to the max when gaming, and he has never seen any computer anywhere crash like that.
If he asks to use my Mac again, I will make sure all the Japanese fonts are enabled (I have hundreds of fonts, so won't enable them all).
Add to the weird stuff: an iCal alarm reminding me to put out the garbage stayed open and I was able to close it even with the finder flashing on and off like that. My garbage note was the only thing that survived.
